Huawei’s latest Nova 16 smartphone lineup is officially going on sale today in China. The company has opened first sales for the Huawei Nova 16, Nova 16 Pro, and Nova 16 Ultra at 10:08 AM local time, with prices starting at 2,999 yuan (~ $442). 

All three phones are powered by Huawei’s Kirin 9010S processor and runs HarmonyOS 6.1 out of the box.

Huawei Nova 16 / Pro / Ultra Price

The standard Huawei Nova 16 starts at 2,999 yuan ($442) for the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant, while the 512GB version costs 3,499 yuan (about $516).

The Huawei Nova 16 Pro starts at 3,899 yuan (about $575) and is available in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options. The top-end 1TB version is priced at 4,999 yuan (about $737). 

For buyers looking for the most capable model in the lineup, the Huawei Nova 16 Ultra starts at 4,699 yuan (about $693) and reaches 5,799 yuan (about $855) for the 12GB + 1TB configuration.

Specifications

One of the headline features across the lineup is battery capacity. Huawei has equipped the Nova 16, Nova 16 Pro, and Nova 16 Ultra with large 7,000mAh batteries. All three devices support up to 100W wired SuperCharge fast charging. The Ultra further adds support for 50W wireless charging and 7.5W wireless reverse charging.

As for cameras, the standard Nova 16 features a 50MP main camera paired with a 50MP RYYB periscope telephoto lens. Meanwhile, both the Pro and Ultra models step up to a 200MP RYYB image-stabilized primary camera. They also include 50MP telephoto and ultra-wide cameras, along with Huawei’s Red Maple color imaging sensor.

On the front, the base Nova 16 uses a 120Hz display protected by aluminosilicate glass, while the Pro and Ultra models feature LTPO panels with adaptive refresh rates ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz. 

Huawei is also continuing to expand satellite communication features across its smartphones. The Nova 16, Nova 16 Pro, and Nova 16 Ultra support Beidou satellite messaging services, while the Ultra model adds Tiantong satellite communication support for broader connectivity in areas without traditional network coverage.

Today, Huawei held a major launch event in China to announce multiple new products, including the Nova 16 lineup. The series includes four models, such as the Nova 16 Ultra, Nova 16 Pro, Nova 16, and Nova16z, bringing several premium features such as large batteries, advanced camera systems, and HarmonyOS 6.1. The lineup competes with the likes of the Honor 600 series, Oppo Reno 16 lineup, and Vivo S60 series in the home market.

While the Nova 16 Pro targets users looking for flagship-style features at a relatively lower price point, the Nova 16 Ultra sits at the top of the series with additional camera, connectivity, and durability enhancements. Read on to learn more about their specifications, features and pricing.

Huawei Nova 16 Pro and Nova 16 Ultra specifications and features

The Huawei Nova 16 Pro and Nova 16 Ultra share a 6.84-inch OLED display with a 2856 x 1320 resolution, 1-120Hz LTPO adaptive refresh rate, 2160Hz PWM dimming and Kunlun Glass protection. Both phones run HarmonyOS 6.1 and are powered by Huawei’s Kirin 9010S chipset. A 7,000mAh battery is included on both models, paired with 100W wired fast charging. The Ultra variant further adds 50W wireless charging and 7.5W reverse wireless charging support.

For photography, the Nova 16 Ultra features a 200-megapixel RYYB main camera with OIS, a 50-megapixel RYYB periscope telephoto camera with OIS, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide macro camera and a Red Maple colour sensor. On the front, it carries a 50-megapixel selfie camera along with a Red Maple color lens.

The Nova 16 Pro uses a similar setup but with a 200-megapixel main camera, 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera and 50-megapixel ultra-wide macro camera. Both devices support 4K video recording, AI-powered imaging tools, AI-assisted composition, portrait enhancements and telephoto image optimization.

The Ultra model also brings premium additions such as Tiantong satellite calling, satellite paging, two-way BeiDou satellite messaging, IP68 and IP69 protection, Bluetooth 6.0, Wi-Fi 7, infrared remote control and aluminium alloy construction. The Nova 16 Pro supports two-way BeiDou satellite messaging and carries an IP65 rating.

Huawei Nova 16 Pro and Nova 16 Ultra price and availability

The Huawei Nova 16 Ultra is available in Starry Black, Sky Blue and White colour options. It is priced at 4,699 CNY (~$655) for the 256GB model, 5,199 CNY (~$725) for the 512GB version and 5,799 CNY (~$810) for the 1TB variant.

The Huawei Nova 16 Pro comes in Starry Black, Sky Blue, White and Frost Purple shades. Pricing starts at 3,899 CNY (~$545) for the 256GB model, while the 512GB and 1TB variants cost 4,399 CNY (~$615) and 4,999 CNY (~$700), respectively. Huawei has not yet announced international availability for either smartphone.

Recently, Huawei unveiled the Huawei MatePad Pro Max for the global market. Now, the company is reportedly preparing to launch the tablet in China, possibly in June. Ahead of the expected debut, tipster Digital Chat Station has revealed that the Chinese version will be slightly different from the global edition. The tipster also claims that the Huawei Nova 16 series and new smartwatch models will debut alongside the MatePad Pro Max in China.

According to the leak, the upcoming MatePad Pro Max for China will feature a 13.2-inch flexible OLED display with a 3000 × 2000 resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. The tablet is also tipped to offer ultra-slim 3.55mm bezels on all four sides. For photography, it may include a 12-megapixel front camera and a 50-megapixel rear camera.

The tablet is expected to be powered by a flagship Kirin 9-series chipset, likely from the Kirin 9030 series, and pack a 10,400mAh battery with support for 66W and 100W charging adapters. Other expected features include satellite communication support on select variants; Star Flash connectivity, USB 3.2 Gen 1 support, and an optional soft light display version.

The tablet could launch in Obsidian Grey, Glow Blue, and Moon Silver color options. According to another tipster known as Hyperdimensional Realm, the device may arrive in configurations such as 12GB+256GB / 512GB, 16GB+256GB / 512GB / 1TB, and 20GB+512GB / 1TB. The latter is said to be a Collector’s Edition variant bundled with a stylus package. The tablet is also expected to come preinstalled with HarmonyOS 6.1.

DCS also mentioned that the engineering prototypes of the Nova 16 series’ top-end variant, likely to be called the Nova 16 Ultra, may receive a major camera upgrade. The device is tipped to feature a 1/1.3-inch large sensor primary camera, front and rear multispectral sensors, a periscope telephoto camera, and wireless charging support.

The standard Nova 16 model is said to feature a new 6.68-inch display.

In addition, Huawei is reportedly preparing new smartwatch models called the Supernova Watch X1 and X1 Pro, along with a children’s smartwatch that may include a built-in camera.

A new set of leaks has spilled the beans on what the Huawei Nova 16 series might look like. According to a post from tipster Fixed Focus Digital, the upcoming lineup could stick with some familiar colors. 

The standard Nova 16 and Nova 16 Pro are said to arrive in classic black and white, along with a blue and a gradient finish. The top-end model, however, may skip the gradient look entirely with just black, white, and blue on its helm.

The top model is also where things get a bit more interesting. A newer leak suggests Huawei might call it the Huawei Pura Nova 16 Pro Max, instead of the previously expected “Ultra” branding. 

Fortunately, a previous report gives us an idea of what this Ultra—or now Pro Max—model might offer.

Huawei Nova 16 Pro Max Possible Specifications

A previous report from tipster Digital Chat Station revealed a prototype device in the works with a 6.84-inch 1.5K LTPO display. It’s expected to be the top-tier model in the Nova 16 series, powered by a “9-series flagship processor,” which likely means a Kirin 9000-series chip, along with a battery that could land around 7000mAh.

As for the camera, the device is said to include a 50-megapixel main sensor in the 1/1.3-inch range, paired with a 50MP periscope telephoto lens and a multispectral sensor. Wireless charging is also reportedly part of the package.

For context, the Huawei Nova 15 series launched late last year with Kirin 8020 and 9010S chipsets, starting at 2699 yuan. The Ultra variant stood out mostly for its dual “red maple leaf” design, rather than major hardware changes.

Like most early leaks, none of this is final. Names, specs, and even the overall direction could change before Huawei makes anything official.

While the leak doesn’t reveal the name, the hints in the comment section suggest the device could be part of the Huawei Nova 16 series. In particular, the Nova 16 Ultra. 

Huawei Nova 16 Ultra Specifications (Expected)

The leak also mentions a “9-series flagship processor,” which likely corresponds to the Kirin 9000 series SoC. Moreover, the device is said to feature a battery capacity of around 7000mAh.

On the camera side, the prototype is said to feature a newly tested 50-megapixel sensor in the 1/1.3-inch range. This is paired with a 50MP periscope telephoto lens, though with a smaller sensor, and a multispectral lens. Rounding out the specs in this leak is wireless charging. 

For context, the previous Nova 15 lineup launched late last year with Kirin 8020 and 9010S chipsets, starting at 2699 yuan. The Ultra variant also introduced a distinctive dual “red maple leaf” design across both the front and back. 

The leak also briefly touches on competitors. In a reply, DCS notes that Oppo is expected to keep its focus on 200-megapixel cameras for the Reno 16 series, along with a more detailed back design. Another comment suggests that at least one manufacturer may revisit curved displays later this year.

As always with early leaks, details could change before launch. So take these details with a pinch of salt.
