Huawei launched the China-exclusive HUAWEI nova 2s affordable flagship smartphone in December 2017. The handset debuted with EMUI 8.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo. But unfortunately, it only received a single major update in the form of EMUI 9.0/EMUI 9.1 based on Android 9.0 Pie. However, the company continued to release minor service updates every now and then. In fact, the device is currently receiving a new system update almost three and a half years after its debut.

Huawei is rolling out a new system update for the  HUAWEI nova 2s. The latest update arrives with build number EMUI 9.1.0.226. The update is available for all two variants of the phone (AL00, TL00).

Despite featuring the same build number, the new update comes with a different changelog for the two versions of the handset. Talking about common changes first, the latest system update adds smart message settings, a hot recommendation folder, and a quick download icon for Education Center as well as Link Now application.

Additionally, the update brings UC Browser to the AL00 model and QQ Browser to the TL00 variant. Lastly, the update also comes with optimizations for the pre-installed WPS Office on the TL00 version.

That said, like any other OTA system update, the EMUI 9.1.0.226 update for the HUAWEI nova 2s is also being rolled out in batches. Therefore, it may take some time to reach every unit.

It is not unusual to see phone makers release limited edition models of their phones based on pop culture. The OPPO R11 TFBOYS Edition is based on a popular boy band in China. Meizu also has a One Piece edition of the M6 Note. Huawei is joining the trend with the Nova 2s Monument Valley 2 Edition.

Monument Valley is a popular puzzle game available on Android and iOS. Made by Ustwo Games, it was a hit when it launched. Last year, the game developer released a sequel which was equally well received.

Huawei’s Nova 2s Monument Valley 2 Edition is practically the Rose Gold (Sakura Pink) version of the phone but in a special box. However, there are reports that it will also come with some customized accessories and even maybe UI.

The special edition model will also only be available in the 6GB RAM + 128GB configuration unlike the regular Rose Gold variant that is available in 4GB + 64GB and 6GB + 64GB variants.

The Huawei Nova 2s Monument Valley 2 Edition will go on sale tomorrow on Vmall.com at 10:08 (local time) for ¥3399 (~$537).

When the Huawei Nova 2s was announced last December, it was to come in five different colors. However, not all the color variants have been available since it went on sale. For example, the Acacia Red variant just went on sale last month. Today, Huawei has announced that the Sakura Pink variant will go on sale tomorrow.

The Sakura Pink Huawei Nova 2s will be available in 3 configurations –

1. 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM ¥2699 (~$425}
2. 6GB RAM + 64GB ROM  ¥2999 (~$473}
3. 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM  ¥3399 (~$536}

The Nova 2s has a 5.99” FHD+ display and is powered by the Kirin 960. Unlike most of Huawei and Honor’s other full-screen phones, it has its own fingerprint scanner on the front.

On both sides of the phone are dual rear cameras. A 16MP F/1.8 RGB sensor and a 20MP monochrome sensor grace the back of the phone while a 20MP F/2.0 sensor and a 2MP sensor are in front for selfies.

The Nova 2s also runs EMUI 8.0 based on Android Oreo, has NFC, Bluetooth 4.2 with aptX and aptX HD, and a hybrid SIM slot. It also packs a 3340mAh battery with a USB-C port.

The new color variant will be available on the Huawei online store and authorized stores starting at midnight on March 2.

Fresh off the launch of the Honor View 10 and Honor 7X in Europe, Huawei has returned to its home country to reveal yet another smartphone – the Huawei Nova 2s.

The Nova 2s is a flagship smartphone just like the V10/View 10, but its arrival will likely put fans of the brand in a conundrum when it comes to choosing between it and the Honor V10.

Dual Cameras or More Power?

The specs, design and pricing of the Nova 2s are similar to that of the Honor V10 but with some key changes. What one phone lacks, the other has. The selling point of the Nova 2s is its dual front and dual rear cameras. The V10 on the other hand has dual rear cameras only, but it comes with the latest Kirin 970 chip. The Nova 2s on the other hand comes with last year’s Kirin 960 processor.

So what will you be going for? Dual cameras or more processing power?

Nova 2s Specs

The phone has a 5.99” FHD+ display with 2.5D glass on top. Bezels are thinner at the top and bottom, but Huawei has managed to put a fingerprint scanner below the display.

The Nova 2s comes in three variants – 4GB RAM + 64GB, 6GB RAM + 64GB, and 6GB RAM + 128GB. All three are powered by the Kirin 960 and storage can be expanded via a MicroSD card slot.

The cameras are the highlights of the phone. The Nova 2s has dual front cameras and dual rear cameras. The front facing cameras are a combination of a f/2.0 20MP primary sensor and a 2MP sensor for capturing depth of field. There is also a LED flash on the front.

The rear cameras are a f/1.8 16MP RGB sensor and a 20MP monochrome sensor with support for dual camera zoom. The cameras come with a bunch of shooting modes.

The Nova 2s runs EMUI 8.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo. It has NFC with support for Huawei, Bluetooth 4.2 with aptX and aptX HD, and a hybrid dual SIM slot (Nano only). Battery capacity is 3340mAh and can be charged from 0 to 100% in 2 hours via a USB-C port.

Nova 2S Price

The Huawei Nova 2S will sell for ¥2699 (~$408) for the 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM variant, ¥2999 (~$453)  for the 6GB RAM + 64GB model, and ¥3399 (~$514) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB version.

These prices are the same as that of the Honor V10 with the exception of the 128GB model which sells for ¥3499 (~$529). So you see why folks will have a hard time choosing between both devices?

The phone will come in Cherry Pink, Obsidian black, Light Blue, Silver Diamond Gray, and Acacia Red. Pre-orders begin today and sales will start on December 12. The Nova 2s will come with a free selfie stick, a 2-in-1 data cable (micro-USB and USB-C), and a protective case as part of the pre-order gifts.

Huawei will be unveiling the Nova 2s smartphone later today. The rumor mill has revealed plenty of leaked images of the smartphone. Yesterday, an unboxing video of the Nova 2s smartphone was also leaked. Few hours ago, well-known tipster Evan Blass had released a high-resolution image that revealed the color variants of the Nova 2s. Also, the pricing of the two variants of the Nova 2s have also been leaked.

The above image shows that the upcoming Huawei Nova 2s will be coming in color choices like black, red, gray and rose gold. Another image of the Nova 2s has also surfaced to shows off its entire design. The front panel features dual front cameras and a physical Home button that is enabled with fingerprint sensor. The left and top sides of the Nova 2s are barren, but the right edge has volume buttons and Power key. Its bottom edge features a 3.5mm audio jack, a USB-C port and an external speaker. The back panel is also fitted with dual cameras.

According to the TENAA listing of the Huawei Nova 2s, it will be coming with a 6-inch display that will carry support for Full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. It will be delivering an aspect ratio of 18:9. The handset measures 156.9 x 75.1 x 7.5mm and weighs 169 grams.

Rumors have revealed that Kirin 960 chipset is present under the hood of the Nova 2s. Its rear panel is pegged to feature 20-megapixel + 16-megapixel dual camera system. The front panel will be housing a pair of 20-megapixel snappers. It will come preloaded with EMUI 8.0 flavored Android 8.0 Oreo and it will also include other features such as Hi-Fi audio chip and NFC. A 3,340mAh battery will be powering the Nova 2s smartphone.

Fresh information suggests that the Huawei Nova 2s featuring 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage will be carrying a price tag of 2,899 Yuan (~$438). The other variant of the phone featuring 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage will be priced at 3,199 Yuan (~$483).

And now, the Nova 2S is coming with a similar setup. The video shows the device having a glass back, dual cameras both at the front and rear sides, a full-view 18:9 screen at the front. Just last week, Huawei’s sub-brand, Honor launched the V10 flagship. The phone has been praised for packing impressive specs at an affordable price tag. But Huawei isn’t done for the year as it has more launches on the way. Its next launch in China is for the Nova 2s and Huawei has begun sending out invites.

Chinese tech news site, ITHome, has received their invite for the event and it comes with a gift.

The invite is shaped like an actual phone box and we will be surprised if this isn’t the retail package of the phone when it launches. rather than contain a dummy version of the phone like some manufacturers do, Huawei has included a 4-in-1 camera-clip on lens kit.

From the images provided, there is a fish eye lens, a macro lens, and a telephoto lens included in the box.

The Nova 2S shares a similar design to the Honor V10 as it also has a front-mounted fingerprint scanner even with a FHD+ display and also dual cameras on the back. One key difference it has from the V10 is that it has dual front cameras in front too.

Huawei is advertising the Nova 2S as a selfie-focused phones, so its easy to deduce that its target market are photography enthusiasts. The rear cameras are said to be the same 20MP+16MP configuration as the V10, while the front facing cameras are two 20MP sensors.

In the previous week, Huawei had released an official poster to confirm that it will be launching the Nova 2s smartphone on Dec. 7. A couple of leaked photos of the Huawei Nova 2s as well as its promotional posters have now surfaced just ahead of its official launch.

The Nova 2s featuring 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage may carry a pricing of 2,599 Yuan. The other variant featuring 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage may cost 2,999 Yuan. Huawei has reportedly built up sufficient stock of the Nova 2s to ensure enough units are available with its retailers.
