Huawei’s Nova series is the company’s range of affordable mid-range models. Huawei recently launched the Nova 3E which is actually the Huawei P20 Lite hitting some regions under a different moniker. Now, there are indications the Chinese market leader is about launching the Nova 3. The company has commenced the release of teasers about the device. A new Weibo post on the official Huawei Phone Weibo handle confirms the existence of the Nova 3 as the post was made using the device and the company has selected a new brand ambassador, likely for the Nova 3 launch. A leaked teaser poster which also emanated from Weibo has unmasked what is said to be the rear design of the Huawei Nova 3.

The Huawei Nova 3 leaked photo only shows the rear panel and the similarity between the design and that of the P20 Lite is glaring. Unfortunately, the front design wasn’t featured but we expect something similar, perhaps with a notch at the top of the display. Huawei might decide to ditch the notch on this one, though.

The specs of the device are still unknown but its predecessor, the Nova 3E comes with 5.8-inch full-screen design with a screen ratio of 19:9 and a resolution of 2280×1080 pixels. The device also weighs just 145g. We don’t expect the Nova 3 design to be any different. However, the device said to go by the codename “Paris” is expected to be fired up by a Kirin 710 chipset and will run Android 8.1 Orea with EMUI 8 custom skin. The Huawei P20 Lite was the first of the P20 series to go on sale even before it was officially released. However, it first launched officially in China but as the Nova 3e. Now it is heading to Malaysia under the same name.

The Huawei Nova 3e will launch in Malaysia on May 25 and will have a price of RM 1,399 (~$352). The phone will be available in all Huawei Experience Stores around the country.

The Huawei Nova 3e has a 5.8-inch screen with a 2280 x 1080 display. There is a notch at the top that houses a 24MP selfie camera and the earpiece.

It has a Kirin 659 processor paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of storage. It also has dual 16MP+2MP cameras on the rear and a fingerprint scanner. It runs EMUI 8 based on Android 8 Oreo and has a 3,000mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging.

The Huawei Nova 3e has a reflective glass back. It comes in Klein Blue, Cherry Powder, Magic Night Black, and Platinum Gold. However, we have no idea if all color variants will be available in Malaysia.

Huawei announced the Nova 3E smartphone at an event in China today. It’s the second smartphone launch today, after the Lenovo S5 that was unveiled an hour ago.

Like most other smartphones in the market, the Huawei Nova 3E adopts the notch on the screen, trying to mimic Apple iPhone X’s design. This does help to keep the top bezel to a bare minimum, but the front features a thin bottom bezel that also features the Huawei logo. The phone doesn’t experiment with its design as it continues the trend set by the recent Huawei offerings. The phone measures 148.6 x 71.2 x 7.4mm and weighs 145 grams. So you get a 2.5D glass back design in four color options including Klein Blue, Cherry Powder, Magic Night Black, and Platinum Gold.

As for the specs, the Huawei Nova 3E features Kirin 659 inside (no surprise given that its being used by almost all Huawei mid-rangers) with 4GB RAM and 64GB / 128GB ROM options. On the front, you have a beautiful 5.8-inch display with 2280×1080 pixel resolution. In case you missed, this translates into 19:9 aspect ratio, which once again embraces the display trend set by recent notch smartphones.

The above specs are pretty much standard among Huawei devices these days. So what differentiates the Huawei Nova 3E? CAMERA! The phone is being marketed as a Selfie beast and it’s the world’s first smartphone to feature the 24MP Sony IMX578 sensor up front for stellar selfies. The new sensor boasts of a 20% increase in resolution, 33% decrease in noise in low light images, and a 26% increase in color reproduction. Given that the phone is a selfie beast, you get all the necessary features to improve your selfie shots like beauty algorithms, hardware level HDR, LCD smart light fill among other things. At the back, there’s a capable 16MP + 2MP dual camera setup that supports bokeh photos. But don’t expect anything extraordinary from its back camera.

The Nova 3E comes with Android 8 based EMUI 8. It supports face unlock, smart screen notifications, game mode, and intelligent voice assistant. The battery isn’t big, featuring just 3000mAh, but it does have 18W (9V 2A) fast charging to ensure you can quickly top up the battery when you are running low.

The Nova 3E starts at 1999 Yuan (~$315) for the 4GB +64GB model and 2199 Yuan (~$348) for the 4GB + 128GB model. Pre-sale starts today at 6PM while the first sale is on March 27.

Huawei Nova 3e is expected to launch on March 20 in China, a week before the P20 series would be unveiled in Paris on March 27. The Nova 3e had earlier been rumoured as being the same as the Huawei P20 Lite and from the look of things, that is the case. A leaked poster of the Nova 3e had earlier confirmed this assertion. Now, a leaked hands-on video featuring the Nova 3e has emerged on Weibo and sincerely it is no different from the P20 Lite’s renders we had seen in the past.

The Huawei Nova 3e is basically the P20 Lite by another name. As the saying goes, a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. So, the device still looks radiant and beautiful as seen on the video and earlier leaked poster. Since Huawei is launching the Nova model in China, it is unlikely the P20 Lite will be unveiled whenever the P20 series models hit China. This may be a repeat of the Honor 7X scenario which was launched recently in the U.S as Mate SE.

Design wise, the leaked video shows the device in all-white colour but from previous renders, the device will be available in a number of colour variants including Black. The device will come with a Glass finish similar to the Mirror finish of the Honor 8. The leaked video indeed shows the rear view with a glossy glass finish. The device is also seen to pack a vertically aligned dual rear camera setup. The cameras are located at the top left corner. There is also a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor in the middle.

The same similarity with the P20 Lite also plays out on the front view of the Nova 3e. The display is the trendy full-screen display. The stand out feature up at the front is the notch design which the device takes in order to bear some similarity with the iPhone X. We know the Apple flagship wasn’t the first to feature the notch design, the Essential Phone was. But since the debut of the iPhone X, a number of OEMs have been cooking up models with a display notch similar in all respect to the iPhone X’s.

We also expect the specifications to be similar and in that respect TENAA has gifted us the specs of the P20 Lite. In the same vein, the Nova 3e is expected to feature a 5.8-inch display with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixel and a 19:9 aspect ratio. The device will be powered by a Kirin 659 chip which is the same one used on the Honor 7X and Honor 9 Lite. The processor is backed by 4GB of RAM while there is 64GB of storage on the device which can be expanded up to 256GB. On the camera end, the device packs a 16MP + 2MP rear camera. The secondary rear sensor is a Bokeh camera. The device also packs a 16MP selfie shooter having Face Unlock capability. The Nova 3e (P20 Lite) will be fired up by a 3000mh battery with 18W fast charging an would run Android Oreo -based EMUI 8.0 out-of-the-box. The China-bound Nova 3e will also have HiAssistant similar to Google Assistant. Apart from the White variant on display in the leaked video, the device will be available in Black, Pink and Blue color options.

Another interesting aspect is that this is the same design the Huawei P20 Lite is expected to adopt. Thus, the Nova 3e would be launched internationally as P20 Lite.

The device is also expected to be equipped with a Kirin 670 chip with integrated AI NPU and would run EMUI 8.1 from the go.
