Design

Are you searching for a real flagship-like design with an original and elegant body? Then go for the Huawei Nova 3i. Also known as Huawei P Smart+ in the European market, this device sports a glass back available in gradient colors, and it also has a very high screen-to-body ratio just like the most expensive flagships actually in the market. Nokia 7.1 is a cool device too in terms of aesthetics, and besides its beautiful glass back it has very compact dimensions thanks to its smaller display.

Display

Nokia 7.1 has the smallest display, but also the one with the best viewing quality, and it wins the display comparison. Its good viewing quality comes from a high pixel density and the HDR10 technology able to enrich colors, which is very rare to find on devices which are not flagships.

Specs & Software

If hardware and performance are your main concern, then you should opt for the Xiaomi Pocophone F1. It has nothing to envy to every flagship out there, but it comes with an upper-midrange price. Under the hood, it has the best Qualcomm’s SoC: the Snapdragon 845, paired with up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage. You can run every app and every game with the max performance thanks to this handset. It even comes with a customized MIUI based on performance enhancements. Nokia 7.1 has the stock Android One, while Huawei Nova 3i comes with the EMUI.

Camera

If you want the best rear camera department, we suggest you grab a unit of the Nokia 7.1 as it will surely provide a high detail and good performance with low light thanks to its bright aperture. Indeed, if you want the best front camera, choose the Huawei Nova 3i as it features a dual front camera with a whopping 24 MP resolution.

Battery

The biggest battery belongs to Xiaomi Pocophone F1 with a capacity of 4000 mAh. Given that this is a gaming-oriented phone, it is obvious that the Chinese company opted for a big battery, as games are the most demanding activities causing the highest battery drain.

Price

Unless you are looking for a decent design, Xiaomi Pocophone F1 is definitely the most interesting choice of the trio and I would pick it for its flagship-level hardware and its long battery life. You can currently get a unit of Xiaomi Pocophone F1 for less than €300/$346, Nokia 7.1 is hitting the shelves with a €319/$367 price tag and Huawei Nova 3i costs about €300/$346.

Design

I personally like the design of Huawei Nova 3i very much, and I like it because it is available in a very impressive gradient hue: Iris Purple which goes from blue on the upper part to purple in the lower one. And the device even comes with a stunning reflective glass on the back. But if you do not like this color, then Huawei Honor 8X has a better design thanks to its higher screen-to-body ratio. Vivo V9 Pro is beautiful, but I do not like it as much as its opponents from Huawei.

Display

The most interesting display belongs to Huawei Honor 8X as it has a huge 6.5-inch diagonal. So, it is very comfortable to read or watch videos with this handsets, and that is why I would pick it. Viewing quality is not so different between these devices, so I am not going to make a choice by basing on viewing quality. Indeed, all of them have IPS panels and a Full HD+ resolution.

Specs & Software

Vivo V9 Pro is the device with the highest performance, thanks to its more powerful SoC. We are talking about the Snapdragon 660 by Qualcomm, which has a more powerful GPU than Kirin 710 and a max frequency of 2.2 GHz. Further, this device alongside the Huawei Honor 8X sports a dedicated micro SD slot. While it has the best hardware, we like more the software found on Huawei phones. Vivo V9 Pro comes with Funtouch OS installed, while Nova 3i and Honor 8X have the EMUI. But overall, I would still pick Vivo V9 Pro.

Camera

Which of these devices should you choose from this trio? It mainly depends on which cameras you are interested in. If you care more about rear cameras, then go for the Honor 8X as it features a higher resolution as well as a brighter aperture which provide more detailed shots, especially in low-light conditions. But if you care about selfies the most, then you should choose Huawei Nova 3i as it has a great dual front camera with 24 and 2 MP resolutions and with f/2.0 aperture, as well as a very advanced AI beauty mode.

Battery

Huawei Honor 8X is the handset with the biggest battery. Its lithium unit has a way bigger capacity than the opponents and it is able to last a lot more. But note that, on the other hand, it also has bigger dimensions, so if you want a device which fits in your pocket it may not be the best choice for you.

Price

Even though their specs are similar, these handsets come with different prices. Vivo V9 Pro costs about $347 or €300, Huawei Nova 3i costs about $405 or €350 and Huawei Honor 8X has an average price of $254/€220. With the actual prices, Huawei Honor 8X has the best value for money and it wins the comparison.

Further, the former device was only available through flash sales and many potential buyers were left with empty hands. Finally, the Nova 3 is going to be available in the first open sale. Starting from August 23, the handset will be officially available on Amazon India with exactly the same price tag as the flash sales: INR 34,999 Yuan, which roughly translates to about $501 at the actual change.

Besides the Huawei Nova 3, its more affordable version Nova 3i (also known as Huawei P Smart Plus in the European market) will be made available in the Iris Purple gradient color variant (it goes from blue to violet) starting from August 21 on Amazon India. The price tag of this version will be INR 20,990, which translates into $300. Until now, the Nova 3i has obtained a very warm response from the public with very high sales in the Indian peninsula, but it was only available in the less original Black color variant.

Huawei Nova 3i vs Huawei P20 Lite: Design

First of all, there is a slight improvement in the design, even though Huawei Nova 3i is aesthetically similar to Huawei P20 Lite. The new handset has trimmed bezels compared with its predecessor, and it is also available in gradient hues, unlike the P20 Lite. Further, Huawei Nova 3i has a glass back, while the P20 Lite has a plastic back. For the rest, it is more or less the same, but Huawei Nova 3i is definitely more beautiful and well-made than its opponent.

Display

Both Huawei Nova 3i and Huawei P20 Lite have displays with a notch included, but the Nova 3i has a bigger 6.3-inch panel which may be very useful for people using the smartphone for productivity and multimedia. A 6.3-inch display is much more comfortable to use but it also results in a bigger phone. Indeed, the Nova 3i is bigger, heavier and even thicker than its opponent. Due to minimal differences in the viewing quality, I would surely pick the Nova 3i because of its bigger screen.

Huawei Nova 3i vs Huawei P20 Lite: Specs & Software

Under the hood, Huawei Nova 3i has more recent and powerful hardware than the P20 Lite. It has the new octa-core Kirin 710 chipset which is an improvement over the overused Kirin 659. So, it should provide evidently better performance. Further, it has more RAM in the most expensive configuration. There is no challenge under this point of view: Huawei Nova 3i wins.

Huawei Nova 3i vs Huawei P20 Lite: Camera

Even when it comes to the camera department, Huawei Nova 3i is better, but differences are marginal. With the dual rear camera having exactly the same specs, the only difference is represented by the front camera setup which consists of a dual selfie camera (with 24 and 2 MP resolutions) for the Nova 3i and a 16 or 24 MP single camera (depending on the market) for the P20 Lite. Huawei Nova 3i can shoot more interesting selfies by detecting depth info in a more accurate way.

Battery

Given its bigger dimensions, Huawei Nova 3i has a bigger battery, and this means a longer battery life. It has 340 mAh more capacity and it has even the GPU Turbo technology out of the box which can provide up to 30 percent more power efficiency. On the other hand, with a smaller battery on board, the Huawei P20 Lite should charge faster as both the devices feature a fast battery charging technology.

Huawei Nova 3i vs Huawei P20 Lite: Price

Huawei Nova 3i has just been launched, so it is still available at a pretty expensive price. You can currently get it for €350 which roughly translates into about $407. Huawei P20 Lite is currently way cheaper and it can be found at less than €278 thanks to online street prices, which roughly translates into $323. Huawei Nova 3i is obviously the winner of the comparison thanks to its more beautiful design, its more advanced hardware, and its bigger battery. But in the actual situation, we suggest you go for the P20 Lite due to its more affordable price tag. If it is not urgent for you to get a new handset, then wait a month or so for the price of the Nova 3i to drop, and it will be worth getting it.

Huawei Nova 3i vs Xiaomi Mi A2: Design

Phones are not only about hardware and performance, but they are getting more beautiful every day. Huawei Nova 3i is definitely one of the most beautiful smartphones in its segment and it is way more attractive than the Xiaomi Mi A2. It has a flagship-like design with a glass back and an aluminum frame, and even a very high screen-to-body ratio. It is also available in gradient hues! Xiaomi Mi A2 has a classic full metal unibody design that isn’t very attractive if you are looking for a stylish phone. So, between these two Huawei Nova 3i is the better looking device.

Display

If you choose the Huawei Nova 3i you will also get a big phablet-like display but with a notch. It has more pixels but it is also bigger, so the level of detail will not change that much. On the other hand, Xiaomi Mi A2 has a smaller display but a very good viewing quality and comes without a notch. Anyways, the difference between these panels is not very noticeable, and on midrange devices, displays are all the same, more or less. Let’s consider it a draw, just choose by basing on your personal size preferences.

Huawei Nova 3i vs Xiaomi Mi A2: Specs & Software

One of the most important advantages of the Xiaomi Mi A2 is surely the hardware and software department. It has a very solid chipset, the Snapdragon 660 by Qualcomm paired with up to 6 GB of RAM. Further, it has Android One, a stock version of the operating system which is lighter than custom user interfaces and providing better performance. So this phone is definitely the winner when it comes to speed and multi-tasking. However, its opponent is still very competitive with its new Kirin 710 chipset. But personally, we would go with the Mi A2.

Huawei Nova 3i vs Xiaomi Mi A2: Camera

Besides performing better, Xiaomi Mi A2 has also a better dual camera setup on its backside. With 20 and 12 MP resolutions as well as a f/1.8 aperture, Xiaomi Mi A2 is one of the best midrange devices in terms of camera quality, at least on the paper. Further, it has a powerful 20 MP front camera. Huawei Nova 3i is surely inferior with its 16 + 2 MP dual camera, but we believe it will be able to shoot better selfies thanks to its dual front camera with 24 and 2 MP resolutions. In a few words, Xiaomi Mi A2 has a better rear camera and Huawei Nova 3i has a better selfie camera.

Battery

Huawei Nova 3i has a bigger battery with a 3340 mAh, but the capacity is not everything to evaluate the potential battery life of a phone. We will let you know more when we personally review this phone because given that Qualcomm SoCs are often optimized very well (and given the presence of the stock Android One), Xiaomi Mi A2 may feature a similar battery life even though its battery is smaller. Also, note that Mi A2 has Quick Charge 3.0 which charges the battery faster. You can actually check out our Honor Play review from here!

Huawei Nova 3i vs Xiaomi Mi A2: Price

You can currently purchase the Huawei Nova 3i for about €350/$406, while Xiaomi Mi A2 starts from €249/$291. I pick Xiaomi Mi A2 as the winner of the comparison because of its awesome camera and a high value for money.

Huawei Nova 3i vs Xiaomi Mi A2: PROs and CONS

The Nova 3i has now appeared on Geekbench bearing the model number – Huawei INE-X2. The Gekbench listing affords us an opportunity to get our first glimpse of the benchmark performance of the Kirin 710 chipset.

The Hisilicon Kirin 710 is an octa-core built on a 12nm wafer and it features 4x Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and 4x Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.7GHz. On the single core test, the Kirin 710 polled 1601 points while on the multi-core test it garnered 5457 points. Comparing this to other chipsets in the same categories, like the Snapdragon 660, and Snapdragon 710, we notice some differences. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710 chipset on its part, is a 10nm chipset with 2x Kryo 360 Gold (2.2GHz) and 6x Kryo 360 Silver cores (1.7GHz). They are based on Cortex-A75 and A55 respectively. With a single-core test score of 1875 and a multi-core test score of 5886 points, the SDM710 obviously performs better than Kirin 710. But then, Geekbench result doesn’t really reflect the actual real-life performance 100 percent.

The Kirin 710 Geekbench score is slightly higher than that of Qualcomm’s premium mid-range Snapdragon 660 chipset on the single core test (1599 points) while on the multi-core test, Snapdragon 660’s score of 5639 surpasses that of Huawei’s mid-range Kirin 710 chip.

Read Also: Huawei Nova 3 and Nova 3i to be launched in India on July 26

We also compare the score of the Kirin 710 chip to that of its predecessor – Kirin 659 using the Geekbench score of the Honor 7X. Obviously, the Kirin 710 is a massive upgrade over the Kirin 659 which scored 909 points on the single-core test and in multi-core test, it recorded a score of 3159 points. The new Geekbench core for the Kirin 710 almost doubles that of its predecessor both on the single-core and multi-core tests. Thus, the performance is expected to be spot-on.

It also announced a second phone, the Nova 3i. The Nova 3i comes with lots of interesting features but the most important one is its processor which is the just announced Kirin 710.

Nova 3i Design

The Nova 3i doesn’t have a look we haven’t seen before from Huawei or Honor. There is a notch, dual rear cameras in the same iPhone X style a lot of its phones use, and glass on both sides.

Nova 3i Specs

The phone has a 6.3-inch 19.5:9 FHD+ display. Paired with the Kirin 710 is 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage or 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. That is no mistake. The 6GB model does have less storage. However, the official site says there is a 6GB + 128GB model too. All models have support for storage expansion (256GB max.)

The Nova 3i comes with four cameras – two on each side. The notch is home to a 24MP sensor and a 2MP secondary sensor. Huawei says it can identify 8 different scenes and has an “HDR Pro backlight mode”. The phone also comes with Qmoji, Huawei’s take on the iPhone X’ Animoji.

The rear cameras, on the other hand, are a 16MP sensor and a 2MP sensor. The cameras can identify up to 22 different scenes and have a bunch of professional shooting modes. It can also record slow-motion videos at 480fps.

Even with the new chipset, the Nova 3i still comes with Bluetooth 4.2. There is also aptX and aptX HD audio for high-quality audio streaming. The phone has a 3340mAh battery, dual SIM support (nano only) and runs EMUI 8.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo.

Nova 3i Price and Availability

The Nova 3i comes in Bright Black, Pearl White, and Blue-Purple. The 4GB model will sell for ¥1999 (~$297) and the 6GB + 64GB model will sell for ¥2199 (~$327). There is no info on the price of the 6GB RAM + 128GB model and when the phone will be available for purchase.

The company is expected to take the wraps off the Nova 3 alongside the Nova 3i on July 26. We have already spotted the Nova 3 design and specs online. Now, it is the turn of the Nova 3i renders to make an entrance onto the scene along with the pricing and key configuration.

The Nova 3i render, memory configurations and their pricing details were reportedly outed by some sellers on AliExpress. According to the details, the Nova 3i will be available in a 4GB + 64GB storage priced at $480 (about 3,216 yuan). There is also a 6GB + 64GB memory variant which will come with a slightly higher $520 (~3,484 yuan) price tag. Both versions will be available in four colors: white, black, red and purple. There is even talk of a 4GB + 128GB version.

One of the major details we can take out from the outed renders of the Nova 3i is the lack of a notch design on the display. The device keeps up with the full-screen 18:9 display design. In Addition, the device will ship with the new Hisilicon Kirin 710 chipset. On the camera end, the Huawei Nova 3i packs a dual rear-mounted dual camera setup comprising a 16MP + 2MP combo. The device will also hold a dual camera setup at the front which is a 24MP + 2MP combo. Thankfully, the device is among Huawei’s models that will feature support for GPU Turbo. The Huawei model will be fuelled by a 3340mAh battery. Quite interesting is the fact that the device is not listed as a pre-order but actually available to buy right away.
