The star of the moment still remains the MediaTek Dimensity 1000L SoC powering the OPPO Reno3 5G. The processor maintained its lead of this category with an average score of 407340 points. That is a wide gap between the Reno3 5G and the Exynos 980-powered Vivo X30 5G in the second spot. The gap between the first and second-ranked model is more than 80,000 points, showing the prowess of the Dimensity 1000L. The Reno3 5G was launched in December 2019 and has stayed consecutively atop AnTuTu’s midrange chart since January, thanks to the MediaTek SoC.

The Dimensity 1000L is built with a 7nm process and uses the Cortex-A77 architecture in an octa-core arrangement. The GPU uses the G77 architecture and the SoC also comes with built-in 5G baseband. The chipset equally supports NSA / SA dual-mode 5G.

OPPO Reno3 Pro

The Redmi K30 5G packing a Snapdragon 765G processor maintained the third position. OPPO’s latest Reno3 Pro 5G enters at the fourth spot. The four models are the only 5G model in the top 10 midrange chart.

Huawei’s Hisilicon Kirin 810 chipset propelled five different Huawei and Honor models into the list. The phones include the Honor 9X Pro, Huawei Nova 6 SE, Honor 9X, Honor 20S and the Huawei Nova 5i, all occupying the fifth to ninth spots in that order.

Another MediaTek chipset, the Helio G90T makes the cut onboard the Redmi Note 8 Pro and with an average score of 289257 points.

With the launch of several models powered by the Snapdragon 765G, we expect the list to change pretty soon but the Dimensity 1000L’s dominance doesn’t seem to have any contender. However, the top 10 mid-range chart may soon be dominated by 5G phones in the coming months considering the rising number of 5G mid-range phones that are being released in quick succession.

The device is rumored to be a rebadged Nova 6 SE that was launched in China in 2019. The smartphone packs in quite the punch with its robust specifications and trendy design. The only drawback being the lack of Google Services due to the unending US trade ban. The company unveiled the price of the handset during the announcement earlier today.

Huawei Nova 7i Price

The Huawei Nova 7i is priced at RM 1,099 (~$265). This comes as a major surprise since the Nova 6 SE is priced at CNY 2,199 (~$312) despite being the same device. Not that we are complaining! The Nova 7i will launch in three color options, namely Emerald Green, light blue and pink gradient and black. Buyers in Malaysia will be provided with a free Huawei Band 4 on purchase of Huawei Nova 7i.

Huawei’s press release confirms that the smartphone will launch on February 14. Although the Nova 7i is the first device to flaunt the ‘7’ moniker, it is not a new design. In fact, Huawei Nova 7i moniker is a rebranded version of the Huawei Nova 6 SE that went official in China in December 2019.
Huawei Nova 7i Features and Specifications

The Nova 7i flaunts a 6.4-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2310 x 1080 pixels. The smartphone features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner instead of a conventional rear panel-mounted design or under-display module. The smartphone is powered by a 2.27 GHz octa-core Kirin 810 chipset with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of native storage, expandable up to 256 GB via a microSD card.

In terms of optics, the Huawei Nova 7i flaunts a quad-camera setup at the rear, complete with a 48-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens, and two 2-megapixel sensors for macro and depth photography. The camera module also features an LED flash unit. On the front, the Nova 7i flaunts a 16-megapixel camera housed within the punch-hole located near the top left corner.

The Huawei Nova 7i draws power from a 4,200 mAh battery with 40W fast charge support and runs on Android 10-based EMUI 10. The handset uses a hybrid nano-SIM slot with support for 4G LTE. The other features of the Nova 7i include dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, USB-C, GPS, 3.5mm AUX port and side-facing fingerprint reader.

While it will be arriving as the first phone in the Nova 7 series, it won’t be an entirely new device. Huawei is good at rebranding and it has done the same with Nova 7i. It will be arriving in Malaysia as a rebadged edition of the Huawei Nova 6 SE that was unveiled along with the Nova 6 smartphone in December 2019. There is a possibility that other global markets may also receive it as Huawei Nova 7i.

According to the Chinese manufacturer, Huawei Nova 7i is a mid-range device that flaunts a 48-megapixel main camera in its quad-camera system. The setup includes an ultrawide shooter and a dedicated lens for capturing macro shots.

One of the key features of the Nova 7i is “MeeTime” which ensures impressive audio and video quality through the front even in dim light conditions. It also claims to be one of the best when it comes to using it as a selfie video camera phone.

Due to the current US trade ban, the Huawei Nova 7i won’t be arriving with Google Mobile Services (GMS). Hence, users will arrive with Huawei AppGallery and users will have to rely on loading APK files.

Being a rebranded version of the Huawei Nova 6 SE, the Nova 7i will be arriving with a 6.4-inch IPS LCD punch-hole display that carries support for full HD+ resolution. The device is fitted with a side-mounted fingerprint reader.

The Android 10 OS comes preloaded on the Nova 6 SE. The Kirin 810 chipset is present under its hood with 8 GB of RAM. It comes with 128 GB of storage. There is a shared SIM slot for additional storage. The device is fitted with a quad camera setup that includes a 48-megapixel main lens, an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor, a 2-megapixel macro lens, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. It has a front-facing camera of 16-megapixel. The phone ships with 4,200mAh battery that carries support for 40W fast charging.

The Huawei Nova 6 SE is selling in China for 2,199 Yuan (~$317). There is no word on the pricing of the Huawei Nova 7i in Malaysia.

Huawei will be announcing the Huawei P40 and P40 Pro flagship smartphones by the end of the first quarter of 2020. The series will also include a Lite model that may go official before the P40 and P40 Pro phones. Rumors have it that the Nova 6 SE smartphone could be rebadged as Huawei P40 Lite in certain markets. It is advisable to wait for further reports to confirm on it.

But Xiaomi also announced another device: the vanilla Redmi K30. It is not a 5G phone and it is nothing we did not already see in the past in terms of specs, but it will carry an incredibly affordable price. That is why we decided to compare it with the most important value for money smartphones released in the recent period. We chose the Realme X2 and the Huawei Nova 6 SE for an amazing value for money comparison between smartphones sold for less than €300.

Design

Redmi K30 and Huawei Nova 6 SE offer a slightly more attractive design because they have punch-hole displays. The former has two holes for a dual front camera, while the latter has just a single hole in the display, so a more beautiful front panel. I personally prefer the Huawei Nova 6 SE due to its cleaner design and its more compact dimensions, but it is all a question of tastes. While Realme X2 has a classic waterdrop notch, on the other hand, it offers a definitely interesting rear side with reflective glass and suggestive color variants. Which would you go for?

Display

Not a lot of people would easily think that in 2019 the best display of this comparison is an IPS panel. But it is exactly what we are trying to tell you: the Redmi K30 has an IPS panel, but it also comes with some technologies making it better than the AMOLED display found on the Realme X2. Unlike the X2, Redmi K30 supports the HDR standard and it is even the only affordable phone to offer a 120 Hz refresh rate. So it provides smooth user experience and even richer image quality. Even Huawei Nova 6 SE has an IPS panel, but in this case, you get a classic midrange display with nothing special to offer.

Specs & Software

The performance kings here are both Redmi K30 and Realme X2. Both are fueled by the Snapdragon 730G chipset paired with up to 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of fast UFS 2.1 internal storage. But there is a small difference: Realme X2 is the only with a dedicated micro SD slot allowing to use both dual SIM and micro SD at the same time. On the other hand, Realme X2 is the only which still runs Android 9 Pie, while Redmi K30 and Huawei Nova 6 SE come with Android 10 out of the box. That is why Redmi K30 is slightly more interesting.

Camera

When it comes to cameras, Huawei Nova 6 SE is the inferior one, while Redmi K30 and Realme X2 are almost at the same level. Both are equipped with a 64 MP quad camera including an ultrawide sensor, a dedicated macro camera, and a depth sensor. And both shoot pretty nice photos but they are not real camera phones. The main difference regards the front cameras: Realme X2 has a single 32 MP sensor, while Redmi K30 has a dual front camera with 20 and 2 MP resolution, including a depth sensor.

Battery

The bigger 4500 mAh battery on the Redmi K30 will most likely allow him to last more on a single charge. But Huawei Nova 6 SE is not so distant with its 4200 mAh unit and it offers a much faster charging technology with a 40W power.

Price

Redmi K30 starts from about €210/$233 in China, Realme X2 starts from €230/$255, and Huawei Nova 6 SE from €280/$311. At the end of the day, I would not choose the Huawei Nova 6 SE because I define Redmi K30 and Realme X2 two devices with a higher value for money. Redmi K30 is the most interesting because of its better display and probably longer battery life.

The company also sprang a surprise by unveiling the Nova 6 SE, a smartphone that falls on the mid-range segment but with an impressive design. Huawei Nova 6 SE has as its most outstanding feature a rear camera design that looks like that of Apple’s latest iPhone 11.

The Huawei Nova 6 SE utilises a single punch-hole display design unlike the Nova 6 with a wider cut-out that houses two selfie cameras. The punch-hole is situated at the top left corner of the display and does a great job in ensuring the device has an extremely reduced bezel at the top. The bezel at the chin is also at its barest minimum as well as the side bezels.

EDITOR’S PICK: First Samples from the 108MP Mi Mix Alpha is here & we are not impressed!

At the back, the camera design is the most prominent feature. The Nova 6 SE packs a quad camera setup. What makes it stand out is that the cameras are sitting on a square-shaped module which looks very similar to what Apple did on the iPhone 11 series. Apple may have been the first to utilise such design style but it is safe to speculate that Huawei had the iPhone 11 in mind when choosing the design. The Nova 6 SE utilises four rear camera arranged symmetrically on the module while the LED flash is just under the module. The main camera is a 48MP sensor with AI/beauty features. The front punch-hole houses a 16MP camera for selfies.

It packs a decent 4200mAh battery under the hood with support for 40W super-fast charging. The device doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor at the rear instead, it utilises a side-mounted sensor located at the left edge of the display.
