<p>After announcing that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/11/13/3-year-old-huawei-mate-30-harmonyos-3-update/">3-year-old Huawei Mate 30 will receive the latest HarmonyOS 3 stable update</a>, a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei/">Huawei</a> online consumer spokesperson has confirmed that the HarmonyOS 3 Public Beta Programme will be open for application for more Huawei devices starting this November.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/HarmonyOS-3-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-495289" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/HarmonyOS-3-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/HarmonyOS-3-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/HarmonyOS-3-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/HarmonyOS-3-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/HarmonyOS-3-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/HarmonyOS-3-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/HarmonyOS-3.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>As reported by <a href="https://www.ithome.com/0/653/455.htm">ITHome</a>, the spokesperson noted that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmonyos-3/">HarmonyOS 3</a> Public Beta will be available for the 4th batch of Huawei devices starting this November. Owners of these 3 <a href="https://www.ithome.com/0/653/455.htm">Huawei</a> smartphones (Huawei Nova 8, Nova 8 Pro, Nova 8 Pro 4G) will be able to apply for HarmonyOS 3 Public Beta by the end of this November, whilst for the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-nova-8-se/">Huawei nova 8 SE</a> and Huawei Nova 8 SE Vitality Edition, the HarmonyOS 3 Public Beta will be available starting early 2023.</p>

<p>Besides these 5 Huawei devices, <a href="https://www.ithome.com/0/653/455.htm">Huawei</a> also earlier announced last week that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmonyos-3/">HarmonyOS 3</a> Stable had been rolled out to 15 Huawei device models this November. The full list is linked in <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/11/13/3-year-old-huawei-mate-30-harmonyos-3-update/">this article here</a>.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="600" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/huawei-nova-8.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-495462" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/huawei-nova-8.png 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/huawei-nova-8-300x300.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/huawei-nova-8-150x150.png 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/huawei-nova-8-420x420.png 420w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /><figcaption>Source: Huawei</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>For those unfamiliar with Huawei’s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmonyos/">HarmonyOS</a> software development rollout, it can be easily explained in 3 easy to read paragraphs.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmonyos/">HarmonyOS</a> rollout is divided into 3 stages, a closed beta, a public beta, and a stable version rollout. In the closed beta version rollout, Huawei device users can opt-in for early access software development to try out the new features due to be added in the next major software update. Interested participants first need to go to settings and apply for the closed beta programme, and then once <a href="https://www.ithome.com/0/653/455.htm">Huawei</a> has approved the application, only then the closed beta update will roll out to the user’s device. Normally, only 2000 users will be selected for the closed beta programme.</p>

<p>For the next stage – the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmonyos/">HarmonyOS</a> public beta rollout, there is no limit to how many Huawei users can join the programme. Users can opt-in for the update via settings at any time. However, <a href="https://www.ithome.com/0/653/455.htm">Huawei</a> does suggest users who opt-in for the public beta back up their devices beforehand, as it is still not a stable release. Just like the closed beta, Huawei users can experience upcoming software features before the stable release and the main purpose of releasing a public beta first is to iron out any bugs and stability issues before rolling it out for all users.</p>

<p>In the final stage, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmonyos/">HarmonyOS</a> is rolled out to all Huawei device users with a stable version release. The update will include notable features found in the closed and public beta testing, as well as security updates, stability and bug fixes for all Huawei users over the air.</p>

The tech giant has now officially launched the trio for sale in China.  The major highlight of the models is the presence of HarmonyOS 2 onboard all three models.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-395394" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate 40E" width="600" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-167x300.jpg 167w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-569x1024.jpg 569w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-233x420.jpg 233w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The models are not new, they had earlier been launched last year but with 5G capabilities. The company has decided to release a 4G-only version, perhaps due to the chip shortage occasioned by the US trade embargo that has made it impossible for the Chinese firm to buy semiconductors from US companies. The company is likely relying on the stockpile of chips it made before the ban went into effect.</p>
<p>Talking of the specs, the Huawei Mate 40 Pro 4G version is equipped with a Kirin 9000 processor paired with 8GB RAM while there are 128GB and 256GB storage options. The device starts at 6,099 yuan which is 400 yuan cheaper than the 5G version.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-2.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-395395" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-2.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate 40E" width="600" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-2.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-2-167x300.jpg 167w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-2-569x1024.jpg 569w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-2-233x420.jpg 233w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>On the other hand, the Mate 40E 4G version is equipped with a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/03/10/huawei-mate-40e-5g-with-90hz-display-kirin-990e-and-64mp-triple-cameras-launched-in-china/">Kirin 990E</a> processor backed by 8GB RAM as well as 128GB and 256GB storage options. The Mate 40E starts at 4199 yuan, also 400 yuan cheaper than the 5G version.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-3-1.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-395396" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-3-1.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Nova 8 Pro" width="600" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-3-1.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-3-1-167x300.jpg 167w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-3-1-569x1024.jpg 569w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-3-1-233x420.jpg 233w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The Nova 8 Pro 4G is the cheapest model among the lot. It is equipped with a Kirin 985 processor and has the same memory configuration as its predecessors. It starts at 3699 yuan which is 300 yuan cheaper than the 5G version.</p>
<p>Apart from the lack of a 5G modem, the 4G versions are exactly the same as their 5G counterparts in terms of product design and other specs. You also get the HarmonyOS 2 installed from the go.</p>
<p>We don&#8217;t know if Huawei will have enough stock to sell these models outside China. By the way, would you still buy a Huawei smartphone in the absence of GMS? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.</p>

Along with that, the brand also launched a few devices.</p>
<p>However, the company has not announced any new smartphone at the event. But the company has started pre-sale for a few smartphones. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/4g">4G variants</a> of the Huawei Mate 40 Pro, Mate X2, Mate 40E, and Nova 8 Pro are now available for purchase in China.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-392930 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-4G-Phones-HarmonyOS.png?x44794" alt="Huawei 4G Smartphones HarmonyOS" width="600" height="295" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-4G-Phones-HarmonyOS.png 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-4G-Phones-HarmonyOS-300x148.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-4G-Phones-HarmonyOS-324x160.png 324w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-4G-Phones-HarmonyOS-533x261.png 533w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>All these smartphones come pre-installed with the latest version of HarmonyOS, which is also known as HongMeng OS in China. As noted, the devices are the 4G variant and the company has removed <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/5g">5G connectivity</a> support on these phones which runs HarmonyOS.</p>
<p>As for the configuration, most of the phone&#8217;s specifications remain the same as the original model, except for some changes like removing support for 5G. The Huawei Mate 40 Pro 4G and the Huawei Mate X2 4G come powered by the HiSilicon <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/kirin-9000">Kirin 9000 SoC</a> and pack up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB internal storage.</p>
<p>On the other hand, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-40e/">Huawei Mate 40E</a> 4G is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 990E chipset while the Huawei Nova 8 Pro 4G is powered by the Kirin 985 SoC. Both the phones are now up for pre-order in China.</p>
<p>Apart from these phones, Huawei has announced that more than 100 devices from the brand, including smartphones, tablets, and other smart devices, will be upgraded to HarmonyOS 2. The company claims that this will bring a brand new user experience to more than 200 million users.</p>

The Nova 8 Pro 4G is reminiscent of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-nova-8-5g/">Nova 8 Pro 5G</a> that was announced in December last year. However, despite arriving with support for 4G connectivity, this model comes with several improvements over the 5G variant. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-nova-8-pro-3.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-386243" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-nova-8-pro-3.png?x44794" alt="Huawei Nova 8 Pro 4G " width="673" height="541" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-nova-8-pro-3.png 673w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-nova-8-pro-3-300x241.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-nova-8-pro-3-522x420.png 522w" sizes="(max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px" /></a></p>
<p>Huawei Nova 8 Pro 4G features a 6.72-inch OLED screen with a FullHD+ resolution of 2676 x 1236 pixels. The display supports a 120Hz refresh rate as against 90Hz which the 5G version supports. The device retains the Kirin 985 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM. It arrives with two storage options 128GB and 256GB. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-nova-8-pro-2.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-386242" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-nova-8-pro-2.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Nova 8 Pro 4G " width="621" height="349" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-nova-8-pro-2.jpg 621w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-nova-8-pro-2-300x169.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 621px) 100vw, 621px" /></a></p>
<p>For photography, there is a quad-camera setup at the back housed at the rear. The sensors include a 64MP main shooter teaming up with an 8MP ultrawide, 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro camera. For selfies, the Nova 8 Pro 4G packs 16MP wide and 32MP ultrawide sensors housed in a pill-shaped module.</p>
<p>The Nova 8 Pro 4G packs a rear-mounted fingerprint reader for biometric authentication. There is equally a 4000mAh battery under the hood to keep the lights on. The battery charges via a USB-C port and supports 66W charging. The device indeed bundles a 66W charger which can charge from 0-60% in just 15 minutes and to full charge in 35 minutes. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-nova-8-pro.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-386241" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-nova-8-pro.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Nova 8 Pro 4G " width="833" height="600" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-nova-8-pro.jpg 833w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-nova-8-pro-300x216.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-nova-8-pro-768x553.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-nova-8-pro-696x501.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/huawei-nova-8-pro-583x420.jpg 583w" sizes="(max-width: 833px) 100vw, 833px" /></a></p>
