After announcing that the 3-year-old Huawei Mate 30 will receive the latest HarmonyOS 3 stable update, a Huawei online consumer spokesperson has confirmed that the HarmonyOS 3 Public Beta Programme will be open for application for more Huawei devices starting this November.

As reported by ITHome, the spokesperson noted that HarmonyOS 3 Public Beta will be available for the 4th batch of Huawei devices starting this November. Owners of these 3 Huawei smartphones (Huawei Nova 8, Nova 8 Pro, Nova 8 Pro 4G) will be able to apply for HarmonyOS 3 Public Beta by the end of this November, whilst for the Huawei nova 8 SE and Huawei Nova 8 SE Vitality Edition, the HarmonyOS 3 Public Beta will be available starting early 2023.

Besides these 5 Huawei devices, Huawei also earlier announced last week that HarmonyOS 3 Stable had been rolled out to 15 Huawei device models this November. The full list is linked in this article here.

For those unfamiliar with Huawei’s HarmonyOS software development rollout, it can be easily explained in 3 easy to read paragraphs.

The HarmonyOS rollout is divided into 3 stages, a closed beta, a public beta, and a stable version rollout. In the closed beta version rollout, Huawei device users can opt-in for early access software development to try out the new features due to be added in the next major software update. Interested participants first need to go to settings and apply for the closed beta programme, and then once Huawei has approved the application, only then the closed beta update will roll out to the user’s device. Normally, only 2000 users will be selected for the closed beta programme.

For the next stage – the HarmonyOS public beta rollout, there is no limit to how many Huawei users can join the programme. Users can opt-in for the update via settings at any time. However, Huawei does suggest users who opt-in for the public beta back up their devices beforehand, as it is still not a stable release. Just like the closed beta, Huawei users can experience upcoming software features before the stable release and the main purpose of releasing a public beta first is to iron out any bugs and stability issues before rolling it out for all users.

In the final stage, HarmonyOS is rolled out to all Huawei device users with a stable version release. The update will include notable features found in the closed and public beta testing, as well as security updates, stability and bug fixes for all Huawei users over the air.

Earlier this month, a smartphone called TD Tech N8 Pro made its debut in China. The device went out of stock within days of its release and was rumored to be discontinued. Now, it is said that this handset will hit the shelves once again at the end of the year.

TD Tech N8 Pro is a rebranded HUAWEI nova 8 Pro with 5G connectivity. In fact, TD Tech Co., Ltd. itself has confirmed to a media house that the components for this phone are purchased from Huawei, reports ITHome.

At the same time, the company has also revealed that this smartphone is not discontinued. Instead, it is now mainly aimed at corporate users and will be restocked next month. Interested customers will get a chance to purchase it once again from the end of December 2021. The handset will be sold on JD.

A Bloomberg report recently exposed that Huawei is looking to license its smartphone designs to Chinese partners. TD Tech Co., Ltd. is listed as one of these partners. This suggests TD Tech N8 Pro is probably just a trial and we might see more such rebadged Huawei phones in the future.

According to ITHome, TD Tech is a telecom equipment manufacturer, which originated as a joint venture between Nokia and Simens. It is presently a wholly-owned subsidiary of TD Tech Holding Limited.

Huawei and Nokia Hong Kong are investors of this parent holding company. Huawei’s rotating chairman Xu Zhijun is the director of this firm.

Last week, an interesting device called TD Tech N8 Pro went official in China. This smartphone is nothing but a rebadged HUAWEI nova 8 Pro with 5G connectivity and different software. In fact, Huawei itself listed this phone on its official stores across eCommerce platforms. However, for some reason, this handset has been now delisted from everywhere within days of its launch.

According to a report by ITHome, the TD Tech N8 Pro is no longer listed anywhere online. Hence, the publication says that the smartphone has been discontinued. But unfortunately, we don’t have any proof for the device’s discontinuation.

Huawei’s smartphone business is in turmoil ever since the company was added to the entity list by the US government. With the subsequent sanctions, the firm had to even sell its sub-brand HONOR.

Since the once world’s largest smartphone company can now no longer sell phones with 5G connectivity, it has been providing its hardware to other companies, which have licenses to trade 5G handsets.

The TD Tech N8 Pro is one of these phones. As mentioned earlier, this device is a HUAWEI nova 8 Pro inside out. But since it is from a different firm theoretically, it has 5G connectivity.

On the other hand, the now independent HONOR brand registered immense growth last quarter in China. But sadly, the future of Huawei’s smartphone business is not bright at all.

Earlier this month, Huawei listed the Mate 40 Pro 4G, Mate 40E 4G, and Nova 8 Pro 4G for presale in China. The tech giant has now officially launched the trio for sale in China.  The major highlight of the models is the presence of HarmonyOS 2 onboard all three models.

The models are not new, they had earlier been launched last year but with 5G capabilities. The company has decided to release a 4G-only version, perhaps due to the chip shortage occasioned by the US trade embargo that has made it impossible for the Chinese firm to buy semiconductors from US companies. The company is likely relying on the stockpile of chips it made before the ban went into effect.

Talking of the specs, the Huawei Mate 40 Pro 4G version is equipped with a Kirin 9000 processor paired with 8GB RAM while there are 128GB and 256GB storage options. The device starts at 6,099 yuan which is 400 yuan cheaper than the 5G version.

On the other hand, the Mate 40E 4G version is equipped with a Kirin 990E processor backed by 8GB RAM as well as 128GB and 256GB storage options. The Mate 40E starts at 4199 yuan, also 400 yuan cheaper than the 5G version.

The Nova 8 Pro 4G is the cheapest model among the lot. It is equipped with a Kirin 985 processor and has the same memory configuration as its predecessors. It starts at 3699 yuan which is 300 yuan cheaper than the 5G version.

Apart from the lack of a 5G modem, the 4G versions are exactly the same as their 5G counterparts in terms of product design and other specs. You also get the HarmonyOS 2 installed from the go.

In December 2020, Huawei officially announced the Nova 8 and Nova 8 Pro smartphones but the models were only launched for sale a couple of days back. Also in December, there were rumors that the tech giant will launch a Special edition of the Nova 8 Pro. That has now happened as Huawei has announced the Nova 8 Pro King of Glory edition.

The special edition comes with an interesting design and a cool new UI theme. The purple back of the phone is engraved with the Luban character on top while the internals remain unchanged. In other words, the Nova 8 Pro King of Glory Edition features an Hisilicon Kirin 985 SoC and is available in an 8GB+128GB storage option.

The device is equipped with a 6.72-inch OLED panel with curved edges. It supports a custom resolution of 2676 x 1236 pixels, a 10-bit color depth, and a 120Hz refresh. The edges of the screen have an 80-degree curvature. The display is integrated with a fingerprint scanner.

The top-left corner of the display is a pill-shaped cutout that features a 32-megapixel main selfie camera and a 16-megapixel secondary lens. The back panel of the phone has a quad-camera system featuring a 64-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 2-megapixel macro lens, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Its front features a 32-megapixel selfie camera.

Further, the Nova 8 Pro gets a bigger 3,900mAh rated battery and support for 66W fast charging. A recent leak had revealed that both phones could be available in 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage editions.

The special edition also costs as much as the regular version – it will go on sale in China tomorrow for CNY 3,999 ($620).

Ever since the Huawei Nova 8 launch date was announced, we have been coming across a lot of leaks. In the run-up to the December 23 event, it looks like everything about the device will probably be revealed. A recent leak shares the real-life images of the Nova 8 non-Pro in Green color.

As reported by ITHome, tipster Digital Chat Station has revealed the real-life image of the Huawei Nova 8 smartphone. Accordingly, the Nova 8 will have a 6.57-inch FHD+ OLED display. The display will have a refresh rate of 90Hz and probably a 2560×1080 pixel resolution. Interestingly, a live image shared by him shows a single punch-hole screen.

This leak corroborates the early report on specifications which said Nova 8 will have a 90Hz OLED screen with 1 billion colors. Anyway, a new report by ITHome shares additional images of the Nova 8. It shows the rear of Nova 8 having a Green color with an oval-shaped camera module.

Earlier today, a leaked render showed a similar module that goes well with this leak. The module has an LED flashlight and four sensors out of which the first one is pretty large. As you can see below, it has a white ring around it, and “AI QUAD CAMERA”, “ULTRA HD SENSOR” slogans surround it. Also, there is a ‘nova’ branding and Huawei logo at the bottom.

Nova 8, 8 Pro Camera Specifications(Expected)

Besides, the tipster says that the punch-hole on Nova 8 is about 4mm and the same as that of Huawei Mate40. However, the difference here is the punch-hole is moved to the center instead of the top-left position on the latter. Plus, it also confirms that Nova 8 series will have two devices.

This is because the previously leaked poster showed a device with a dual punch-hole screen which is likely Nova 8 Pro with dual cameras. Speaking of which, the Nova 8 series’ camera specifications will almost be similar unlike the predecessor, Nova 7 and 7 Pro. At the back, both the devices will have a 64MP main, 8MP ultra-wide, two 2MP sensors(likely macro, depth).

On the other hand, the Nova8 will have a single 32MP selfie shooter whereas the Nova 8 Pro will have dual 32MP and 16MP sensors. Other alleged specifications include a Kirin 985 SoC, 66W SuperCharge technology, and a rumored starting price of 3,000 yuan($458) for Nova 8, and 4,000 yuan($611) for 8 Pro. Huawei may no longer produce smartphones if the US ban continues to exist. Nevertheless, the Chinese telecom giant is still working on to launch new devices. These upcoming handsets are HUAWEI nova8 series and HUAWEI Mate X2. Both of them have been now certified by TENAA exposing their model numbers. Additionally, their codenames have also been revealed.

The TENAA listings of the forthcoming nova8 series and Mate X2 were first shared by popular leakster Digital Chat Station on Weibo. He also exposed the codenames of these smartphones.

According to the tipster, the devices in the HUAWEI nova8 series are codenamed “Jessica” and “JessicaH”. Though he did not mention the marketing name of these products, they should probably retail as HUAWEI nova8 and HUAWEI nova8 Pro respectively. Further, they will come with two model numbers each – JSC-AN00 / JSC-TN00 and HJC-AN00 / HJC-TN00.

Having said that, this is not the first time we are hearing about the codenames of nova8 series. Back in August, reputed leaker Evan Blass revealed the devices in the series to be called “Jessica” as well as “Barbie”. Anyway, he did not straight up mention these codenames to be of nova8 series as he simply called them to be for next-gen nova series. That said, the smartphone associated with the latter codename is still a mystery.

Other than the nova8 series, Digital Chat Station also revealed the model number of HUAWEI Mate X2 to be TET-AN00. Unfortunately, he neither shared the screenshot of its TENAA listing nor we could it find like the above four. Thus, we think it is either yet to be listed or removed.

As for its codename, it is called “Teton” just like Evan mentioned last month. According to a report, the third foldable from Huawei will continue to feature the same 8.03-inch foldable display with a resolution of 2480 x 2220 pixels. However, unlike its predecessors, the screen will be of inward folding type like the Galaxy Z Fold2.

It is worth noting that though Huawei is gearing up to release these smartphones, there’s a chance that they may be only limited to China and certain global markets as the company currently cannot place new orders for chips and other supplies.

The upcoming Mate40 series has been confirmed to be the last Huawei smartphone to feature HiSilicon Kirin chipset for the time being. But the company is still working on a number of products including three smartphones, a foldable, a TWS, and a smartwatch.

The information regarding the existence of these products comes from popular leakster Evan Blass aka @eveleaks on Twitter. Unfortunately, he did not reveal anything but the codenames and they are as listed below.

That’s not all, Ross Young, the founder and lead research of DSSC and DisplaySearch revealed further details about the Mate X2 in a reply to Evan’s tweet.

According to him, the upcoming Huawei foldable smartphone will feature an inward folding display just like Samsung Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Fold 2. Also, he mentioned that the Chinese telecom giant will be sourcing panels from Samsung Display and BOE, however, it will lack UTG (Ultra Thin Glass), which is kind of a bummer.

Anyway, if this smartphone ever releases, then it will be the first non-Samsung foldable to come with Samsung Display panel.
