Despite there are a lot of specular models, especially between Huawei and Honor, there is an affordable phone for every kind of user in the Huawei’s line-up. The latest and most impressive Huawei mid-rangers are Honor 20 Lite also known in China as the Honor 20i, Huawei P30 Lite which is called Nova 4e in the Chinese market, and the P Smart+ 2019 which, unlike its internal rivals, is not an affordable variant of a flagship line-up. The P30 Lite is currently the most famous one, but is it also the best Huawei mid-ranger you can buy? Let’s discover it together with an in-depth specs comparison.

Design

All of these phones come with stunning but also very similar bodies. They have wonderful glass backs as well as displays with an incredibly high screen-to-body ratio, thanks to their waterdrop notches. And the differences between them are very marginal. My favorite one is the Huawei P30 Lite because it offers a more compact and thinner body, so it is easier to use with one hand and to keep in a pocket. I think this is the most important thing when it comes to three phones with similar aesthetics.

Display

IPS panel are nothing impressive nowadays, given that AMOLED panels are the trend and they also offer more brilliant colors. These three devices all come with an average IPS panel, but the Huawei P Smart+ 2019 looks slightly better as it offers the more advanced LTPS technology. Both Honor 20 Lite and Huawei P Smart+ 2019 have the same display size and resolution, while the Huawei P30 Lite has a slightly smaller panel.

Specs & Software

Even if we talk about hardware, these handsets do not differ so much. All of them are powered by the midrange Kirin 710 chipset built at 12 nm with a max clock frequency of 2.2 GHz. It can handle almost every app with more than sufficient performances. What makes the difference are the memory configuration: Huawei P Smart+ 2019 is the weakest as it only comes with 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. The best one is the Huawei P30 Lite because it sports up to 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage in every variant.

Camera

Huawei P30 Lite is the best camera phone, but only in its most expensive variant. Indeed, in the costlier one, it has a main 48 MP sensor that enhances the level of detail captured in every light condition. Honor 20 Lite and Huawei P Smart+ 2019 have a 24 MP main sensor in each and every variant. Huawei P30 Lite and Honor 20 Lite are the best ones when it comes to selfie cameras as they both have a 32 MP snapper, while Huawei P Smart+ 2019 stops at just 8 MP.

Battery

The battery life of Huawei P30 Lite, P Smart+ 2019 and Honor 20 Lite is average. They all can reach one day on a single charge with moderate use, but they won’t go so farther than that. Huawei P Smart 2019 and Honor 20 Lite have a slightly longer battery life because they come with 50 mAh more than Huawei P30 Lite, but in most of the scenarios, it is not a noticeable difference. On the other hand, Huawei P30 Lite has a way faster charging technology with its 18W power.

Price

Honor 20 Lite is yet to hit the shelves, while Huawei P30 Lite and Huawei P Smart+ 2019 are already available with prices starting from €290/$325 and €350/$390 respectively. Overall, Huawei P30 Lite looks like a more interesting phone due to its better camera department (in the costlier variant), faster charging technology and a more compact design.

Design

There are no huge differences in the aesthetics of these three handsets. All come with a stunning gradient back and a very high screen-to-body ratio thanks to narrow bezels and a small U-shaped waterdrop notch. Some may prefer the Honor 10i due to its more catchy light waves on the rear side, but I would personally go for the Huawei Nova 4e because it comes with a way thinner body. However, Huawei P Smart+ 2019 is far from being bad, especially because of its cleaner back cover thanks to the third module of the triple camera that is separated from the rest of the camera department, just like the Huawei P20 Pro.

Display

Given that Huawei P Smart+ 2019 is the only device to feature an LTPS panel, it should guarantee a slightly better display performance. However, it will be just a marginal difference. Huawei Nova 4e and Honor 10i should have exactly the same viewing quality. In each case, we are talking about more than sufficient panels. We do not suggest you base your choice on the display as the differences between the panel will never be so noticeable.

Hardware/Software

All of these devices are powered by the same SoC: the midrange-class Kirin 710 running at a max frequency of 2.2 GHz, that is more or less at the same level as the Snapdragon 660 by Qualcomm. So a very nice midrange chipset, but nothing more than that. Huawei Nova 4e wins the hardware comparison because it comes in a more powerful configuration with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. Honor 10i comes right after with its 4/128 GB configuration, while Huawei P Smart+ 2019 takes the last place as it is equipped with just 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage.

Camera

The Honor 10i seems to boast the most performing camera department, but we will have to test it thoroughly in order to establish if it will really click better photos than the Huawei Nova 4e. It has a main 24 MP sensor, an ultrawide lens with an 8 MP resolution and a 2 MP depth sensor. It is able to record Full HD videos at 60 fps and it even comes with an amazing 32 MP selfie camera. Huawei Nova 4e does not differ so much: it has a lower resolution for the ultrawide lens, but it comes with gyro-EIS. Despite coming with the highest resolutions for the rear cameras, Huawei P Smart 2019 loses the camera comparison for its inferior 8 MP selfie camera.

Battery

There are minimal differences even in the battery capacity of these devices: 3340 mAh for the Huawei Nova 4e and 3400 mAh for Honor 10i and Huawei P Smart 2019. The software optimization will be decisive and we will know which phone is optimized in the best way only after testing all of them. For now, I would choose the Huawei Nova 4e despite its smaller capacity because it comes with a faster charging technology (18W).

Price

Huawei Nova 4e costs €270/$308 in China, Huawei P Smart 2019 costs €350/$400 in the global market, still no word on the pricing of the Honor 10i. At the end of the day, Huawei Nova 4e wins the comparison for its slightly better hardware, amazing cameras, thinner body, and a faster charging technology.

The Huawei P Smart+ 2019 is already listed on Huawei’s official website and the specs and images match what we saw on the leaked poster of the Enjoy 9s. The phone’s existence was brought to our attention via a tweet by Roland Quandt.

The P Smart+ 2019 has a 6.21-inch 2340 x 1080 display with a Dewdrop notch. The display has an Eye Comfort mode that protects the eyes from harmful blue light and is certified as safe by TÜV Rheinland.

It is powered by the Kirin 710 which is paired with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage (512GB max.). The Enjoy 9s has 128GB of storage but the RAM is still unknown.

The poster for the Enjoy 9s revealed the phone has a 24MP AI triple rear camera with one of the sensors being an ultra-wide angle camera. The P Smart+ 2019 has the same camera configuration – a 24MP main sensor, a 16MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. The selfie camera is an 8MP sensor.

The camera has tons of features including Handheld Night Mode, AI photography which can identify more than 500 scenes and has 22 different categories, and 480fps slow-motion recording.

Design

A lot of midrange smartphones owners have to deal with ugly aesthetics or cheap materials. It is not the case with the Huawei P Smart (2019) that comes with a design similar to flagships. It has a very beautiful glass back with gradient colors, as well as a borderless display coming with a minimal dewdrop notch. Lenovo S5 Pro GT is not as beautiful as the Huawei P Smart 2019, but it comes with a more solid build quality due to its full metal unibody design. Further, it has an IR face recognition system and stereo speakers making the design uglier but improving the functionalities. Samsung Galaxy M20 comes with the highest screen-to-body ratio, but i do not like its body too much and Huawei P Smart 2019 is definitely better aesthetically.

Display

Besides having the most beautiful design, Huawei P Smart (2019) has also a display with the most advanced technologies that can deliver a better viewing quality. Lenovo S5 Pro GT is at the same level, but it has a way bigger notch that looks a bit anachronistic. Despite that, I prefer the Lenovo S5 Pro GT as a multimedia phone because it features louder stereo speakers that can guarantee a better experience with videos. Even though it has narrower bezels, Samsung Galaxy M20 takes the last place when it comes to display and multimedia.

Specs & Software

The Kirin 710 chipset found on the Huawei P Smart (2019) is the one which proved to a more powerful chipset compared to the Exynos 7904 on the Galaxy M20. However, Huawei P Smart (2019) comes with max 3 GB of RAM, that is not so much to push that chipset to the top. So for multi-tasking lovers, Galaxy M20 may result better. But overall I would choose the Lenovo S5 Pro GT because it comes with the more powerful Snapdragon 660. It is also the only one to sport up to 6 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of internal storage. And besides over-classing the performance levels of the Kirin 710 in the most demanding scenarios, it is also very efficient in terms of energy consumption.

Camera

Lenovo S5 Pro GT has the most unique and surprising camera department. On the rear side, it has a dual setup with 12 and 20 MP sensors that can perform 2x optical zoom without losing details. On the front side, unlike its opponents, it boasts another dual camera that consists of a main 20 MP sensor and a depth sensor to enhance the bokeh effect with selfies. The second place goes to Samsung Galaxy M20 which comes with the classic main sensor + depth sensor configuration on the back, but it captures bright shots.

Battery

Given its much bigger battery (5000 mAh!) and the usual software optimization by Samsung, we believe that Samsung Galaxy M20 will have up to twice the battery life of Lenovo S5 Pro GT and Huawei P Smart 2019, at least in some scenarios. That does not mean that its rivals have short battery life, but Samsung Galaxy M20 is one of the longest-lasting phones on a single charge so far.

Price

Lenovo S5 Pro GT wins the comparison due to its better performances, excellent cameras and useful additional features such as stereo speakers and IR face recognition. It costs about €200/$226, while Samsung Galaxy M20 debuted in China for €150/$170 and Huawei P Smart 2019 costs about €250/$285.

Design

The design is an aspect on which both Huawei and Xiaomi are focusing a lot in the last period. Indeed, all these devices are incredibly beautiful and well-built. Talking about the look, the one I like more is the Honor 10 Lite due to its high screen-to-body ratio and the gradient color variants, but I would prefer Redmi Note 7 due to its more solid build quality. Indeed, according to the company, the rear glass is very resistant and the display also comes with the Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Further, Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is water and dust resistant, even though no IP certification was provided.

Display

No matter which device you buy, you will get more or less the same display quality from these handsets. But Huawei P Smart (2019) should be slightly better in terms of viewing quality because LTPS panels are able to provide a lower power consumption as well as more controlled temperature ranges and a higher contrast. Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 has a slightly bigger display (just 0.1 inches), while Huawei P Smart 2019 and Honor 10 Lite have exactly the same display size.

Specs & Software

Just like the displays, even the hardware departments of these handsets do not differ so much. I would prefer the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 because in my opinion, it has a better GPU inside the Snapdragon 660 chipset. Huawei Honor 10 Lite takes the second place with its Kirin 710, while Huawei P Smart 2019 takes the last spot of the ranking because it does not have a variant with 6 GB of RAM, neither 128 GB of internal storage. All the devices come with the latest Android version out of the box (Android Pie), but while Redmi Note 7 has the MIUI 10 to customize it, Huawei P Smart 2019 and Honor 10 Lite have the EMUI 9 installed.

Camera

The best camera side belongs to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7. It is equipped with the new Samsung’s sensor sporting a resolution of 48 MP and a secondary 5 MP depth sensor. It provides a stunning detail in photos for a midrange, as well as low levels of noise in low-light conditions. Honor 10 Lite has a great camera too, better than Huawei P Smart 2019, but it is far from its Xiaomi’s rival. But when it comes to the front camera, Honor 10 Lite should be the best with its 24 MP resolution and f/2.0.

Battery

With a 4000 mAh unit, Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 will be able to provide the longest battery life. It should have no problems lasting up to two days on a single charge, while Huawei P Smart 2019 and Honor 10 Lite have just an average battery life: one day with moderate use. Further, Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 has the support to Quick Charge 4.0, while its opponents do not offer any kind of fast charging technology.

Price

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 debuted in China with a price tag of about $147, Huawei P Smart 2019 costs about €250 in the global market, and Honor 10 Lite was launched with a €210 price tag. I would personally pick Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 not only for the price but also for its great camera and its long lasting battery.

Design

The aesthetic differences between Lenovo Z5s, Huawei P Smart 2019 and Honor 10 Lite are just marginal. Honor 10 Lite is the one I like more because of its cleaner design, but some may prefer Lenovo Z5s because of its more magnetic gradient colors. Whatever you choose, you will get a beautiful device with an awesome glass back. If you want better build quality, you should go for the Lenovo Z5s because it is the only with the Gorilla Glass protection, so it should be more resistant.

Display

Displays are not a key point of these smartphones. They have midrange-class IPS panels. Honor 10 Lite should be the inferior one as it does not feature the LTPS technology, unlike its rivals. Huawei P Smart (2019) is my favorite because it has a smaller notch, but at the same time, it has slightly thicker bezels and, as said above, it does not seem to feature the Gorilla Glass protection, unlike Lenovo Z5s.

Specs & Software

Lenovo Z5s is a champion of performances in its price range. It comes with a Snapdragon 710 chipset which provides way faster and smoother performances than Kirin 710 in every scenario, with a 10 nm production process and a max frequency of 2.2 GHz. It also comes with up to 6 GB of RAM. Huawei P Smart 2019 is the most disappointing one as it only features 3 GB of RAM, while Honor 10 Lite sits in the middle with Kirin 710 and up to 6 GB of RAM.

Camera

If we talk about the rear camera setup, Lenovo Z5s is a superior handset thanks to its triple camera composed of a main 16 MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture, a secondary telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom and a third sensor which is able to capture depth info. If we talk about the front camera, Honor 10 Lite should be better with its AI-backed 24 MP snapper. Huawei P Smart (2019) is disappointing on both sides even though its camera quality is sufficient for its price tag.

Battery

Given that Lenovo Z5s is still not on the shelves, we still can not give you info about its battery life, but we believe that, even though it has a slightly smaller battery, it might last more than its opponent because of its well-optimized SoC. Further, it is the only phone of the trio to support a fast charging technology, while Huaei P Smart 2019 and Honor 10 Lite come with standard 5V / 2A charging.

Price

There is no challenge, Lenovo released a device with an outstanding price tag, at least regarding the Chinese market. If it lands in Europe and its price does not raise a lot, Lenovo Z5s may become the best-buy of the moment. It is the winner the comparison and it was launched with a price tag of about €220/$202. Huawei P Smart 2019 costs about €250/$285 in Europe and it is a cool price for a device like this, but Honor 10 Lite costs less despite being a better device than Huawei P Smart (2019), so it takes the second place of this comparison. You can find it for just €240/$274 in Europe. But at the end of the day, I would definitely choose Lenovo Z5s even if it had a sub-€300/$343 price tag.

The Huawei P Smart 2019 was recently certified by the US FCC. In addition, a couple of renders of the device have also been spotted online given us an idea of the design style that Huawei will be deploying on the model. The P Smart 2019 was listed briefly by popular French retailer Boulanger. The listing was quickly taken off but not before details have gotten into the public arena.

Called the Huawei P Smart 2019, the phone has been seen on the FCC’s website along with some of its specs.

The Huawei P Smart 2019 has the model number POT-LX3. Sketches of the device on the FCC shows it will have dual rear cameras arranged vertically, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a notch. Based on the small size, the notch will most definitely have a water-drop design.

The Huawei P Smart 2019 is said to sport a 6.2-inch screen, 3GB of RAM with 32GB or 64GB of storage. It isn’t confirmed yet but since the original P Smart is powered by a Kirin 659 SoC, its successor is expected to come with a Kirin 710 processor. The FCC documents also say it has support for LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 7, and 28. It will also be available in single SIM and dual-SIM variants with a 3320mAh battery.
