Touted as the world’s leading provider of information and communications equipment, Huawei is one of the most coveted brands when it comes to smartphones. Continuing to offer amazing mobile devices at unbeatable prices, Huawei has launched a new promotion on AliExpress.

Dubbed as New Arrivals From Huawei, the recently kicked-off promo offers a wide selection of smartphones, mobile phone accessories and other recently arrived products at lowered prices. The activity page features the HUAWEI P SMART Z, MATE 20 LITE, and the P20 LITE smartphones.

More importantly, you can get your hands on the aforesaid mobile phones without burning a hole in your pocket. As part of the aforesaid promo, Huawei is offering the well-received P20 Lite smartphone for just $492.49. This is a noteworthy reduction in the device’s original asking price of $639.60. It may be very hard for some people to choose between these three devices, that is why we hope this comparison will clear their ideas in regards.

Design

Given that they both have pop-up cameras and notch-less displays, Honor 9X Pro and Huawei P Smart Z look more futuristic and beautiful than Huawei Nova 5. Between these twos, I prefer the Honor 9X Pro because of its amazing light effects creating an X pattern on its rear side. Further, Honor 9X Pro boasts a side-mounted fingerprint reader which makes the rear side cleaner. But if you do not like pop-up cameras and you want an in-display fingerprint reader, then Huawei Nova 5 and its waterdrop notch is undoubtedly your best choice.

Display

Both Honor 9X Pro and Huawei P Smart Z are equipped with an IPS display, while Huawei Nova 5 is the only to sport a higher-end OLED panel. It is a display with a very high 108 percent DCI-P3 coverage, so it shows more brilliant and accurate colors, as well as deeper blacks. On the other hand, it is the smallest panel with a diagonal of just 6.39 inches, while both Honor 9x Pro and Huawei P Smart Z have 6.59-inch displays.

Specs & Software

Huawei P Smart Z loses the hardware comparison at the beginning because it is simply equipped with a lower-end chipset and it comes in just one configuration with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. Honor 9X Pro is definitely the most impressive because it boasts a better Kirin 810 chipset realized with a 7 nm production process, 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage. Huawei Nova 5 has exactly the same hardware department but just 128 GB of internal storage.

Camera

The most complete and versatile camera setup belongs to the Huawei Nova 5 which is equipped with a quad rear camera. It includes an amazing 48 MP main sensor, a 16 MP wide sensor, a depth sensor, and even a dedicated macro camera. Last but not least, it has a better selfie camera than its internal rivals, with a 32 MP resolution. The Honor 9X Pro has a triple rear camera, it lacks the dedicated macro camera and it has a lower resolution for the ultrawide sensor, but it retains the 48 MP main sensor. The less impressive one is the Huawei P Smart Z with just a 16 MP dual camera.

Battery

The weakest point of the Huawei Nova 5 is its battery which comes with only 3500 mAh of capacity (it still offers a more than sufficient battery life), but it is able to charge very quickly thanks to its awesome 40W fast charging. Huawei P Smart Z and Honor 9X Pro have the same 4000 mAh battery but we believe Honor 9X Pro will last more because it boasts a more efficient chipset (12 nm vs 7 nm).

Price

Honor 9X Pro carries a €290/$323 starting price, Huawei P Smart Z costs €280/$312 and Huawei Nova 5 starts from €360/$400. Overall, Huawei Nova 5 is a better phone due to its amazing display and better cameras, but I would go for the Honor 9X Pro because I prefer to have a bigger battery instead of a slightly better (but still midrange-class) screen and cameras.

Is it worth choosing this brand new and different device from the P Smart series or it is better to opt for the P30 Lite or the Honor 20 Lite? This comparison will help you find out.

Design

The design is undoubtedly the main focus of the Huawei P Smart Z. As said above, it is the first Huawei’s phone with a pop-up front camera, which allows the display to reach a screen-to-body ratio close to 100 percent without the need of a notch, neither a punch-hole display. A trend launched by Vivo with the NEX, and it is becoming one of the most used solutions to get rid of bezels around the display. Further, the Huawei P Smart Z comes with a very attractive Google Pixel-like back cover composed of two pieces of different colors. Huawei P30 Lite and Honor 20 Lite are still very beautiful with their waterdrop display and their stunning glass backs available in gradient hues, but Huawei P Smart Z is definitely more original and innovative.

Display

Even when it comes to the display, Huawei P Smart Z is my favorite one. It has a wider 6.59-inch panel which is more comfortable for multimedia and productivity, as well as high brightness, good viewing angles, and no notch. It is still a midrange-class panel, but it is definitely more interesting than Huawei P30 Lite and Honor 20 Lite. On the other hand, Huawei P30 Lite offers a smaller and more compact display (easy to use with one hand) with similar quality.

Specs & Software

Huawei P Smart Z is powered by the new Kirin 710F chipset, while Huawei P30 Lite and Honor 20 Lite are equipped with the Kirin 710. According to Huawei, these two processors offer the same performance but different packaging processes. So, what really makes the difference is the memory configuration. And under this point of view, Huawei P Smart Z loses the comparison. Indeed, Huawei P30 Lite and Honor 20 Lite (Chinese version only for the latter) come with up to 6 GB of RAM, while Huawei P Smart Z stops at 4 GB. In each case, you get Android Pie out of the box customized by EMUI.

Camera

Again, Huawei P Smart Z is the loser here. It has an average dual camera and it is far from being a true camera phone. In its most expensive variant, with its triple camera setup composed of a main 48 MP sensor, an 8 MP ultrawide lens and a 2 MP depth sensor, Huawei P30 Lite wins the camera comparison. But if we consider front cameras, then Honor 20 Lite is better with its astonishing 32 MP selfie snapper.

Battery

Alongside its innovative design, the battery is the strongest point of the Huawei P Smart Z. It wins the battery life comparison thanks to a big 4000 mAh unit, while Huawei P30 Lite and Honor 20 Lite are equipped with average 3400 and 3350 mAh batteries.

Price

Honor 20 Lite costs €299/$335 in the global market (4/128 GB), Huawei P Smart Z costs €280/$315 (4/64 GB) and Huawei P30 Lite starts from €290/$325 (4/128 GB). Overall, Huawei P Smart Z looks better due to its big battery, bigger display, and more innovative design. But if you want higher-end cameras, then go for the Huawei P30 Lite.

Amazon listed the device for €279 which roughly converts to $310/CNY 2095. The order will ship with a free 16GB MicroSD card. Amazon has pulled down the page but we expect it to be back up when the device is officially unveiled. However, don’t expect a special event, this will most likely be just an online launch.

What’s interesting about this phone is that it is the company’s first phone to features a notch-less display as well as a pop-up selfie camera. Now, reliable tipster and industry expert Evan Blass has shared high-resolution official render of the same phone to give a clearer of its design.

The new render shows that there are three attractive things about the design of the Huawei P Smart Z. First, it features a large-sized display without a notch. It allows the phone to offer a very high screen-to-body ratio. Second, it is equipped with a pop-up selfie camera. Lastly, the rear panel of the P Smart Z sports a two-tone design like the Google Pixel phones.

The first-generation Pixel phones had the fingerprint scanner placed in the upper shiny portion of the back panel. However, on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 series, the size of the shiny portion was reduced, and the fingerprint scanner was placed on the matte potion on the rear panel. The Huawei P Smart Z’s two-tone design is similar to the original Pixel series. A dual camera setup with LED flash and a fingerprint scanner is placed in the upper glossy portion whereas the matte portion is almost barren as it features only a Huawei logo at the bottom-left corner. The volume buttons and power key are placed on the right edge of the smartphone.

Yesterday, a number of new devices were approved by the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC). Some are successors to already existing models and others are new models entirely.

Honor 20 and Honor 20 Pro

Thanks to trademark applications filed by Huawei last year, we already know the successors to the Honor 10 series will not be the Honor 11 but the Honor 20. The Honor 20 series will include the Honor 20 itself, the Honor 20A, Honor 20C, and Honor 20X.

The EEC documents reveal the Honor 20 will have the model number YAL-L21 and it will bring along the Honor 20 Pro whose model number is YAL-L41. The Honor 20 will be a flagship phone with a Kirin 980 processor. There are reports it will have a triple camera setup on its rear which includes a 48MP primary sensor paired with a 20MP secondary sensor and another 8MP sensor. It has also been reported that it will have a 32MP selfie camera, a 3,650mAh battery, and run Android 9 Pie out of the box. There is no info on the Honor 20 Pro but we expect a bigger display, a bigger battery, and a different camera configuration.

Huawei Y5 (2019) and Huawei P Smart Z

Huawei already launched the Huawei Y6 (2019) and the Huawei Y7 (2019). The EEC documents reveal there will be a Huawei Y5 (2019) too. The phone has the model number AMN-LX9 and should have fewer features compared to the Y6 and Y7.

Another phone called the Huawei P Smart Z also received approval. The device’s model number is STK-LX1 which is identical to that of another phone called the Huawei P Smart Pro which also got approved by the EEC about a week ago.

There is no information on the specs of these phones.

Realme 3 Pro, Vivo 1901 and Vivo 1902

Huawei and Honor are not the only brands that got EEC approvals. Realme also got approval for its upcoming Realme 3 Pro. Vivo’s entry-level Vivo 1901 and Vivo 1902 which were seen on Geekbench last week have also been approved by the European agency.

We are not sure which of these phones will hit the market first but we believe the Honor 20 should launch towards the end of April or in early May since the Honor 10 launched in May 2018 too.
