As of recent, Huawei Senior Product Manager, Mr. Wang Yonggang, who is in charge of the development of the Huawei flagship P series lineup of smartphones, broke out the great news that the Huawei P series flagships have exceeded 100 million sales globally(including in China) in total since it launched the Huawei Ascend P1 almost 10 years ago. Through a blog post in the Huawei Xinsheng online forum (an online community for Huawei users in China), he shared the many milestones that Huawei has achieved in the smartphone market throughout the 10 years since Huawei launched its first flagship, the Huawei Ascend P1, back in January 2012.

Huawei first started development for the Huawei Ascend P1 as early as in the summer of 2011, where Huawei wanted to put out its first competitive flagship smartphone to the market to make a name for itself in the industry. Mr. Wang Yonggang recalled that Huawei called in their research team from Beijing, Shanghai, and Xi’an to fly over to Shenzhen to help develop the Huawei Ascend P1 together with their Shenzhen team. 

After many months of market research and prototypes, they finally launched the Huawei Ascend P1 in January 2012 with a 4.3 AMOLED display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 8MP BSI rear camera in a lightweight and 7.6mm unibody, at a flagship price of RMB 2,999(471 USD) at the time. 

Although the Huawei Ascend P1 was not a bestseller by any metrics, it was Huawei’s first step to transition away from a B2B (Business to Business) company to a B2C(Business to Consumer) company with its first-ever flagship smartphone for the Chinese public.

Huawei’s next flagship, the Huawei Ascend P2, however, was not released in China and was instead released outside of China in markets such as the European and Japanese markets in 2013. This was due in part that the Huawei Ascend P2 was equipped with 4G which China did not have a proper rollout till 2014, and therefore Huawei decided to release it in the global market instead. The Huawei Ascend P2 was also the first Huawei flagship to be equipped with Huawei’s in-house Kirin SOC.

The next milestone for Huawei was the Huawei Ascend P6 with its show-stopping ID design, as the P6 was the world’s thinnest smartphone at its release, with a thickness of only 6.18mm. Looking back, it was the Huawei flagship that defined the premium design language of Huawei P series flagships for many years to come. 

The next big leap was the Huawei P9 with its dual rear camera setup. The Huawei P9 was Huawei’s first phone to collaborate with famous camera imaging company Leica, and the P9’s rear camera was equipped with a normal color lens as well as a monochrome lens. The phone then captures the image with both lenses and uses computational software to provide the best-looking photo for the user.

The next generational leap in photography was with the Huawei P20 Pro with its industry-breaking triple camera setup consisting of a wide lens, a monochrome lens, and a telephoto lens for versatile photography. The Huawei P20 Pro also came with the popular colourway Twilight, which solidified Huawei’s flagship design philosophy in the premium market.

The Huawei P30 series adopted a new type of RYYB colored lens for better images, while the P40 series provided marginal upgrades, such as 10x optical zoom for the series.

The Huawei P50 series was quite a confusing flagship lineup until recently. But Huawei launched the P50 Pocket this week, the company’s first-ever clamshell flagship foldable, which proved that Huawei is bringing forward innovation to its P series flagships once again.

Huawei launched the P40 series a few days back. Along with it, the company also debuted a new version of its mobile software dubbed as EMUI 10.1. Seven of the brand’s devices have already started receiving beta updates. But the 2018 Huawei P20 series is not one of them as it currently receiving a new stable update with build number EMUI 10.0.0.172.

The new EMUI 10.0.0.172 stable update for the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro weighs 722 MB in size. The update brings three new features to the devices along with April 2020 security patch.

The users of Huawei P20 series can finally use the company’s new multi-screen collaboration feature with the new update. Files can be now easily shared between supported Huawei MateBook laptops and the phone by simply performing drag and drop operations. Also, users can now mirror their phone on the laptop and even control it from there. This feature initially debuted on the Huawei Mate 30 series last year.

The second new feature is Screen Sharing, which enables users to share their smartphone screens on video calls to discuss meetings, plans, and more. Lastly, the third new feature is an AI-powered smart battery charging mode. This feature is turned on by default and it avoids charging the phone’s battery to full by slowing down the charging speed to increase its lifespan.

As of now, this update is only available for the Chinese variants of the Huawei P20 and Huawei P20 Pro. We expect it too soon reach the international versions of the devices in the coming days.

Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, has sparked national security concerns after he was spotted taking selfie with a Huawei smartphone.

This comes at a time when the Chinese giant Huawei is at the centre of the argument whether using Huawei’s hardware is safe to use. This is because of the close relations of the company with China’s government.

Such concerns have also led to questions about allowing Huawei, the world’s largest telecommunications equipment maker, to help build the UK’s internet infrastructure. Now, the person who endorsed such concerns is himself spotted using smartphone of the very same company.

Reports say that Boris Johnson used Huawei P20 smartphone for taking a selfie alongside  ITV’s This Morning presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby. However, a Conservative spokesman subsequently denied the phone was the Prime Minister’s.

As mentioned earlier, the use of the phone comes amidst heated debate around the company and allegations of its close links to the Chinese state. Critics have argued that Huawei’s telecoms equipment could be used to spy on people in the West, the claim which Huawei has always denied.

United States, which has put Huawei on the “Entity List”, previously suggested that future co-operation with other members of the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing partnership – the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand – could be jeopardised if the Chinese company was given a role in the UK’s 5G infrastructure.

Boris Johnson had earlier said he would not compromise Britain’s national security over whether to give the telecoms firm a role in building the UK’s 5G network. He said: “On Huawei and 5G, I don’t want this country to be unnecessarily hostile to investment from overseas. On the other hand, we cannot prejudice our vital national security interests, nor can we prejudice our ability to co-operate with other Five Eyes security partners, and that will be how – that will be the key criterion that informs our decision about Huawei.”

The Chinese giant Huawei also remains the subject of a Government review into whether it should be allowed into “non-essential” parts of UK 5G infrastructure. That decision for the same is expected after the General Election.

Can your phone survive a fall from the 21st floor of a building and still work? We doubt if even the rugged smartphones around like Blackview, Nomu models can survive that. But a user of the Huawei P20 has an interesting story to tell after his phone accidentally slipped and fell while he was at the balcony of the 21st floor of a building. The owner had expected the phone to disintegrate completely when it hit the ground but that didn’t happen. Sure, the P20 model took some heavy bashing as a result of the fall but curiously, the phone did not stop working. As can be seen on the pictures shared, the phone still stayed powered on.

According to the owner, some features even continued working seamlessly. Features such as Face Unlock, fingerprint sensor, Bluetooth. Apart from physical damage to the fuselage and a broken rear camera, other features and apps such as the internet connection, WeChat etc still works normally. You can even receive calls with the phone.

This obviously extols the build quality of the P20 as the height is more than 50 metres and way above the 50 metres drop-standard of most mobile phones. So, the device was just plain lucky to have survived the fall from such a height. Huawei China has offered to fix the phone. We’re sure the company may end up doling out a new one. It is also adviced that users get a protective casing.

In an attempt to increase the screen size and to keep up with the bezel-less design trend started off by Essential Phone and iPhone X, smartphone OEMs have jumped onto the notched-display bandwagon. Display notches are essentially a cut-out, at the top, of a part of the smartphone’s display. Some of the advantages of display notches are it offers the ability to retain the display area on either side of it, for showing information such as time, battery percentage and more.

With display notches, smartphone OEMs are now in a position to provide maximum screen space without abandoning the critical hardware at the top, such as the Selfie Camera, Receiver Speaker, other Sensor, LED Indicators., etc. Now, you can get a 5.5-inch sized smartphone with a 6.2-inch display on it.

Whether you love it or hate it, here are the different types of display notches- smartphones with notched-display.

iPhone X Notch

Apple’s iPhone X came with a spectacular edge-to-edge display that dominates the entire front of the smartphone. Well, nearly the entire front side of the phone. Unlike the Android flagships such as the Pixel XL 2, Samsung’s Galaxy S8, and LG’s V30, iPhone X didn’t come with a top bezel; instead, it came with a wide display notch which looked odd.

The notch on the iPhone X contains the TrueDepth camera system, which powers the iPhone’s Face ID facial recognition technology. It also incorporates the hardware elements required for Apple’s all-new Animoji feature and an IR sensor.

Before the launch of iPhone X, the display notches (design) sparked a lot of discussions among consumers and industry experts, much of it negative. But over the time, hate for the notch has faded away as many people have become used to Apple’s design choice. Android smartphone manufacturers are now embracing the notch concept on their smartphones.

Medium-sized Notch (Oneplus 6, Asus Zenfone 5Z, Huawei P20 Pro, etc.)

Soon after the unveiling of iPhone X, a large number of Android smartphone makers have joined the bandwagon and released smartphones with the displays that have a notch. The Huawei P20 Pro, OnePlus 6 and Asus Zenfone 5Z too came with a notched display (but a smaller one).

Unlike the iPhone X, Android phones such as the OnePlus 6 came with several new features that allow users to control the notch in whatever way they want. Users can turn it off (notch) in the Display Settings.

By doing so, a regular black bar will appear on the top of the display which is similar to the regular black bar that we used to see on many other Android phones. On that black bar, system time, battery indicator, as well as notifications, will be displayed. If you don’t like the notch, you can make it disappear. This is a unique feature that is not yet available in the Apple’s iPhone X.

Water-Drop Notch (Essential PH-1, Oppo F9 Pro, Vivo V11 Pro)

Essential was the first to launch a smartphone with a “notch” ahead of Apple. Of course, Apple overshadowed Essential just a few weeks later with the iPhone X notch. Oppo coined the name waterdrop notch with the launch of Oppo F9 Pro.

While Essential PH-1 notch (similar to Oppo F9 Pro notch) didn’t get mainstream, a host of Android phones such as Vivo V11 Pro have been launched with a waterdrop notch.

While the ‘regular’ notch mostly contains the speaker, front-facing selfie cameras and other types of sensors such as notification led, IR blasters.

The waterdrop notch – due its shape and size – isn’t that accommodating, it contains only the front-facing camera. Its primary purpose is to offer more screen real estate on the phone’s display. No doubt it is an attractive design element, but the functionality of the waterdrop notch remains a bit foggy.

In other words, the waterdrop notch is a nice differentiator among the crowded notched-display phones, but it is low on functionality.

Final Thoughts

The notch-display design is now a mainstream design element, especially with the launch of budget Realme 2, which claims to be the most affordable phone with a display notch. The Realme 2 comes with a starting price point of Rs 8,990 (125 USD).

The display notch exists on the Apple’s iPhone X because it needs a wide array of sensors on the front for Face ID tech, but on Android, notched-display is just an aesthetic choice. The notch might not be a permanent fixture for Android smartphones.

Android phones such as the Vivo Nex, Oppo Find X have taken the full-screen experience to a whole new level. With a motorized pop-up camera, these phones came with no ugly notches and massive 92-93.5% screen-to-body ratio.

There are several reasons a pop-up camera such as the one in the Vivo Nex might not be ideal (long-term reliability being the main one). But design changes such as the Oppo Find X and Vivo Nex shows that smartphone makers are experimenting with new ideas to get rid of the ugly notch. Essential, which released the first smartphone with a notched-display, also filed a patent for a similar camera design found in Vivo Nex.

Notch Battery Bar app will show the bright green color when your device is fully charged, and it will fade to light green upon some usage. Later, it will turn to yellow-brown and then red when your battery is at a critical level.

At IFA 2018, Huawei revealed some new colors for the Huawei P20 series. Particularly, talking about Huawei P20 device, then it has two new colors ie. Aurora Flash and Pearl White. While the P20 Pro got some additional love from the company as four new colors were added to its wardrobe. So, the P20 pro is now available with Morpho Aurora, Pearl White, Gold Brown and Elegant Black color variants which we pictured a week ago.

Huawei P20 series new colors have already been pre-sold to users. The new colors schemes will be up for grabs at Huawei Mall from Today at 12:08 hours. Talking about the Morpho Aurora color, it gives a gradient look from the different angles and the there’s similar story for White Pearl. It also changes color from different angles but the saturation is very high. The other Two Gold Brown and Elegant Black are made out of Leather and have comfortable grip to hold.

Huawei P20 Aurora Butterfly and Pearl White color is available in both 6/64 GB and 6/128GB variants and pricing is 3388 Yuan (~$495)  and 3888 Yuan (~$568) respectively. Talking about the Huawei P20 Pro, then the Morpho Aurora, Pearl White are available for both the variants and are priced 4488 Yuan (~$656) for 64 GB and 4988 yuan (~$729) from 128 GB variant.

Huawei has posted images on its Weibo account which suggests that the company is prepared to launch two new color variants of the Huawei P20 series smartphones. The text posted along with the image reveals that the launch will take place on 31st August, during the IFA 2018 in Berlin.

The Huawei P20 series is already available in two colors — Aurora and Sakura Pink. The images related to the upcoming two new colors suggest that the China-based manufacturer could introduce Purple and Pearl White colors on 31st August.

The Huawei P20 sports a 5.8-inch TFT LCD display with a screen resolution of 2244 x 1080 pixels and a pixel density of 428PPI, while the Huawei P20 Pro boasts a 6.1-inch AMOLED display that supports 2240 x 1080 pixels resolution and an aspect ratio of 18.7:9. Under the hood, both devices pack a powerful Hisilicon Kirin 970 processor along with a Mali-G72 MP12 GPU.

While the P20 comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, the P20 Pro packs 6GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage. The Huawei P20 Pro is the first smartphone ever to feature a triple camera setup that includes a 40-megapixel RGB sensor, an 8-megapixel telephoto sensor, and a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor. The P20, on the other hand, houses a 20-megapixel and 12-megapixel dual camera setup.

Google’s latest Android 9.0 Pie is already with us and users of the Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL and Essential Phone are already rocking the loads of new features the new version has to offer. The manner Google suddenly rolled out the update for Android pie Stable ROM was, to say the least, surprising. Thus, the race is on for early adopters and already Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s and Nokia 7 Plus have reportedly started getting updates. There are also indications Huawei is planning to be one of the early bird.

The Chinese tech giant may roll out Android Pie on its latest smartphones soon. The company officially announced on its Pollen Club forum that it has started testing Android Pie on four of its smartphones. All the phones are flagship models and the models include Huawei Mate 10 Pro, Huawei P20 as well as the Honor 10 and Honor V10. We believe this will also include the Huawei P20 Pro since the P20 is listed.

Last week, Huawei announced that will soon open its beta testing program for the EMUI 8.1 for the users of Huawei P20 and Huawei P20 Pro smartphones. Now, the company has officially started rolling out the update which comes with Huawei’s GPU Turbo technology.

Earlier, the company said that the beta testing program was limited to 2,000 participants but it seems that Huawei has now started rolling out the update for all the users of the P20 series smartphones. To get this update, users can log-in to the member service application and navigate to the service section. In that, once the user opts to upgrade to the early adopters, the system will be upgraded to the version number EML-AL00 8.1.0.150 (C00).

Most of the changes for the EMUI 8.1 are minor but the update brings Huawei’s “breakthrough technology” GPU Turbo which promises double-digit gains in performance and efficiency. The company claims that the technology provides 60 percent better graphics performance and 30 percent better SoC power consumption.

Earlier, the company had officially announced the EMUI 8.1 beta testing for the customers using the Mate-series, P-series, Honor V10, Honor 10 and Honor 9i smartphones. After the P20-series, the users of Honor 9, Honor V9, Honor Play 7X, and Honor 9 Youth Edition will get their hands on this new feature.

Huawei has been crushing its sales targets for a few years now and it appears this year will be no different. The Chinese manufacturer has revealed that it has sold 6 million units of its P20 series smartphones.

According to Huawei, that figure is an increase of 81% compared to that of the P10 series. The P20 series includes the P20 Lite, the P20, and the triple camera P20 Pro.

We believe the figure would probably be higher if the deal with AT&T didn’t fall apart at the last minute.

Kevin Ho who is the president of Huawei’s Handsets Product Line is quoted as saying “The incredible reception and sales performance of the Huawei P20 Series demonstrate that we understand our markets, and show our commitment to innovation and R&D”.

The Honor 10 can be termed a cheaper version of the Huawei P20. It has nearly the same internals save for the Leica-Huawei co-developed sensors. Its cheaper price tag has paid off as Honor has announced that it has sold over a million units since it went on sale.

The Honor 10 was released on April 19 in China and went on sale online and offline on April 27. Less than 5 minutes after it went on sale, Honor said online sales had crossed ¥400 million.

Today, Honor’s President, Zhao Ming, took to Weibo to announce that they have sold over a million units of the Honor 10 smartphone. This figure is only for China and doesn’t include the new markets the Honor 10 launched in recently.

The Honor 10 has a 5.84-inch display with a notch at the top and a 2280 x 1080 resolution. It is powered by the Kirin 970 processor which has a dedicated NPU for AI tasks. The chipset is paired with 6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of storage.

The Honor 10 may not have the Huawei P20’s Leica cameras but its sensors also have AI features. The primary camera is a 16MP sensor and it is paired with a 24MP secondary sensor. However, it uses the same 24MP selfie camera as the P20 series which also packs a lot of features and supports Face Unlock.

The rest of the specs include NFC, a USB-C port, a 3.5mm audio jack, a dedicated Hi-Fi audio chip, and a 3,320mAh battery with support for Huawei’s Supercharge fast charging.

The 64GB Honor 10 is sold for ¥2599 (~$408) and the 128GB model is priced at ¥2999 (~$471).

Huawei P20 and P20 Pro were the first smartphones to launch with a glass backplate boasting gradient colors. One of the gradient hues launched is Aurora, which appears as a special combo of purple and green. The colors change depending on how the light reflects on the elegant glass back, and the Aurora gradient color is making the latest Huawei flagships literally iconic in terms of aesthetics.

But until now the Aurora color was only available with the Huawei P20 Pro. Now, the company has decided to launch even the less expensive Huawei P20 in the Aurora gradient color. Huawei is all set to launch its latest smartphones — Huawei P20 Pro and Huawei P20 Lite in the Indian market today. Now, ahead of the phone’s official launch in India, the pricing of the P20 Lite model has been leaked online.

According to the newly leaked images, which reveals key features of the device, the Huawei P20 Lite will be priced at Rs. 19,999 in the Indian market, which roughly translates to $301 or €245.

If this turns out to be true, then the Indians are getting a much better deal for the P20 Lite. For comparison, the same smartphone has a recommended retail price of €369 in Europe.

Earlier, it was confirmed that the Huawei’s P20 series will be available for purchase in India exclusively through online retailer Amazon India. The eCommerce platform has already started taking registrations for the smartphones from the interested buyers.

Coming to the specifications, the P20 Lite sports a 5.84-inch display with screen resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels and 19:9 aspect ratio with a notch. Under the hood, the device is powered by the company’s own Kirin 659 chipset, coupled with 4GB RAM. While the phone comes in two storage options — 32GB or 64GB, in India, it is expected to come with 64GB internal storage.

For the photography, the smartphone comes with a 16-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual rear camera setup. On the front side, the Indian variant of the phone comes with a 24-megapixel selfie snapper. The international model comes with a with a 16-megapixel camera sensor on the front. Running on Android Oreo operating system out of the box, the smartphone is powered by a 3,000mAh battery.

The handset has just received its first official award by TIPA (Technical Image Press Association), a non-profit organization which cooperates with 30 publications in the photography and images sector every year, in order to create ranking that establish which are the best cameras in the market. TIPA tests and evaluates cameras every year, then selects the best ones for its rankings and assigns awards for several sectors of photography.

According to TIPA, Huawei P20 Pro is the best photo smartphone of 2018. The handset features the first triple camera in the mobile phone markets. Its rear setup is composed of a 40 MP primary RGB sensor with a f/1.8 aperture, a secondary monochromatic sensor with a 20 MP resolution and a f/1.6 aperture, and a third 8 MP telephoto lens with a f/2.4 aperture and OIS. It can record 4K videos and 960fps slow-motion videos in 720p. TIPA’s award is not the only confirmation of the outstanding photographic performance of the latest Huawei’s flagship. Currently, the device is also at the first place of the best camera phones ranking by DxOMark with a score of 109 points.

The second and third place are actually taken by the standard P20 and Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus with 102 and 99 points, respectively. The big sensors are not the only elements contributing to the incredible photo quality of these flagships: there is also an outstanding algorithm handling photos and videos. The rear triple camera also supports artificial intelligence to improve the quality through scene recognition and other smart features, thanks to the NPU (Neural Processing Unit) present in the octa-core Kirin 970 SoC.

If you like new Huawei P20-series phones but can’t decide if the P20 or P20 Pro is best for you, this article may give you an answer. If you want to learn more about each device, check out our Huawei P20 review and the Huawei P20 Pro review.

First of all, the price. The P20 is cheaper as it retails for about 650 EUR, at least in Europe. The Pro model costs about 850 EUR, making it a much more expensive device. Check out the video description for product links if you are interested.

The first major difference is the camera setup.

The P20 Pro uses one of the most compelling camera systems on the market. It uses 3 cameras with a powerful 40MP shooter leading the way.

The P20 has a more conventional dual camera setup that uses Leica optics, just like the P20 Pro.

In practice, I found daylight image quality to be very similar. However, the P20 Pro excels in low light. In fact, the Pro model is one of the best smartphones when it comes to night photography. Other aspects like selfie image and video quality are nearly identical. Both phones follow a similar design language but the P20 Pro is simply a more beautiful device to look at. The twilight gradient color finish makes it one of the most beautiful phones out there. However, the P20 is smaller, lighter and therefore, it’s easier to manage this phone in one hand.

Even though the display on the P20 is slightly smaller than on the P20 Pro, it sports the same resolution. The phone uses LCD panel instead of OLED but I found the quality of screen to be very good. However, the screen on the P20 Pro is better. The colors look more vibrant and punchier, and the contrast level is better.

Here a few more aspects why the P20 Pro is better than the P20: it has a better sounding dual stereo loudspeaker system whereas the P20 has only one speaker on the bottom. Also, the P20 Pro has a higher water and dust resistance rating of IP67 instead of IP53 and some extra features like an IR blaster. Finally, the P20 Pro has 6GB of RAM instead of 4 found on the P20. On the other hand, day to day and gaming performance are identical on each phone.

Battery life is definitely one of the strong sides of the new P20 series phones. Even though the P20 has a smaller power bank than the P20 Pro, it has a less power hungry display to power up. On average, I was able to achieve about 7 hours of screen-on time on each phone, which is a very impressive result.

All in all, the Huawei P20 Pro is easily a better phone but it costs about $200 more than the P20, which is also a solid flagship phone. If you want an absolutely premium phone, go with the P20 Pro. If money is more important to you, the P20 has most of the essential flagship features of the P20 Pro, for $200 less.

In the last month, Huawei had launched the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro flagship phones through an unveil event in Paris. In the previous week, the P20 duo were launched in China and today, the Chinese firm has introduced them in Taiwan.

Huawei P20 Pro and P20 Specifications and Features

One of the most striking feature of the Huawei P20 Pro is that it features a 6.1-inch AMOLED display that supports 2240 x 1080 pixels resolution and an aspect ratio of 18.7:9. It offers a screen-to-body ratio of 82 percent. The bezel lying the display features a fingerprint senor enabled home button.

The Huawei P20 Pro is the first smartphone ever to feature a triple camera setup that includes a 40-megapixel RGB sensor, an 8-megapixel telephoto sensor and a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor. The P20 Pro is currently leading the list of best smartphones for photography on DxOMark benchmarking platform. The Leica certified triple camera system offers features like phase detection, laser autofocus, 4K video shooting and LED flash. It has a selfie camera of 24-megapixel.

The Kirin 970 chipset is present under the hood of the P20 Pro. The SoC is coupled with 6 GB of RAM and it features an inbuilt storage of 128 GB. It does not feature a microSD card. The handset is loaded with Android 8.1 Oreo and the latest EMUI 8.1 skin. It has a big battery of 4,000mAh capacity that is assisted with 4.5V/5A fast charging technology.

On the other side, the Huawei P20 has a 5.8-inch LTPS IPS LCD screen that offers the same resolution and aspect ratio like P20 Pro. It features Kirin 970 SoC, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage, dual camera setup featuring 12-megapixel RGB sensor and 20-megapixel monochrome sensor, 24-megapixel front camera and 3,400mAh battery.

The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro were introduced in Europe with respective pricing of 649 euros (~$805) and 899 euros (~$1,114). These phones have respectively arrived in Taiwan for 20,900 (~$712) and 26,900 (~$916). The official sales of the phone will begin in Taiwan from May 1. The P20 comes in Twilight, Pink and Black color options whereas the P20 is available in Black and Midnight Blue.  Customers who pre-order it will be able to take advantage of one-time screen replacement service for free.

Huawei is working on bringing its P20 and P20 Pro smartphones in wider markets. It has recently confirmed that it will be debuting the P20 series in India on April 24.

Huawei did set a target of 20 million units in sales for its latest flagships – the P20 and P20 Pro. The company has headed off to a good start as the sales of both models reportedly generated $15 million in just 10seconds during its first sales. The P20 and P20 Pro went on sale in China last Thursday and as usual, it was sold via a flash sale.

We don’t know the number of units available during the flash sale but for the products to be able to generate up to 100 Million Yuan in sales, the available stock must have been huge. This impressive revenue from the sales of both models gives us an idea of how the models would fare when they eventually become available in other markets. In particular, the P20 Pro is expected to command the larger share of interests as a result of its design and unique triple camera setup.

The Huawei P20 starts at 3700 Yuan while the P20 Pro starts at 4000 yuan. Both models are presently available globally at Huawei authorized retailers and select mobile carriers.

UNBOXING

The P20 ships just with a cable, a charger, a pair of earphones, a headset jack adapter and SIM ejector pin.

Finally, retail units will have a case but I’m not sure if it will look the same as the one I have, which is really nice.

DESIGN and DISPLAY

Once you pick the P20 up, you are definitely going to feel that it is a smaller phone than the P20 Pro and that’s a good thing – it’s easier to manage the device in one hand.

I have a pink gold color option that has a gradient finish. That means that the phone changes the looks in different lighting. In practice, I love the way the P20 looks and feels. The build quality is nothing short of a true flagship thanks to the metal frame and slightly curved glass backplate.

Even though the display on the P20 is slightly smaller than the one found on the P20 Pro, it sports the same resolution. The phone uses LCD panel instead of OLED but I found the quality of screen to be very good.

Inside the notch, you can find a beefy 24MP selfie shooter. Just a bit more info about the notch: you can hide it if you don’t like it.

There is a loudspeaker on the bottom of the device. It may not sound as great as the dual stereo system on the P20 Pro but it is also pretty good. 

One major difference between the Huawei P20 Pro and the P20 – camera setup. The P20 does not have 3 cameras but it ships with a brand new dual Leica system that is capable of taking very good images too. The device ships with a 12MP RGB sensor and 20MP monochrome lens.  I will talk about cameras in detail a bit later in this review.

Another difference – the P20 has a lower IP53 water and dust resistance rating. Honestly, I forgot about it when I was reviewing this phone and I kept the phone underwater for quite some time. Good news is that the phone survived and works as new. However, I don’t recommend you submerging your P20 underwater like I did.

Other features are pretty much identical to the P20 Pro: you get a super fast and reliable fingerprint scanner and Face ID that usually works very well and it allows you to unlock the phone very fast. You also get a nice LED notification light but the phone does not have a headset jack, so you would need to listen to music using the supplied adapter. Sound quality is really good, just like on the P20 Pro.

HARDWARE and PERFORMANCE

The Huawei P20 ships with almost the same specs as the P20 Pro but it has just 4GB of RAM instead of six (Kirin 970 chipset and 128GB of non-expandable storage).

In practice, I didn’t really notice that the P20 has less RAM than the P20 Pro. I usually start testing phones with playing 3D games to make the processor and GPU work. The overall gaming experience is great as games usually load fast, there is no stutter or lag even if you play the most demanding titles. The performance is great, identical to the P20 Pro.

USER INTERFACE

Just like the Huawei P20 Pro, the P20 runs on Android 8.1 but it looks a lot different than stock Google’s user interface.

As I said in the P20 Pro review that I suggest you check out, I got used to using Huawei phones that run on the EMUI. Yes, it’s different but it has grown on me and I mostly like it for its speed and flexibility. I’ve used the P20 for more than 2 weeks and I’m yet to see the phone lag or stutter. Huawei assures that the phone will remain fast even after 2 years since the AI-powered Kirin 970 chipset has integrated neural processing unit that helps allocate resources to the specific task every time you use the phone. Well, so far so good.

I also like the extra features and customization options Huawei implemented. I can’t say that I need all of them but I found some features to be very useful. It may feel weird at first but I love running two apps side by side by drawing a line in the middle of the screen using a knuckle. That’s just one of many features Huawei gives you with this phone.

CAMERAS

I found the camera app to be really fast and easy to use. My favorite shooting modes include a pro, portrait, aperture and a night mode. One thing that bothers me is that you need to switch the resolution to 10MP if you want to use optical zoom. It’s really annoying and I wish resolution could switch automatically.

Speaking of that zoom, pictures look really nice and sharp.

Daylight image quality is very good thanks to no small part of an AI-powered camera app that detects the scene and applied the best camera settings automatically. As I said in the full P20 Pro review, some images may look oversaturated and punchier than usual but I don’t think it’s a bad thing since most of the images you take are probably going to end up on social media anyway, and they will look nice out of the box. To be honest, it’s hard to see a difference between the quality of daylight pictures of the P20 and the P20 Pro. Both phones can take wonderful photos.

Portrait and aperture modes are used to take pictures with bokeh effect and I think that the overall image quality is pretty good. The objects are sharp and nicely separated from the background with just minimal artifacts.

Low-light is where the P20 shines. Well, if you use the auto-mode, the pictures could have less noise and grain but a dedicated night mode does all the magic. You can take long exposure shots without using a tripod thanks to AI-powered OIS system. While the quality of pictures is slightly worse than on the P20 Pro, it’s still very good and among the best in the game.

Selfies look really nice even though the beauty mode is pretty aggressive.

4k video is very sharp, detailed, continuous auto-focus is reliable and super fast but… video stabilization does not work in 4K mode and you end up with shaky footage. That’s really frustrating but hopefully, this can be improved with the future software updates since the hardware is there. 

If you don’t need 4K, 1080p video looks much better in terms of smoothness. The footage is very stable and it looks nice but obviously, you are losing the sharpness of 4K. It’s worth mentioning that quality of the video is very similar or even identical to the Huawei P20 Pro’s quality.

1080p selfie video looks pretty nice as there is plenty of detail and sharpness, and the sound recording quality is good.

You can also record short clips at 960fps in 720p and the quality is quite decent.

CONNECTIVITY

The P20 is equipped with great mics and earpiece that assure good call quality. I also found signal reception to be very good and other connectivity options like Bluetooth, Wifi and GPS work fine. Finally, there are plenty of sensors to choose from, just like on the Huawei P20 Pro.

BATTERY LIFE

Battery life is definitely one of the strong sides of the P20. Even though it has a smaller power bank than the P20 Pro, it has a less power hungry display to power up. On average, I was able to achieve about 7 hours of screen-on time, which is a very impressive result. Finally, you can charge the device in just about 1,5h using the supplied Huawei’s fast charger.

CONCLUSIONS

The Huawei P20 shapes up to be a solid all-around smartphone that costs less than the P20 Pro and other flagships out there. It’s smaller and lighter than the P20 Pro, yet it sports the same good build and very similar design. I also like the P20 for it’s nice and sharp display, great overall performance, very good cameras and solid battery life.

However, the P20 shares similar issues to the P20 Pro: 4K video lacks image stabilization, there is no headset jack, no microSD card slot, and no wireless charging.

At the end of the day, the P20 is still a very good smartphone, despite a few flaws. In fact, it is a legit flagship phone that costs less than the P20 Pro but it has most its essential features that are packed into a premium metal and glass body. With a notch.

The Indian division of the company has just published an official teaser on Twitter which contains a short video: it clearly refers to the most expensive device from the P20 series. The post includes the hashtag #SeeMooore, which is related to the triple camera setup.

But even though it contains the #HuaweiP20 hashtag, it does not confirm whether the standard version will arrive in India. The price of Huawei P20 Pro in India is not known yet, nor do we know the exact launch date. According to rumors, the handset may launch in the peninsula in the last week of April, and it may be very expensive. In Europe, the device has been launched with a price tag of €899.

I was quite surprised when I saw that this case costs just below $20 since it is well-made and protects the device quite well.

Huawei announced its flagship smartphones — Huawei P20 and P20 Pro earlier this week at a launch event in Paris, France. Now, the smartphones are being teased by the company to soon launch in India.

The company has released a teaser image on its website which reads “Coming Soon In India.” While Huawei has not clarified which device is coming to India, the ‘O’ in the teaser hints at P20 Pro’s triple camera sensor setup.

It is likely that both the smartphones will be exclusively available through Flipkart in India. Huawei has a partnership with online retailer Flipkart in India, which sells the majority of Huawei‘s devices on its marketplace.

The Huawei P20 comes with a 5.8-inch Full-HD+ FullView display with 2244 x 1080 pixels screen resolution while the P20 Pro features a 6.1-inch OLED Full-HD+ FullView display with 2240 x 1080 pixels screen resolution.

Under the hood, both the devices are powered by the company’s own HiSilicon Kirin 970 octa-core processor, coupled with a dedicated NPU (Neural Processing Unit). The Huawei P20 has 4GB of RAM, whereas the P20 Pro comes with 6GB RAM. Both phones have 128GB of onboard storage and support microSD card slot for expanding the storage capacity.

As of the camera department, the P20 has a dual rear camera setup that includes a 12-megapixel RGB sensor along with a f/1.8 aperture and a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor along with a f/1.6 aperture. The Huawei P20 Pro, on the other hand, comes with a triple rear camera setup that has an 8-megapixel sensor with 3x optical zoom, which comes from a Leica telephoto lens, 40-megapixel RGB sensor, and a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor. On the front, both smartphones sport a 24.8-megapixel camera on the front.

Connectivity options on the device include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C. The smartphones run on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system based EMUI 8.1. The smartphones also support Google ARCore and include a 360-degree Face Unlock feature.

While the Huawei P20 packs a 3,400mAh battery while the Huawei P20 Pro has 4,000mAh battery. Both support Huawei SuperCharge — a fast-charging technology that is touted to charge 58 percent of battery in just 30 minutes.

The expected price of these new smartphones for the Indian market hasn’t been revealed yet. However, considering the European pricing for the P20 series, it is expected to be in the high-end range.

Huawei just launched the P20 series phones and the smartphone fans are most interested in the more powerful P20 Pro that we covered a few moments ago. However, the P20 is also a true flagship device that has many of the Pro’s features at a lower price of about 650 EUR. Learn more in our Huawei P20 hands-on review.

The P20 looks and feels very similar in the hand as it is made of metal and glass, it has a notch display and the build quality is excellent. However, differences start with the display. The P20 sports a 5.8″ LCD panel (1080 x 2244 pixels) whereas the P20 Pro has a 6.1″ OLED panel with the same resolution. In practice, the P20’s display looks almost as good as the one found on the P20 Pro.

We have a Pink Gold color option but there will also be a Twilight, Black, Midnight Blue models.

The P20 has 2 sensors instead of a triple camera setup found on the P20 Pro. The phone uses a dual camera system that consists of one 12 MP snapper with f/1.8 aperture lens and another 20 MP shooter with f/1.6 lens. The main camera has OIS, 1/2.3″ sensor size and it uses 1.55 µm pixels.

As for hardware, the P20 has the same Kirin 970 chipset as the P20 Pro, 128GB of internal storage (no microSD card slot) but it has only 4GB of RAM in comparison to 6GB found on the P20 Pro.

I was also impressed by the fact that Huawei managed to cram in a huge 3500mAh battery into such a thin profile of the P20 (149.1 x 70.8 x 7.7 mm).

Other things you need to know about the design: there is no headset jack,  the P20 has a lower IP53 certification in comparison to IP67-certified P20 Pro.  In addition, the P20 has hi-fi wireless audio system that assures great sound quality via the Bluetooth. Finally, the P20 does not have the IR blaster like the P20 Pro.

The P20 has the same software as the P20 Pro. The EMUI 8.1 is based on Android 8.1, which is said to be a more capable platform for the AI.

As usual, there are plenty of features and customization options in the UI Huawei phone have been famous for. My first impressions – the phone is really fast and smooth thanks to the powerful chipset and neural processing unit that helps allocate resources to the specific task. I also found the fingerprint scanner to really fast but I was most impressed with the face unlock feature. I used it in low light but it still unlocks the phone very fast but keep in mind that you still need to press the power button first in order to use it.

My first impressions about the phone – the P20 shapes up to be a solid flagship device. Just as the P20 Pro, it looks and feels premium, the display is really nice and sharp, the overall performance seems to be great and we can’t wait to test other key features of the phone: cameras, battery life and more. Huawei just launched the new P20 series flagships and I’m mostly interested in the P20 Pro, which alongside the P20, are successors to the P10 series that was launched last year in Barcelona. Learn more in our Huawei P20 Pro hands-on review.

In fact, this is a completely new phone with all new design, new powerful cameras, improved AI neural processing unit and much more.

I’m not going to talk about the notch design in Android phones and P20’s similarities to the iPhone X. I will leave that for you, so make sure to use that comment section.

In case you don’t like the notch, you can always hide it. Thanks, Huawei, for giving us options. I will keep the notch as I got used to this design element very quickly.

First of all, let’s get the specs out of the way. Both P20 and the Pro will ship with the AI-powered Kirin 970 chipset but the Pro model will have more storage (6GB of RAM and 128GB ROM). Sadly, there is no microSD slot for storage expansion but both phones have dual SIM card slots.

In the hand, the P20 Pro feels very premium and expensive and it all starts with a large OLED full-view display, that I found to be really sharp and bright. The P20 will have a slightly smaller 5.8” LCD panel with the same resolution.

The P20 is said to be the world’s first to use gradient color and it looks beautiful, especially the color that I have. If you add a shiny metal trim and quality metal buttons, you are looking at a truly premium device.

I was also impressed by the fact that Huawei managed to cram in a huge battery into such a thin profile of the P20. The P20 has a 3400mAh power bank and the P20 Pro has a 4000mAh unit.

Other things you need to know about the design: there is no headset jack, the P20 Pro is IP67-certified for water and dust resistance whereas the P20 has a lower IP53 certification. Finally, the P20 has hi-fi wireless audio system that assures great sound quality via the Bluetooth.

The P20 phones are all about the new powerful cameras. The P20 Pro is more interesting since it has 3 cameras that have combined 68MP. Well, there is a 4th selfie camera with impressive 24MP.

The first is a powerful 40MP RGB camera that is accompanied by the 8MP telephoto lens. The third is the monochrome sensor that also has plenty of megapixels to play with (20MP). Huawei also added a laser receiver to achieve fast auto-focusing speeds and a flash with the color temperature sensor that is used for white balance adjustment.

Here is more information about the cameras: the P20 Pro uses a 223% larger sensor than the competition, it has 5x hybrid zoom, 4 in 1 hybrid focus system, 4D predictive focus, it can achieve ISO levels up to 51200 and it can record 960fps slow-motion at 720p. Finally, the AI-powered Kirin processor makes the best out of this powerful hardware configuration. In other words, AI helps apply the best camera settings to take a nice-looking picture automatically in any light. Well, all of that sound really impressive on paper.

During my brief time with the device, I took quite a few pictures in low-light and first impressions about the image quality are pretty good thanks to no small part to AIS or AI image stabilization. In fact, Huawei claims that their image stabilization is so powerful, so you won’t need a tripod even in extremely low light situations. We’ll see if that’s true in the full review. I was also impressed with the 5x hybrid zoom as the image remained sharp and clear zoomed in. You can zoom in a lot as the object shown in the video was really far away.  The camera app is really fast and responsive, and you can switch between different camera modes easily.  There is also a pro and other modes that I will test in detail very soon.

USER INTERFACE

The EMUI 8.1 is based on Android 8.1, which is said to be a more capable platform for the AI.

As usual, there are plenty of features and customization options Huawei phones have been famous for. My first impressions – the phone is really fast and smooth thanks to a powerful chipset and neural processing unit that helps allocate resources to the specific task. Obviously, it will be interesting to see how the phone performs after installing plenty of apps. I also found the fingerprint scanner to be really fast but I was most impressed with the face unlock feature.

I used it in low light but it still unlocked the phone very fast but keep in mind that you still need to press the power button first in order to use the face unlock feature.  The Huawei P20 will cost about 650 EUR and the P20 will cost about 900 EUR in Europe. 

My first impressions of the P20 Pro are very positive as the phone looks and feels premium, the display is really nice, I’m okay with the notch design, the cameras produce good-looking images even in low-light and the phone is really fast despite many features and customization options in the UI. Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S and the Huawei P20 line-up, the best Chinese smartphones of 2018 yet, have been launched on exactly the same day. Both Mi Mix 2S and P20 are two flagship devices which will be available to purchase at moderate prices. So, they will be among the best phones of 2018 if we consider the quality-price ratio. Given that they are actually the best “affordable” flagships of this year, a comparison between Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S vs Huawei P20 is mandatory to discover which one has the best value for money. So here we go!

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S vs Huawei P20

While Huawei has decided to take inspiration from Apple iPhone X by releasing a P20 with a notch, Xiaomi has decided to stick to the old form factor by making a tri-bezel-less phone with the front camera and the main sensors placed on the lower part of the front panel. Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S has a back cover made of ceramic, while Huawei P20 has a glass back. Even though the P20 has a notch, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S has a higher screen-to-body ratio. But on the other hand, the P20 has a fingerprint reader placed on the front side which will comfortable for many users.

While we can still not tell you anything about the display quality, we can predict that Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S will have better performances thanks to its Snapdragon 845 SoC paired with 6 GB of RAM. There are still no camera samples, but the rear camera setup (we got a dual camera in both cases) is slightly better on the P20, according to DxOMark.

While Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S has obtained a score of 97 points (101 photos – 88 videos) thanks to its fast and accurate autofocus and its color quality, Huawei P20 is at the second place of DxOMark’s ranking with 102 points.Further, Huawei P20 has a 24 MP front camera, while its opponent sports a classic 5 MP f/2.0 snapper. Both the handsets have a battery with a capacity of 3400 mAh, but only Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S supports the Qi wireless charging technology which can be enabled with a dedicated charging dock.

Huawei P20 will be available to purchase in Europe with a price of €649/$805, while Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S will launch in China with a price of €428/$530. It is hard to choose one of these two devices. If price is your primary deciding factor, the Mix 2S is the definite choice here.

To conclude, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S looks more promising in terms of performances and battery, while Huawei P20 should have a better camera department and maybe even a better display and more powerful speakers. Both devices are wonderful choices, but we would prefer Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S.

Huawei finally took the wraps off the Huawei P20 and Huawei P20 Pro today after weeks of leaks and teases. Even though we practically know all there is about both devices, they are nothing short of worth successors to the P10 series of 2017.

Huawei P20

The Huawei P20 has a 5.8” LCD display. Huawei has joined the notch train but its much smaller than that of the iPhone X. There is a circular speaker, sensors and a 24.8MP CMOS sensor within the notch.

The phone is powered by the Kirin 970 paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There is no storage expansion slot.

For smartphones of this year, the focus is camera performance and the Huawei P20 doesn’t disappoint. Yet again, Huawei has partnered with Leica to work on the cameras and combines it with AI to take better pictures.

On the rear is a 20MP f/1.6 monochrome sensor paired with a 12MP f/1.8 RGB sensor. There are tons of new features bundled with the camera. Ultra Snapshot is for taking pictures in just 0.3 seconds even if the phone is locked, 4D predictive focus for taking photos of fast moving objects, 960 fps super slow motion video recording, and there is AI Image stabilization for blur-free low-light shots in night mode.

For portrait images, the P20 uses AI for portrait lighting giving your pictures studio-like lighting effects. The camera can also distinguish between 19 different categories when you want to take photos and then automatically adjusts to the best settings.

Huawei was proud to announce at the event that the P20 scored 107 points on DxOmark for photos and 94 points for videos for an overall score of 102. This places it above the Galaxy S9+, Pixel 2, Mate 10 Pro, and iPhone X.

The Huawei P20 has a 3400mh battery with support for Huawei’s SuperCharge fast charging technology. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo with EMUI 8.1 on top. It doesn’t have a 3.5mm audio jack but has a USB-C port. It also has an IP53 rating and a front mounted fingerprint scanner.

The phone will come in Twilight, Pink Gold, Midnight Blue, Black and Champagne Gold but not all will be available in all countries. It will sell for €649 and goes on sale today.

Huawei P20 Pro

The P20 Pro is the bigger sibling in all ways. From its 6.1” FHD+ OLED display, to its triple rear cameras and massive 4,000mAh battery, it truly is a Pro. It also has a different finish on the back which allows the color of the device to change depending on the angle at which light hits it.

The P20 Pro has the same Kirin 970 processor and 128GB of storage but comes with 6GB of RAM.

The cameras are the main focus. The rear camera is a 40MP RGB sensor and an 8MP telephoto lens which share the same housing. While a 20MP monochrome sensor sits separately.

The 8MP telephoto lens provides 3x optical zoom or 5x hybrid zoom. Huawei uses a technology called Light Fusion for capturing images with the 40MP sensor. What the sensor does is combine captured data from four different pixels into one. The result is sharper, brighter, and more detailed photos.

The P20 Pro also has all the AI features of the P20 mentioned above for better images such as image recognition and portrait mode.

The Huawei P20 Pro currently has the highest DxO Mark with 114 points for photos and 98 points for videos to give an overall score of 109 points.

The P20 Pro upgrades the IP53 rating to IP67. It also doesn’t have an audio jack or a MicroSD card slot. Juts like the P20, there is NFC, Bluetooth 4.2, and dual SIM or single SIM variants.

The Huawei P20 Pro is priced at €899 and will go on sale on April 6. It will be available in Black, Midnight Blue, Twilight, and Pink Gold. Included in the box of the P20 Pro (and P20) is a pair of USB-C earphones, charger, USB-C cable, protective case, and a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter.

Alongside the new phones, Huawei also announced three new accessories. There is the €159 Huawei FreeBuds which we want to believe is its own take on the Apple AirPods. Then there is the Huawei ANC Earphone which is priced at €79 and the Huaei Band 2 Pro priced at €99.

Huawei is gearing up to launch its flagship smartphones — Huawei P20 and P20 Pro on 27th March, i.e. tomorrow at a launch event in Paris, France.

While the smartphones are launching tomorrow, their specifications were leaked weeks ago. The Huawei P20 is said to come with a 5.8-inch LCD display with a 2240 x 1080 resolution. The P20 Pro will have triple-camera configuration at the back. The Leica co-developed sensors are arranged vertically, consisting of 40MP + 8MP dual sensors in the same housing and a third “standalone” 20MP camera.

Both the smartphone models will come with a 24MP selfie camera with “Light Fusion” technology that brightens images using artificial intelligence. There is a 3,400mAh battery supplying power to P20 while the P20 Pro will drive power from a 4,000mAh battery. Both will come with support for Huawei’s SuperCharge fast charge technology (5V/4.5A).

Based on the previous reports, the Huawei P20 will sell for €649, and the P20 Pro and P20 Lite are priced at €899 and €369 respectively. There will also be a Huawei P20 Porsche Edition which will have 256GB of storage and cost more.

While Huawei’s flagship smartphones will be launched tomorrow, the company will struggle to make an impact in the US market. In a major blow to the company’s aspirations to sell its smartphones in the United States, Best Buy said that it will no longer sell Huawei’s phones and other devices.

This development comes after US-based network carrier providers, including AT&T, backed out of a deal to sell Huawei’s smartphones in the country, reportedly due to the US government concerns over Huawei’s links to the Chinese government.

The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro will be officially unveiled on March 27 in Europe. We already know the full specs of the P20 Pro as it was leaked about a week ago. Full specs of the main P20 have also been leaked and they have been confirmed by German retailer, Saturn.

Specifications of the Huawei P20 were posted online by Winfuture.de two days ago. The phone will come with a 5.8-inch LCD display with a 2240 x 1080 resolution. It will also have a notch in the upper part of the display just like the iPhone X but much smaller.

The notch will house the front camera and not an elaborate face unlock setup like that of the iPhone X. Nevertheless, the phone will still have face unlock similar to the ones we have seen on previous Huawei/Honor phones.

The Kirin 970 which powers the Pro model is also on board but with 4GB of RAM instead of 6GB like the P20 Pro. Storage remains 128GB with no option for storage expansion like the Pro version.

The rear cameras are the main distinguishing factors between the P20 and P20 Pro. Not only does the P20 come with just two sensors but they are different too. The main camera is a 12MP RGB sensor paired with a 20MP f/1.6 monochrome sensor. Of course, Huawei partnered with Leica on this too and that is obvious from the LEICA and SUMMILUX branding on the rear.

There is also an infrared RGB sensor and a laser autofocus module integrated between the dual cameras and the LED flash. The 12MP sensor is said to be the only one with OIS. Another feature the phone has is support for super slow motion recording – 960 frames per second at 720p resolution.

The Huawei P20 and Huawei P20 Pro both come with a 24MP selfie camera with “Light Fusion” technology which helps brighten images using AI.

There is dual SIM support (nano only) and a USB-C 3.1 port with DisplayPort support which lets you connect the phone to an external display for use as a PC. It doesn’t have a 3.5mm audio jack but there is a bundled 3.5mm to USB-C adapter. It has support for 31 LTE bands, NFC, and Bluetooth 4.2. It will also run EMUI 8.1 based on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box.

There is a 3,400mAh battery supplying power with support for Huawei’s SuperCharge fast charge technology (5V/4.5A). It weighs 165 grams and measures 149 x 71 x 7.65 mm. It will launch in Europe in Black, Blue, and Pink. The twilight color will be exclusive to the P20 Pro.

The specs are confirmed to be true based on photos from German retailer, Saturn. The pictures show the specs of the P20 series with their included prices. The Huawei P20 will sell for €649, and the P20 Pro and P20 Lite are priced at €899 and €369 respectively. There will also be a Huawei P20 Porsche Edition which will have 256GB of storage and cost more.

In 2016, Huawei signed a partnership with German-based luxury brand, Porsche Design. The first result of their partnership is the Mate 9 Porsche Design. It was followed by the Mate 10 Porsche Design last year. Let’s not forget the Porsche Design Huawei Watch 2 also released in 2017.

For the first time since the beginning of their partnership, Huawei’s P-series will also get a Porsche Design limited edition, and an official teaser has confirmed it.

So far, there have only been rumors of a Huawei P20 Porsche Design but now that Huawei has confirmed it, we now know there are four members in the P20-series.

The above image which surfaced a few weeks ago shows a Huawei phone with triple rear cameras and is said to be the Huawei P20 Porsche Design Limited Edition. The cameras are arranged horizontally instead of vertically like on the P20 Pro.

There is no confirmation that it is indeed the Porsche Design edition. Even though there is usually a difference in design between the Porsche Design version and the Pro version, it is mostly limited to color, branding, UI, and storage; and not a pronounced difference like the camera arrangement.

The Huawei P20 Porsche Design will most definitely come with 256GB of storage, customized accessories, and a VIP card. It may also be available in only one color – black, and definitely have a significantly higher price tag than its siblings.

It is exactly a week to the launch of the Huawei P20 series and there is little or nothing left that we do not already know.  Earlier today, the camera specifications for the P20 Pro was revealed. It has also now appeared on Geekbench.

The Huawei P20 Pro was benchmarked yesterday as the Huawei CLT-L29 where CLT is short for Charlotte, its codename. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo and has 6GB of RAM. An unnamed 1.84GHz octa-core processor powers it but we already know it is the Kirin 970.

The phone scores 1921 points in the single core test and 6729 points in the multi-core test. These scores are not far off from those of the Mate 10 Pro which uses the same Kirin 970 processor.

Do you remember the Nokia Lumia 1020? It was famous for having a 41MP rear camera. The Huawei P20 Pro has a 40MP rear sensor which is impressive too but the Lumia 1020 is still the champ. What if we added another 8MP camera to the P20 Pro? Cool, right? Oh! Here’s another 20MP camera. Do we have your attention now?

The above is the camera configuration for the Huawei P20 Pro according to reports from Winfuture.de. The camera specs of the P20 Pro have remained a mystery until now. And with this leak, one can say Huawei is setting multiple records in the mobile industry.

So how do the cameras work? The Leica co-developed sensors are arranged in this fashion – 40MP + 8MP dual sensors in the same housing and a third “standalone” 20MP camera.

Huawei says the phone can achieve up to 5x magnification via what it calls Hybrid Zoom. Actually, the main 40MP camera has just 3x zoom but when combined with the additional details captured by the secondary 8MP telephoto lens, the  phone achieves 5x zoom. We should get a better explanation when the phone launches.

What about the 20MP sensor standing alone? It is reported that it is a monochrome camera which is usually the second camera in Huawei’s older flagship dual camera phones.

The apertures for the three sensors are said to be between f/1.6 and f/2.4. It is also reported that Huawei is announcing a new camera feature called Light Fusion. There is no explanation for how Light Fusion works but we presume it has something to do with better low-light photography. There is also an IR-RGB sensor and a laser-focus module on the back.

The Huawei P20 Pro will also have a 24MP selfie camera like the Huawei P20. The front camera will also have the Light Fusion feature.

The P20 Pro will come with a 6.1” OLED display with a 2240 x 1080 resolution and a 19:9 aspect ratio. It has a notch at the top which is home to the sensor, earpiece, and the front camera. Although the screen stretches to the top of the phone, the bottom part has a bezel which is home to a fingerprint scanner.

The Huawei P20 Pro will be powered by the Kirin 970 chip which has a NPU (Neural Processing Unit) for handling AI tasks. In Europe, the phone will be available with 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage. Other markets are said to get a 256GB version too.

The phone has a 4,000mAh battery with support for Huawei’s SuperCharge fast charging technology. There is also gigabit WIFI, Bluetooth 4.2 (not 5.0), NFC, and a total of 28 supported LTE bands, which means it should work in any part of the world.

The Huawei P20 Pro has a USB-C 3.1 port but skips the audio jack, and an IP67 rating. It is said to be quite thin at 7.65mm and weighs 174g. However, it doesn’t have wireless charging even though it has a glass back.

The Huawei P20 Pro will cost €899 when it launches on March 27.

The biggest upgrade on Samsung’s new flagships are the cameras. Judging from Huawei’s adverts and teasers for its upcoming P20 series, the cameras are also the focus. A new leak has revealed that the Huawei P20 or Huawei P20 Pro will have slow motion recording.

A video shared on Twitter yesterday by @Ricciolo1 shows a slow motion advert for the Huawei P20. The particular device wasn’t specified since Huawei has been releasing teaser ads for the P20 series as a whole. But we know the P20 Lite is ruled out as it is already on sale and a review video posted online doesn’t mention the feature.

That leaves us with just the P20 and P20 Pro. But it wouldn’t be a wild guess if we go with the latter. All the video ads have teased one major feature which is triple rear cameras and we know only the Huawei P20 Pro has triple cameras. Nevertheless, slow motion recording isn’t a feature exclusive to phones with triple cameras, so it won’t be unusual if the regular P20 gets it too.

There is no info as to the frame rate the phone can shoot in during slow motion neither is there a mention of the resolution. If we are lucky, we might find out before the 27th of March which is when Huawei officially launches the P20 series.

The Huawei P20 Lite is already on sale or can be pre-ordered in some parts of Europe for between for between €326 and €423 even though the launch is still next week. Today, the price and configuration of its other siblings – the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro have been revealed.

In a tweet by Roland Quandt, the Huawei P20 which will have a 5.8” screen will launch in Europe with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for €679. The Huawei P20 Pro which has a bigger 6.1” display will also launch in Europe with 128GB of storage but 6GB of RAM with a price tag of €899.

He adds that those are the only two variants planned for Europe but other regions will get more. For example, China will likely get more storage variants of the P20 according to an already deleted TENAA listing that mentions a 4GB + 256GB model, 6GB RAM + 64GB version, and a 6GB RAM + 256GB variant in addition to the two mentioned above.

Roland Quandt also includes an official picture that shows both phones side by side. As you can see, both the Huawei P20 and Huawei P20 Pro have front-mounted fingerprint scanners. But they will differ in other ways like the display type, cameras, and battery capacity.

The P series smartphones from Huawei are known for carrying stellar camera features. The Huawei P10 that was launched in 2016 became one of the first smartphones to arrive with dual rear cameras. Huawei will be launching the P20 and P20 Pro flagship phones on March 27. Recent reports have revealed that the P20 will be arriving with dual rear cameras whereas the P20 Pro will be an advanced device featuring three rear cameras. CNET has obtained some new photos that seems to have been snapped using the Huawei P20 smartphone. Here are the images:

Previous leaks have revealed that the EML-AL00 is the model number of the upcoming Huawei P20 phone. Here EML stands for Emily, the codename of P20. The P20 Pro is codenamed as Charlotte while the mid-range P20 Lite has a codename of P20 Lite. Hence, it is quite evident that these camera samples belong to P20.

The Exif details of one of the photos show that the EML-AL00 handset was used to capture the photo that was taken on Feb. 23. The images appear as it was taken using a professional camera. However, the exact configuration of the Huawei P20’s dual rear cameras are not known. It is expected to arrive with 16-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.6 aperture and f/2.4 aperture lenses. It has been also revealed through the P20 teasers that the smartphone will be able to capture impressive shots in dim-light conditions.

As far as other specs are concerned, the P20 is expected to arrive with an IPS LCD display that will support FHD+ resolution. It will be delivering an aspect ratio of 19:9 because of the notch present on the topside of the display. The Kirin 970 chipset is rumored to power the phone. It may come in 4 GB / 6 GB RAM variants and 64 GB and 128 GB storage models. It may not feature a microSD card.

The P20 is pegged to arrive with a selfie camera of 24-megapixel. The handset will be running on Android 8.1 Oreo skinned with the latest EMUI 8.1. It will be fueled by a 3,320mAh battery. It may arrive with a pricing of 679 euros. The metal-bodied P20 may come in colors like Black, Blue and Pink-Gold.

Huawei is not supposed to take the wraps off the P20 series until March 27 but one of the three phones is already on sale. If you live in Italy, you can walk into a Mediaworld or Euronics store and purchase the Huawei P20 Lite. No jokes!

According to an Italian blog HDBLOG.it, the Huawei P20 Lite is available for purchase for €369 (~$455). That is pricey based on the specs but similar to what it is going for in Poland (1,599 Zloty/~$468). Though the Polish store will include a free Huawei Smart Scale as a gift when it starts shipping on March 26. Another Italian store Monclick.it has the Huawei P20 Lite listed for much less at €327.50 and will begin shipping tomorrow.

The Huawei P20 Lite comes in a white box. It has a 5.84” 2280 x 1080 display with 2.5D glass on top. There is 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and a Kirin 659 processor under the hood.

Rear cameras are 16MP + 2MP dual sensors arranged vertically while a 16MP sits within the notch in front. It runs EMUI 8.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo, has Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, a USB-C port and a 3000mAh battery. It also has a hybrid dual SIM slot (nano only). The Huawei P20 Lite comes with a charger, a pair of wired in-ear earphones, and a USB-C cable.

The P20 Lite isn’t the only phone already listed in Italy, the flagship Huawei P20 is also listed on eprice.it. The store lists the phone as having a 5.8” display, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, an octa-ocre processor, and running Android 8.0.

It has the Blue Huawei P20 listed for €673.99 but isn’t in stock. The black Huawei P20 is in stock for €765 and will ship on March 22.

Multiple leaks have revealed the specs, features and images of the upcoming Huawei P20 series. Yesterday, a Huawei handset labelled as Huawei EML-L29 had appeared on Geekbench. EML refers EMILY, the codename of Huawei P20. Hence, it is speculated that it could be the first appearance of the Huawei P20 smartphone on the benchmarking site.

Compared to Huawei P20 Pro, the P20 will be arriving as a lighter device. Some of the key differences could be that the P20 Pro would be coming with triple rear cameras, OLED display and larger battery of 4,000mAh capacity, whereas the Huawei P20 could be a less powerful device featuring dual rear cameras, LCD display and 3,320mAh battery.

The Geekbench listing of the alleged P20 smartphone suggests that it may arrive with lesser RAM than the P20 Pro model. This seems possible since the Mate 10 came with 4 GB of RAM whereas the advanced Mate 10 Pro was available 4 GB and 6 GB RAM options.

On Geekbench, the Huawei P20 has been spotted with 4 GB of RAM. The device is powered by an octa-core processor that clocks at 1.8 GHz. It could be the Kirin 970 chipset that comes with a dedicated NPU unit. It is running on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo OS. In single-core and multi-core tests on the benchmarking site, the Huawei P20 has respectively scored 1878 and 6699.

Like the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro, the Huawei P20 may arrive only in 4 GB RAM whereas the P20 Pro may come in 4 GB and 6 GB RAM models. The leaked renders of the P20 have revealed that it will be coming with an FHD+ LCD display that will be offering an aspect ratio of 19:9. The exact size of the display is not known. It is expected to arrive in color options like Black, Blue and Pink-Gold. Well-known tipster Roland Quandt had recently revealed that it would be arriving in Europe with a price tag of 679 euros (~$840) whereas the advanced P20 Pro may cost 899 euros (~$1,115). The official unveiling of the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro is scheduled to happen on March 27.

The launch of the Huawei P20 series is still two weeks away but the P20 Lite is already listed on a Polish retail site complete with specs, renders and price.

Design

True to the leaks, the Huawei P20 Lite does have a notch in its display. Huawei is calling it FullView 2.0 and it gives the phone a 19:9 aspect ratio. Housed within the notch is a sensor, earpiece and camera.

There is glass on the front and back with the latter having a mirror like finish. It is also curved to allow for better handling.

Huawei P20 Lite Specs

The Huawei P20 Lite has a 5.8” 2280 x 1080 FullView 2.0 display. It is powered by the Kirin 659 with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Users can add up to an extra 256GB of storage via a MicroSD card slot.

On the back, the Huawei P20 Lite has a 16MP sensor paired with a 2MP for capturing depth of field details for bokeh images. Huawei has included a new technology called Fusion Pixel which is said to provide greater light absorption for clearer and more accurate photos.

A 16MP camera sits within the notch for portrait selfies. It also has face unlock and can detect up to 96 facial features. If face unlock isn’t your style, you can use the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner to keep your device secure.

The phone also comes with NFC for mobile payments, Bluetooth 4.2, a microUSB port, hybrid dual SIM slot (nano) and a 3.5mm audio jack. It also has a FM radio and runs EMUI 8 based on Android 8.0

The Huawei P20 Lite packs a 3000mAh battery with support for 18W fast charge. It weighs 145g and measures 148.6 x 71.2 x 7.4 mm.
