It appears that the brands will try to make foldable phones at different price points in the coming years. The Huawei Pocket S flip phone, which debuted in November 2022, has been one of the most affordable foldable phones. A new leak, courtesy of tipster Revegnus, reveals that the brand is now working on an entry-level foldable phone. The leaker has shared the expected price and launch timeframe of the said device.

According to the tipster, Huawei is working on a flip phone with entry-level specifications. The device is most likely to arrive on the market as a P Pocket-branded phone.

He mentioned that the device is expected to be officially unveiled in the first half of 2024. In terms of pricing, it is likely to be priced at $735 or lower, according to the leaker. It’s not clear whether the source is referring to the Chinese market release or a global launch of the device. It is likely that the device may come in multiple shades, like the Huawei Pocket S.

The tipster also mentioned that Samsung appears to be developing a similar device, although no further details were provided. This same source previously stated in August that the South Korean tech company is conducting tests on a new device named the “Galaxy Z FE.”

It has been one and a half years since Huawei unveiled its first-ever clamshell foldable smartphone — Huawei P50 Pocket. However, the company is yet to release its successor. Instead, we got a toned-down version of this handset called Huawei Pocket S last year.

Now, as per a reliable tipster, the successor to Huawei’f first clamshell foldable will launch later this year. He even revealed some key features of this product. Let’s have a look at them.

Huawei P50 Pocket

According to Digitial Chat Station, the next-gen clamshell foldable from Huawei will be released in the second half of 2023. It will be announced alongside the Huawei Mate 60 series.

Further, the leaker says that the foldable inner display on this phone will have support for high-frequency PWM dimming. Thus, the screen will be comfortable to look at in low-light conditions.

The device will sport a thin and light design. In keeping up with the competition, it will sport a larger cover display but the exact size is not known.

The smartphone is said to be fueled by a large 4,520mAh battery, which is split into two (1250mAh and 3170mAh). Last but not least, it will carry support for 66W fast wired charging.

The tipster did not say anything about the handset’s cameras. Perhaps, he will in the coming weeks.

Unfortunately, just like all Huawei devices, this one too will lack support for 5G and Google services. Hence, it will be likely available in a limited fashion outside mainland China.

Huawei Pocket S is all set to go official today in China. Rumors have claimed that the Pocket S will be a “Lite” version of the Snapdragon 888 4G-powered Huawei P50 Pocket, which was announced in December last year. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Motorola Razr 22 flip phones available in the Chinese market are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 8+ Gen 1 chipsets, respectively. The OPPO Find N Flip, which is expected to launch in December this year, will feature the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip. While other brands have opted to launch clamshell phones with flagship specs, Huawei has decided to release the Pocket S as a non-flagship device.

According to a Weibo post by a Chinese tipster (via. TechGoing), the Huawei Pocket S will arrive with a 6.9-inch foldable OLED panel with a centrally positioned punch-hole. The screen will offer a resolution of 2790 x 1188 pixels, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 10-bit colors. Shown below are some live images of the Pocket S shared by tipster WHYLAB.

On the front, it will feature a 10.7-megapixel front camera. There are two round-shaped modules on the backside of the device. The first one houses a 40-megapixel (main) + 13-megapixel (ultra-wide) dual-camera setup with LED flash, and the second one has a 1.04-inch cover display with 340 x 340 pixels resolution.

The Snapdragon 778G 4G chipset and a 4,000mAh battery with support for 40W charging will be present under the hood of the Huawei Pocket S. It will come in two configurations: 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage. For security, it will feature a side-facing fingerprint scanner. The device will run on HarmonyOS 3. The Huawei Pocket S clamshell phone is all set to go official on Nov. 2 in China. Ahead of the launch, the device is now listed for pre-order on JD, Suning, and other Chinese retailer sites. It will be the second clamshell phone with a foldable screen from the brand after the Huawei P50 Pocket, which was announced in December 2021.

It is speculated that the major difference between the original and upcoming Pocket flip phone is the chipset. While the P50 Pocket came equipped with the Snapdragon 888 4G chipset, the Pocket S is said to arrive with the Snapdragon 778G 4G chipset onboard.

Reports have claimed that the Pocket S will be equipped with a foldable OLED display that offers a 120Hz refresh rate and will run on the HarmonyOS 3. The device is likely to have Huawei’s own XMAGE image processing technology, which will assist in capturing better shots.
