Huawei did not launch any new products at IFA 2020 like its sub-brand Honor. However, the company does have a few products up in its sleeve waiting to go official for global markets. One of them, HUAWEI Y9a, has now been announced quietly as a tweaked version of HUAWEI Enjoy 20 Plus that was launched in China recently.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time we are hearing about this phone as its name was already mentioned in two separate lists of upcoming Huawei devices and even its promotional poster leaked last week.

HUAWEI Y9a Specifications

The newly announced HUAWEI Y9a sports a 6.63-inch FHD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) IPS LCD panel on the front with a 92% screen-to-body ratio lacking any notch or punch-hole. That’s because the phone’s 16MP selfie camera sits in a pop-up module.

Unlike the Enjoy 20 Plus which is a 5G smartphone powered by MediaTek Dimensity 720, this one comes with MediaTek G80 SoC paired with 6GB/8GB LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB UFS 2.1 storage based on regions it is sold. If needed, the storage can be further expanded via Huawei’s proprietary NM SD card.

The back of the device features the circular design from HUAWEI Mate30 Pro for the camera arrangement but the sensors are different. Because it comes equipped with a 64MP primary snapper paired with an 8MP 120° ultra-wide unit, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro shooter. On the other hand, the Enjoy 20 Plus features a 48MP + 8MP (ultra-wide) + 2MP (macro) triple camera setup.

The phone runs EMUI 10.1 based on Android 10 with HMS (Huawei Mobile Services). It includes all the necessary sensors such as gyroscope, compass, gravity sensor, ambient light sensor, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

As for connectivity and ports, it supports 4G LTE, dual-band WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, and USB Type-C. Further, the device will be backed by a 4,200mAh battery with support for 40W fast charging in the Middle East, Africa, and some countries in Middle Asia. Whereas, in other regions, it will feature a 4,200mAh battery and will only support 22.5W fast charging.

Talking about size and weight, the HUAWEI Y9a measures 163.5 x 76.5 x 8.95mm in dimensions and weighs 197g. Last but not least, It will be available in three colors namely Space Silver, Sakura Pink, and Midnight Bllack.

Huawei is expected to launch the Huawei Enjoy 20 Plus smartphone in China in early September. The handset is expected to arrive in different markets with different names such as Huawei Mate 40 Lite, Huawei Y9a, and Huawei P Smart Pro 2021. The readers of GSMArena in Iraqi Kurdistan have shared leaked posters of Huawei Y9a. The images have revealed the design and color variants of the smartphone. The leak suggests that the Huawei Y9a may differ in some respects from the Huawei Enjoy 20 Plus phone.

The leaked posters show that the Huawei Y9a has a notch-less screen and its rear has a circular camera housing that houses four cameras. An LED flash can be seen on the left side of the camera module. The other poster shows that the phone has a 64-megapixel quad camera setup. Leaked information surrounding the Enjoy 20 Plus has revealed that its circular camera setup has a 48-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 2-megapixel triple camera setup. According to GSMArena, the Huawei Y9a will be arriving with a 64-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 2-megapixel + 2-megapixel quad-camera system.

The Huawei Y9a will come with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of native storage. It will arrive with support for 40W Huawei SuperCharge fast charging technology. However, the size of the phone’s battery is not mentioned. The handset can be seen in two gradient color options. The support for AppGallery indicates that the phone is unlikely to arrive with support for Google’s apps and services.

The other specs of the Huawei Y9a are currently under wraps. The Enjoy 20 Plus is a 5G phone and is expected to arrive with Dimensity 720 5G chipset. It is unclear which chipset powers the Huawei Y9a and there is on whether it carries support for 5G connectivity.

Last week, the names and codenames of certain upcoming Huawei devices leaked. Now, a new set of both Huawei as well as Honor products heading to Europe leak. But this time around, instead of codenames, we get the model numbers.

The last tip was from Evan Blass (@evleaks) and one of the devices in that list, HUAWEI Watch Fit even leaked extensively earlier this week with renders, specifications, and price.

Whereas, today’s new leak comes from @RODENT950,  another known leakster on Twitter. His list includes nine smartphones and three laptop models. Out of the total twelve products, six each are Huawei and Honor branded respectively. Also, unlike the previous leak, this one clearly says that these devices are heading to Europe.

Having said that, here’s the entire list of new Huawei and Honor devices coming to Europe. Do note that the ones without names are denoted by “xxx”.

Going by the model numbers of the handsets in the Huawei tabular column, the Mate40 Lite, P Smart Pro 2021, and Y9a are basically the same phones with different branding. On the other hand, P Smart 2021 and Y7a should be identical. However, all the products in the Honor tabular column are unique.

That said, it is not sure when these smartphones and laptops will launch in Europe as the tipster merely mentions “soon”.

The upcoming Mate40 series has been confirmed to be the last Huawei smartphone to feature HiSilicon Kirin chipset for the time being. But the company is still working on a number of products including three smartphones, a foldable, a TWS, and a smartwatch.

The information regarding the existence of these products comes from popular leakster Evan Blass aka @eveleaks on Twitter. Unfortunately, he did not reveal anything but the codenames and they are as listed below.

That’s not all, Ross Young, the founder and lead research of DSSC and DisplaySearch revealed further details about the Mate X2 in a reply to Evan’s tweet.

According to him, the upcoming Huawei foldable smartphone will feature an inward folding display just like Samsung Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Fold 2. Also, he mentioned that the Chinese telecom giant will be sourcing panels from Samsung Display and BOE, however, it will lack UTG (Ultra Thin Glass), which is kind of a bummer.

Anyway, if this smartphone ever releases, then it will be the first non-Samsung foldable to come with Samsung Display panel.
