Xiaomi is reportedly preparing to launch the next version of its Android-based operating system, expected to be named either HyperOS 3 or HyperOS 26. The new OS is likely to debut in the coming months alongside its next-generation flagship phones. Prior to this, the company rolled out a HyperOS 2 update in China, introducing new photo editing features, AI tools, and performance improvements.

The Photos app now supports AI Matting 2.0, which lets users cut out subjects more accurately and replace backgrounds with dynamic effects like time, location, or weather-based scenes. Group photos can be edited with smart beauty filters. The app also adds support for animated stickers, layout collages, and custom templates.

AI photo sorting has been added. Photos are now grouped by people, time, or location. Users can search with phrases like “May trip” or “wedding photos,” and the system pulls up relevant images. The new Memory Album feature auto-creates photo stories using this data.

Photo editing tools have also improved. Users can now fine-tune colors, apply filters, and adjust parameters more quickly. The crop function is also getting a fix in the next patch.

Performance issues are being addressed. The status bar and gesture guide now appear without delay when returning to the home screen from some apps. UI transitions are smoother.

Photos and videos backed up to Xiaomi Cloud now retain their original quality. The new layout allows users to view and manage cloud-stored files in the same gallery view. Users can also check backup status and data usage in real time.

The new HyperOS 2 update also upgrades file browsing and multi-device use. Photos can be searched and sent between devices faster. Shared albums now sync between Xiaomi phones, tablets, and TVs.

A new Smart Service dashboard has been added. It shows photo storage stats, duplicate files, and phone usage patterns. It also gives suggestions to free up space.

The update is being released gradually to supported models in China. It is currently unclear when these new features will arrive on devices outside of China.

HyperOS 2 is not a minor upgrade; it’s actually a major one with plenty of improvements and new features. Xiaomi did a great job by significantly reducing the app delays and improving multitasking capabilities. There are also an AI-powered lock screen, a revamped desktop layout, AI magic painting, and 3D real-time weather system, to name a few.

Xiaomi has already released the stable HyperOS 2 update to over a dozen smartphones, and the list keeps getting bigger and bigger as the days go by. The latest one to get the HyperOS 2 treat is none other than the Poco X6 Pro. The global rollout starts with the EEA region, but it won’t be long before it reaches different parts of the world.

The HyperOS 2 update for the Poco X6 Pro is tagged with firmware version 2.0.2.0.VNLEUXM. It’s based on Android 15. Hence, in addition to HyperOS 2 features, you’ll get more new features directly from the development team at Google.

It’s a major update that weighs around 5.7GB in size. Hence, it’s recommended that you download it over a stable Wi-Fi connection. And before you hit the install button, ensure that the battery is at least 40% charged to avoid update failure.

To upgrade your Poco X6 Pro to the latest software, open the Settings app and go to the software update section. From there, you can check for a new update and download it. If you don’t see an update there, manually download the update package using third-party websites/apps such as Hyperosupdates.com or the MemeOS Enhancer app and flash the package manually.

Check out the HyperOS 2 global roadmap to find out when the update will be available for your other Xiaomi, Redmi, or Poco devices.

HyperOS 2 is a major upgrade for Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco devices. It brings important under-the-hood changes that significantly reduce app delays and improve multitasking capabilities. Plenty of new features are also included, such as an AI-powered lock screen, a 3D real-time weather system, a revamped desktop layout, and AI magic painting. The latest upgrade also heavily focuses on improving seamless connectivity with other Xiaomi devices.

So, the new HyperOS 2 update is exciting and has plenty of new features and improvements to explore. However, the update is not rolled out in one go. It’s distributed in batches, and hence, most users have to wait for weeks or months. As of writing this post, these Xiaomi devices have started getting the HyperOS 2 update:

Xiaomi 15

Xiaomi 15 Pro

Xiaomi 14

Xiaomi 14 Pro

Xiaomi 14 Ultra

Xiaomi 14T

Xiaomi 14T Pro

Xiaomi 13

Xiaomi 13 Pro

Xiaomi 13 Ultra

Xiaomi 13T

Xiaomi Pad 7

Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro

Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4

Xiaomi Mix Fold 4

Redmi Note 13 4G

Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G

Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G

Redmi Note 12

Redmi K80

Redmi K80 Pro

Redmi K70

Redmi K70 Pro

Redmi K70 Ultra

Redmi K70E

Redmi K60 Ultra

Redmi Pad Pro 5G

Redmi 13

Redmi 13C

Redmi 12 4G

Redmi 12 5G

Poco M6

Poco M6 Pro 5G

Poco C65

These Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco devices are getting the stable HyperOS 2 update, at least in a single region. As you may know, it can take a few days to weeks before the update is available to all regions. So, even if your device is on the list but you don’t see the HyperOS 2 update on your device, wait for it to hit your device. Meanwhile, regularly check for new updates via the Settings app.

In case you’re wondering when your Xiaomi phone will get the HyperOS 2 update, check out the official rollout timeline here.

What’s new in HyperOS 2?

HyperOS 2 introduces three core technological innovations — HyperCore, HyperConnect, and HyperAI — to enhance the user experience, integration among Xiaomi devices, and AI capabilities. Various optimizations have been made to reduce the app delays on smartphones by up to 55% and frame rate drops are now up to 13% improved. Tablets, TVs, and smartwatches are also receiving performance enhancements.

The upgrade brings a new “movie-like” lock screen that uses AI to create personalized wallpapers. There’s a 3D real-time weather system to simulate real atmospheric conditions that’s visually appealing. You’ll also get a new home screen layout with visual upgrades and customizable content, enhancing widget selection.

The animations are much smoother when interacting with notifications or navigating the interface. There are many AI-powered features as well, such as AI Magic Painting for transforming simple drawings into artwork, AI Voice Recognition for real-time text conversation and automatic summarization, and AI Translation for meetings, calls, and videos. There are also AI Writing tools such as text generation, error correction, polishing, and summarization, as well as AI Anti-Fruad for identifying fraudulent calls or face-swapping videos.

HyperOS 2 also lets you use your phone from your tablet in a windowed interface, with the ability to drag phone apps onto the tablet or add them as native apps.

HyperOS 2 introduces several new features, including a redesigned interface with dynamic wallpapers, a customizable desktop layout, and a 3D weather system.
At its core, HyperOS 2 is powered by HyperCore, Xiaomi’s in-house kernel that aims to optimize performance, reduce CPU idle time, and enhance graphics. HyperConnect, another feature, enables smooth data and app transfer between Xiaomi devices and allows file sharing with Apple products in China.

Privacy and security are a key focus in HyperOS 2, with features like end-to-end encryption, a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) for secure data handling, and better data control through the Xiao Ai assistant. There are many other updates in this new operating system, which you can explore by following this link.

The device will feature 90W wired fast charging, though it may lack wireless charging. While the exact model is unclear, it is speculated to be part of Xiaomi’s Redmi lineup, possibly the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro or Redmi K90.

HyperOS 2 also debuts a redesigned desktop with customizable widgets, dynamic animations, and a 3D weather system. To ensure privacy, it incorporates end-to-end encryption, a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) for secure data handling, and enhanced data control via the Xiao Ai assistant, providing users with transparency and control over their digital footprint.
Xiaomi’s new operating system, HyperOS 2, is a significant leap forward in building an AI-powered ecosystem. Debuted alongside the Xiaomi 15 series, HyperOS 2 redefines device connectivity and user experience with three core technologies: HyperCore, HyperConnect, and HyperAI. Let’s delve into the top five standout features that make HyperOS 2 a game-changer in the industry.

HyperCore

At the heart of HyperOS 2 is HyperCore, a new in-house kernel that Xiaomi designed to push performance limits. With over 25,000 optimization scenarios, HyperCore reduces CPU idle time by 19%, lowers memory latency, and enhances graphics. HyperCore’s microarchitecture scheduler breaks down task cycles directly at the chip level, ensuring smoother operation and faster response times.

Xiaomi has further introduced dynamic memory and Storage 2.0, reducing app launch delays by up to 54.9% on smartphones and 15% on tablets. For gamers, HyperCore reduces power consumption and frame drops by over 13%, creating a fluid gaming experience.

These optimizations translate to an ultra-smooth user experience across devices, with faster load times, minimized lags, and improved stability even in resource-intensive applications.

HyperConnect

HyperOS 2 takes cross-device connectivity to the next level with HyperConnect, enabling real-time interactions and streamlined data transfer across the Xiaomi ecosystem.

It features HomeScreen+, allowing users to transfer apps and data between Xiaomi phones and tablets effortlessly, even enabling them to run as native apps on tablets. It also sports dual-camera streaming, letting Xiaomi tablets and phones share their cameras simultaneously, perfect for activities like vlogging, conferencing, or multi-angle video recording.

For users in China, it includes Apple device compatibility via Xiaomi Interconnectivity Services, enabling seamless sharing of files, photos, and documents like Keynote and Pages between Apple and Xiaomi devices. This cross-platform connectivity is being adopted by other OEMs too, as seen with Oppo’s recent addition of an AirDrop-like function in ColorOS 15.

HyperAI

HyperAI introduces some of the most transformative and user-focused AI tools Xiaomi has ever launched. It features AI-powered lock screens that adapt to user preferences, displaying movie-poster-style visuals directly on the home screen.

It also sports AI Anti-Fraud protection, capable of identifying scam calls and detecting face-swapped videos, prioritizing user security. Additionally, HyperAI enhances the user experience with real-time AI-generated content (AIGC), animating static wallpapers to bring cityscapes and nature scenes to life for a cinematic lock screen effect.

HyperAI integrates with Mi Canvas on tablets, offering an “AI Art” function that lets users convert sketches into vibrant, colorful paintings. It also includes global AI writing tools for quick text generation, summarization, and error correction, simplifying content creation, note-taking, and email writing.

For added productivity, it comes with AI sound recognition, enabling voice-to-text transcription that creates accurate summaries from calls, meetings, and recordings while distinguishing between speakers in team settings. For video calls, HyperOS 2 incorporates gesture-based effects, adding a personalized touch and making conversations more interactive. It also includes global AI translation for real-time interpretation during meetings and calls, making cross-language communication effortless.

Enhanced Visual Experience

HyperOS 2 comes with a redesigned desktop featuring customizable widgets, smooth transitions, and an upgraded layout for a visually engaging experience. It sports dynamic effects with fluid animations, enhancing navigation through notifications and the control center. Additionally, it features a 3D weather system that mirrors real atmospheric conditions, making daily updates more immersive and interactive.

Enhanced Security Framework

In an era where data privacy is paramount, Xiaomi has embedded robust security measures within HyperOS 2. The system’s end-to-end encryption safeguards data on both cloud and endpoint devices, ensuring confidential information remains protected. Furthermore, HyperOS 2 implements Xiaomi’s Trusted Execution Environment (TEE), which provides hardware-level encryption for critical operations. This not only ensures safe data handling but also enhances protection against potential cyber threats.

Additionally, HyperOS 2 gives users control over their personal information. With the Xiao Ai personal assistant, users can securely store and manage data, including viewing or deleting memory data. This added control and transparency empower users to manage their digital footprint within Xiaomi’s ecosystem, fostering a sense of security and trust.

Conclusion

HyperOS 2 is a transformative upgrade that strengthens Xiaomi’s ecosystem, allowing its devices to compete closely with major players like Apple and Samsung. With improvements in performance, connectivity, AI personalization, visuals, and security, HyperOS 2 supports Xiaomi’s goal of building a smarter, more connected experience for users.

As HyperOS 2 rolls out across Xiaomi’s product lineup, users can look forward to a refined and intelligent experience that enhances daily interactions with their devices.

Earlier today, Xiaomi held a launch event unveiling its latest flagship line of smartphones called the Xiaomi 15 series, alongside the Pad 7 series tablets and other devices. The brand has also debuted its latest Android 15-based operating system called HyperOS 2, designed to make everyday tasks easier by creating a smooth link between smartphones, TVs, wearables, cars, and home devices. We have provided the key highlights of this new operating system below.

Boosting Performance and Graphics

The backbone of HyperOS 2 is Xiaomi HyperCore, a new system platform built from the ground up. Xiaomi has made changes to improve how the system handles tasks, manages memory, and processes inputs, all with the goal of making devices run faster and more efficiently.

On the graphics side, Xiaomi has redesigned how images are processed. It now uses a method called heterogeneous computing, which splits tasks across different types of processors. This will give users smoother visuals, especially when playing games or watching videos.

Stronger and Seamless Connections

Xiaomi has also worked on improving the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 5G connections on its devices, ensuring users stay connected without sudden drops, whether they’re on a call, gaming, or streaming content.

One standout feature is Xiaomi HyperConnect, which allows different Xiaomi devices to sync easily with one another. Users will be able to switch between their phone, TV, or smartwatch without interruption. File transfers are now 33% faster, while latency issues—like delays in signal transmission—have been reduced by 54%.

AI Features to Simplify Daily Life

HyperOS 2 AI Dynamic Wallpaper

HyperOS 2 is packed with new AI-powered tools that aim to make using devices more personal and interactive. The dynamic wallpapers change throughout the day based on your behavior, and movie-like lock screens give your phone a more lively look. TVs are also getting smart screensavers that update based on your preferences.

HyperOS 2 Animations and features

HyperOS 2 has smooth dynamic animations, as well as a 3D real-time dynamic weather system built with a real atmospheric model to provide users with a more immersive experience.

A new personal assistant, Super XiaoAi, helps users with small but frequent tasks. It can autofill personal information, remind users of appointments, and even complete certain chores based on your routines. If you need to find specific files or photos, Super Xiaoai can search across all your devices with just a voice command.

In addition, AI Magic Painting allows users to adjust photos using different styles or make small edits by referencing character poses. Other AI tools make productivity easier: real-time voice-to-text transcription, automatic translations during meetings or video calls, and gesture-based effects that enhance video calls.

To keep users safe, the system includes AI fraud detection to identify scam calls or altered videos before they can cause harm.

Stronger Security

Xiaomi has added chip-based security systems to make sure devices are protected at both the hardware and software levels. The company promises strict privacy controls, with encryption for both cloud and on-device data, ensuring that users’ information stays safe.

Cross-Ecosystem Device Integration

To make switching between devices as smooth as possible, HyperOS 2 includes the updated Wonderful Desktop 2.0 allows users to run apps across multiple devices. For example, users can start a task on their phone and finish it on their TV or computer without needing to reinstall the app.

Wonderful Desktop 2.0 in action

The system is also compatible with Apple devices, meaning iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks can connect easily to Xiaomi products. Installing Xiaomi Internet Service on Apple devices makes it simple to transfer files, open documents, or access Xiaomi’s Mi Desktop on a Mac.

Smart wearables are getting an upgrade too, with gesture controls that let users activate connected home devices with a snap of their fingers. This feature makes controlling smart devices more natural and easy.

Expanded Entertainment and Streaming Options

HyperOS 2.0 offers new live-streaming capabilities. Cross-Device Camera 2.0 allows users to stream video from two devices simultaneously, suitable for activities like gaming, exercise, or teaching online. TV users can now use picture-in-picture mode, which allows them to watch content while using other apps or even while working out.

Xiaomi’s latest devices come pre-loaded with this operating system, and the brand plans to roll out the update to older devices starting November 2024.

Huawei is pushing the frontier in health technology in wearables. Earlier this month, a tip surfaced online hinting that the brand’s new blood pressure monitoring tech on wearables would launch in September.
