But another field where the company excels is the telecommunications/router market; as a report from Omdia (formerly <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ihs-markit/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">IHS Markit</a>, known analytics and research institute) has revealed that its routers are leading the global carrier market for 2019.</p>
<p>According to the Omdia report, Huawei has maintained its dominance in the router market since 2018. This marks the second year in a row that the company achieved the top spot. Similarly, in the backbone router market, Huawei has maintained the top position for three consecutive years as well. Furthermore, 2019 also marked the first time Huawei routers took to top seat in the metro router market, making Huawei the No 1 in the global carrier market in the world.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-219843 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/5g-infrastructure.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei" width="600" height="400" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/5g-infrastructure.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/5g-infrastructure-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>For those unaware, Huawei is a pioneering figure in the telecommunications industry. It is a leader in <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/5g/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">5G </a>networking and its supplementing equipment and technologies, and the continued investments in the field have been the key factor leading to this achievement. Currently, the company is also working with various governments from across the globe that is adopting the newer faster bandwidth.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/03/05/realme-6-6-pro-with-90hz-display-snapdragon-720g-and-30w-fast-charging/">Realme 6, 6 Pro with 90Hz display, Snapdragon 720G and 30W fast charging launched with Rs. 12,999 (~$175) starting price</a></strong></h6>
<p>Omdia&#8217;s report specifically brings up the customer centric approach Huawei has in the market. Other notable phrases used to describe the company&#8217;s success included its innovative products, next generation protocols and solutions and more. The dominance in the router field has also been accredited to various growths in the 5G networking and cloud computing fields.</p>
<p>The NetEngine 8000 series from Huawei is the only router in the industry that supports the E2E 400GE standards. In other words, the company has launched cutting edge routers that have yet to see a viable rival competing against it. This series of routers are capable of handling ten fold increases in traffic while also maintaining affordable per bit costs for large scale businesses.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-279813 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/huawei-logo.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei" width="1200" height="800" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/huawei-logo.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/huawei-logo-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/huawei-logo-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/huawei-logo-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/huawei-logo-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/huawei-logo-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/huawei-logo-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>Simply put, Huawei has been a class leader in this field providing very competitive and viable products to other businesses as well. The company originally started developing routers back in 1995, and the 25 years&#8217; worth of investment in R&amp;D is clearly paying off now. As of right now, Huawei routers are spread across 130 different nations, providing intelligent IP networks and other solutions to various markets.</p>

<p>According to a new report from IHS Markit, Samsung accounted for about 29 percent of total smartphone display shipments in the third quarter of this year. In comparison, in Q2 2019 it only had a 21.3 percent market share. The sizeable jump in sales numbers has propelled Samsung to the top spot again beating out <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/boe-display/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">BOE displays</a> for the first time since Q4 of 2018.</p>

<p>Samsung&#8217;s active matrix organic light emitting displays (or AMOLED) is becoming increasingly more popular with other smartphone manufacturers. David Hseih, Senior Director from <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ihs-markit/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">IHS Markit</a> also stated that more and more companies are quickly adopting the AMOLED technology for their mid to even high-end smartphone offerings. Many major brands including <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/brand/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Apple</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/brand/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Huawei</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/brand/oppo/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Oppo</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/brand/vivo/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Vivo</a>, and even <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Xiaomi</a> have used AMOLED technology in their high-end models in 2019. Being the most seasoned and well-known supplier of AMOLED displays, the company has seen AMOLED shipments totaling 146 million units in Q3, up from 93 million from Q2 2019.</p>
<figure id="attachment_147006" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-147006" style="width: 720px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-147006" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Galaxy-Note8-Star-Pink.jpg?x10805" alt="Galaxy Note8 Star Pink" width="720" height="480" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Galaxy-Note8-Star-Pink.jpg 720w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Galaxy-Note8-Star-Pink-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-147006" class="wp-caption-text">Galaxy Note 8 Featuring A Super AMOLED Display</figcaption></figure>
<p>Notably, this also marked the first time AMOLED shipments had surpassed<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/lcd/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> LTPS TFT LCD</a> shipments (144 million). Hence, it implies the AMOLED demand in the market will only further increase and Samsung will be well utilizing this opportunity. Furthermore, other Chinese companies like BOE, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/visionox/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Visionox</a>, ChinaStar, Tianma, and EverDislpay will also seek to gain with their AMOLED offerings but will be nowhere near the South Korean veteran.</p>

The year 2019 has already been predicted to be the year of foldable smartphones just as 2018 was dominated by full-screen phone. Samsung has already revealed that it would be releasing a foldable phone. So too, the trio of LG, Huawei and OPPO have at one point or the order shown interests in foldable phones. Research firm IHS Markit has now predicted that the number of foldable AMOLED screens that will be shipped between now and 2025 will reach 50 million.</p>
<p><a href="gizmochina.com"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter" src="http://img1.mydrivers.com/img/20181109/e88c230756aa4033b37845f8dd8d0f38.gif" alt="IHS: Folding AMOLED panel shipments will reach 50 million by 2025" width="591" height="381" /></a></p>
<p>Despite the towering prediction, it shows the foldable design won&#8217;t be so popular as it will account for just 6% of expected total AMOLED shipments by 2025 (825 million). The foldable AMOLEDs are also expected to account for 11% of the total shipments of flexible AMOLED panels (476 million). According to Jerry Kang, a senior principal analyst at IHS Markit  Display Research, phone manufacturers are putting serious efforts in the aspect of smartphone designs, bringing in more innovativeness. This innovativeness is borne out of the need to shift focus from the traditional smartphone market due to saturation.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/foldable-amoled.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-221918" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/foldable-amoled.jpg?x10805" alt="foldable AMOLED display panel" width="600" height="298" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/foldable-amoled.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/foldable-amoled-300x149.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>

<p>Jerry Kang also disclosed that smartphone manufacturers are rather cautious about launching a foldable smartphone due to concerns about durability especially when the panel is folded repeatedly. Thus, the shift to foldable AMOLED may indeed be a gradual one. The panel makers are expected to gradually increase their plant capacity utilization. Due to the low demand for traditional flexible AMOLED panels, suppliers expect smartphone brands to introduce foldable devices as early as possible. With a more optimistic attitude, some manufacturers are even considering investing in new factories to produce foldable AMOLED panels. IHS predicts that the supply capacity of flexible AMOLED panels will account for more than half of the total supply capacity of AMOLED panel by the fourth quarter of 2019.</p>
