The global smartwatch market recorded a healthy 24% YoY growth in 2021 after seeing hardly any growth in the preceding year due to COVID-19. Q4 2021 alone saw over 40 million units shipped, which is the highest quarterly shipments for the category ever, the latest data from Counterpoint shows.

With newer features that help monitor health parameters like blood pressure, ECG, and SPO2 making it to cheaper watches, the market looks set to expand even further this year.

Moving on to brand performance during last year, it was Apple that held the top spot in the smartwatch market globally, with a share of 30%. The company also accounted for half of the total market revenue.

Samsung stood second and was actually one of the most successful smartwatch OEMs in 2021, recording QoQ growth of over 200% in Q3 2021, and continued growing well into the end of last year. Moving on to Wear OS following a partnership with Google has helped partly with that.

Huawei ranked third, continuing its launch of various high-end and kids’ smartwatches despite the US ban. However, the company’s market share dipped from 10.7% in 2020 to about 7.7% in 2021.

The rest of the market was captured by brands like imoo, Amazfit, Garmin, Fitbit, Xiaomi, and Noise — in order of their market share. From these imoo was actually the top choice in the kids’ smartwatch segment. Amazfit, meanwhile, expanded its position in the market in 2021, recording a 20% YoY growth.

That aside, it’s important to highlight here that India was actually one of the driving forces behind the global smartwatch market growth in 2021. The country only accounted for 3% of the global market in 2020 but grew nearly four times to close at 10% in 2021.

Imoo Learning phone, the education-oriented smartphone from the stables of BBK Electronics has continued to make waves weeks after going official. The device is not yet available for purchase but reservation for the device has hit a whooping 2998 Yuan ( $450) price tag on JD.com for the China Unicom 4G LTE model.

The educational smartphone was expected to start at 2000 Yuan ($300) but rushing for the device has seen the price sky-rocket to a staggering 2998 yuan ($450). That is a huge 1000 yuan ($150) above the recently released Honor 8 which starts at 1998 Yuan ($300). So, the phone which resembles Apple’s iPhone in appearance, is surprising priced like the high-end iPhone.

For this price, you get a sleek smartphone with 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display, equipped with a MediaTek MT6755 2GHz octa-core processor , 3GB RAM, 32GB of unexpandable storage onboard, a 13MP rear camera unit as well as a 5MP front -facing camera and 2930mAh battery.

Also, the Imoo Learning phone is stuffed with various software and features that aid learning for school – age kids, most of whom own one device or another which usually has no educationally beneficial software pre-installed. But the Imoo Learning phone which runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based Study OS, has integrated synchronization for 325,000 teaching textbook selected across China, 170,000 synchronized educational papers, 16 million sync solved problems, test questions that cut across primary to high school to University level.

There is also a function on the phone which can be turned on to help solve arithmetic problems by scanning the problem with the phone’s camera and also to translate words by scanning as well. The Imoo Learning phone also allows parents to set daily learning, play duration for their kids among other amazing things.

Earlier teasers about the new brand from BBK “imoo learning phone” were not certain to describe its features. We knew that the youngest brand of the BBK family will come targeting education, therefore targeting students first. Other members of the family are Oppo, Vivo and OnePlus as we highlighted in this article. Now we know most of  the specs and why its called a learning phone for young students.

Lesson/subject synchronization, teacher consulting and parent safety (probably tracking of the children) are some info related about “student and school” relationship. Students can use the data-saving feature of imoo phone, thereby using less internet for their learning. They will also have the chance to track their schedule/lessons online from imoo.

Imoo looks like its big brother, Vivo V3Max in front. Back side of the phone is similar to the iPhone 6s except the hole between the camera and the flash. It could be a place for the laser focus in addition to some other feature, which we will know for sure after the official launch. What’s more interesting is that we can’t see any fingerprint scanner back or front and imoo may have thought that it’s not necessary for children.

The learning phone comes with a 5.5″ Full HD AMOLED  screen, equipped with MediaTek P10  eight-core 2GHz processor. 3GB RAM, 32GB ROM, 2930mAh battery, 13MP rear camera, 5MP selfie camera are the other specs of the phone as we know for now. It will have Android 6.0 out of the box measuring 158 x 78 x 7 mm and 154.5 gm.

We all know that Chinese students are a big community, following mobile technology very well. Most of them will probably want a new phone for the next school period and  parents might choose to buy imoo for their children because of the education oriented abilities of the new brand. Price for the imoo phone will be around 2000 Yuan – $300.

Imoo is a new brand from BBK Electronics, the parent company that owns OnePlus, Oppo, and Vivo.

BBK has said the new line will be focused on making educational smartphones, but these images don’t show if there’s any special hardware that makes the phone stand out as an educational device. What we have is one of the renders featuring what looks like an app for learning English.

This still leave us with unanswered questions such as how the phone is going to achieve this “educational status”? Is Imoo going to create new apps or will they be using what is currently available in the Play Store? Will it be building a modified version of android like what Fuhu did with the Nabi line of tablets?

We sure do hope Imoo answers these questions in the coming weeks.

You may have come across the company, BBK Electronics, in the past, as we have mentioned this name a couple of times in the past few years. The company is important to all Chinese smartphone lovers, as they are behind some of the most famous phone brands in the market right now, including OPPO, Vivo, and even OnePlus. So, if BBK is releasing a new smartphone brand, we can expect some pretty good products.

The company has just released a new brand called as “imoo”. This particular brand will be focused on making educational smartphones. This is not actually a new market for BBK, as the company has been involved with educational toys for kids for the past few years. So, the company is now bringing its experience in the educational segment and the smartphone segment together to make educational smartphones under the imoo brand. We are not entirely sure what to expect from these so-called educational smartphones, but more details are coming in the next few days.

The new brand imoo also released the first teaser for its device recently, which reveals some details about the phone. First of all, the brand is calling it as the “imoo learning phone” and it will be officially announced on June 24. Also, from the image, we can confirm that the phone comes with a slim form factor and metal frame with at least one color option, gold.

Another interesting thing we noted here was that the company said “imoo is coming” in English. Plus, there are a lot of words in English on the teaser image. Could we see some learning material from Chinese to Eng or vice versa on this phone? Maybe, we are just speculating too much based on limited information. Anyway, we should hear more about the phone this week. Stay tuned!
