Now, the Chinese tech giant has officially revealed that it is also working on an in display selfie camera to go along with this technology as well.</p>
<figure id="attachment_233692" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-233692" style="width: 690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-233692 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/vivo-apex-2019-7.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei" width="690" height="390" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/vivo-apex-2019-7.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/vivo-apex-2019-7-300x170.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-233692" class="wp-caption-text">Vivo APEX 2019 featured an all screen fingerprint unlock display</figcaption></figure>
<p>When the company was reached out regarding a possible co-existence of both technology by <em><a href="https://www.androidauthority.com/huawei-all-screen-fingerprint-in-display-selfie-camera-1146209/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Android Authority</a></em>, Huawei responded by saying, &#8220;We are working to make it (all-screen fingerprint reader) co-exist with in-display selfie cameras.&#8221; In other words, we can expect a device in the near future to arrive with two of the most highly anticipated feature of next generation smartphones.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/18/oppo-power-bank2-launched-10000mah-battery-fast-charging/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Oppo Power Bank 2 launched in India, features 10,000mAh battery pack and fast charging</a></strong></h6>
<p>Although, how exactly the Chinese tech giant plan on achieving this is currently unknown. OEMs face various difficulties with all screen fingerprint scanners, like its requirement of having multiple biometric sensors instead of just a single one that is placed at a particular spot. However, Huawei said that it is working to &#8220;cut down the cost of sensors” to make the technology more viable for the market.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-307663 " src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/s_c9e7ace187d24b99a1c8452c193ff237.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei" width="684" height="401" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/s_c9e7ace187d24b99a1c8452c193ff237.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/s_c9e7ace187d24b99a1c8452c193ff237-300x176.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 684px) 100vw, 684px" /></p>
<p>In theory, multiple sensors also translate to high power draw, but the company said that it is using machine learning to only deliver power to the part of the screen users&#8217; touch, while the others remain dormant. According to Huawei, the availability of the technology in the market is still a couple of generations off, so we will likely not see it in the upcoming <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-mate-40/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Mate 40</a> series, and maybe not even in 2021.</p>

A day ahead of the MWC Shanghai 2019, OPPO VP Brian Shen took to Weibo to state that the image quality of the in-screen camera technology may not be good.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/06/25/worlds-first-in-screen-camera-phone-from-oppo-may-sacrifice-on-image-quality/oppo-vp-brian-shen-on-in-screen-camera-technology/" rel="attachment wp-att-260908"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-260908" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/OPPO-VP-Brian-Shen-on-In-Screen-Camera-Technology.png?x10805" alt="OPPO VP Brian Shen on In-Screen Camera Technology" width="518" height="528" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/OPPO-VP-Brian-Shen-on-In-Screen-Camera-Technology.png 518w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/OPPO-VP-Brian-Shen-on-In-Screen-Camera-Technology-294x300.png 294w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/OPPO-VP-Brian-Shen-on-In-Screen-Camera-Technology-356x364.png 356w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/OPPO-VP-Brian-Shen-on-In-Screen-Camera-Technology-412x420.png 412w" sizes="(max-width: 518px) 100vw, 518px" /></a></p>
<p>Brian has claimed that the application of the new technology will not be smooth, and he is concerned of the image quality.  After the announcement of OPPO’s in-display camera technology earlier this month, Brian had claimed that at present the screen camera is unable to generate the same image quality as the non-screen camera. He added that the images captured through the new technology will have some loss in optical quality. He had also said that it is difficult to mass produce the in-display camera technology.</p>
<p>In a bid to offer higher screen to users, smartphone manufactures have tried to cut down the size of the upper bezel through different solutions such as notches, punch-hole design and pop-up front camera. However, the in-display camera technology is all about embedding the front camera under the display of the phone.</p>

<p>When the in-screen fingerprint technology was introduced few years ago, it wasn’t perfect, and it took time to deliver accurate results. The same applies for the in-display camera technology. Xiaomi has also confirmed that it is working on the new screen camera technology. OPPO’s sibling firm Vivo too is reported working on the same technology. With multiple companies working on the same technology, improvements are expected to happen sooner.</p>
<p>OPPO has been working on the screen camera technology since 2017. Since the screen camera has to work with other components and imaging algorithms, it is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/06/10/oppo-rd-team-details-the-development-of-under-screen-camera-technology/">difficult to implement this technology</a>. The Chinese firm is expected to shed more light on it at the MWC Shanghai 2019 this week. Also, it is not known which forthcoming handset from OPPO will be featuring the screen camera technology.</p>
