<p><img loading="lazy" class=" wp-image-325442 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/f5482f32-aea2-4dec-a4eb-7525ea581fab.png?x44794" alt="Honor" width="371" height="665" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/f5482f32-aea2-4dec-a4eb-7525ea581fab.png 471w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/f5482f32-aea2-4dec-a4eb-7525ea581fab-167x300.png 167w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/f5482f32-aea2-4dec-a4eb-7525ea581fab-234x420.png 234w" sizes="(max-width: 371px) 100vw, 371px" /></p>
<p>This feature had also been hinted at a recent teaser for the upcoming handset. In the promotional poster image, a temperature checking infrared machine can be observed, which is used to measure a person&#8217;s temperature. So, we can expect such functionality to make its way to the Honor Play 4.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/01/honor-play4-pro-full-specifications-appears-ahead-of-june-3-launch/">Honor Play4 Pro full specifications appear ahead of June 3 launch</a></strong></h6>
<p>Recently, the Product Manager of Honor Play, Wei Xiaolong, revealed a few key features of its upcoming device. This included a quad camera setup on the rear, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/kirin-990/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Kirin 990 5G SoC</a>, and an infrared sensor. While the latter two arrive as no surprise, the inclusion of the IR sensor adds a degree of additional functionality to a smartphone. One can use it to control home products like TVs, ACs, and more.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-325399 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Honor-Play4-render-black.jpg?x44794" alt="Honor Play 4" width="3000" height="1395" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Honor-Play4-render-black.jpg 3000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Honor-Play4-render-black-300x140.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Honor-Play4-render-black-768x357.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Honor-Play4-render-black-1024x476.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Honor-Play4-render-black-696x324.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Honor-Play4-render-black-1068x497.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Honor-Play4-render-black-903x420.jpg 903w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Honor-Play4-render-black-1920x893.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 3000px) 100vw, 3000px" /></p>
<p>Although, the Honor Play 4&#8217;s infrared sensor also serves another special function. It can measure the temperature. During this time of crisis, with the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/coronavirus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Coronavirus</a> pandemic being a cause for global concern, this feature can be especially useful. Many public spaces like malls, shopping complexes, and more will measure the temperatures of a person to determine if they are sick or not. Thus, the Honor Play 4 being able to measure temperatures of a person could make it quite useful, especially for general consumers.</p>

The small but useful addition allows users to control a wide range of electronics with their phone. Sadly, Xiaomi has decided not to include it in the Redmi 6 and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-6a/">Redmi 6A</a>.</p>
<p>We first noticed the IR sensor was missing in hands-on photos of the Redmi 6 posted on <em>ITHome.</em> Then we decided to confirm on the official website and found out that Xiaomi didn&#8217;t include it in the Redmi 6A too.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-196584" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Redmi-6-IR-sensor.jpg?x44794" alt="Redmi 6 No IR sensor" width="600" height="413" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Redmi-6-IR-sensor.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Redmi-6-IR-sensor-300x207.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>It is sad to see Xiaomi has removed a feature that has sort of become associated with the brand. We do not know if this will continue with future devices or if it is just the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A. If this is a feature you find you can&#8217;t live without, you may want to overlook these two phones and settle for Xiaomi&#8217;s older models.</p>
<p>Apart from the missing sensor, the Redmi 6A and Redmi 6 offer great value for money. Both devices come with a 5.45-inch screen with an 18:9 aspect ratio and HD+ resolution. The Redmi 6 is powered by MediaTek&#8217;s new Helio P22 SoC which should offer slightly more performance and power management when compared to the Snapdragon 625. It also has dual cameras, face unlock, and a fingerprint scanner.</p>

<p>The Redmi 6A, on the other hand, is powered by the Helio A22. It is also a 12nm chipset but with four A53 cores. The smaller node size means it should offer an increase in performance over the Snapdragon 425 found in the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-5a/">Redmi 5A</a>.</p>
