As the rumor mill had predicted, the iPhone X comes with a full screen display with a u-shaped notch to house all the necessary sensors. Here is all that you need to know on its specs, features and pricing.

Design and Display

A decade ago, Apple introduced its first iPhone that came with a bigger screen and plenty of exciting features that were not found on competitor phones. The design of the first iPhone inspired other smartphone OEMs to launch big screen phones. The iPhone X with its refreshed design is expected to inspire rival brands to launch similar phones in the near future.

The iPhone X has a glass and metal combination body that was first seen on iPhone 4 from 2010. The glass is reinforced with internal and copper structure which makes it the strongest glass ever used on a smartphone. The handset measures 143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7 mm and its weight is 174 grams. With IP68 certification, the iPhone X’s body is resistant to dust and water. It comes in two colors like Silver and Space Gray.

The display is the USP of the iPhone X as it features a 5.8-inch OLED screen that supports a resolution of 1,125 x 2,436 pixels with a pixel density of 458 ppi. The screen of the iPhone X is called Super Retina Display by Apple.

It offers a screen-to-body ratio of 81.23 percent and has super-slim bezels around the screen. The topside of the screen has a notch that houses the selfie camera and Face ID sensor. The True Tone display can automatically adjust the screen’s color by scanning the ambient conditions. It also supports Dolby Vision, HDR 10 and 3D Touch.

Performance, Software and Face ID

The Apple A11 Bionic six-core chipset that is 25 percent faster and 70 percent power efficient than the Apple A10 Fusion powers the iPhone X. It also features an in-house graphics from Apple that offers 30 percent better performance than the one Apple had used previously. The improved stereo speaker on the iPhone X is 25 percent louder than the iPhone 7 duo. The iPhone X also carries support for Bluetooth 5.0.

The exact capacity of the iPhone X’s battery was not revealed at its launch event. However, Apple claims that it can last 2 hours more than the iPhone 7. The presence of the glass body allows the iPhone X to support Qi wireless charging. The quick charging feature that has been introduced on the iPhone X can gain 50 percent battery by charging it for 30 minutes.

The iOS 11 will come preinstalled on the iPhone X. It brings the new tap to wake feature. Swiping upwards allows users to unlock the iPhone X and swiping up and hold will show the multitasking UI. Swiping up and throwing gesture brings user to home screen. The Control Center is moved to the top on iPhone X.

Touch ID sensor has been replaced by the new Face ID feature. Enabled with a projector that creates 30,000 dots on the face of the user and a flood illuminator that allows the feature to function even in the dark, the Face ID feature can scan the face of the user and unlock the iPhone X. It can be also used for authenticating payments through Apple Pay.

The face scanning sensors on the iPhone X brings a AR new feature called Animoji (animated emoji) that can be used on iMessage. It allows the cartoon characters can match the facial expressions and voice of the user.

The leaked operating system version revealed quite a lot of information about what g has in the works which would be going official in a matter of hours from now. One of the revelation is that the Apple A11 system chip will be powering the tenth anniversary iPhone.

Just to clarify on the A11: it's two high-power Monsoon cores and four low-power Mistral cores, all independently addressable. No Fusion

— Steve Troughton-Smith (@stroughtonsmith) September 10, 2017

Not much is known about the configuration of the A11 chip but it has emerged that some details of the new chip were also contained on the iOS 11 leaked Gold Master edition. According to developer Steve Troughton-Smith on Twitter, the iOS 11 Gold Master leak revealed that the A11 chip will feature six processor cores. Two cores are named Monsoon and will perform tough tasks which require high power such as gaming and video manipulation. On the other hand, the remaining four cores are named Mistral cores and will handle the lighter stuff like texting and checking email, and other lighter functions. This is different from the Apple A10 and A10X chips which were released last year and earlier this year respectively. The A10 chip came with two high-powered cores and two high efficient cores while the A10x used on the iPad Pro comes with three high powered Hurricane cores and three high-efficiency Zephyr cores.

Related: Apple iPhone X, 8 and 8 Plus Rumor Roundup, Launch Event & Livestream Details

In addition, the Apple A11 chip is revealed to come with the capability to run all its CPU cores independently. What this translates to is that software could be able to access multiple cores of any kind, depending on the task at hand and in a situation where maximum power is required, all could run simultaneously. This is in contrast to the A10 Fusion which could use only its high-performance or low-power cores at any given time. So, we expect the next generation iPhone models to come with some power more than what we have seen before. It won’t be long before it gets spotted in benchmark tests and when it does, expect some amazing results that may dwarf all the new flagship chips we have around presently. We’ll get to find out more and perhaps confirm these features when the device goes official and good thing we won’t have to wait long for that to happen.

The new watch model is expected to feature support for cellular connectivity in the form of LTE only but not much is known about the Apple Watch 3, However, Apple recently released an update for its iOS 11 beta and it revealed some details of the features the next-gen Apple Watch is expected to come with.

The Apple iOS 11 beta was announced during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) held over two months ago. Since then, iOS 11 beta has had several updates and is now in its eighth beta. OS 11 brings quite a few design changes, including a customizable Control Center and a new Lock screen that’s been merged with the Notification Center. Peer-to-peer Apple Pay payments are coming in the Messages app, which is also gaining a new App Drawer, and there’s a Do Not Disturb While Driving feature that’s meant to help drivers stay focused on the road. Siri, Photos, the Camera app, and more are also gaining new features and refinements.

Apart from its latest features, iOS 11 beta has also been shown to come with a couple of new support for a couple of new features for the Apple Watch 3. The features include a couple of new Workouts and we could grab this information from a variety of icons that have newly been added to the latest iOS 11 beta update. The Apple Watch doesn’t support some of the features presently which points to the likelihood of the icons being included on the OS because of the Apple Watch companion app. The icons are said to be for new Workouts under the Fitness UI framework.

Read More: Apple iPhone 8, iPhone 7S and 7S Plus May Get Unveiled on September 12, Claims WSJ

The new Workout icons that can be seen in the iOS 11 beta include American football, baseball, bowling, dancing, skiing and other modalities in the snow, skipping rope, various types of fights, and surfing. Apple is also working on the watchOS 4 beta and it does not include all of the features but you can find some of them under the “Others” tab. However, the non-inclusion of all of them have fueled speculations that the features may only be available for the upcoming Apple Watch model. But since most of the features don’t require any hardware changes, that may not be the case. It is possible that more of the features could appear in the subsequent update to the watch OS 4 beta.

It has also announced a refreshed 12.9-inch iPad Pro as a successor for the original version that was launched in 2015.

10.5-inch, 12.9-inch iPad Pro Specifications and Features

Apple has managed to include a 10.5-inch screen into the same form factor of a 9.7-inch iPad Pro by cutting down on the bezels by 40 percent. The weight of the tablet is only 1 pound. The new 10.5-inch and the refreshed 12.9-inch iPad Pros come with True Tone screens that can automatically adjust the temperature of the color on the basis of lighting conditions.

The displays also offer a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz which means users can take advantage of smooth scrolling and responsiveness along with 20ms latency for Apple Pencil. The ProMotion feature enhances display quality by consuming less power and automatically adjusts the refresh rate. Other features of the display include wide color gamut with HDR video support, ultralow reflectivity and 600 nits brightness.

The new iPad Pros are fueled by Apple A10X Fusion chipset that features a hexa-core processor which includes three high-performance cores and three high-efficiency cores. It also includes a 12-core graphics that delivers 40 percent better graphics performance than Apple A9X. The new iPad Pros can deliver a battery performance of up 10 hours along with fast charging support.
