The Sony ULT FIELD 1 heavy bass portable Bluetooth speaker has been unveiled in China. The product is available on pre-sale and comes with IP67 dust and water-resistant capabilities.

Features

The Sony ULT FIELD 1 is a portable Bluetooth speaker with heavy bass output. It comes in four color options namely beige, black, forest gray, and orange. Its lanyard is adjustable and detachable in length,

The product adopts a two-way design, with the mid-bass unit and high-frequency unit responsible for different frequency bands. This is capable of delivering smooth and natural sound, according to Sony. Sony’s self-developed DSP tuning further enhances the low-frequency output while maintaining clear vocal presentation. The speaker offers up to 12 hours of playback at 50% volume and with ULT on.

The product has dimensions of 224 x 104 x 101mm and weighs 810g, inclusive of its packaging. The size of the mid-low frequency unit is 83 x 42mm while the high-frequency unit has a diameter of 16mm. The two units deliver 20W and 10W outputs respectively.
The companion app of the Sony ULT Field 1 is the Music Center App via which you can customize the EQ settings. The app also supports the Adapter Stereo mode.

The Bluetooth speaker is equipped with a ULT mode button that can enhance low frequencies and sound field just by clicking on it. In addition, the product also supports IP67 dust and water resistance, as well as rust and shock resistance. It supports Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity and two ULT FIELD 1 units can form a stereo mode. The speaker’s built-in microphone suppresses echoes during calls and improves overall call quality.

In 2020, we have been impressed with a bunch of true wireless earbuds. Just when we thought the list of 2020 recommended wireless budget earbuds should come to a close, EarFun Air changed our mind, completely. The EarFun Air is the latest Earbuds product designed by EarFun HK. The company has brought quite a few budget audio products with impressive industrial design and high-quality sound.

Compared with other budget earbuds, the $59.99 EarFun Air offers a variety of improvements, from in-ear comfort design to a 4-way microphone for clear ambient-sound-canceling calls; from IPX7 waterproof to longer battery life.

Design

Whether you are a design enthusiast who’s interested in the good looking electronic products or an audiophile seeking convenient high-quality audio devices, the EarFun Air could probably catch your eyes in both aspects.
Comparing the EarFun Air with many well-known brands’  earbuds, the biggest highlight at first glance should be the industrial design. Many of these accessory-type earbuds present a highly recognizable identity to the brand but share poor design as an independent audio device. And design seems to be its specialty as the EarFun Air has won the IF Design Award 2020 and CES 2020 Innovation Award. Even as a common consumer, we also can feel the refinement in use.

EarFun Air’s in-ear design has the best fit that we’ve ever experienced. It’s comfortable and secure as we tried most ears in the office with 4 pairs of silicone tips in various sizes and did not hear any complaints about the fit.

However, when compared to other earbuds, the Air’s controls are much more complicated. But if you can get past the learning curve, the touch controls offer a wider range of hands-free audio controls. The round sensitive panels on both ears work as follows:

So make sure that you could remember all the above so well if you are having a lot of calls. Otherwise, for music play, it’s much easier to just use the basic L/R bud controls.

The charging case is well-designed and it is not just shaped like a boring cube. Although it’s made of plastic, the smooth surface with a matte finish leads to a mismatch of elegant design and inexpensive pricing. Another surprise is that the case not only can be charged with the included USB-C cable but also supports wireless charging, which is really not a necessary feature for a pair of inexpensive earbuds. An LED on the front face roughly indicates the battery state in different colors: Green for a full charge, orange for halfway, red for empty.

Connection

The EarFun Air supports Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity (No AptX codecs). The connecting process is intuitive and simple for various devices. No matter you are going to use it for PC, Android, or iOS devices, the Air has stable signals with clear audio within around 15M distance. But in different uses, a slight latency (about 0.2s) sometimes could be perceived, which may lead to an uncomfortable feeling for someone who requires accurate Sound & Picture sync during gaming.

Performance

The Air’s sound quality and music performance are also not bad at all. Especially on the lows such as tracks with strong bass, the Air covered good bass depth, and presented a better feeling of its general sound signature, which emphasizes strong bass.

On tracks like songs, the Air delivered the singing part clearly and naturally without pushing instrumentation too far forward. However, the treble is still not as outstanding as the bass. At high-volume listening levels, the bass sometimes may run over the mids and highs but it’s still far away from being muffled.

IPX7 waterproof

Another highlight should be the excellent IPX7-rating waterproof. It means that the earbuds are able to work well with sweat, rain, and getting completely submerged under shallow water.

But pay attention here: the charging case, however, is not waterproof.

Battery and charge

There is a 55mAh battery in each earbud, which in daily use, could last for around 5-7 hours. Putting the Earbuds back to the charging case, a full-charge requires 1.5 hours. The 500mAh charging case is estimated to provide around 4 full-charges for the earbuds. so generally, if you prefer to use dual-buds at the same time, you can squeeze out a day’s usage.

The case can be fully charged with the USB-C cable in 2 hours, while it needs 4 hours if you charge it in a wireless way.

4-microphone Noise-canceling call

The 4-microphone offers great ambient sounds canceling when we have phone calls. Recording with the 4 microphones, it did sound much better than I’ve experienced on other budget earbuds. And I eventually got positive feedback from my call partner since he used to complain about the sound of my microphone. But it’s still not able to guarantee a perfect conversation quality because of poor phone or Bluetooth signals.

Conclusion

We’ve tested a lot of inexpensive earbuds and decided not to give full reviews for some of them. The reason is pretty simple: they did not bring a lot of value for their pricing. On the contrary, the reason that we admired EarFun Air is simple: the product value exceeds its price. Besides good sound quality and excellent waterproof, we are more impressed by its identifiable industrial design, which is really a rare attempt for budget earbuds.

ZTE’s Nubia Z17 flagship may be the next Snapdragon 835-powered smartphone we would be meeting after the HTC U11 but that isn’t the only spectacular thing about the upcoming model. Apart from the revelation that the device would feature a bezel-less display along with the Snapdragon 835 firepower, the Z17 is also coming with an IP67 water and dustproof build.

A short 15 seconds video clip demonstrating the waterproof property of the Nubia Z17 has appeared online on China’s Weibo. The video clearly shows the device under a running tap inside a sink and still operational! There wasn’t any sign of the functioning being affected by water and the picture still remained sharp and crisp clear. We don’t have many details to verify if really the device is the Nubia Z17 as the video only showed the front view of the device. But the smartphone seems to have a bezel-less display just as the Z17 is said to have. The phone also looks like the Nubia Z11 but the Z11 isn’t waterproof and so, could not have continued functioning under water. The Nubia Z17 has lately made a couple of appearances on TENAA and in benchmarks including AnTuTu where it was revealed that the flagship may take the bar to 8GB RAM on its topmost model. There is no doubt its launch is close by, considering that the device had even made a brief appearance on Nubia’s official website, perhaps as a test run or a teaser. The Z17 is also expected to come with a dual camera setup touted to be configured as a 23MP + 12MP camera combination. Further, the phone is said to feature the latest version of Android 7.1.1.

The Amazfit smartband comes with a built-in ECG sensor which performs functions like heart rate monitoring, pulse monitoring and others. The device comes with a body made from both aluminium and stainless steel. While the strap is made from a 19mm-wide skin-friendly rubber. There is a 0.42-inch OLED display at the front and from the display, you can access features such as time and date and other parameters.

There is no doubt the Xiaomi Mi 6 is on its way and its launch is drawing closer, considering the spate of new leaks surrounding the device. The Mi 6 promises to offer lots of new features and among the lot is the Snapdragon 835 chipset that would pilot the affairs on board the flagship.

Another new feature may have just been discovered with a new leak that emerged. The leak is that of the SIM card tray of the Mi 6 lying on top of that of the Mi 5. In comparison, the Mi 6 SIM tray looks thicker with watertight features than the Mi 5’s SIM tray which isn’t water tight. Apart from revealing that the Mi 6 would pack dual SIM slots, the SIM card tray also reveal another stunning feature which is the presence of waterproofing on the trays.

Waterproofing the SIM tray or making it water tight only means one thing, that is the presence of IP67 level of water and dust protection on the flagship. If that should be the case, then earlier rumours that the Mi 6 would not feature the 3.5mm audio jack may just have some credibility. We had also seen leaked image of the Xaiomi Bluetooth headphone X which would function as the Mi 6’s wireless headphones. We still haven’t seen how the USB Type-C slot would look like in order to support the waterproof and dustproof feature. The Mi 6 details just keep getting juicier. Android Wear 2.0 is coming very soon and if you are eager to get your hands on a watch sporting the new OS, you should look no farther than at the LG Watch Sport and Watch Style smartwatches.

Images of the watches were leaked recently but they were blurry and might have made it difficult to appreciate their beauty. Yesterday, Evan Blass (@evleaks) posted a new set of pictures of the Watch Style that are way clearer and show more  details.

The Watch Style is the smaller of the two and has a 1.2-inch OLED display with a 360 x 360 resolution. Unlike the Watch Sport which has two physical buttons and a digital crown button, the LG Watch Style has only the latter. The pictures show the watch in two color variants: a Silver version with khaki-colored straps and a Rose Gold version with cream-colored straps.

LG’s Watch Style has an Ingress Protection (IP) rating of 67. So apart from being dust proof, you can also immerse it in water with a depth of between 15cm and 1 meter for 30 minutes. The Watch Style is said to have 512MB RAM, 4GB ROM, and a 240mAh battery.

The LG Watch Sport and Watch Style are made in conjunction with Google and have a deeper integration with Google Assistant. Both watches will launch on February 9 when Google unveils Android Wear 2.0 and will be available for purchase the next day. There is no news yet on how much each of LG’s watches will cost.
