Apple to launch new M2 iPad Pro with MagSafe charging this fall: Gurman

A new report has revealed that Apple is gearing up to launch a new iPad model later this year. It is expected to be the new 2022 iPad Pro that features next gen Apple Silicon and MagSafe support as well.

The news arrives from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman who shared the information on his Power On newsletter (Via MacRumors). In the report, Gurman added that the Cupertino based giant didn’t announce any new iPad Pro models earlier this month during its launch conference. So, the brand will likely launch new models sometime between September and November 2022.

Previously, Gurman had also staed that the iPhone maker will be releasing its “wildest array of new hardware products in its history” during fall 2022, so it appears that the new iPad Pros might be one of those products. As of right now, finer details regarding the upcoming iPad Pro is still unknown. However, we have covered a few rumors in the recent past. Furthermore, Gurman believes that the new high end iPads will feature MagSade charging support as well.

Apart from this, a major upgrade this year will be the shift towards the M2 based chipset, the highly anticipated successor to Apple’s first proprietary M1 chip. The M2 chip is also expected to feature 8 cores like the M1, but will arrive with boosted performance and improved energy efficiency thanks to the 4nm TSMC process. Apple won’t ship 11 inch iPad Pro with Mini LED display in 2022: Report

While we already reported on Apple raising its orders for mini LED displays, it seems that the number of products that will feature the technology are still limited. A new report has suggested that the 11 inch iPad Pro will skip mini LED this year.

Leaked Renders of iPad Pro 2022

The news arrives from display analyst Ross Young on Twitter. Back in 2021, the 12.9 inch iPad Pro was the only tablet model to feature mini LED display technology. Since then, it was rumored that additional iPad models will feature the new panels as well. However, in a Tweet, Ross Young claimed that this rumor is no longer true. Apparently, the 12.9 inch iPad Pro is “doing really well” but the Cupertino based giant has no plans of bringing mini LED to a smaller form factor.

Although, it would make more sense that the iPad Pro series as a whole using the same display technology since they already share specifications that are identical. This includes the M1 chipset, camera, and design. So, just the screen and battery capacities are the only differences. At the moment, Apple is expected to refresh the iPad Pro later this year, however, there have been numerous rumors, which makes it harder to have an accurate speculation.

Previous reports have hinted at support for reverse wireless charging to help charge other Apple branded products like AirPods, Watch, and iPhones. But, this newer reports had claimed that this might not be arriving anytime soon as the brand was facing issues with development for this feature. iPad Pro 2022 could feature Magsafe Wireless Charging thanks to a clever redesign

Apple is set to release its next-generation iPad Pro series in 2022 and from previous rumours, Apple is planning to redesign the iPad Pro to accommodate MagSafe, its wireless charging solution.

Integrating MagSafe wireless charging is not as easy as it sounds, because current iPad Pros have an aluminum back, and for wireless charging to work, the back must be made of glass to allow the current to flow through. However, based on rumours from 9to5Mac, Apple has found a clever workaround to the problem.

The upcoming 2022 iPad Pros are to retain the aluminium back case design, but the centered Apple logo will now be made of glass and made bigger to include the magnetic contact pads to conduct electricity for wireless charging. Insider sources claim the reason why Apple chose this design over the full glass back design of its iPhones is that a glass back design would make the iPad Pro much more fragile, heavier, and easier to be damaged.

9to5Mac sources also claim that Apple is already developing iPad Pro prototypes that utilize the bigger made-of-glass Apple logo for MagSafe wireless charging and the great news is that it supports wireless charging at higher wattages compared to the iPhones and features stronger magnets to prevent accidents from happening.

Besides integrating wireless charging, the iPad Pro 2022 may also feature the infamous Apple notch design, like the iPhone 13 Pro and Macbook Pro M1 Pro. There are some leaked renders of the upcoming iPad Pro 2022 that show off slimmer bezels, rounded corners, and the notch centered on top of the display.

The renders also show the back design of the iPad Pro 2022. It does seem that the Apple logo has been enlarged and that the camera module design now more resembles that of the iPhone 13 Pro lineup with the diagonal triple camera setup.

Whether the aforementioned prototypes will be sent for production, we will have to wait for the next Apple launch event. So do take the leaks with a grain of salt as the product has not been officially revealed yet.
