Apple discontinued the iPhone 12 mini with the launch of the iPhone 14 series in September 2022. However, for a while, the company continued to sell the device in refurbished condition on its website in the US.

The refurbished variant hit the shelves in late July 2022, which was months before the handset even got discontinued. But the product was only available in 128GB version.

Now, more than a year later, Apple has brought back the iPhone 12 mini refurbished model in stock on its US website. But this time around, the device is offered with 256GB storage and at a cheaper price.

The iPhone 13 mini was discontinued after the iPhone 15 lineup went official this September. With this, the ‘mini’ lineup was officially dead and it was no longer listed for sale, including refurbished variants.

Surprisingly, two months later, the iPhone 12 mini 256GB makes a return in its refurbished avatar on Apple’s US website. It is listed at $529, which makes it $50 cheaper than the 128GB refurbished variant ($579) that was sold earlier.

Currently, it is the only iPhone mini smartphone officially sold by Apple. Unfortunately, it is limited to the US.

Apple debuted its inaugural 5G iPhones in the form of the iPhone 12 lineup in the fall of 2020. The series also introduced the ‘mini’ model for the very first time.

Though netizens praised the return of the small form factor, the market preference is towards large-screen phones. Thus, the sales of iPhone 12 mini and its successor iPhone 13 mini tanked compared to the regular and pro models.

According to renowned Apple analyst Mark Gurman, iPhone 13 mini stocks are running low, and Apple’s online store in the United States is predicting shipping times of 2-3 weeks for some models and 6-8 weeks for others. This situation is suggesting that the company may be discontinuing production of the device after its Wonderlust event on Tuesday, where it is expected to unveil the iPhone 15 family.

Apple did not release an iPhone 14 mini last year, but it continued to sell the iPhone 13 mini in the United States for a starting price of $599 as a lower-cost option. If you are looking to buy an iPhone 13 mini, now may be your last chance. Apple is likely to discontinue production of the device after it introduces the iPhone 15 series on Tuesday.

Apple’s new lineup is expected to consist of a 6.1-inch iPhone 15, a 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus, a 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro, a 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Pro Max, and a 4.7-inch iPhone SE. While there initially seemed to be pent-up demand for a smaller iPhone, actual data showed that the iPhone mini had lower sales than other iPhone models.

In April 2022, research firm CIRP found that the iPhone 13 mini accounted for just 3% of total iPhone 13 sales in the United States in the first quarter of that year. Customers who want a small iPhone from Apple will have to settle for the entry-level iPhone SE, but even that device is rumored to be updated with a larger 6.1-inch display in the next one or two years.

At least for now, it seems that Apple has realized that small phones are not as popular as they once were.

A modded iPhone 12 Mini has been spotted with both USB-C and Lightning ports. The iPhone 12 series originally came with only a Lightning port. There had been reports of a possible switch by Apple from a Lightning port to a USB-C port before now. The addition of a USB-C interface is the first-ever modification of such nature for the iPhone 12 Mini. The feat of modifying the iPhone 12 Mini with the addition of the USB-C port was done by a YouTuber who goes by the name Hyphaistos3672.

The iPhone 12 Mini was first disassembled, with the speaker removed. This created space for an additional USB-C port which was then linked to the existing hardware. The speaker was then modified to fit into the new architecture. After reassembling the device, the components seemed to have fitted snugly. Both the internal and external finishing was surprisingly good.

Both the Lightning port and USB-C ports were demonstrated to be fully functional on the device. So it seems realistic to simultaneously charge the device while listening to audio via a wired connection. Since the removal of the audio jack from iPhones, it was not possible to simultaneously listen to audio and charge the iPhone.

It has to be stated though that the addition of a USB port is not new with iPhone modifications. There had also been speculations that Apple was considering ditching the Lightning port for USB-C connectivity. Indeed, there had been some regulatory pressure on the Cupertino-based company but it hasn’t changed to USB-C yet.

The iPhone 12 mini comes in a base variant with 64 GB of internal storage, a 128 GB variant, and a 256 GB configuration. The most recent model ships with iOS 15 out of the box, while the 12 mini is based on iOS 14.

Camera

When it comes to the camera hardware, there is not any difference between these two phones if we talk about the basics camera specifications. They have a dual rear camera including a 12 MP main sensor with OIS and a 12 MP ultrawide camera. But if you dig deeper, you will find out that the iPhone 13 mini has a better stabilization (sensor-shift OIS) and a bigger pixel size allowing it to capture more light. The front camera is exactly the same: a 12 MP sensor paired with an SL 3D biometrics sensor.

The starting price of the iPhone 12 mini in the U.S. is $499, while it launched for no much less than €600 in Europe. The color accuracy is better, colors are more brilliant and blacks are deeper. The panel is also wider with 5.4 inches and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The iPhone SE 2020 still comes with a good display, but it is inferior. It has an HD+ panel with a diagonal of 4.7 inches and True-tone technology.

Specs & Software

Besides offering a better design and display, the iPhone 12 Mini also packs better hardware components. It is powered by the Apple A14 Bionic chipset which is much better than Apple A13 Bionic and, unlike the A13, it supports 5G. The most affordable ones are naturally the non-Pro variants and for the first time in Apple’s history, there is a Mini version of the iPhone. Despite the existence of a Mini variant, the vanilla iPhone 12 is still a pretty compact phone compared to Android flagships. Does it make sense to choose an even smaller phone? What are the differences between the two handsets? This comparison will help you find out.

Apple iPhone 12 vs Apple iPhone 12 Mini

Design

If we exclude the dimensions, iPhone 12 and 12 Mini have the same design. They come with a glass back and an aluminum frame, as well as a borderless display on all the sides and a classic notch. Besides being more compact, the iPhone 12 Mini is also lighter with a weight of just 135 grams against 164 grams. The phones are dustproof and waterproof up to 6 meters deep for a max of 30 minutes, with the IP68 certification. Specs & Software

iPhone 12 and 12 Mini are equipped with the same hardware setup. It includes an Apple A14 Bionic chipset built at 5 nm with a max frequency of 3.1 GHz, 4 GB of RAM, and 64, 128, or 256 GB of native NVMe storage depending on the chosen configuration. They run iOS 14 out of the box which can be updated to iOS 14.7 with the last updates. Their performance is simply amazing in every scenario, despite you can get an even better multi-tasking experience with the Pro variants of the 12 series. Unfortunately, they do not have a micro SD slot to expand the internal storage, but they support the 5G connectivity, as well as Wi-Fi 6.

Camera

The iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Mini sport a dual rear camera with a 12 MP main sensor including optical stabilization and a 12 MP ultrawide sensor. Unfortunately, you do not get a telephoto sensor with these two phones (so no optical zoom), but they are able to shoot awesome photos in every condition and even better videos with a 4K resolution, 60 fps, and Dolby Vision.

Battery

The iPhone 12 Mini is smaller than the vanilla version, which means the battery is smaller too. The capacity of the battery in the iPhone 12 Mini is 2227 mAh, while the original iPhone 12 has a way bigger 2815 mAh battery. The vanilla iPhone 12 is able to reach up to 65 hours of battery life, while the Mini variant goes up to 50 hours. Both support fast charging with a power of 20W, as well as wireless charging through the MagSafe connectors. Note that iPhone 12 Mini supports 12W wireless charging, while the vanilla version goes up to 15W. However, this should not result in faster charging times because the Mini version has a smaller battery out of the box.

Price

The starting price of the vanilla iPhone 12 is €750 or $700, while the iPhone 12 Mini starts from €630 or $680. Note that the prices vary depending on the market: in the U.S. for example, the handsets are more affordable than in Europe. If you need a very compact phone and you do not mind having a smaller battery because you can charge your phone every day, the iPhone 12 Mini might be a very interesting choice for you. But if you prefer having a wider display and a bigger battery, just go for the iPhone 12 to get a better user experience.

Earlier this week, Apple announced a new color variant for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini. The new purple color is already available for pre-order and will go on sale next week.

Just like the other color options, this too won’t come with a charger in the box, so you have to purchase one if you don’t have a spare lying around. One of the recommended chargers you can pick up is the Anker Nano (Anker PowerPort III Nano 20W), a 20W USB-C charger that’s no bigger than Apple’s 5W charger. The good thing is that the charger now comes in a colorway that matches the new purple iPhones.

The purple Anker Nano charger seems to be China-exclusive as we didn’t find it on Anker’s US and UK websites. This is also a bundle as it comes with a matching braided USB-C to Lightning cable included in the package (doesn’t come with a cable by default).

The Anker Nano is 50% smaller than Apple’s own iPhone 12 20W USB-C charger. It is also 3x faster than the 5W charger and will charge the iPhone 12 from 0 to 50% in 25 minutes.

The charger is also compatible with older iPhones up to the iPhone 8, all generations of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the 3rd and 4th gen iPad Air, and the 7th and 8th gen iPad. While we would love to see Anker make the charger available in matching colors for the other colorways of the iPhone 12 series, the only other color available is Green and it too comes with a matching braided cable.

Apple has announced a new purple colorway for the iPhone 12 series. This brings the total number of colors to 6.

Just like the other color variants, the new paint job matches the frame. Apple has also made available accessories that match the new color.

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini were originally available in Black, Blue, Green, Red, and White when they launched last year. The two devices have OLED displays, Apple A14 bionic chips, dual rear cameras, and 4GB of RAM.

Last year, Apple iPhone 11 topped the charts on the best-selling smartphones during the first half. Later, the device went on to be one of the most shipped smartphones for the entire year as well. Today, Counterpoint Research has come up with a report for the global Top 10 best-selling models for January 2021, and Apple dominates the list yet again with iPhone 12 at the top.

As per the report, Apple iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max accounted for 71% of Apple’s entire sales for the month and occupied the first three positions in the Top 10 list. As reported earlier, the demand was high for the 5G Apple devices due to a late launch in 2020.

The yesteryear iPhone 11 is still at the fourth spot and this isn’t that surprising considering the device is still a value for money for Apple lovers. Also, the report says that 1/3rd of Apple’s total sales comes from the US.

Apple also has two more devices on the list and one of them is the iPhone 12 mini, yes you heard it right. Reports said that Apple could discontinue the mini version by Q2 but look like it has garnered some sales in January. The other iPhone model is the iPhone SE 2020.

The Top-10 list is once again shared only by Samsung and Xiaomi apart from Apple. We have Redmi 9A and Redmi 9 in the fifth and sixth spots. The report says that the sub $150 phones accounted for 25% of Xiaomi’s total sales for January.

Talking about Samsung, the Galaxy A21s and the Galaxy A31, which recently got price cuts in India, occupy the seventh and ninth spot respectively. Lastly, the report says that Xiaomi is growing gradually in the MEA region while Samsung is looking to attract more HONOR with its Galaxy A devices.

That being said, with more 5G mid-range devices launching in the coming months, we can expect them to dominate the Top 10 list this year.

Apple is expected to offer compensation to Samsung Display, the former’s supplier of OLED panels, over a shortfall in orders for displays, as per industry sources close to the matter.

Previously, we had reported on Samsung Display’s shipments for the month of January 2021, which fell by 9 percent month on month to 45 million units. One of the primary reasons for this decline was the lackluster sales of the Cupertino based giant’s iPhone 12 mini. Due to this, Apple had adjusted its production of its iPhone 12 series, with overall production falling by about 20 percent in the first half of this year as iPhone 12 mini units being responsible for the majority of these cuts.

At the moment, the South Korean display maker is the company’s sole supplier of 5.4 inch OLED panels for the iPhone 12 minis, which is the smallest variant of the latest lineup. Now, sources from within the industry believe that Apple will may have to pay a penalty of sorts to Samsung once again, as orders did not meet the minimum required quantity.

As per previous reports, the iPhone maker apparently paid the South Korean tech giant an estimated 648 million US Dollars back in 2019 and about 1 billion US Dollars in 2020 over subpar orders of Samsung Display’s OLED panels. One source stated that “It is uncertain whether Apple would pay a penalty to Samsung Display, but considering its contract history and sluggish sales of the iPhone 12 mini, it is likely that Apple will compensate Samsung Display.”

Market research firm Omdia has published a report on most shipped smartphones in 2020. As per the report, only three brands made it to the top 10, just like 2019. These companies were none other than Apple, Samsung, and Xiaomi.

According to the chart released by Omdia, the iPhone 11 was the most shipped smartphone in 2020 with 64.8 million units in shipments and $754 ASP (Average Selling Price). For those unaware, this handset’s predecessor (iPhone XR) topped the list in 2019 but the units were less at 46.3 million and the ASP was a bit more at $777.

Further, the second, third, seventh, and tenth positions were also occupied by Apple with the 2020 iPhone SE (24.2 million), iPhone 12 (23.3 million), iPhone 12 Pro Max (16.8 million), and iPhone 12 Mini (14.8 million). The ASP of these models were $451, $896, $1,232, and $796 respectively.

Interestingly, the iPhone 12 Mini shipped more than the iPhone 12 Pro although numerous reports stated poor sales. The latter phone is not even included in Omdia’a top 10 chart.

Further, with Apple sitting in five places, Samsung captured four positions. The South Korean tech giant’s Galaxy A51 ($269), Galaxy A21s ($192), Galaxy A01 ($115), and Galaxy A11 ($158) came fourth, fifth, sixth, and eighth respectively. The shipments of these devices stood at 23.2 million, 19.4 million, 16.9 million, and 15.3 million units.

Lastly, the Redmi Note 9 Pro by Xiaomi was in ninth place with 15 million units in shipments and $161 ASP.

The Apple iPhone 12 mini sales in the US, the company’s largest market, accounted for just 5 percent of all new sales during the first half of last month. This is likely due to the declining demand for smaller smartphones in the market.

According to a Reuters report, market research from known analytics based firm, Counterpoint Research, found that the demand for the new small flagship has been low. In recent times, handsets with larger displays have become increasingly more popular due to the amount of multimedia entertainment consumed on smartphones (like videos, movies, and other streaming services) growing, especially through major social media platforms.

Earlier this week, we had also reported on the Apple iPhone 12 mini being discontinued soon due to sales being lower than what was initially expected by the Cupertino based giant. Notably, the brand also lowered the production capacity of iPhone 12 mini units and shifted the capacity towards the more popular iPhone 12 Pro model. For those unaware, the company had initially expected the mini being one of the more popular devices in the new series, although, its larger higher end siblings have been performing better in the market.

Counterpoint analyst Tom Kang added that “This is in line with what we’re seeing in the broader global market, where screens under 6 inches now account for around 10 percent share of all smartphones sold.” Apple has yet to comment and clarify on this matter. Apple is apparently considering to stop the production of its iPhone 12 mini. The news arrives after reports pointed at its lackluster sales, which might push the brand to halt its production in the second half of this year.

According to a BusinessInsider report, the Cupertino based giant is reportedly planning on discontinuing its most affordable handset within the iPhone 12 series in Q2 2021. The report is based on a recent forecast note by JP Morgan Chase, with its analyst William Yang stating that the adjusted forecast is for both the iPhone 12 series and the new generation iPhone series launch that is expected to arrive in the second half of this year. Previously, we had reported on Apple lowering production capacity for the iPhone 12 mini in favor of higher end models.

In other words, the company lowered iPhone 12 mini production from 11 million units to 9 million units. The analyst added that “given that demand for the iPhone 12 mini seems to be weak, the supply chain may stop production of the phone in the second quarter of 2021.” He further stated that the sales projection for the iPhone 12 Pro Max has risen by 11 million units, 2 million units for the iPhone 12 Pro, and by 8 million for the iPhone 11.

Yang also predicts that Apple aims to produce 80 million to 90 million units of the upcoming iPhone 13 series. This marks an increase from 76 million units that was scheduled for the current iPhone 12 lineup, which was launched in the second half of last year. The analyst also believes that there might not be an iPhone SE model launching this year as well. The iPhone 12 mini’s less than expected demand is likely the primary reason for the company discontinuing the device, although, this is still an unconfirmed report so take it with a pinch of salt and stay tuned for more updates.

Apple announced the iPhone 12 mini back in October 2020. The device has a Dual-Camera setup unlike the ‘Pro’ variants of the series. Today, DXOMARK, popular for its camera reviews, has posted its Camera test results.

According to the DXOMARK report, iPhone 12 mini gets an overall score of 122. With this, it sits outside the top-10 of the website’s rankings. However, it levels with its sibling, the iPhone 12. To compare, the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max are inside the top-10 with 128 points and 130 points respectively. Currently, the crown is held by HUAWEI Mate40 Pro+ with 139 points.

As mentioned above, the iPhone 12 mini scores similar to the iPhone 12 with 132, 41, and 112 points in Photo, Zoom, and Video categories. Even in performance, the report says that the mini is almost identical to the iPhone 12 with good & accurate results, right exposures in most conditions.

Before we get into the pros and cons, let’s look at the camera specs of the iPhone 12 mini. The device has two camera sensors one of which has OIS:

Apple has apparently shifted some production capacity away from the iPhone 12 mini to the iPhone 12 Pro. The move was done to raise the manufacturing capacity for the higher end iPhone 12 model, which is seeing high demand.

According to a MacRumors report, the Cupertino based giant has reportedly slashed iPhone 12 mini production by two million units to open up production capacity for the iPhone 12 Pro. The company has made the move for the first quarter of this year to improve upon the existing lead times for the high end iPhone 12 model, which is seeing a higher than originally expected demand. At the moment, lead times for the iPhone 12 Pro can last up to 10 days, which is also the highest any model has seen in the past four years.

Just two weeks prior, the lead time for iPhone 12 models reached up to 22 days, before Apple ramped up production as per the company’s supply chain. Although, that shouldn’t bother the company too much as the lower end variant from its latest lineup saw lackluster sales and only managed to capture just 6 percent of the total iPhone 12 series sales during the launch period.

Furthermore, the report also states that the non Pro iPhone 12 models are apparently performing better in China, in comparison to the US. In the Asian country, the iPhone 12 reportedly holds 20.3 percent of the market share, which is a new 18 month high. Similarly, the base model is also said to have achieved the largest base of any iPhone launched in China, at least since the past four years.

The prices of the iPhone 12 Mini start from €800/$700, Sony Xperia 5 II is priced €800/$890, and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G costs about €1600/$1500 (prices vary depending on the market). At the end of the day, the iPhone 12 Mini is a better compact phone for several reasons. It is very compact thanks to its 5.4-inch display, it has a great chipset, very nice camera capabilities, and more interesting minor features. In the video, the two iPhones were subjected to the scratch test on the Mohs scale of hardness. While the Ceramic Shield screens have better shatter resistance, scratches does appear by level 6 but it is less noticeable. Another notable finding was that the iPhones survived a 50 second lighter test, which caused no permanent damaged either unlike any other smartphone with an OLED panel.

This might be another additional protection from the ceramic molecules on the display’s glass, although, that is just a speculation. Overall, the Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 mini performed quite well and received praise for their durability. These handsets didn’t bend either, meaning, the Cupertino based giant placed an emphasis on the devices’ structures and build quality.

A growing number of customers have placed orders for the new iPhone 12 mini and the team at do-it-yourself tech platform, iFixit did a complete teardown of both the European and US models to figure out how Apple managed to include 5G hardware and the conventional iPhone components into such a little beauty.

The battery is the first thing you will notice when taking a look at the visuals from iFixit. The battery of the mini measures up very well, performance-wise to other iPhone models, with 8.57 Wh.

The mini’s battery performance score even surpasses that of the bigger iPhone SE 2020‘s 6.96 Wh, but falls below the 10.78 Wh of the iPhone 12 series, iFixit stat

The Taptic Engine, speakers, and MagSafe ring are all included in the mini in smaller versions to save space. But Apple managed to fit the same-sized camera as its other iPhone models into the mini, which iFixit suggests may have come at the expense of battery life. The phone’s camera has the same ƒ/1.6 wide-angle and ƒ/2.4 ultra-wide-angle cameras found in the iPhone 12, the teardown shows.

Overall, iFixit found the iPhone 12 mini to be quite similar to its larger counterparts: “The iPhone 12 mini is a small phone with big ambitions. We’re surprised by how familiar the internals look compared to other iPhones this year, given the differences in size among them.”

We already got a sneak peek of the iPhone 12 Pro Max and we now introduce the smaller iPhone 12 mini, as both phones make inroads into the market for a share of consumers’ demand. A Chinese blogger who managed to get his hands on a unit of the iPhone 12 Mini, dismantled the device and shared his experience of what he found inside the mini on his blog.

The teardown exercise began with the removal of the screws holding the device at the bottom. Thereafter, the screen was carefully extracted from the panel. Deploying finesse in his tool handling skills and concentration, the blogger navigated the maze of glue and elements to provide a bird’s eye view of the internal components of the device. The 12 mini is fitted with a 2,227mAh battery, which could be a potential drawback of the model, as the battery may be far behind the other models in the 12-series, as reflected by reviews so far.

Other important components of the iPhone 12 mini were also shown from the teardown exercise. It has an L-shaped motherboard with the SIM slot attached. The dual camera modules reveal the main 12MP camera comes with OIS, which is absent in the 12MP ultrawide camera.

The smartphone, as its name implies, is a pocket-sized device that would serve the needs of a segment of the market. Even with its size, the screen is a 5.4-inch Super XDR OLED display with a resolution of 2340x1080pixel. It has display characteristics of 476 ppi and up to 1200 nits of brightness, at par with the other models in the 12-series.

The teardown also revealed that the iPhone 12 mini comes with the same chipset as the iPhone 12. Similarly, there are no differences in the camera system, wireless charging capability, IP68 rating and colour options between the mini and its bigger counterpart.

A few weeks ago, Apple launched its new iPhone 12 series smartphones in the market and this time, the company unveiled four different models — iPhone 12, 12 Mini, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max. Initially, only two phones — 12 and 12 Pro were made available for purchase.

Today, Apple has finally started accepting pre-orders for the other two models — iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max. While the Mini variant’s pricing starts at $699, the Pro Max version starts at $1,099.

The Cupertino-based giant is planning to make the new devices available in multiple countries around the world simultaneously. Pre-orders are launching in more than 50 countries and regions. Customers from the other 25 regions, including Brazil and South Korea, will be able to pre-order these phones from 20th November.

Although the company is taking pre-orders from today, i.e. 6th November, the shipments of the iPhone 12 Mini and 12 Pro Max models will start from 13th November. Monthly payment plans are also available through carriers, Apple Card Monthly Installments, apart from iPhone Upgrade Program and device trade-ins.

The phone is powered by the company’s new A14 Bionic chipset and comes with support for 5G connectivity for the first time on iPhone. Also, the device has a dual-camera system that is aimed at offering better photography results.

These two handsets come with exactly the same panel, while the iPhone 12 Mini has an inferior and smaller display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels (instead of 1170 x 2532 pixels of the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro). These devices do not rely on an in-display fingerprint reader, but they got Face ID thanks to the sensors found in the notch.

Hardware/Software

iPhone 12, 12 Pro, 12 Mini, and 12 Pro Max are powered by the same chipset: the Apple A14 Bionic built at 5 nm with 5G support thanks to an external modem. What changes are the memory configurations: the 12 Pro and Pro Max are actually better because they pack 6 GB of RAM, while you get just 4 GB with iPhone 12 and 12 Mini. Further, with the Pro variants, you can get up to 512 GB of internal storage instead of 256 GB. This may be relevant on a phone without expandable storage.

Camera

Besides packing more RAM, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max have a better camera department. They include two more sensors in their camera modules: a 12 MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom and OIS, and a LiDAR scanner to calculate depth info for AR appliances. With the iPhone 12 and 12 Mini, you get the same main camera and the same ultrawide camera as the Pro variants, but they lack the LiDAR scanner and the telephoto lens. There are no differences when it comes to the front cameras.

Battery

With its bigger 3687 mAh battery, 12 Pro Max is the battery life champion. Right after, we got iPhone 12 and 12 Pro with 2815 mAh, while the iPhone 12 Mini takes the last place with its 2227 mAh battery.

Which iPhone should you go for? It depends on your needs. The 12 Pro Max is naturally the best, but it is costlier. At the Apple Event on October 13, the company brought back the MagSafe Charging technology to the iPhone 12 series. The official MagSafe accessories include a MagSafe Charger, MagSafe Charging Case, and a MagSafe Duo. However, we don’t have the details of the MagSafe Duo yet. Now, it has reportedly been certified in Korea indicating an imminent launch.

As reported by Macrumors, the “MagSafe Duo Charger” has finally hit Korea’s NRRA Certification. NRRA is Korea’s National Radio Research Agency. As per the certification, the model number of the charger is A2458. Interestingly, the charger is made in China and not in Korea. Sadly, the certification doesn’t reveal much here.

MagSafe Duo: what we know so far

Still, Apple’s Press release on its official website still includes the keywords MagSafe Duo Charger in three places along with an image. One of them says the Charger will be available at a “later date”. Anyway, at the event, Apple said that MagSafe Duo Charger can charge both the iPhone and Apple Watch simultaneously. You can take a look at the folding mechanism below:

Besides, the Duo Charger, albeit laying flat, looks very little like the reportedly canceled AirPower. This is because the images show a foldable design with what looks like soft pad material at the surface. Accordingly, Apple also said that the MagSafe Duo is light and portable for travel.

That said, the Charger aside, among the iPhone 12 series, the pre-orders of the remaining iPhone 12 Mini and 12 Pro Max are yet to begin on November 6. Also, Apple has scheduled an event on November 10 where it is expected to unveil the new ARM Macs.

So, there is a possibility that MagSafe Duo might go live around the same time but let’s wait for the official word. We got to know how the MagSafe Charging coil looks inside the iPhone 12 but will have to wait for a bit to know the insides of the MagSafe Duo.

That said, the iPhone 12 Mini is a flagship smartphone but at the moment, it is not known if Redmi will launch a flagship mini smartphone or a budget mini smartphone.

Last month, after the launch of iPad Air 4th Generation, iPad 8th Generation, Apple Watch Series 6, and Apple Watch SE at the “Time Flies” event, AnTuTu Benchmark suggested iPhone 12 Pro Max will come with 6GB RAM. Now, as the latest iPhones are official, the amount of RAM present in all the four iPhone 12 models are out.

According to the popular Chinese benchmarking platform AnTuTu, the newly launched iPhone 12 Pro is the first-ever iPhone to feature 6GB RAM. On the other hand, the regular iPhone 12 comes with 4GB RAM. Although the company has yet to come across any benchmark test of iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 Mini, it does speculate them to have the same 6GB RAM and 4GB RAM as their counterparts.

On the other hand, MacRumors has confirmed that indeed both iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max feature 6GB RAM while iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini sport 4GB RAM. The publication has discovered this information from plist files in Xcode 12.1 beta.

That means unlike last year, the 2020 iPhone Pro models come with more RAM than the standard versions. In case you are not aware of, the entire 2019 iPhone 11 lineup – iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max feature only 4GB RAM.

Yesterday, Apple held a virtual launch event to announce the iPhone 12 series and the HomePod Mini. These devices are heading to multiple markets including India in the near future. Here is all the information on the pricing of the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, and the HomePod Mini for India.

The 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB storage versions of the iPhone 12 mini are priced at Rs 69,900, Rs 74,900, and Rs 84,900, respectively. In the U.S, these variants are priced at $699 (~Rs 37,700), $749 (~Rs 40,400), and $849 (~Rs 45,800), respectively.

The 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB storage models of the iPhone 12 are priced at Rs 79,900, Rs 84,900, and Rs 94,990, respectively. These variants cost $799 (~Rs 43,100), $849 (~Rs 45,800), and $949 (~Rs 51,200), respectively in the U.S. The iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 will be available in colors like white, black, blue, green, and red.

iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max

The iPhone 12 Pro variants such as 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB are priced at Rs 1,19,900, 1,29,900, and Rs 1,49,900. These models are priced at $999 (~Rs 53,900), $1,099 (~Rs 59,300), and $1,299 (~Rs 70,100), respectively in the U.S.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max variants like 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB are priced at Rs 1,29,900, Rs 1,39,900, and 1,59,900. In the U.S., these variants cost $1,099 (~Rs 59,300), $1,199 (~Rs 64,700), and $1,399 (~Rs 75,500), respectively. The iPhone 12 and 12 Pro Max will be available in Graphite, Silver, Gold, and Pacific Blue color editions in India.

The Apple HomePod Mini is priced at Rs 9,000 and it will be up for pre-orders from Nov. 6. It will hit the Indian markets on Nov. 16. The smart speaker can be bought in colors like White and Space Grey. The MagSafe wireless charger that was also announced at the event is priced at Rs 4,500. In the U.S. both products are priced at $99 (~Rs 7,300) and $39 (~Rs 2,900)), respectively.

Apple confirmed that the iPhone 12 will be for up for purchase from Oct. 30. The company is yet to confirm the availability of the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Apple has finally taken the wraps off its 2020 iPhone models. The iPhone 12 series is made up of four different models – iPhone 12, 12 Mini, as well as the more premium iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Apple iPhone 12

The iPhone 12 sees a huge change from the iPhone 11 in that it features a Super XDR OLED as against the IPS LCD display on its predecessor.

The iPhone 12 sports a 6.1-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2532×1170 pixel, 460 ppi and 1200 nits of peak brightness. The display supports on 60Hz refresh rate and in terms of the design, it retains the wide notch iPhones have been known for since the iPhone 12. Apple says the display is covered by what it calls Ceramic Shield, co-developed with Corning. The Ceramic Shield glass is touted as having “4 times better drop performance” and is “tougher than any smartphone glass”.

In terms of the design, the iPhone 12 presents with a thinner and more refined design. It is said to be 11% thinner, 16% lighter and 15% smaller in volume when compared to the iPhone 11.

In this era of 5G, Apple is making a shift to 5G smartphones with the iPhone 12 series. The iPhone 12 arrives with support for mmWave in the US as well as sub-6GHz 5G.

The phone is powered by Apple’s A14 Bionic chipset which has a six-core CPU made up of two powerful and four power-efficient cores. The processor comes with a total of 11.8 billion transistors which is about 40% more than the A13 Bionic from last year. It teams up with a quad-core GPU.

The photography aspect is one area where Apple iPhones have been renowned to perform well. The iPhone 12 features a new wide camera having a brighter aperture of f/1.6. The wide camera promises up to 27% better light capture. There is also an ultrawide shooter onboard. The sensors come with Apple’s new Smart HDR 3 with improved white balance, texture and saturation. In addition, the dual rear cameras and the selfie shooter are capable of shooting Night Mode images.

The iPhone 12 is also equipped with MagSafe which allows the company’s special new wireless charger to connect seamlessly onto the rear of the iPhone 12 and deliver up to 15W wireless charging.

Just as was revealed recently, the iPhone 12 will ship without the Earpods and charger. The retail box is also quite tiny as it uses fewer materials and holds just the iPhone and a USB-C to Lightning cable. The retail box is made entirely from biodegradable materials.

The iPhone 12 comes in an array of colours namely Blue, Green, Product Red, White and Black. The device starts at $799 and will be up for pre-orders from October 16 while it will start shipping on October 23.

Apple iPhone 12 mini

The iPhone 12 mini also joined the fray and it is fingered as having the potential to end up as the star product among the lot. The iPhone 12 mini moniker paints the picture of a diminutive model but it presents with a 5.4-inch Super XDR OLED screen with a resolution of 2340x1080pixel. The display also comes with 476 ppi and up to 1200 nits of brightness just like the other models in the lineup.

In addition to the display configuration which is similar to the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 mini also features the same chipset, camera system, wireless charging, IP68 rating and color options as the bigger iPhone 12.

The iPhone 12 and 12 mini will be available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB storage options. Sales of the iPhone 12 mini will commence on November 6 while it will start shipping on November 13.

The Apple launch event is just hours away but the leaks are yet to stop. Shortly before the event, a last-minute leak has revealed renders of the iPhone 12 series and the HomePod Mini smart speaker.

The leak comes from Evan Blass who posted them on the new social media platform, Voice. The leak shows the aforementioned products in all the color variants they will come in when they launch later today.

iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12

The iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 will come in Black, Blue, Green, Product (RED), and White. The blue variant does look really great and may turn out to be the most popular color option.

The iPhone 12 Mini has a wide notch in the front while the back is home to two cameras. The phone looks a lot like the iPhone 12 with size being the only physical difference. The above images are of the iPhone 12. For the iPhone 12 Mini, just imagine them in a smaller size.

iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max

Just like the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max, the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max are also identical with size being the only distinguishing factor. The notch remains on both devices while on their backs is a triple camera setup. There is also a LiDAR scanner on the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

The two phones will be available in Blue, Gold, Graphite, and Silver. The blue is a much lighter shade than that of the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 but it still looks gorgeous. The above images are of the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

HomePod Mini

We also get an early look at the HomePod Mini which is a smaller version of the HomePod released in 2018. Unlike its older sibling, the HomePod Mini ditches the cylindrical design for a globe-like design with a recessed top and flat bottom.

The top has two buttons – volume up and down – and it glows. The body of the speaker is covered in fabric and it will be available in Space Gray and White.

Apple is also expected to announce a wireless charger today but Evan Blass didn’t leak its renders.

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 12 series tomorrow (October 13) at the “Hi, Speed” event. According to multiple leaks and rumors, the Cupertino-based tech giant will launch four iPhones this year. However, only one of them will be more popular among customers compared to the other three models, as per a new report.

The prediction regarding the popularity of the upcoming iPhone 12 series comes from none other than Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities (via AppleInsider). According to the analyst, the standard 6.1-inch iPhone 12 will outsell the remaining three devices in the series.

It is worth noting that there’s another leak, which claims the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 to start from $699 and $799, instead of the above-mentioned prices. Therefore, we would advise you to take this piece of information with a pinch of salt.

That said, talking about Kuo’s prediction, he says that the iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max will only account for 20% each in terms of shipments this year. On the other hand, the regular iPhone 12 will acquire 40% of the remaining total shipments.

As per the analyst, although the iPhone 12 Mini will be the cheapest of the lots, it won’t be appealing to more customers because of its size. Whereas, the iPhone 12 with a slightly larger screen and not much expensive price tag will be more attractive to customers.

In the past, the costlier iPhone X outsold iPhone 8 models at the launch. However, in the following years, the iPhone XR and iPhone 11 sold more than the iPhone XS and iPhone 11 Pro series.

Since the world economy is severely affected by the pandemic, the prediction by ever-reliable Ming-Chi Kuo sounds right. He also adds that the inclusion of 5G won’t matter to most customers. Hence, we believe that there’s a possibility that people will continue buying last year’s iPhone 11 or the older iPhone XR if Apple does not discontinue them.
