Caviar has just launched new customized models of the iPhone 13 Pro series. While the company has launched a number of iPhones with unique aspects and designs, the latest one might be able to save your life in dire situations.

The Russia based luxury goods maker has unveiled the new Stealth 2.0 series for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max models. For those unaware, the original Stealth custom edition was for privacy conscious users, but with its latest generation, Caviar added an extra feature that could be potentially life saving. The Stealth 2.0 arrives with BR2 Class 2 bulletproof armor that is claimed to be strong enough to withstand gunshots. You read that right, the new custom iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max are capable of stopping bullets.

To achieve this impressive feat, the brand partnered up with NPOTCIT, a firm that specializes in attack helicopters and armored vehicles. NPOTCIT is behind the custom iPhone 13 Pro’s bulletproof body. Furthermore, the Stealth 2.0 removes the front and rear cameras from the iPhone, which in turn also disables Face ID as well. In other words, the custom iPhone 13 Pro do not feature any biometric security. Although, whether the camera trade off for potentially saving one’s life is worthwhile is still up for debate.

According to Caviar, the removal of the cameras also ensures that you can take the device in areas where cameras are banned. Additionally, a YouTube video of a person firing at the iPhone 13 Pro Stealth 2.0 was also shared. While the device did become unusable after taking the bullet, it also managed to stop the bullet that ensures that users would escape with just a bruise. The brand only plans on making 99 units of this model as well, with the most affordable variant starting from 6,370 US Dollars and maxing out at 7,980 US Dollars.

You most likely have seen someone put tape over their computer’s webcam when not in use as a security measure. Heck, manufacturers have now even begun putting camera shutters on some of their devices such as laptops and smart displays. However, when it comes to smartphones, the best you can do is to manage your permission settings and choose which apps have access to your camera or you can just buy a smartphone without cameras such as the Caviar iPhone 12 Pro Stealth.

This custom iPhone 12 Pro by the Russian company has no rear cameras while the front-camera, save for the infrared camera for Face ID, is disabled. Caviar says that this “Non-cameras iPhone 12 Pro Stealth” is for those who want a higher level of privacy, probably someone who works in a highly-secure place where smartphones with cameras are not allowed.

The iPhone 12 Pro Stealth comes in two variants. There is one which has its rear covered in “hardened titanium with vertical guilloche on durable black laser coating” and there is the gold version which has a PVD gold coating on the hardened titanium. Caviar says that the iPhone 12 Pro Stealth starts at $4990.

While a smartphone with no cameras may be surprising for a lot of people, it turns out that it is not unusual. Apparently, manufacturers used to make non-camera versions of their phones. GSMArena cites the example of the 2015 BlackBerry Classic Non Camera which drops the 2MP front camera and 8MP camera of the regular version. A much older example is the Nokia E51 camera-free which doesn’t have the 2MP rear camera of the standard model.

It is no surprise why smartphones without cameras are not common. It caters to a very small percentage of users and it will be easier for an organization to specifically request phones without cameras from a manufacturer than for a manufacturer to announce a phone without a camera.
