The Apple iPhone 12 series has already seen great success in the smartphone market. But now, a new report has revealed that the company’s shipments of the 2020 iPhone lineup have already crossed 100 million units.

According to a Counterpoint Research report, the Cupertino based giant’s iPhone 12 lineup sales have already surpassed the 100 million mark in just seven months of its launch. Furthermore, the brand managed to achieve this milestone two months earlier than its predecessor, the iPhone 11 series. Notably, the US was a key market, with the region accounting for 40 percent of the global iPhone 12 Pro Max sales alone between the months December 2020 and April 2021.

Apple also saw a rise in the average selling price for its iPhones during this time, with its top end model the iPhone 12 Pro Max starting from 1,099 US Dollars. The report further added that the company’s revenue from the iPhone 12 series was more by 22 percent than the iPhone 11 within the first seven months of its launch.

Although, the various other smartphone OEMs also saw growth overall since the market saw frantic buying from consumers post the Coronavirus pandemic. On the other hand, the overall market saw a sales decline of 12.5 percent last year. Counterpoint also added that the iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 12, and iPhone 12 Pro models also held the top three spots in the smartphone market, with the three devices alone accounting for 22 percent of all sales.

According to an AppleInsider report, the Cupertino based giant has increased its orders with its assembly partners for the first quarter of next year. The iPhone 12 series has seen great success so far in the market, with the momentum of demand expected to continue forward in the following year. Furthermore, this demand is expected to remain consistent for a while into 2021 as well.

As per the analyst’s projection, the number of shipments is expected to be around 51 million units in the first quarter of 2021. This figure is up from previous reports, which had believed the figure to be around 47 million units. The increase in shipments is primarily expected to be for the base iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The lower end iPhone 12 mini is estimated to have its shipments remain relatively unchanged during this period.

An important market for Apple is China, with the data findings revealing that over 6 million units of the iPhone 12 series were shipped within the region in November 2020 alone. This figure accounted for around 20 percent of the total market share, which also marks a new high across multiple years. Additionally, the company s currently targetting 79 million units to be manufactured, up from 13 percent year on year.

But due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the company had to delay the announcement by an entire month.

Despite Macs and AirPods seeing an increase in sales during this period with the overall revenue and profit surpassing expectations, iPhone sales had plummeted by 20.7 percent down to 26.4 billion US Dollars. While lower sales had been anticipated, the holdback from consumers right before the launch of the new iPhones turned out to be a lot worse than what was initially projected, especially in China, where smartphone users already have access to 5G networking.

But apart from the initial shock, the company has outperformed its own expectations. In 2020, its product launches and services were also received fairly well. Tim Cook, Apple Chief Executive stated that, “5G is a once-in-a-decade kind of opportunity. The Apple iPhone 12 series will be the company’s 2020 flagship series. It is the company’s first 5G lineup and a new report has suggested that the series will reach up to 68 million units in shipment in the second half of 2020, which is lower than its predecessor.

According to a DigiTimes report, the next generation of iPhones will reach a total of 63 to 68 million units in the second half of this year. This is a fall of about 5 million units in comparison to the previous generation’s iPhone 11 series that shipped back in 2019. The report arrives after projections were made that the production and the official launch of the new iPhone series will likely be delayed by four to six weeks. In other words, fall behind schedule due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

However, there is still hope as it is also possible that the extra unemployment benefits from the US government might be able to affect the actual sales of the iPhone 12 by as much as 10 million units in H2 2020. Although, with WeChat, a Chinese multi purpose chatting app being banned from China’s App Store, the overall shipments of all iPhone products could fall by nearly 10 percent in 2020. This is lower than the original estimation of around 190 million units being shipped.

Unfortunately, it is still too early to tell how the new Apple iPhone series performs in the market. The company is gearing up for its launch despite various production delays, but the Cupertino based giant’s first iPhone with 5G networking might just be something many are looking forward too. Apple‘s upcoming 2020 flagship iPhone 12 series have been in the news for quite a while. An earlier rumour had hinted that the company will shift the release date for the models from the usual September release date. Apple has now officially confirmed that it would shift things by a few weeks.

This was made known during the tech giant’s earnings call for the second quarter of the year (via) which is the company’s third fiscal quarter of 2020. According to Luca Maestri, Apple’s Chief Financial Officer, despite the sales of last year’s new generation iPhones going on sale in September, this year the company projects supply will be “available a few weeks later”.

The company didn’t give any reason for this slight delay but it may not be unconnected with the COVID 19 pandemic which slowed down production in several factories across Asia including those which supply Apple components used for the iPhones.

Qualcomm, which is expected to supply the modem Apple will use on the iPhone 12 had earlier hinted that the company will delay shipment of the iPhone 12 to October 2020.

The delay in shipment is expected to impact the company’s financial result for the third quarter of the year since the new models will completely miss it, not being out before the end of September.
