Apple launched its iPhone 13 lineup in September 2021. The lineup featured four devices: iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max. As per the latest reports, the American tech company will start the sale of refurbished smartphones from the iPhone 13 lineup in the European subcontinent, specifically in the UK, Spain, Italy and Germany. 

This is the first time that Apple is selling refurbished units of the aforementioned smartphones on its online store as part of its Certified Refurbished program. It is worth noting that the standard iPhone 13 isn’t available on the website just yet; however, it might be back in stock soon enough. The devices will be sold with a 15% discount on their market price. Furthermore, Apple will expand the sale of refurbished iPhone 13 devices to the US as well. The Apple US website has the purchase options listed there, but they are still greyed out, indicating that Apple will do so soon enough. 

Customers who purchase the refurbished iPhones will receive unlocked SIM-free devices with new batteries. The phones will have a new box with a USB-C to lightning cable and will be covered by Apple’s one-year limited warranty. The iPhones will also be eligible for extended AppleCare+ coverage. In words of assurance, Apple stated that the refurbished handsets would be cleaned and tested thoroughly so as to make them indistinguishable from brand-new devices. The company has stopped the sale of Apple iPhone 13 Pro devices since the launch of the iPhone 14 Pro, which makes refurbished phones the only remaining option for customers. At the time of launch, the iPhone 13 lineup featured Apple’s A15 Bionic chip, which holds up against its competition even to this day.

Apple released the new iPhone 14 Pro and it went on sale all around the world a few days ago. Unlike the previous generation, with this new one, there are several important differences from the previous model. Elements of the design change, as well as hardware components, cameras, and more. That is the reason why a lot of people are very interested in a comparison between the new iPhone 14 Pro and its predecessor iPhone 13 Pro, now available at more affordable street prices. Design

There is an important improvement in the design of the iPhone 14 Pro. The notch has been replaced by Dynamic Island: a pill shaped hole in the display which contains the sensors for 3D facial recognition and the front camera. Dynamic Island is also very useful to display important information, it can be used as a notification center or a small secondary display to make everything happening on the phone clearer. Instead, the notch of the iPhone 13 Pro does not have any utility in the display of the phone. On the other hand, the iPhone 13 Pro is slightly more compact and slightly thinner because it packs a smaller battery. For the rest, these two devices are not so different: the camera modules are similar and even the rest of their bodies are similar to each other.

Display

The displays of these two phones do not differ too much and they have almost the same specifications. They are Super Retina XDR OLED with a diagonal of 6.1 inches, a Full HD+ resolution of 1170 x 2532 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, the HDR10 certification, and Dolby Vision support. The only important difference between these displays is the brightness: the iPhone 14 Pro is able to go up to 2,000 nits, while its predecessor has a peak brightness of 1,200 nits. These phones do not sport fingerprint readers for authentication, unlike Android phones. Instead, they support 3D facial recognition with Face ID technology. The sensors for Face ID, as already mentioned, are placed in the Dynamic Island placed centrally on the upper part of the display.

Specs & Software

The iPhone 14 Pro comes with an upgraded processor if compared to the previous generation. It has an Apple A16 Bionic built with a 4 nm production process and with an octa-core architecture. The mobile platform is composed of two Everest performance cores running at a max frequency of 3.46 GHz, four Sawtooth energy efficient cores running at a max frequency of 2.02 GHz, and an Apple proprietary GPU with 5 cores. Alongside the chipset, there are 6 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of internal storage, depending on the chosen configuration you can choose between 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB. You can get the same memory configurations with the iPhone 13 Pro, but with an inferior processor. We are referring to the Apple A15 Bionic, built with a 5 nm production process and an octa-core architecture. This chipset packs two Avalanche performance cores running at a max frequency of 3.23 GHz, four Blizzard cores running at 1.82 GHz, and an Apple GPU with 5 cores.

Camera

The iPhone 14 Pro is even equipped with a superior camera. Its main sensor has a resolution of 48 MP and it is the first 48 MP sensor ever seen on an iPhone, with OIS support and phase detection autofocus. Instead, the iPhone 13 Pro has a 12 MP main camera. The secondary sensors of these phones are the same: a 12 MP ultrawide lens and a 12 MP ultrawide camera, as well as a TOF 3D LiDAR scanner (but with different focal apertures). Even the front cameras are the same 12 MP snapper but with a different focal aperture.

Battery

The iPhone 14 Pro packs a bigger battery: 3200 mAh against just 3095 mAh of the iPhone 13 Pro. Alongside the more efficient 4 nm chipset, it provides longer battery life. The charging technologies are the same, including MagSafe which can also be used to connect external accessories such as battery cases.

Price

The iPhone 14 Pro starts from $999 or €1,200 (prices vary depending on the market), while the iPhone 13 Pro used to start from $899/€1189, but it is way more affordable now, thanks to street prices.

iPhone 13 series

One of the most anticipated deals for an Apple product is undoubtedly for the iPhone 13 lineup. It is last year’s flagship model that has gone on discount following the announcement of the iPhone 14 series. From what we know so far, the base iPhone 13 is set to go on sale on Amazon, where its price will drop from 65,900 INR for the 128GB base variant to just 51,650 INR thanks to its 14,250 INR exchange offer. Although, Flipkart is expected to offer this device for around 50,000 INR during its Big Billion Days sale, which begins on 23rd September.

Notably, the latter e-commerce platform is also expected to offer some notable discounts on theiPhone 13 Proand iPhone 13 Pro Max as well. The iPhone 13 Pro will reportedly be available for purchase for under 90,000 INR for the time in India, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max will also drop below 100,000 INR for the first time as well. Furthermore, we can also expect some additional bank offers as well.

iPhone 12 & iPhone 12 mini

Another iPhone generation to get a discount is the iPhone 12 series. Amazon India has just teased the iPhone 12 price to fall as low as under 40,000 INR during its Great Indian Festival sale that will also kick off on September 23. The smartphone was originally launched for 79,900 INR back in 2020 but was lowered to 50,000 INR during last year’s sale. This easily makes it a worthwhile consideration when compared to other Android options under 40,000 INR.

Similarly, even the iPhone 12 mini is going on discount during this sale season. Interestingly enough, it is also teased to be priced under 40,000 INR. But with the iPhone 12 having a similar price tag, we can expect the pricing to be slightly below it as well. So for those looking for a compact flagship handset experience, this could be a worthwhile option for you.

iPhone 11

The last iPhone model to go on sale is the iPhone 11 which was launched back in 2019. The device already retails for a lowered price tag of 33,999 INR on Flipkart, but the Big Billion Days Sale brings this price even lower down to just 28,999 INR. Despite being a couple of years old now, the device should still offer capable performance as well.

M1 MacBook Air

The M1 MacBook Air is by far one of the best offerings during this time of sale. Yesterday, Apple officially unveiled the iPhone 14 series at its ‘Far Out Event’. The latest iPhones were accompanied by AirPods Pro 2nd Gen, Apple Watch Series 8, and Apple Watch Ultra. Unsurprisingly, the American tech giant also announced the discontinuation of select older iPhones.

Just like every year, the incoming Pro models have replaced the outgoing Pro models in Apple’s iPhone lineup. In other words, the company has officially discontinued the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max from 2021.

The iPhone 13 Pro series brought some major upgrades. It introduced features like a 120Hz LTPO display, an improved triple camera system, much better battery life, and more.

Further, the firm discontinues the iPhone 11 from 2019. It was the first base iPhone with a dual-camera setup, 4GB RAM, 18W wired charging support, and more.

Lastly, Apple also discontinues the iPhone 12 Mini from 2020. It was the first Mini iPhone, one of the first 5G iPhones, and the most affordable iPhone with an OLED display at the launch.

Therefore, the current Apple iPhone family looks something like this.

Apple leads the race when it comes to customers switching between two smartphone brands. According to new data from US carrier channels, 73 percent of the representatives said that the Cupertino-based tech giant gains the most switchers while only 16 percent goes to South Korean brand Samsung. 

43 percent of the representatives said that they would switch from Android to iOS on the basis of software while 51 percent added that the overall rate of switching between the two OS was about even. Only 5 percent chose Android over iOS. This indicates that Apple is getting a lion’s share of smartphone brand switchers. The iPhone recorded a 66 percent market share for AT&T, 60 percent at Verizon, and 57 percent at T-Mobile respectively. This is said to be better than the previous years. 

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro series that debuted in October last year are still selling better than the past generations of Apple’s smartphones. Unfortunately, the sales numbers remain unknown. Across all carrier channels, the iPhone 13 was the top model with a 25 percent share in May followed by the iPhone 13 Pro Max with 16 percent and iPhone 13 Pro with 13 percent. The iPhone 13 Mini clocked a 2 percent share whereas other iPhones accounted for 4 percent. Carrier representatives added that the iPhone SE 3 sales were weak. 

Apple is expected to launch its next-generation flagship iPhone 14 series in September this year.

While the Apple iPhone 13 Pro series arrived with ProMotion display that had 120Hz refresh rate, it seems that this year’s iPhone 14 Pro models will also feature this display technology along with some upgrades that would expand its functionalities.

For those unaware, the iPhone 13 Pro series sported LTPO panels that had variable refresh rates that allowed for better power efficiency. The ProMotion displays was basically able to preserve battery life by only producing fast frame rates when needed. However, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max’s ProMotion displays only supported refresh rates between 10Hz and 120Hz.

On the other hand, offerings from brands like Oppo and Samsung can drop as low as 1Hz. Known display analyst Ross Young believes that the next gen iPhones will use a ProMotion panel that can also drop to 1Hz refresh rate as well. This would mean that the iPhone maker might soon be able to offer better features as well as improves its battery life on the upcoming smartphones as well. One of these better features, include the Always On Display.

An example of this being Apple Watch Series 7 models that also use LTPO displays that enables the smartwatch to offer up to 18 hours of battery life. This was higher than previous entries in this series, despite offering ALways on Display. In other words, next gen iPhone 14 Pro series might soon also offer this feature, which will help display information like time, date, and notifications without turning on the display.

New Redmi Note 11 series for international markets

After debuting the Redmi Note 11 lineup in China in November, Xiaomi finally brought the family to international on January 26. However, the series for global markets include totally different devices, namely Redmi Note 11, Redmi Note 11S, Redmi Note 11 Pro, and Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G.

Out of these four, the Redmi Note 11S offers the best value for its asking price. Although it looks and has the same display as the vanilla model, its specs are more comparable to the Pros.

Smartphone market observed multiple records

The global smartphone market grew for the first time in 2021 since 2017. Counterpoint Research revealed that the shipments reached 1.39 billion units by growing 4% YoY.

The Indian smartphone, in particular, grew 12%YoY last year by registering 162 million units in shipment. On the other hand, the Chinese market shipped 333 million units and incremented by only 1%.

Finally, pivoting to the budget segment at the right time (ahead of LG’s demise), OnePlus saw an insane 524% YoY growth in the US in Q4 2021.

iPhone clones from Gionee and Blackview

Gionee 13 Pro went official last week with an uncanny iPhone 13 resemblance and HarmonyOS. However, it has entry-level specs like an HD+ display (LCD) and a UNISOC T310 chipset. For just  ¥529 (483), it doesn’t sound like a bad deal after all.

At around the same time, Blackview A95 also got announced with an iPhone 13 Pro-like design. Its main highlights other than design include a MediaTek Helio P70 SoC, 6.5-inch HD+ display (LCD), and a 4,380mAh battery.

Face ID now works with a mask 

After two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, iPhones can be finally unlocked with masks on. However, this feature is currently only available in the beta channel. Also, it requires iPhone 12 or newer models.

Additionally, Apple is working on a new feature that will turn iPhones into POS machines. This feature will be reportedly useful for micro-merchants.

MediaTek Kompanio 1380 is a new chip for Chromebooks

MediaTek announced a new SoC called Komapnio 1380 for premium Chromebooks on January 26. This 6m chip arrives with an octa-core CPU consisting of four ARM Cortex-A78 cores clocked at up to 3GHz and a five-core ARM Mali-G57 GPU.

It supports up to 4K 60Hz display, AV1 decoding, WiFi 6//6E, and Bluetooth 5. The chipset will make its global debut inside the Acer Chromebook Spin 513, which is scheduled to hit the shelves in June.

HUAWEI P50 Pocket reaches global markets alongside HUAWEI P50 Pro

On January 26, Huawei announced the arrival of HUAWEI P50 Pro and HUAWEI P50 Pocket to multiple international markets like Asia Pacific, Middle East, Africa, Europe, and South America.

The 4G-only premium handsets from the once world’s largest smartphone brand sport the same set of features as the variant sold in China, except for software. The global editions of these devices run EMUI 12 without GMS (Google Mobile Services) instead of HarmonyOS.

Despite their shortcomings in terms of software, Huawei is charging a whopping €1,199 for the HUAWEI P50 Pro (8GB + 256GB) and €1,299 for the HUAWEI P50 Pocket (8GB + 256GB). There’s also a Premium Edition of the latter phone with a unique design and 12GB + 512GB memory configuration for €1,599.

JioPhone 5G could be Jio’s first 5G smartphone

A report on January 25 disclosed that the Indian carrier Jio is working on its first 5G smartphone called JioPhone 5G. This device is expected to go official in June with much better specs than the poorly received JioPhone Next.

The handset is said to come with a 6.5-inch HD+ display (HD+), 13MP (wide) + 2MP (macro) dual camera setup, 8MP selfie camera, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 SoC, 4GB RAM, 32GB storage, 5,000mAh battery, and 18W fast charging.

OnePlus phones might run H₂OOS in the near future

On January 27, popular Indian tech influencer Mukul Sharma tweeted that the unified operating system of OPPO and OnePlus could be called H₂OOS. Since his claim is based on a trademark filing by OnePlus, he could be wrong.

Anyway, the H₂OOS (Water OS) trademark is interesting as it combines the names of OxygenOS (O₂) and the discontinued HydrogenOS (H₂OS). The name has no mention of ColorOS, which the software will be actually based on.

Furthermore, a couple of days before this tweet, a tipster stated that the OnePlus 10 Ultra could debut in H2 2022 as the brand’s first superphone or ultra-premium smartphone. The device is said to house OPPO’s MariSilicon NPU.

HONOR to showcase new products at MWC 2022

HONOR has confirmed to attend MWC 2022. The company has scheduled a launch conference for February 28. The event will kickstart at 1 PM CET.

The brand is teasing the launch of the new Magic series with a quote ‘The Power of Magic’. Unfortunately, nothing is known about the upcoming lineup of handsets.

Micromax IN Note 2 and vivo Y75 5G  debut in India

Micromax launched the IN Note 2 on January 25 as the successor of IN Note 1 for ₹13,490 (4GB + 64GB). The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra-lookalike phone arrives with a 6.43-inch FHD+ AMOLED display, MediaTek Helio G95 chipset, 48MP (wide) + 5MP (ultra-wide) + 2MP (macro) + 2MP (depth) quad-camera setup, 16MP selfie camera, side-mounte fingerprint sensor, Android 11, 5,000mAh battery, and 30W fast charging.

Chinese handset maker vivo debuted a new budget 5G smartphone called vivo Y75 5G in India on January 27. For ₹21,990 (8GB  +128GB), the phone offers a 6.58-inch FHD+ display (LCD), MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC, 50MP (wide) + 2MP (macro) + 2MP (depth) triple camera setup, 16MP selfie camera, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, Android 12, 5,000mAh battery, and 18W fast charging.

At the launch of Xiaomi 12 series, Lei Jun compared the Xiaomi 12 series with the iPhone 13 series many times. Although we’ve seen a lot of brands compare with the iPhones for references, it’s actually the first time that Xiaomi developed a complete phone line against Apple. The Xiaomi 12 Pro is undoubtedly the most striking model in the series, while its rival, the iPhone 13 Pro also happens to be the most popular iPhone of the year.

So today we’ve brought them together for a camera comparison, and let’s find out why is Xiaomi so proud to take on a rival that costs nearly twice as much as it does. 

Well, let’s start with their camera setups. 

The iPhone 13 Pro is equipped with a triple-lens rear camera system, including a 26mm equivalent f/1.5 primary lens, an 13mm f/1.8 ultra-wide-angle lens, and another 77mm f/2.8 3x telephoto lens. All three cameras feature 12MP resolution. On the other hand, the Xiaomi 12 Pro seems to have a more capable camera setup on paper. It also features a similar triple-lens combination, and all three lenses feature 50MP high resolution, including its main camera, a 2x telephoto camera, and another ultra-wide lens.

Now let’s start with their main cameras. It’s quite surprising that the Xiaomi 12 Pro applies a more aggressive color tuning, leading to samples having a more vivid color compared to what we see in real life. While the iPhone 13 Pro is good at presenting true colors along with a good white balance that reflects the actual environment. But on the other hand, the Xiaomi 12 Pro is much easier to present brighter colors with high saturation, which at first glance, is more eye-catching. 

Under most conditions, the Xiaomi phone’s samples seem to have higher contrast, but if we look closely, they actually have a little gap over dark areas. Especially for high-contrast shooting, both of them didn’t really have good noise control for dark scenes.

Though the Xiaomi 12 Pro’s main camera supports a 50MP original resolution, it didn’t bring much benefit in terms of image clarity with sharper detail when compared to the iPhone’s samples. 

Another common detail shared by these two models is the random lens flares. When shooting towards a light source, we experienced a similar bright reflection on these two phones. To avoid that, you can adjust the camera angle when shooting or use an editing app like Snapseed to remove it. But we also heard that the latest iOS can automatically remove lens flare from photos in certain conditions. Well, obviously, it’s not available yet.

Xiaomi 12 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro – Ultra-Wide Cameras

As for their ultra-wide lenses, we have to say both of them have very good picture detail and the image is clear and sharp. Although we can tell that the Xiaomi model is slightly better than the iPhone 13 Pro, the difference is really hard to notice without careful comparison. 

The color preference of the two models’ wide-angle lenses is almost the same as what we found on their main cameras. The Xiaomi model’s color is still bright and high-saturated, while the iPhone’s is still more realistic. 

And both of them didn’t show much fringing, which is better than most phones’ wide-angle lenses. 

Xiaomi 12 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro – Telephoto (2X,3X,5X)

As for their telephoto cameras, since they didn’t feature the same optical focal length. For Xiaomi 12 Pro, it supports 2x optical zoom, while the iPhone 13 Pro offers a 3x optical zoom. So for 2x shooting, the Xiaomi model with a 50MP sensor no doubt presents a purer and sharper image with better noise control. Similarly, the iPhone model offers a better color presentation with richer detail over 3x shooting. But personally, I prefer the iPhone’s telephoto solution. Because it’s not really far behind over the 2x shooting, but meanwhile, the 3x optical zooming supports better telephotography at 3x and above. For example, if we shot at 5x zoom on both models, the iPhone 13 Pro could provide a cropped picture with less image loss and better detail as well. But on the other hand, if you do a lot of portrait shooting, I would say that the optical 2x of the Xiaomi model is an excellent option, even better than the iPhone’s 3x.

Then we moved on to night shooting. After comparing night shots, this is our conclusion: the improved night performance of the iPhone 13 Pro still doesn’t compare to the Xiaomi 12 Pro.

We all know that in the past few years, some Android phones have been ahead of iPhones in terms of night imaging. Although we can see that on the iPhone 13 Pro, the gap keeps narrowing, the Xiaomi 12 Pro still leading the round of night shooting. 

Even though we shot under the auto mode, these two models both could boost the imaging once the AI recognized the night scenes. Apart from the auto mode, they also provide a more aggressive night mode. To access the better night effect, you need to adjust the iPhone’s night effect to the max option, while for the Xiaomi 12 Pro, you have to shift to the night mode.

But this time, I have to admit that the Xiaomi 12 Pro’s camera also provides a more user-friendly experience for night shooting. Thanks to the optimized MIUI software, its night shooting experience has never been this fast and smooth. It only requires us to wait up to 3-second processing under extremely low light conditions. While on the right side is the sample shot on the iPhone, taking 10 seconds for processing, but as you can see, Xiaomi’s sample taking shorter processing is even brighter with sharper detail.

For the main camera, the Xiaomi 12 Pro’s night mode has a better color presentation with a purer image. While it seems that the iPhone’s sample got blurry for less noise, which resulted in a bit more loss of darkness detail. In most night scenes, the Xiaomi model’s auto mode already performed very well, and with night mode on, the photos tend to get a relatively balanced exposure, while also slightly improving image purity. 

As for their ultra-wide lenses, the gap is even wider and the iPhone’s performance is hardly satisfactory in night scenes. Its brightness could be over-exposed and the darkness could be a bit noisy.

And both of their telephoto cameras can also apply the night mode.

When using auto mode at extremely low-light conditions, even though we zoom in to 2x on the Xiaomi 12 Pro, or 3x on the iPhone 13 Pro, the working lens would still be the main one instead of the telephoto camera. In this case, we could only have photos that cropped from the main lens, which could be blurry and noisy, no matter for the iPhone or the Xiaomi model. To have nice night zoom photos on these two phones, you need to shift to the night mode on the Xiaomi model, or adjust the night effect to the max level for the iPhone. The photos would look much better. 

So please remember to do what we suggested above if you want to shoot nice photos with their telephoto lenses. 

And no doubt the Xiaomi 12 Pro is better at 2x night shooting and the iPhone 13 Pro offers better 3x night photos since they each use a separate telephoto lens. But for the Xiaomi 12 Pro, due to the lack of OIS anti-shaking support, you may feel a bit difficult to hold the phone firmly and get a clear image.

As for video shooting, the cinematic mode on the iPhone is the most impressive feature that we’ve seen for mobile filming. And it did work pretty well with excellent subject portrait focus and blurring effect. But it’s not perfect now. Like the sample, we have shown in our video review, added at the start. It by far only supports 1080P resolution with the main lens and telephoto lens, and the edge recognition wasn’t accurate enough when shooting in complicated scenarios. While for the Xiaomi Phone, the new focusing feature, Cyber-focus, also works well and offers fast focusing in video shooting. It supports up to 4k resolution but is only available on the main lens and 2x telephoto lens. And note that the Xiaomi phone’s wide-angle lens doesn’t support focus tracking in shooting photos or videos. As for video colors, as you can see, the iPhone probably is still the best among all the smartphones. And it seems that the iPhone has slightly better stabilization when filming. 

So that’s all about the cameras on the two phones that we want to share with you. The Xiaomi 12 Pro is pretty impressive in taking photos. Especially for night shooting, the phone is much smarter than its predecessors and the whole camera software brings a really smooth and stable experience. There weren’t any crashes either, like we saw on the Xiaomi 11.

On the other hand, the iPhone 13 Pro is still one of the best mobile filming machines. For software, it has a clean and intuitive interface that allows most users to enjoy taking videos with their phones.

In a new battery test shared by DXOMARK on Monday, the Apple iPhone 13 Pro bagged a score of 76, beating the likes of the Motorola Edge 20 Pro, Galaxy S21 Ultra, and the OnePlus 9 Pro, all with much larger batteries. It still failed to beat the iPhone 13 Pro Max though, which currently ranks third in DXOMARK’s battery charts with a score of 89.

The phone, with its 3,095mAh battery, has managed to achieve more than 2 days of ‘autonomy’ with moderate use. Autonomy is what DXOMARK calls a comprehensive range of tests for measuring battery life in all kinds of real-life scenarios.

Another test was ‘on the go’ that measures battery life while traveling. It makes a lot of sense to dedicate a test to usage while commuting since there are multiple extra demands that eat up battery life, such as the continuous signaling associated with cellphone network selection. In this, the iPhone 13 Pro exhibited “better-than-average performance than Ultra-Premium devices.”

As for charging, the iPhone 13 Pro needs 1 hour 34 minutes to arrive at a 100% charge showing on the battery level indicator, but an additional 9 minutes to get its 3095 mAh battery completely charged. Users will be better off charging to 80% in most scenarios as that only takes 49 minutes.

But it’s efficiency where the iPhone 13 Pro Max truly shines, with its battery exhibiting low consumption across almost every use case. In fact, the consumption is so well managed that the phone has the lowest discharge current for WiFi video streaming and video playback in DXOMARK’s entire database.

Apple launched the iPhone 13 comprising of iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max in September 2021. Since their release, these smartphones have been selling quite well worldwide. In fact, according to a research note, the Cupertino-based tech giant sold millions of them in the holiday season alone.

A research note by analyst Daniel Ives of Wedbush (via PhoneArena) says that Apple sold more than 40 million units of iPhone 13 models in the 2021 holiday season. This note was published by Philip Elmer-DeWitt.

The same note also predicts that Apple would soon hit the $3 trillion market cap. For the unaware, Apple just became the world’s first publicly-traded company to reach the $3 trillion market cap yesterday.

Analyst forecasts that the iPhone 13 sales will continue to grow in 2022. That’s because the tech firm could not meet the demand in Q4 2021. The demand outstripped supply by a whopping 12 million units in the last quarter. Hence, the supply will trickle down in the next two quarters (Q1 2022 and Q2 2022) until the shortages ease in H1 2022.

In other words, the iPhone 13 series will continue to remain in demand till the launch of the iPhone 14 family.

Caviar has just launched new customized models of the iPhone 13 Pro series. While the company has launched a number of iPhones with unique aspects and designs, the latest one might be able to save your life in dire situations.

The Russia based luxury goods maker has unveiled the new Stealth 2.0 series for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max models. For those unaware, the original Stealth custom edition was for privacy conscious users, but with its latest generation, Caviar added an extra feature that could be potentially life saving. The Stealth 2.0 arrives with BR2 Class 2 bulletproof armor that is claimed to be strong enough to withstand gunshots. You read that right, the new custom iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max are capable of stopping bullets.

To achieve this impressive feat, the brand partnered up with NPOTCIT, a firm that specializes in attack helicopters and armored vehicles. NPOTCIT is behind the custom iPhone 13 Pro’s bulletproof body. Furthermore, the Stealth 2.0 removes the front and rear cameras from the iPhone, which in turn also disables Face ID as well. In other words, the custom iPhone 13 Pro do not feature any biometric security. Although, whether the camera trade off for potentially saving one’s life is worthwhile is still up for debate.

According to Caviar, the removal of the cameras also ensures that you can take the device in areas where cameras are banned. Additionally, a YouTube video of a person firing at the iPhone 13 Pro Stealth 2.0 was also shared. While the device did become unusable after taking the bullet, it also managed to stop the bullet that ensures that users would escape with just a bruise. The brand only plans on making 99 units of this model as well, with the most affordable variant starting from 6,370 US Dollars and maxing out at 7,980 US Dollars.

The iPhone 13 and the 13 Pro are powered by the same processor: the Apple A15 Bionic built at 5 nm which is one of the most advanced processors in the whole smartphone market. What changes in their hardware department is the RAM: you get just 4 GB of RAM with the vanilla version and 6 GB of RAM with the Pro variant. Further, the iPhone 13 Pro has an additional configuration with 1 TB of internal storage, while the iPhone 13 offers up to 512 GB of native storage. The phones run iOS 15 out of the box and they will get seven years of major updates.

Camera

With the iPhone 13 Pro, you get a better camera setup and a higher amount of cameras on the rear side. Besides a 12 MP main sensor with an f/1.5 focal aperture (brighter than the f/1.6 focal aperture of the iPhone 13), there are also three other sensors: a 12 MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, a 12 MP ultrawide sensor, and a TOF 3D LiDAR scanner for AR appliances. The vanilla iPhone 13 has just a dual camera and its secondary sensor is a 12 MP ultrawide camera like the Pro version, but with a darker focal aperture: f/2.4 instead of f/1.8.

Alongside the price, the only advantage of the iPhone 13 when compared to its Pro sibling is the battery life. The vanilla version has a bigger battery than the Pro variant, that is why its battery life can be longer. The charging technologies are the same.

The starting price of the iPhone 13 is $799/€899, while the iPhone 13 Pro starts from $999/€1099. If we exclude the battery life, the Pro variant is superior in every aspect, but you do not necessarily need it since the iPhone 13 is still an amazing high-end phone. Which one would you pick?

The iPhone 13 Pro also provides a higher brightness. But there is an important detail that may let you choose the iPhone 12 Pro Max: its bigger display size. The iPhone 12 Pro Max is more suitable for productivity because of its 6.7-inch display, while the iPhone 13 Pro has a compact 6.1-inch panel. Both the displays are Super Retina XDR OLED panels with HDR10, Dolby Vision, and a 1170p resolution, but the 13 Pro has a higher average brightness.

Specs & Software

If you desire to get higher performance, then go for the iPhone 13 Pro without thinking twice. It has a more powerful Apple A15 Bionic chipset which provides up to 50 percent better CPU performance and even better GPU performance. The memory configurations are the same, but the iPhone 13 Pro adds a fourth variant with 1 TB of internal storage. Another important advantage of the iPhone 13 Pro is the presence of iOS 15 out of the box, that is the reason why it will get one year more of software support. The difference in terms of battery life is important, while the charging speeds are exactly the same, but the 13 Pro naturally charges faster because of its smaller battery capacity.

Price

You can currently buy the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max for less than €1100/$999. You can usually find better street prices for the iPhone 12 Pro Max because it is an older device, while the 13 Pro has been on sale just for a few weeks. The advantages of the iPhone 12 Pro Max are its bigger display and its bigger battery, but for the rest, the iPhone 13 Pro is superior. It has a smaller display, but it comes with a better processor, better cameras, and iOS 15 out of the box.

While the iPhone 13 Pro and the other variants went on sale for the first time, the price of the iPhone 12 series dropped and led them to offer a higher value for money. Is it worth spending more money on the new models or it makes more sense to save money to get a model from the previous generation? After comparing the vanilla iPhone 13 to the iPhone 12, we decided to publish a comparison between the specifications of the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro in order to give you a complete idea even about the Pro variants.

Design

As already mentioned, there are no big changes in the design of the iPhone 13 Pro, but there is an important optimization: the notch is smaller. Thanks to better management of the space, Apple was able to reduce the size of the notch by 20 percent. But not all that glitters is gold: the new iPhone 13 Pro is thicker and heavier than the older model. Further, the rear cameras are protruding more than the previous generation phone. That is why having a smaller notch does not necessarily mean having a more beautiful phone. Both the handset retain the IP68 certification making them waterproof and dustproof, as well as the Ceramic Shield.

Display

The displays of the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro have almost the same specifications. The only differences between these panels are the smaller notch on the iPhone 13 Pro and the refresh rate. They are Super Retina XDR OLED displays with the HDR10 certification, Dolby Vision support, and a Full HD+ resolution of 1170 x 2532 pixels. The iPhone 13 Pro adds a 120 Hz refresh rate, while its predecessor has a standard 60 Hz refresh rate. The Ceramic Shield allows for high resistance and an oleophobic coating. Unlike Android flagships, there is no fingerprint reader, but users can rely on 3D facial recognition for authentication.

The iPhone 12 Pro is powered by the Apple A14 Bionic mobile platform paired with 6 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of native storage. With the iPhone 13 Pro, you get an Apple A14 Bionic chipset, 6 GB of RAM, and up to 1 TB of internal storage. The Apple A15 Bionic provides a CPU performance boost of up to 50 percent if compared to the Apple A14 Bionic, as well as 50 percent better GPU performance. That is why the hardware department of the iPhone 13 Pro is a significant upgrade over its predecessor. The Apple A15 Bionic has a higher 3.22 GHz clock frequency and the new iPhone 13 Pro ships with iOS 15 out of the box, while the 12 Pro ships with iOS 14. This means that the 13 Pro will most likely get longer software support.

Camera

Besides the performance improvement, the iPhone 13 Pro also provides a camera upgrade. You still get a triple camera with 12 MP resolution paired with a TOF 3D LiDAR scanner, but the new handset has brighter focal apertures (for the main camera and the ultrawide sensor) as well as more advanced features for video recording (such as ProRes and Cinematic mode with stereo sound).

Battery

In the design paragraph, we told you that iPhone 13 Pro is thicker and heavier than its predecessor. There is a reason for this and it is the presence of a bigger battery. The iPhone 13 Pro has a battery with a capacity of 3095 mAh, while the 12 Pro has just 2815 mAh. This means that the new model is able to provide a longer battery life in every scenario. Further, it also supports faster wired charging thanks to a power of 23W. So having a bigger battery does not mean way longer charging times.

Price

The starting price of the iPhone 13 Pro is €1149 in the European market and $999 in the U.S. and the iPhone 12 Pro started from a similar price tag, but now it has dropped and you can easily find it for less than €900 or $900. In my opinion, the upgrades of the iPhone 13 Pro make it worth spending more for the new model.

A majority of the participants of a survey said that the new Apple iPhone 13‌ lineup is “not very” or “not at all” exciting. The survey had sampled 5,000 iPhone users aged 18 and above in the United States between September 23 and 30.

It was conducted by SellCell (via: MacRumors) and revealed that 64 percent of users are “not very” or “not at all” excited about the iPhone 13 lineup. 21.5 percent felt that the ‌iPhone 13‌ models are “somewhat” exciting, and only 14.4 percent said that they are “extremely” or “very exciting.”

The excitement for the new iPhone series was found to be higher prior to the announcement. This is apparent from the fact that just 23.3 percent of users intend to upgrade to an ‌iPhone 13‌ model, which is a significant 20.5 percent drop compared to a pre-launch survey conducted two months ago.

Among the 23.3 percent from the survey that intend to upgrade to an ‌iPhone 13‌ model, the iPhone 13 Pro was found to be the most popular choice with an overwhelming 42.5 percent of responses. This was followed by the ‌iPhone 13 Pro‌ Max at 26.3 percent, iPhone 13‌ at 22 percent, and finally the iPhone 13 mini with just 9.2% of votes.

Also among those that plan to upgrade, the primary reasons were the 120Hz display upgrade and longer battery life, as indicated in the graph below. 15.7% felt that there’s no particular reason and they were simply upgrading because it’s due.

Of the 76.8 percent of existing ‌iPhone‌ users not interested in purchasing a model from the ‌iPhone 13‌ series, 29.3 percent cited the lack of a Touch ID fingerprint scanner. This was followed by 19.5 percent said that there were no major features to warrant an upgrade. Other criticisms included the lack of an always-on display, a notch-free design, 120Hz on the standard models, and a USB-C port.

36.8% of those with no plans to upgrade have stated that they will wait for the iPhone 14 instead. 16.1% are switching to an Android device, with 45.1 percent wanting to purchase a Google device, 41.8 percent wishing to purchase a Samsung device, and 8.4% planning to grab a OnePlus device.

Last but not the least, the Apple Watch Series 7 too has barely managed to grab much interest with just 7.5 percent of ‌iPhone‌ users saying that they are planning to buy one. This, despite the watch’s larger display, more durable design, and improved charging speeds.

Apple‘s 120Hz solution for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max is not just determined by content (as on Android devices), but also by the speed of the finger when swiping or scrolling through content.

This makes it possible for the refresh rate to dip down all the way to 10Hz or lower while having the ability to jump up all the way to 120Hz dynamically, based on user inputs. The tech seems specific so far to Apple devices considering most Androids, including Samsung, only switch between 60Hz and 120Hz (or 90Hz) depending on the app being used.

As a result, the 120Hz on the iPhone 13 Pro/Pro Max should be far less taxing on the battery. This has actually proven to be true – the iPhone 13 Pro Max gives over 12 hours of screen on time – one of the highest in the mainstream smartphone market. But of course, the dynamic refresh rate isn’t the only contributor here since both Apple’s optimization and the usage of an efficient chip also have a major role to play.

The implication of this is that while Apple has been rather late to the high refresh rate party, its ‘ProMotion’ panels have been optimized quite well. However, the 120Hz implementation from Cupertino does have a couple of shortcomings.

Unlike Android where 120Hz or 90Hz gets enabled automatically on third-party apps that might as well have been last updated during the Stone Age, Apple’s 120Hz solution is limited to system apps. iOS apps need to be manually updated by the developers with the injection of a line of code to enable 120Hz. There is also a bug in Core Animation that needs to be fixing, if it hasn’t already been fixed.

That said, it is worth mentioning here that while Apple is rather late in joining the high refresh rate camp, the iPhone 13 Pro isn’t its first portable device to sport the same. The title is held by the 2017 iPad Pro lineup that was also one of the first mobile devices, in general, to come with LCD 120Hz panels.

Viewers who have seen our Vivo X70 Pro Plus Full review will know that the X70 Pro+ is great at taking pictures. Previously, we compared the X60 Pro+ with the Samsung S21 Ultra, but as of today, the S22 Ultra is not yet launched. So today, we’ll put the X70 Pro+ against another recently released hot phone: the iPhone 13 Pro. 

iPhone 13 Pro vs Vivo X70 Pro+: Camera Specs

To be honest, if we just compare the paper specs, iPhone 13 pro is not qualified to be the rival of vivo x70 pro+. Not only does the iPhone lack a traditional camera lens brand cooperation like Zeiss, but there’s also no periscope telephoto lens. And the pixel size of the main camera sensor is not as big as the GN1 after the 4-in-1 binning. But the iPhone is the best at using software optimization to make up for the lack of hardware. So we have divided this video comparison into three parts: photos, video, and experience in using the camera.

iPhone 13 Pro vs Vivo X70 Pro+: Photography

Main Camera

Let’s talk about the quality of their photos first. The x70 pro+ is undoubtedly more vibrant, has higher contrast, and looks more pleasing to the eye. But everyone likes different color preferences, so even if the iPhone favors true colors, we can’t say it’s worse than the x70 pro+. The dynamic range on the x70 pro+ is significantly better than the iPhone 13 Pro. iPhone’s Smart HDR can overexpose small areas of highlights. The darker parts of the pictures are brighter than the x70 Pro+. Even though the x70 pro+’s main camera is 50mp, in daily use with 4-in-1 pixel binning, it actually takes pictures equal to about 12mp. The difference in clarity is not visible during the daytime. But at night the iPhone benefits from an excellent algorithm, and even if the x70 Pro+ has night mode on, the iPhone will be a little clearer than the x70 Pro+. But again, the difference is not that huge. However, there’s a significant difference in how the photos process flares. Since the iPhone has started using sapphire glass lens, the problem of flare at night has become very serious. Compared to the x70 Pro+ which has Zeiss T* coating, the difference is very obvious. When shooting with the iPhone 13 Pro, it is better to avoid situations that can give rise to flare as much as possible.

Ultra Wide Lens

The ultra-wide lens generally performs about the same as the main camera. The x70 Pro+ is still better in terms of HDR strength. Although the purple-fringing issue of the ultra-wide lens is much less than the x70 Pro+ when compared to the x60 Pro+, it is still worse than the iPhone. At night because the sensor is smaller, the iPhone will have more noise in the picture. But I still like the way the iPhone handles this more than the x70 Pro+ which makes the image blurry like an oil painting in order to erase the noise.

Zoom Quality

The X70 Pro+’s Standard lenses are 50mm equivalent, the iPhone 13 Pro’s are 77mm equivalent. So in the 2x sample, the X70 Pro+ uses a 2x portrait lens and the iPhone uses a 2x zoom crop of the main camera. Clearly, the X70 Pro+ is the overall winner in this focal length test. Of course, when you zoom in to 3x, the X70 Pro+ is using a portrait lens zoom crop and the iPhone is using a 77mm lens. But the difference between the two is not as great as it was with the 2x. While it’s true that the iPhone will be sharper in the 77mm focal length, the dynamic range is still better with the X70 Pro+.

The iPhone’s 3x lens has one advantage. In very dark conditions, the x70 pro+’s 2x portrait lens cannot be called up in a normal mode and can only be cropped by zooming in with the main camera. The iPhone can still call up the 3x lens and get a good picture when zoomed in to 3x.

The iPhone does not have a periscope telephoto lens, so when the image is zoomed in to 5x, the x70 pro+, which has a 5x periscope telephoto, theoretically beats the iPhone. But the difference in the actual samples is not large. The iPhone with a 3x lens zoom crop does not lose to the x70 pro+, you can zoom in to see the subtle differences. Because the 3x lens can perform to such a degree, I think it is already very impressive.

Macro Shots

Because the iPhone 13 Pro’s Ultra Wide Lens supports autofocus, it can also take macro photos. Compared to the x70 pro+, which also shoots macro with an Ultra Wide Lens, the iPhone can shoot closer, and the photos taken will be more stunning.

We have put together the portrait mode and selfie section for you to see here. Both phones perform well in portrait mode for selfies. The iPhone’s background bokeh is stronger, and the x70 pro+ is not as strong as the iPhone’s default aperture bokeh, even when the aperture is opened to the maximum. And even if you turn off the beauty algorithm on the x70 pro+, the AI color algorithm will help you optimize the color of your skin, and it will look healthier. If you just look at the clarity, the difference between the two is again not so obvious.

When it comes to the video part, it shows just how powerful the iPhone’s algorithms are. This fixed camera shot of the main camera clearly shows that the iPhone not only does a good job of holding down the highlights and brightening the dark areas but also has much better clarity than the x70 Pro+. The same goes for the super wide-angle lens. The x70 pro+ not only lags behind the iPhone 13 Pro in terms of dynamic range and sharpness, but also has a much narrower field of view than the iPhone. Of course, this choice also allows the x70 pro+ to be more stable when recording in motion. This video shows the advantages of combining a gimbal and electronic stabilization. iPhone’s ultra-wide camera is not as stable as the x70 pro+ when it comes to motion shots. But if it’s the main camera without a gimbal, the two are closer in terms of stabilization performance.

Some viewers are more concerned about whether x70 pro+ can switch lenses in recording, the answer is yes, but only in 1080P 30 FPS mode. The iPhone 13 Pro can switch any of the three lenses in 4k 30FPS mode.

I believe everyone is tired of listening to how good the CINEMATIC mode of iPhone 13 Pro is for shooting people. So let’s compare the effect of the x70 pro+ with the real bokeh effect of shooting objects. CINEMATIC’s bokeh algorithm is fantastic, and the background bokeh is very natural. But the disadvantage is also very obvious, the edge keying is still not very accurate. The edges are vague, as if the object is glowing. Also, just the 1080P 30 FPS recording specifications are not quite enough for this mode. In short, this CINEMATIC mode still needs to be improved.

The X70 pro+ only has HDR video support for the main camera, so let’s compare the HDR video recording performance of the main camera. I believe I don’t need to explain much, this time the iPhone once again won with its superb algorithm. The performance of the iPhone in the video section tells us that a powerful chip with an excellent algorithm is really able to beat phones with stronger hardware.

iPhone 13 Pro vs Vivo X70 Pro+: Camera User Experience

The experience of using the camera is also a very important part of the camera system. It can be said whether the experience of the camera is good or bad, determines the frequency of your photos. The iPhone takes the lead in fast photo experience, even if you press the shutter quickly and continuously, there is no lag. On the x70 pro+, even with the assistance of the v1 chip, there will be a delay when you press the shutter quickly. In the real-time preview of the viewfinder, thanks to the v1 chip, the x70 pro+ is very close to the performance of the iPhone. Even scenes with very bright light ratios can achieve more than 90% of the iPhone’s level. And shockingly, the x70 pro+ still performs very well in extreme low light.

So this was the end of our iPhone 13 vs vivo X70 Pro+ comparison. We found from the test that the x70 pro+ is a little better at taking pictures, with good dynamic range and color performance, as well as periscope telephoto. On the other hand, iPhone 13 Pro does a better job of video recording and camera experience, but the quality difference isn’t as significant as one might expect. 

Which phone you end up choosing as your photography device depends entirely on your personal use habits. After all, there is no perfect phone, only the one that suits you best.

Several Apple iPhone 13 series users are reporting intermittent touch screen issues on iOS 15 wherein their device doesn’t respond to touch inputs on certain parts of the display or even the entire panel. Users say that the only way to temporarily work around the problem when it strikes is by rebooting the device.

Posts on Reddit, Twitter, and Apple forums related to the issue all more or less say the same thing – the iPhone 13 touch sensitivity is screwed, requiring repeated taps for touches to register (via: MacRumors).

The problem seems to vary from user to user. While some say that it occurs with all apps and the entire screen, others have observed that certain sections of the touch – particularly the upper corners – are more affected. The entire lineup seems to be plagued by touch screen issues, or at least the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The cause is unknown at the moment, although isolated cases could be narrowed down to possible hardware malfunctions. However, a few reports following the iOS 15 update on older models point towards the possibility of something being wrong with the update itself.

After all, bugs on iOS 15 aren’t exactly a rare occurrence. MacRumors reports that the update has been tormented with problems, including bugs related to the ‌iPhone 13‌ and the Apple Watch, device storage, Apple Music, and widgets, on top of possible security vulnerabilities. Apple has promised to release an update to address some of the problems affecting iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 devices though.

The fixes may be brought along with an iOS 15.0.1 update, but there are chances that Apple may instead directly release iOS 15.1 when it clears beta testing next month.

That said, it is worth mentioning here that YouTuber and Apple beta specialist Zollotech in his latest video observed that the iPhone 13 touch issues seem to have been fixed on iOS 15.1 beta, according to his limited time with the build. Those affected can thus take a sigh of relief.

A teardown video has revealed that the just-released Apple iPhone 13 Pro comes with a battery that’s exactly 3,095mAh in size. This is sizeably larger than the 2,815mAh capacity found on its predecessor, the iPhone 12 Pro.

Apple had promised that the new model should last up to 1.5 hours longer on a single charger, so it figures. The battery is L-shaped this time and is manufactured by the China-based Sunwoda Electronic Co.

The teardown video by blogger WekiHome (via: GSMArena) further reveals that the iPhone 13 Pro is utilizing the Qualcomm X60 as its 5G modem. Additionally, it comes with a Samsung-supplied 120Hz screen and a slightly smaller Taptic Engine compared to last year. The device’s RAM is also supplied by Samsung while Japan’s Kioxia is responsible for the flash memory.

All in all, the innards of the iPhone 13 Pro are not too different when compared to the 12 Pro, although there have been plenty of adjustments.

That said, those that are looking to purchase the latest and greatest iPhones from Apple will be disappointed to know that the Cupertino-based company has delayed their delivery time to October. Preorders are still being taken though.

Apple’s iPhone 13 series handsets include storage options of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB, with the Pro versions getting a 1TB storage variant for the first time. Custom smartphones designer Caviar has released a collection of iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max smartphones that are inspired by the design of several Rolex watch models. The Caviar collection draws inspiration from its founder Sergey Kitov, who has amassed a deep knowledge of the Rolex brand designs. The new design direction for the iPhone 13 flagship offerings is seen as a huge fashion statement by some fashion buffs.

Some of the Rolex watches that have inspired this Caviar collection include the Datejust collection which has been using the Jubilee bracelet since 1945, the Yacht-Master II, the Cosmograph Daytona, and the Rolex Sky-Dweller. The designs are all reminiscent of their corresponding Rolex watch faces with all the necessary inputs that bring back the memories of these iconic timepieces.

In addition, the Benvenuto draws inspiration from the Rolex Cellini and is the pick of the current Caviar iPhone 13 collection. It is the most expensive and its sunburst pattern is engraved into 18-karat white gold and 18-karat rose gold.

The price tag of these Rolex-themed iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max collections from Caviar starts from $6000 up to $8,500. The Benvenuto Cellini is however priced from $25,000. This year the Pro variants of the new iPhones come with a few more advanced features. Compared to the vanilla iPhone 13 and the mini variant, iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max have a more powerful chipset and better cameras, as well as additional camera technologies. But what are the differences between the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max? If you compare them with the above-mentioned phones you will find a lot of differences, but you can not tell the same if you compare these two devices. In order to give you the most complete idea on the matter, we decided to highlight the differences between the Pro in the Pro Max through a specs comparison.

Design

If we exclude the dimensions, the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max come with exactly the same aesthetics. They sport a glass front protected by Gorilla Glass, a glass back with the same protection, and a stainless steel frame. The phones are waterproof with the IP68 certification and they can withstand immersions up to 6 meters deep. As already said, the only difference is in the dimensions: the iPhone 13 Pro is way more compact thanks to its smaller display. Further, the iPhone 13 Pro is lighter because of its smaller display and a smaller battery. The new iPhones come with 20 percent smaller notches compared to their predecessor and this makes them more elegant and stylish.

Display

Besides the design, the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max share the same display specifications. They sport Super Retina XDR OLED panels with a 120 Hz refresh rate, the HDR10 certification, Dolby Vision support, and a peak brightness of up to 1200 nits. The iPhone 13 Pro Max has a wider diagonal for the display: 6.7 inches vs 6.1 inches. The resolution is slightly different, but the phones have a very similar pixel density. The Pro Max has a resolution of 1284 x 2778 pixels, while the Pro has 1170 x 2532 pixels. The authentication can be made through 3D facial recognition thanks to Face ID, but there is no fingerprint scanner.

Specs & Software

Even in the hardware department, there are no significant changes. These handsets are powered by the very same Apple A15 Bionic chipset, an octa-core SoC built at 5 nm with a max frequency of 3.22 GHz. The SoC is paired with 6 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of internal storage depending on the memory configuration. There are four configurations differing for the internal storage: 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB. Note that, while there is no difference between the hardware departments of these two flagships, they have a stronger GPU than the iPhone 13 and the 13 mini.

Camera

These handsets come with three camera sensors with 12 MP resolutions: the main camera with an f/1.5 focal aperture, a telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom, and an ultrawide camera. Then there is a TOF 3D LiDAR scanner for AR appliances. On the front side, there is a 12 MP selfie snapper paired with an SL 3D sensor for 3D facial recognition.

Battery

Finally, an important difference between iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max: the battery. The former has a battery capacity of 3125 mAh, while the latter has a whopping 4373 mAh and it is the first Apple phone with a battery above 4000 mAh. Naturally, the difference in terms of battery life is big as you can use the phone for a few hours more while watching multimedia content.

Price

Prices are different depending on the market. The starting price of the iPhone 13 Pro is €1149 in the European market, while in the U.S. it costs $999 in its base variant. The iPhone 13 Pro Max is priced at €1249 in Europe and $1099 in the U.S. Which one should you pick? The iPhone 13 Pro is more compact, but the Pro Max is superior because of its wider display and bigger battery. If the battery life of the Pro variant is enough for you and if you do not mind having a 6.7-inch panel, then the Pro may be a more correct choice for your needs. Otherwise, go for the Pro Max.

A silicon case has revealed that the iPhone 13 Pro easily has the largest camera module any iPhone has ever had. This makes sense considering that the iPhone model features significantly improved camera performance this year.

Fitting the iPhone 13 Pro case on an iPhone 12 Pro gives us an idea of how massive the difference is. Based on the image shared by Apple Insider, as seen above, it is safe to assume that the iPhone 13 Pro will be featuring a camera bump that’s larger by a third. This is amusing considering that the notch’s size on the front has been reduced by a third as well.

Announced this Tuesday, the iPhone 13 Pro packs in a number of camera upgrades. The primary camera has gotten a larger new sensor with a wider f/1.5 aperture for a 2.2x improvement in low light shots.

The ultra-wide sensor has seen some upgrades as well and now has an f/1.8 aperture. This is much larger than the iPhone 12 Pro’s f/2.4 equivalent. Lastly, the 12MP telephoto lens has gotten a boost from a 2x optical zoom on the iPhone 12 Pro to a 3x optical zoom on the iPhone 13 Pro.

There are no crazy megapixel counts on any of the sensors this year too as all the cameras on the Apple iPhone 13 Pro have 12MP sensors, including the selfie shooter, just like its predecessor.

Still, the camera upgrades are significant enough to justify a much larger camera module. Further, the depth of the overall camera package has likely been increased as well causing it to protrude more than ever before.

This is likely because of a new sensor-shift stabilization tech on the wide-angle shooter made possible by stacking two sensors diagonally instead of their usual vertical layout.

The iPhone 13 Pro starts at $999 and pre-orders for the new iPhone models will commence Friday (today) at 5:00 AM Pacific Time, following by an official launch on September 24. Initial shipments of first-party iPhone 13 series accessories will be arriving ahead of a start to pre-orders on Friday.

On Tuesday, Apple announced the iPhone 13 series at its ‘California Streaming’ event. Just like the iPhone 12 lineup, there are four models, namely iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. The pre-orders for these smartphones are yet o go live, but we already have their benchmark scores.

A report by MacRumors compares the Gekbench scores of the iPhone 13 series with the iPhone 12 series. The new iPhones are not only powerful than their predecessors but their performance also differs among fellow current-gen models.

All four iPhone 13 variants are powered by A15 Bionic SoC. However, the less expensive iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini come with a 4-core GPU instead of 5 cores like on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. In fact, even the new iPad Mini 6th Generation features a 5-core GPU.

Due to the above-mentioned difference in GPU architecture, there’s a graphics performance gap between the latest iPhones. For example, the iPhone 13 scores around 10,608 on Geekbench Metal, while the iPhone 13 Pro bags around 14216 points. Anyway, the GPU in the standard iPhone 13 performs about 15% better than the GPU inside the iPhone 12.

Having said that, as all four new iPhones arrive with a 6-core CPU, there’s no major disparity in CPU performance. Hence, if you want the best graphics on an iPhone or any other smartphone for that matter, it is recommended to invest in an iPhone 13 Pro or an iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The Apple iPhone 13 series will be available for pre-orders starting September 17 in key markets. It will be up for sale from September 24.

Apple announced new iPhones today, four models, just like last year’s iPhone 12 series. While all the new iPhone 13 models bring new features, it is the new iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max that comes with a feature Apple fans have longed for – a display with a high refresh rate.

The new iPhone 13 Pro models have a 120Hz ProMotion display that adjusts between 10Hz and 120Hz but their screen sizes have remained unchanged from last year’s models. So you have a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display on the iPhone 13 Pro while the iPhone 13 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch screen. Just like the iPhone 13 Mini and iPhone 13, the pro models also feature slightly smaller notches. They are also protected by a sheet of Ceramic Shield which Apple claims is tougher than any smartphone glass.

The Apple A15 Bionic chipset is inside the two phones and it brings upgrades in the CPU and GPU department. Apple didn’t waste the chance to say that competitors are still playing catch up, even with its older chipsets.

The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max boast significant upgrades in the camera department. There is a new 12MP f/1.8 ultrawide angle camera with a 120° field of view, and just like we have seen on some Android phones, this sensor can also shoot macro photos (at 2 cm) but Apple doesn’t stop there. It can also record macro videos including in slow motion and time-lapse mode. This sensor also captures up to 92% more light than before.

There is also a 12MP f/2.8 telephoto camera that brings 3x optical zoom  (6x optical zoom range across the system) and 15x digital zoom. This sensor also joins the ultrawide angle camera and the wide-angle camera in being able to shoot in Night Mode. The 12MP f/1.5 wide camera has the largest sensor, capturing 2.2x more light on an iPhone and it takes advantage of the LiDAR Scanner when shooting in Night Mode.

Apple has added new video shooting features such as Cinematic Mode that change the focus when recording a video. Users will be able to choose, adjust the level of bokeh, and even lock which objects the camera should focus on. However, there is also an automatic mode that shifts the focus when a person enters the frame or looks away from the camera. This feature will be available on the front TrueDepth camera and the rear wide and telephoto cameras.

Another interesting feature is Photographic Styles which applies your own preferred shooting style (tone and warmth) to your photos but doesn’t change the skies and skin tones.

The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max still have a lightning connector like their siblings. However, the battery life is better now – an extra 2.5 hours more on the Pro Max and 1.5 hours more on the Pro. Wired charging is still capped at 20W while MagSafe wireless charging is 15W. You can still use a Qi wireless charger but it is slower as it charges at up to 7.5W.

The iPhone 13 Pro models will be available in Sierra Blue, Silver, Gold, and Graphite. They will also be available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB variants. Below are their prices:

The new iPhone 13 series launch is finally upon us. The much-awaited day has been set for tomorrow – or September 14 to be precise – with the event being set as a virtual one. Judging from the leaks and rumors we have at hand, the new lineup will not be a significant upgrade over its predecessor. Instead, the focus will be on improving on some of the existing features that fans already love and make the iPhone experience better than ever. Regardless, Apple will offer enough upgrades to ensure even an iPhone 12 user can consider getting the new model, and we have rounded up all that there’s to know about the new series below.

iPhone 13 Variants

Apple will likely go with the trusty four variant lineup that will be covering a wide demographic, just like last year’s iPhone 12 series. Thus, the iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13, and iPhone 13 mini are expected. Of course, the Pro Max variant will be the priciest of the bunch, while the iPhone 13 mini will be the most economical.

iPhone 13 Display and Design

Judging from rumors, not much will be changed in the design department. Apple is known for changing designs once every few iPhone iterations. The last tweak only came with the iPhone 12 series, in the form of a more boxy design, and the iPhone 13 series will thus likely be keeping the same. However, the size of the notch will be noticeably reduced – by a third to be precise. So yeah, no punch holes yet.

Coming to display sizes, the iPhone 13 mini will obviously be the most pocket-friendly among the bunch and is expected to sport a 5.4-inch screen. The displays of the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro could also be sized the same as last year at a larger 6.1-inches. The largest of the lot – the iPhone 13 Pro Max – will reportedly come with a 6.7-inch screen.

At least two 2021 iPhone models will be using LTPO tech for the display panels that will allow lower power consumption, thus paving the road for 120Hz refresh rates. The refresh rate tech will be quite advanced too and will dynamically adjust all the way from 1Hz to 120Hz depending on the content being displayed on the screen. The two Pro models may even get an Always-On display feature. This might, however, be missing from the non-Pro variants.

Cameras on the iPhone 13 series

The rumor mill has churned out some notable improvements in the camera department. Sensor-shift stabilization will be expanded across the entire iPhone lineup, introducing improvements in low light performance and stabilization.

The more expensive iPhone models should be getting an upgraded ultrawide camera with an improved f/1.8 aperture that will help capture better night shots than the current f/2.4 aperture lens.

Hardware and Software

As it has been with literally every iPhone ever, the processors across the entire lineup will be receiving an upgrade. This year, it will be the A15 Bionic chip that will be bringing enhancements that will improve both regular usage and gaming performance.

Bigger batteries along with faster charging are to be expected as well, along with a wider mmWave 5G support.

Apple is also expected to offer another look at the features coming in iOS 15 with the live event tomorrow. It isn’t clear if the iOS version will be making its debut with the iPhone 13 series.

Colors and Variants

First reported by 91Mobiles, a Ukrainian website had revealed that the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max will be available in Black, Silver, Gold, and Bronze.

A new report also revealed that Apple will be doing away with the 64GB storage variant on the entire series for good, thus setting the base as 128GB. The pro variants may even offer up to 1TB storage options.

Pricing and Availability

Some sources claim that the iPhone 13 series will come with an increased price due to the global semiconductor shortage that has increased costs of chip production from TSMC. However, this bit is again unconfirmed.

If rumors of a price hike are false, then the pricing will be very similar, if not exactly the same, to the iPhone 12 series. As such, the iPhone 13 mini will cost $699, iPhone 13 $799, iPhone 13 Pro $999, and finally the iPhone 13 Pro Max $1,099.

Other Expected Products at the Event

Other products to be expected include the Apple Watch Series 7 and the AirPods 3.

The Apple Watch will likely see its biggest redesign with Series 7 that will be following the design language of the latest iPads and iPhones. It will have flatter edges, a larger display, and increased resolution.

The AirPods 3 may feature an updated design as well and are rumored to be a bit pricier than their previous generation.

After weeks of speculations, Apple has finally announced the date of its iPhone launch. The Cupertino-based company has sent out invites for the event which will be a virtual one.

The invite which has surfaced online reveals that the new iPhone 13 series will be announced on Tuesday, September 14. If Apple isn’t bent on launching its products on Tuesdays, September 13 would have been a great choice since it is announcing the iPhone 13.

The event will be live-streamed like Apple’s previous events since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is scheduled for 10 AM PDT (6 PM BST/ 10:30 PM IST)

Apple will launch the iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13, the iPhone 13 Pro, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max. All three will feature the new Apple A15 chip which will be unveiled at the event. They are also expected to come with bigger battery capacities, faster charging, and reverse wireless charging. It has also been reported that the new iPhones will have support for satellite communication in cases where cellular connectivity isn’t available. However, this feature may not be available in all regions. The new iPhones should also get new color options.

Apple is also expected to announce the Apple Watch Series 7, new iPads, and the AirPods 3 on that day too.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 13 series this month. The American tech giant could announce the date for the launch event as early as today. Ahead of that, a new official MagSafe charger has been certified by FCC.

According to a report by 9to5Mac, a new Apple MagSafe charger with model number A2548 has been certified by FCC. For those unaware, the current-gen MagSafe charger bears model number A2140.

The publication says that the iPhone maker is known for updating model numbers for its accessories due to small changes. Sometimes these changes are even hard to notice. 

However, a report from July suggested that the iPhone 13 series might come with larger wireless charging coil and strong magnets with possible support for reverse wireless charging. 

Hence, there’s a chance that the new MagSafe charger could be designed for the changes in the upcoming iPhones. But unfortunately, we cannot tell that for sure as of now.

Having said that, the FCC listing does confirm one thing. This new MagSafe charger will be compatible with both iPhone 12 series and the forthcoming iPhone 13 lineup. The two different iPhone generations consisting of four models are mentioned as ‘Legacy Phone’ and ‘New Phone’.

As mentioned earlier, Apple will likely debut the iPhone 13, iPhone Mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max by the end of September. The new models are expected to cost more due to the ongoing global semiconductor shortage.

Earlier this month, a leak revealed that the entire Apple iPhone 13 series will feature a LiDAR scanner. Later, it was dismissed by other tipsters suggesting that only the Pro models will come with LiDAR support. Now, the Apple analyst Wedbush has added to the old leak reaffirming that the LiDAR scanner is coming to the entire lineup.

The Apple analyst has revealed that he has looked into the iPhone 13’s supply chain in Asia confirming that indeed LiDAR scanner is coming and the production figures for the 13-series have increased. Additionally, the Pro models are touted to come with up 1TB of internal storage, instead of the standard 512GB max storage option.

Although it is not confirmed, we expect the lower-end storage configurations to also increase in capacity. The current iPhones start at a base 64GB variant, which could change in the 13 series with a base storage configuration of 128GB.

In related news, Apple analysts said that they expect the sales of the upcoming iPhone 13 to increase significantly. Apple has also increased the supply to 90-100 million units over the iPhone 12‘s 80 million supply chain figures.

Notably, it’s being said that this year, all the models in the iPhone 13 series will have 5G connectivity support. This means all the iPhones launching in 2022 will have 5G, including the next-generation iPhone SE. The cheaper iPhone is said to come with the Apple A15 Bionic chip in 2022, which will first debut in iPhone 13 series later this year.

Another tipster has just shared news of the upcoming Apple iPhone 13 series. Although, rather than leaking new information, the leaker has basically corroborated reports from the past regarding the iPhone 13 Pro featuring a LiDAR sensor.

LiDAR will only be coming to the pro iPhone models. Earlier this year it seemed Apple wanted to release all iPhone 13/12S models with LiDAR but due to one reason or another, it won’t be happening this year.

According to a tweet from @dylandkt, the high end models within the series, which is the iPhone 13 Pro lineup, will exclusively feature the new LiDAR sensor on the back. The tipster further added that the Cupertino based giant had initially aimed at including the sensor across the entire 2021 iPhone lineup, which was also previously rumored. However, the brand had to skip this feature for the lower end models due to certain unknown reasons.

In other words, the iPhone 13 Mini and base iPhone 13 could’ve also featured LiDAR technology as well. But now, only the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max would have the additional sensor on the rear. Notably, the tipster has been correct with certain predictions regarding upcoming Apple products in the past. For those unaware, LiDAR scanner was first introduced by the iPhone maker back in 2020 with the iPad Pro and then arrived in the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

This technology uses Time of Flight systems to measure the distance between the sensor and the object so that the camera can measure the distance precisely. The company has also applied this technology to enhance its AR experience primarily and also uses it in its Night Mode to improve image results as well. So stay tuned for more updates.

Apple has largely maintained the same design for the iPhone for a few years now with slight changes, and it appears that will be the case again this year. A photo alleged to be that of the iPhone 13 has been posted on the internet and it shows some of these small design changes.

The source of the image is said to be a leaker that goes by DuanRui (via MyDrivers) and the photo shows two Apple-branded devices in white. One has dual cameras and is believed to be the iPhone 13 while the other with three cameras is the iPhone 13 Pro.

For the iPhone 13, the squircle camera housing remains unchanged, so also is the number of sensors. However, rather than having the cameras on top of each other like those on the iPhone 12, they are arranged diagonally. Also, the LED flash has been moved to the top while the microphone is now at the bottom. It is a small but noticeable change.

There is also a difference in design on the front. Unlike the iPhone 12 that has a slit for the earpiece on the same line as the sensors and front-facing camera, the iPhone 13 has its slit closer to the frame. Other design changes reported include a slightly thicker body and a smaller notch.

While these images look legit, we still advise that they be taken with a pinch of salt until more evidence surfaces.

Ming-Chi Kuo a known analyst has just revealed a few interesting details regarding the upcoming Apple iPhone 13 series smartphone and future iPhones. He believes that the iPhone 13 Pro variant will sport an ultra wide angle lens that supports autofocus.

According to a 9To5Mac report, the analyst believes that this year’s iPhone 13 Pro’s ultra wide angle sensor will also arrive with autofocus. This is a change from the previous generation’s fixed focus, which doesn’t let users change focus to a particular object. In other words, the addition of an autofocus on the ultra wide angle lens would enable users to have more options when taking stills or videos.

Furthermore, the analyst also added that the ultra wide angle camera on the iPhone 13 Pro will also have six elements instead of just five. This would likely translate to the smartphone being capable of capturing better pictures or video recordings. Notably, Kuo claimed that while only the Pro model from this year will received the benefits of the autofocus on the ultra wide angle sensor, future iPhones starting from the next year will also receive this upgrade.

Meaning, the Cupertino based giant will bring the feature to all iPhone models in 2022. Apple iPhone 13 series is reported to hit the stores this fall. The second-gen 5G smartphones from the Cupertino-based tech giant are expected to go official in September like the previous years in recent times (except 2020). Ahead of the official announcement, their alleged model numbers have been revealed.

The upcoming Apple iPhone 13 series seems to have been certified by EEC (Eurasian Economic Commission). The lineup is expected to include four models, namely iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Mini.

However, the following seven model numbers have been listed on EEC.

Unfortunately, the EEC certification does not reveal anything else. But we do know some characteristics of these handsets, thanks to multiple reports.

The iPhone 13 series is reported to feature the same design as the current-gen iPhone 12 models. However, the new lineup may come with a slightly smaller notch and possible better camera performance.

Most importantly, the iPhone 13 Mini could be the last-ever mini iPhone due to poor reception of the iPhone 12 Mini. Also, the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max may finally come equipped with a 120Hz ProMotion display.

In a nutshell, the iPhone 13 series will be a minor upgrade over the current-gen iPhone 12 series.

The upcoming Apple iPhone 13 lineup will apparently arrive with certain changes, with a slightly thicker body and a larger camera bump compared to the last year’s iPhone 12 series,as per a new report.

According to a MacRumors report, the new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro models from the Cupertino based giant will feature a thickness of 7.57mm, which is up from the 7.4mm thickness of the iPhone 12 models. This marks a modest increase of 0.17mm that would realistically not be noticeable to the average user. Although, the one thing that will be a bit more notable will be the larger camera bump on the rear of the new models.

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro will have camera bumps that protrude more than its predecesors. While the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro have a camera bump hieght of 1.5mm and 1,7mm respectively, the iPhone 13 is expected to arrive with a taller 2.51mm camera bump. On the other hand, the iPhone 13 Pro will have an even larger 3.65mm camera bump. A probably reason for the rising thickness of the camera bump is likely to prevent the lenses from protruding as much on the iPhone 13 models.

In simpler terms, the company is making changes in the design to have the camera bump be thicker rather than have the individual lenses protrude as much on the upcoming iPhone models. This would also allow the lenses to sit closer to a flush position within the device’s body. While Apple is considering to make slight changes in the overall design, the most noticeable will no doubtedly be with the iPhone 13 Pro and its camera bump. New images have recently surfaced online that are apparently the mockup for the next gen Apple iPhone 13. This mockup has revealed that the notch on the front would be smaller, and will also have new positions for its earpiece and front facing camera.

According to images shared by MacOtakara (Via MacRumors), the iPhone 13 Pro from the Cupertino based giant will feature a 6.1 inch display. Overall, the device would also arrive with minimal changes on the front, including the repositioned earpiece and selfie camera. Although, these changes are in line with previous leaks and reports that showcased a similar design. Furthermore, the alleged iPhone 13 Pro mockup is reportedly based on leaked design drawings that are circulated among case manufacturers.

For those unaware, case makers usually use mockups well ahead of the actual release of smartphones. Previous reports had also revealed that the glass cut out for the iPhone 13 will also have a camera positioned on the left side of the notch. MacOtaka also shared specific dimensions of the upcoming iPhone 13 Pro’s notch as well. In comparison to the iPhone 12 Pro, the mockup suggests that the newer variant will have a 5.35mm height over the 5.30mm of the 12 Pro, but will have a 26.8mm width on the 13 Pro over the 34.83mm in the predecessor.

Unfortunately, this is still an unconfirmed report so take it with a pinch of salt for now. We also have no way of confirming the news or the finer details regarding the Apple iPhone 13 lineup at the moment. However, the higher end variants are rumored to feature LTPO display panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and a faster A15 chipset along with other generational improvements as well. Even before the iPhone 12 series launched, we saw a very early report on the iPhone 13 devices. Since then, the devices have been appearing on the reader of leaks frequently. info. One of the major talking points about the devices is the presence of a 120Hz LTPO display with a smaller notch. Today, Macrumors has brought their alleged front glass panel images.

As per the report, the iPhone 13 models will have the same sizes as before- 5.4-inch, 6.1-inch, and 6.7-inch across the models. Speaking of which, Apple is expected to name them as iPhone 13(first two sizes), iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Out of this, the ‘Pro’ variants are said to get a few upgrades. Talking about the smaller notch, the alleged front panel images show that the earpiece/speaker has moved to the top of the device. Early reports said that Apple isn’t in a mood to ditch the notch anytime soon and the images corroborate with that.

Apart from the notch, the iPhone 13 series is said to be similar to the predecessors. However, you can expect upgrades in the internals like the Apple A15 chipset, improved ultrawide camera, Qualcomm X60 5G modem, storage up to 1TB, and support for Wi-Fi 6E.

As mentioned above, the biggest change would be the  LTPO display panel with a 120Hz refresh rate support on the ‘Pro’ variants. Also, you might have wondered is there a 5.42-inch version for the iPhone 13 models.

Well, reports say that Apple still plans to launch a smaller version despite lower sales but it might do it under a different name say, iPhone 12S.

Apple recently launched its iPhone 12 lineup and the devices have been well-received in the market. The company is now working on its successor, the iPhone 13 series, which will be officially launched around September this year.

While it is still a long time before we get this new iPhone lineup, some details about the iPhone 13 series have started surfacing online. In the latest report, the upcoming device’s screen details have been revealed.

The report claims that the iPhone 13 Pro will come with a 120Hz refresh rate LTPO OLED display. We expect the company to continue with the same display size as the existing models but the report says that the notch on top of the screen will be smaller.

The company is also rumored to include an in-display fingerprint in the iPhone 13 models, along with support for Wi-Fi 6E. However, a recent report claims that the prototype of the upcoming phones doesn’t include in-display sensor.

It is also reported that Apple could launch a 1TB storage variant of the iPhone 13 Pro this year. This is twice the storage capacity when compared to the highest capacity model in the current iPhone 12 lineup.

It is not confirmed if the company plans to increase the storage capacity in the base model, which is currently at 128GB. A recent report revealed that the company is planning to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon X60 5G modem for the upcoming lineup.

The iPhone 13 Pro models are also expected to feature an upgraded Ultra Wide camera lens with a wider ƒ/1.8 aperture and autofocus, compared to ƒ/2.4 on iPhone 12 models. The devices may be a bit heavier as Apple plans to add higher capacity battery.

Latest Apple iPhone 13 leaks have just surfaced online that have suggested new and interesting upcoming features in the next gen series. The 2021 iPhone will apparently feature a portless design, along with astrophotography and other features.

According to a PhoneArena report, known tipster Max Weinbach and YouTuber Jon Prosser released new info regarding the iPhone 13. As per the former, the iPhone 13 Pro will feature a slightly more texturized soft matte back panel for better and more comfortable grip. The tipster further added that the high end 2021 iPhone would also sport an LTPO always on display, with a 120Hz high refresh rate panel, similar to the ProMotion display on the iPad Pro, for a smooth user interface and interaction with the device.

Notably, the Apple Watch Series 6 already uses the same LTPO screen for an always on display. Weinbach added that the “Always-On Display will have minimal customizability. Current design basically looks like a toned down lock screen. Clock and battery charge is always visible. Notifications seem to be displayed using a bar and icons. Upon receiving, the notification will pop up normally except that the screen will not entirely light up. Instead, it will display just like you’re used to right now, except dimmed down and only temporarily.”

Furthermore, the Apple iPhone 13 will be aesthetically similar to the iPhone 12 series in terms of design, while also featuring the astrophotography feature seen in the Google Pixel smartphones. For those unaware, this feature enables users to take clear photos of the night sky, the stars and moon as well. Reportedly, simply pointing your iPhone up to the sky will automatically activate the astrophotography mode with longer exposure times and additional internal processing. Apple’s iPhone 13(Tentative) is already the talk of the town. It has been just two months since the predecessors’ launch, but the next iteration is hitting the news constantly. Now, a report sheds more light on the display tech of the supposed ‘Pro’ variants.

According to a Korean report, Apple is ready to load up at least the Top 2 models of the next iPhone with a 120Hz OLED display. Besides, Samsung Display(Pro Max, mini) and LG Display(all except Pro Max) are said to be the Prime suppliers for iPhone 13 series’ displays.

Precisely, the Top-2 ‘Pro’ variants- iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max to feature the long-rumored 120Hz ProMotion display. This is in contrast to an early report that said all the models will have the high-refresh rates.

Anyway, the base variants(iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13) will reportedly have LTPS while the Pro variants with 120Hz will feature the LTPO display. That is, LTPS is Low-Temperature Polysilicon while the LTPO is Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide.

Simply put, Apple has gone with LTPO and an LTPO-TFT backplane to evade the power consumption caused due to the 120Hz. By doing so, it aims to get the best of both worlds- Advantages of LTPS and less power hungriness. If the report is true, iPhone 13 will have the following OLED display specs:

• iPhone 13 mini- 5.4-inch LTPS display, 60Hz refresh rate.
• iPhone 13- 6.1-inch LTPS display, 60Hz refresh rate.
• iPhone 13 Pro- 6.1-inch LTPO display, 120Hz refresh rate.
• iPhone 13 Pro Max- 6.7-inch LTPO display, 120Hz refresh rate.

Further, the LTPO backplane will also allow Apple to vary the refresh rate as low as 1Hz. This not only aids the Always-on scenarios well but ensures you get more screen-on time. We saw this on the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Apple also uses them on the Apple Watch 5 and Watch 6.

The report also says that LTPO-TFT will mean SCM(supply-chain management) will grow and suppliers get more profit(more unit price). However, Apple has to deal with changes in corresponding parts such as Driver IC, RF-PCB, OLED emitters etc.

So far, iPhone 13 series is on course to launch around September-2021 and is already rumored to bring improvements like an upgrade in ultra-wide lens, A15 bionic SoC, up to 1TB storage.

Tech giant, Apple is on course to release its revolutionary iPhone 13 series and return to its regular iPhone announcement schedule in 2021, according to industry expert Ming-Chi Kuo. The implication of this announcement is that the iPhone 13 lineup of smartphones is projected to berth at the end of Q3, 2021, around the end of September 2021.

Heavily impacted by the rampant coronavirus pandemic this year, Apple was forced to shift the launch of its new flagships back so as to accommodate the release of the iPhone 12, iPhone12 Pro, the iPhone 12 mini, and 12 Pro Max, between October and November 2020.

Kuo also played down concerns about the pace of production of the critical A15 chip by TSMC and expects a ramping of efforts by the chipmaker to meet expected production milestones for the A15 chip.

It would seem that only a minimal effect was felt by Apple as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, as its 2020 lineup of iPhones is doing quite well in the market at this time. The iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone Pro Max have already exceeded short-term sales forecasts and the trend is expected to continue up till the summer of 2021 when the iPhone 13 lineup will be unveiled.

The iPhone 13 series slated for a 2021 launch date comes with a marked divergence in design and technology from previous iPhone models. Information culled from diverse sources including product leaks and patents, point to some new features for the phone. The iPhone 13 is expected to be port-less, by dropping the Lightning connector, will have MagSafe for accessories and charging and it will also have potentially a four-camera array together with LiDAR capabilities.

Apple could also possibly reduce the notch, or remove it altogether from the phone, incorporate Touch ID in the display or power button, and having a 120Hz screen with LTPO, among several exciting features.
