<p>Fresh leaks are giving us what may be our best look yet at <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/">Apple</a>&#8216;s iPhone 18 Pro lineup. Images shared online show alleged iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max dummy units in four finishes: Dark Cherry, Light Blue, Black, and Silver.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/image-4-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-741109" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/image-4-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/image-4-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/image-4-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/image-4-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/image-4-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/image-4-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/image-4.jpg 1326w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>If the leaks are accurate, Apple could be moving away from the conservative color palette that has defined the Pro lineup for years. That&#8217;s not entirely surprising after the positive reaction to last year&#8217;s Cosmic Orange finish.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/HJ33zRPaoAAKig_-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-741104" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/HJ33zRPaoAAKig_-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/HJ33zRPaoAAKig_-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/HJ33zRPaoAAKig_-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/HJ33zRPaoAAKig_-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/HJ33zRPaoAAKig_-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/HJ33zRPaoAAKig_-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/HJ33zRPaoAAKig_-746x420.jpg 746w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/HJ33zRPaoAAKig_.jpg 1633w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>Beyond the new colors, there doesn&#8217;t seem to be much happening on the outside. The dummy units closely resemble the iPhone 17 Pro, with the same overall shape and familiar camera layout. At least based on what&#8217;s leaked so far, Apple appears to be sticking with a design that already works rather than reinventing it.</p>

<p>The latest batch of images also includes what look like rear chassis components, complete with SIM trays and internal hardware. As always with supply-chain leaks, there&#8217;s room for skepticism. These could be early test units or even accessory-related mockups. Still, the fact that the colors line up across multiple leaked parts has made some observers take the reports more seriously.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="768" height="1024" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/HJ8S6veaUAAjk2G-768x1024.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-741107" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/HJ8S6veaUAAjk2G-768x1024.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/HJ8S6veaUAAjk2G-225x300.jpg 225w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/HJ8S6veaUAAjk2G-696x928.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/HJ8S6veaUAAjk2G-1068x1424.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/HJ8S6veaUAAjk2G-315x420.jpg 315w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/HJ8S6veaUAAjk2G.jpg 1086w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></figure></div>

<p>Most of the big changes are expected to happen under the hood. Rumors continue to point to an A20 Pro chip built on a 2nm process, camera upgrades, and possible tweaks to the Dynamic Island. None of that has been confirmed, but it&#8217;s broadly in line with what analysts and supply-chain sources have been suggesting for months.</p>

<p>There&#8217;s also growing expectation that Apple will introduce its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/05/31/iphone-fold-dummy-spotted-in-white-finish/">long-rumored foldable iPhone</a> alongside the iPhone 18 family in September 2026. Whether it ends up being called the iPhone Fold, iPhone Ultra, or something else entirely remains an open question.</p>

<p>For now, the color options are generating most of the conversation. Apple&#8217;s Pro models have traditionally played it safe, so a darker red finish and a brighter blue could help the lineup feel a little more distinctive. If these leaks hold up, the iPhone 18 Pro may end up feeling familiar in design but noticeably different in personality—and for many users, that might be enough.</p>

<p>The iPhone 18 Pro has been making multiple headlines over the past few days. Its dummy units recently surfaced in four colors, including a new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/05/30/phone-18-pro-dummy-units-reveal-four-color-options-including-dark-cherry/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">dark red option</a>, while the device is also expected to feature a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/05/30/iphone-18-pros-moving-lens-camera-system-is-expensive-but-apple-plans-to-absorb-the-cost/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">variable-aperture camera</a>.</p>

<p>A fresh leak from Chinese tipster <em>Digital Chat Station (DCS)</em> now adds more details to the picture.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/iPhone-18-Pro-series-AI-generated-render-1024x576.png?x44794" alt="iPhone 18 Pro series AI-generated render" class="wp-image-737701" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/iPhone-18-Pro-series-AI-generated-render-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/iPhone-18-Pro-series-AI-generated-render-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/iPhone-18-Pro-series-AI-generated-render-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/iPhone-18-Pro-series-AI-generated-render-1536x864.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/iPhone-18-Pro-series-AI-generated-render-696x391.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/iPhone-18-Pro-series-AI-generated-render-1068x600.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/iPhone-18-Pro-series-AI-generated-render-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/iPhone-18-Pro-series-AI-generated-render.png 1672w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>iPhone 18 Pro series AI-generated render</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Earlier this year, we reported that the iPhone 18 Pro models are <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/01/14/iphone-18-display-sizes-dynamic-island-leak/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">tipped to debut the A20 Pro chip</a> built on a 2nm process. Camera upgrades, including a variable-aperture system and improved image sensors, were also said to be in testing.</p>

<p>A separate report further noted that Apple is expected to retain a triple 48MP camera setup, with the biggest change centered on the primary camera. Apple was also said to be considering <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/05/30/iphone-18-pros-moving-lens-camera-system-is-expensive-but-apple-plans-to-absorb-the-cost/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">absorbing the added cost</a> of the pricier camera hardware rather than passing it directly on to buyers.</p>

<h2><strong>iPhone 18 Pro battery will vary in China vs Global</strong></h2>

<p>Now, DCS has added a key piece to the puzzle: battery capacity. According to the leaker, the prototype battery for the Chinese version of the iPhone 18 Pro is rated at around 4,056mAh, while the U.S. version is larger at approximately 4,288mAh.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Put it all together, and you&#8217;ve got a notable hardware jump over the current generation. DCS suggests this should, in theory, push the price up noticeably. The big question is whether Apple will hold the line on pricing to stay competitive, especially in key markets like China, where local rivals are gaining ground quickly.</p>

<p>The iPhone 18 Pro is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/12/22/iphone-18-pro-leak-suggests-apple-may-skip-major-design-changes/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">unlikely to receive a major redesign</a> this generation. Apple is reportedly saving something truly groundbreaking for its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/05/24/iphone-20-renders-bezel-less-curved-design-leak/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">20th-anniversary iPhone in 2027</a> instead.</p>

<p>As always with early prototype leaks, things can change before mass production begins. So take these details with a grain of salt.</p>

<p>New dummy models of the iPhone 18 Pro have surfaced online, offering what may be the clearest look yet at <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/">Apple</a>&#8216;s upcoming color lineup. The images, shared by well-known leaker Sonny Dickson, show four finishes that are expected to be available on the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="687" height="1024" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG2qbsAA8kFD-687x1024.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-740419" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG2qbsAA8kFD-687x1024.jpg 687w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG2qbsAA8kFD-201x300.jpg 201w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG2qbsAA8kFD-768x1145.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG2qbsAA8kFD-696x1037.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG2qbsAA8kFD-282x420.jpg 282w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG2qbsAA8kFD.jpg 828w" sizes="(max-width: 687px) 100vw, 687px" /></figure></div>

<p>At first glance, the overall design looks very familiar. The phones appear to retain the same general rear layout seen on the iPhone 17 Pro series, including the large camera bar. Most of the visual changes seem to be focused on color rather than hardware design.</p>

<p>The leaked models appear in Silver, Black, Light Blue, and Dark Cherry.</p>

<p>Silver looks largely unchanged from recent generations, while Black makes a return after several years of Apple experimenting with darker gray shades instead of a true black finish. That alone will probably make some long-time iPhone users happy.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped">
<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="828" height="905" data-id="740418" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG2zbkAAMOzd.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-740418" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG2zbkAAMOzd.jpg 828w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG2zbkAAMOzd-274x300.jpg 274w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG2zbkAAMOzd-768x839.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG2zbkAAMOzd-696x761.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG2zbkAAMOzd-384x420.jpg 384w" sizes="(max-width: 828px) 100vw, 828px" /></figure>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="706" height="706" data-id="740417" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG2qa8AASpRo.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-740417" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG2qa8AASpRo.jpg 706w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG2qa8AASpRo-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG2qa8AASpRo-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG2qa8AASpRo-696x696.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG2qa8AASpRo-420x420.jpg 420w" sizes="(max-width: 706px) 100vw, 706px" /></figure>
</figure>

<p>Light Blue is perhaps the most recognizable of the new colors. It shares some similarities with the Sierra Blue finish that debuted on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-13-pro/">iPhone 13 Pro</a>.</p>

<p>The most unusual option is Dark Cherry. Depending on the lighting, it seems to shift between deep red and purple tones. If the final production version looks similar to these dummies, it could easily become one of the more distinctive colors Apple has offered on a Pro model in recent years.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="581" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG23aYAApWZV-1024x581.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-740416" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG23aYAApWZV-1024x581.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG23aYAApWZV-300x170.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG23aYAApWZV-768x435.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG23aYAApWZV-696x395.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG23aYAApWZV-1068x605.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG23aYAApWZV-741x420.jpg 741w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HJeNG23aYAApWZV.jpg 1263w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>Of course, these are still dummy units primarily created for accessory manufacturers, so the final colors could end up looking slightly different once Apple begins mass production.</p>

<p>Beyond the colors, previous leaks have pointed to several hardware upgrades for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. Rumored changes include <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/03/30/iphone-18-pro-leaked-screen-protectors-showcase-redesigned-dynamic-island/">a smaller Dynamic Island</a>, a new variable-aperture main camera that relies on a more complex and expensive <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/05/30/iphone-18-pros-moving-lens-camera-system-is-expensive-but-apple-plans-to-absorb-the-cost/">moving lens system</a>, Apple&#8217;s A20 Pro chip, and some AI-related enhancements tied to iOS 27.</p>

<p>For now, though, the color options are getting most of the attention. Apple&#8217;s industrial design language has remained fairly consistent over the past few generations, so new finishes are often one of the easiest ways to distinguish one year&#8217;s Pro models from the next.</p>

<p>As always, it is worth treating dummy-based leaks with some caution. But if these models are accurate, Apple appears to be sticking with a familiar design while introducing a few fresh color choices for 2026.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/">Apple</a>&#8216;s next Pro iPhone models could be getting one of the biggest camera hardware upgrades in years. According to recent supply-chain reports, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/iphone-18-pro/">iPhone 18 Pro</a> series is expected to feature a new variable-aperture main camera, bringing a level of hardware flexibility that has traditionally been more common on dedicated cameras and a handful of Android flagships.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-713020" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-2048x1152.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1920x1080.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The upgrade is reportedly not cheap. Industry sources claim the new moving lens system carries an average selling price roughly 50% higher than the premium 7P lens currently used in Apple&#8217;s Pro iPhones.</p>

<p>What&#8217;s interesting is that, despite the higher hardware costs, there are currently no strong indications that Apple plans to significantly raise prices for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. Of course, launch pricing is still many months away, so that could change. But for now, the reports suggest Apple may be willing to absorb at least some of the additional cost.</p>

<p>The camera system itself is expected to remain familiar in many ways. Current leaks point to Apple retaining a triple 48MP setup, with the biggest change centered on the primary camera. A variable aperture would allow the lens to physically adjust how much light enters the sensor, potentially improving low-light photography while also offering better control over depth of field in brighter conditions.</p>

<p>If implemented well, it could give photographers more flexibility without requiring any extra effort from the user. Most people may never even notice the hardware working in the background, but the resulting images could benefit from it.</p>

<p>Beyond the camera, the phones are also expected to debut with Apple&#8217;s next-generation A20 Pro chip and a refreshed version of the Camera app in iOS 27. Some reports have also hinted at new color options, including a darker cherry-inspired finish.</p>

<p>For now, though, the variable-aperture camera is shaping up to be the headline feature. Apple has generally preferred to rely on software and computational photography improvements over dramatic camera hardware changes, which is part of what makes this particular rumor stand out a bit more than usual.</p>

<p>As always with supply-chain leaks, it&#8217;s worth keeping expectations in check until Apple makes things official. Still, if these reports prove accurate, the iPhone 18 Pro could end up delivering one of the more meaningful camera upgrades the series has seen in recent years.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple</a> isn&#8217;t expected to announce the iPhone 18 Pro for another few months, but luxury customization company Caviar is already taking pre-orders for its modified versions of the unreleased device.</p>

<p>The brand, which is known for replacing standard smartphone glass and aluminum with materials like gold, titanium, and crocodile leather, just announced its new Royal Colors collection. It is a series of custom <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/iphone-18-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">iPhone 18 Pro</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/iphone-18-pro-max/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pro Max</a> models that you can reserve starting May 20.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="572" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Caviar-Royal-Colors-collection-1024x572.jpg?x44794" alt="Caviar Royal Colors collection" class="wp-image-738569" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Caviar-Royal-Colors-collection-1024x572.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Caviar-Royal-Colors-collection-300x167.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Caviar-Royal-Colors-collection-768x429.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Caviar-Royal-Colors-collection-1536x857.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Caviar-Royal-Colors-collection-2048x1143.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Caviar-Royal-Colors-collection-696x388.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Caviar-Royal-Colors-collection-1068x596.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Caviar-Royal-Colors-collection-1920x1072.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Caviar-Royal-Colors-collection-753x420.jpg 753w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>Reserving one of these phones now does not mean you get to see what the iPhone 18 Pro looks like ahead of time. Instead, you are essentially paying in advance for the custom exterior. Once Apple officially releases the iPhone 18 Pro series later this year, Caviar will purchase the retail devices, remove the original casing, and install the new materials before shipping them out to buyers.</p>

<p>The Royal Colors collection is based on historical themes, with four different designs available. The Imperator model uses purple crocodile leather and 24-karat gold plating, featuring a pattern meant to look like a Roman toga. The King model takes a different approach, using white crocodile leather and a silver-toned body that incorporates a French fleur-de-lis motif.</p>

<p>For a darker aesthetic, the Black Prince model is themed around medieval armor. It uses black leather and a matte titanium upper panel with a black PVD coating. The fourth option, the Pharaoh model, uses blue crocodile leather and 24-karat gold plating with an Art Deco palm pattern inspired by ancient Egyptian artifacts.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-17-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">iPhone 17 Pro</a> series’ “Starry Orange” finish has been one of the most talked-about iPhone colors in years. It’s also inspired a wave of copycat shades across multiple Android brands. We’re looking at you, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/honor-win/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Honor</a>. </p>

<p>If a new leak is anything to go by, Apple may be planning a repeat performance next year with the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.</p>

<p>According to leaker <em>Digital Chat Station</em>, Apple is testing a new deep, more refined red finish for the next Pro iPhones. The shade is said to continue Apple’s recent strategy of turning bold colorways into headline features rather than secondary options.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/iPhone-18-Pro-in-Deep-Red-1.webp?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-734348" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/iPhone-18-Pro-in-Deep-Red-1.webp 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/iPhone-18-Pro-in-Deep-Red-1-300x200.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/iPhone-18-Pro-in-Deep-Red-1-768x512.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/iPhone-18-Pro-in-Deep-Red-1-696x464.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/iPhone-18-Pro-in-Deep-Red-1-630x420.webp 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>What’s even more interesting is that some Android manufacturers have reportedly already started experimenting with similar tones. Copycat cycle, meet déjà vu.</p>

<h2><strong>What can you expect from the iPhone 18 Pro?</strong></h2>

<p>The iPhone 18 Pro is also rumored to feature a higher screen-to-body ratio. Leaks claim Apple is working to shrink the front cutout area, reducing its width from 20.76mm to 13.49mm. That’s roughly a 35 percent drop.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The result should be a slightly more immersive display, though it’s the kind of change you’ll likely notice more on a spec sheet than in day-to-day use.</p>

<p>On the performance side, the iPhone 18 Pro series is expected to debut Apple’s A20 Pro chip. It will be among the first set of smartphone processors to be built on TSMC’s 2nm process. </p>

<p>This year, Apple is also expected to launch iPhone Ultra, Apple’s first foldable, alongside the iPhone 18 series.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, there’s still some time before Apple officially announces the upcoming phones, but more details are likely to surface through unofficial channels as we get closer to launch.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/">Apple</a> introduced the Dynamic Island with the iPhone 14 Pro series back in 2022 and has kept its dimensions untouched since then. Now, leaked images of screen protectors for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series suggest that the Dynamic Island could finally see a design update in 2026.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="943" height="530" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/iphone-17-pro-vs-iphone-18-pro-dynamic-island.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-732654" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/iphone-17-pro-vs-iphone-18-pro-dynamic-island.jpg 943w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/iphone-17-pro-vs-iphone-18-pro-dynamic-island-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/iphone-17-pro-vs-iphone-18-pro-dynamic-island-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/iphone-17-pro-vs-iphone-18-pro-dynamic-island-696x391.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/iphone-17-pro-vs-iphone-18-pro-dynamic-island-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 943px) 100vw, 943px" /></figure></div>

<p>The company has been <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/03/27/apples-patent-under-display-biometrics-gesture-iphone/">exploring under-display solutions</a> for quite some time, but judging by its track record, a shift to a hole-punch design seems unlikely until it fully addresses the common issues associated with UDC technology.</p>

<p>According to the latest leak, the infrared flood illuminator, part of the Face ID system, may finally move under the display. However, the infrared camera will still require a cutout. This change reportedly makes the Dynamic Island around 35% smaller than previous generations, which would be a welcome improvement. The screen protectors also reinforce <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/09/14/iphone-18-leak-hints-at-smaller-dynamic-island-but-under-display-face-id-still-missing/">earlier leaks</a> pointing to a smaller Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro series.</p>

<p>While there’s no explanation for why parts of Apple’s Face ID system still require a cutout, previous reports suggest there may be more at play than just technical limitations. Apple’s 20th anniversary iPhone is expected to arrive next year, and the company is reportedly planning <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/05/15/apples-20th-anniversary-iphone-to-bring-wild-upgrades-no-bezels-no-cutout-and-a-100-silicon-battery/">major upgrades</a> to mark the occasion. In that context, a smaller Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro lineup wouldn’t be surprising, even if Apple has already found ways to move to a hole-punch design without compromising functionality.</p>

<p>Elsewhere, the iPhone 18 Pro series is expected to feature a 2nm-based A20 Pro chip, along with a variable aperture system for the main camera. So while Apple may be saving some of its more “groundbreaking” changes for 2027, the upcoming Pro models should still have enough to generate excitement.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/iphone-18-pro-screen-protector-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-732652" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/iphone-18-pro-screen-protector-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/iphone-18-pro-screen-protector-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/iphone-18-pro-screen-protector-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/iphone-18-pro-screen-protector-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/iphone-18-pro-screen-protector-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/iphone-18-pro-screen-protector-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/iphone-18-pro-screen-protector-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/iphone-18-pro-screen-protector.jpg 1792w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>There’s still some time before Apple officially unveils the iPhone 18 Pro series, but more details are likely to surface through unofficial channels as we get closer to launch.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-713020" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-2048x1152.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1920x1080.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>In his February 22 edition of the Power On, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman shared new details about the color options currently being tested for the upcoming <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/02/23/iphone-18-pro-could-get-another-selfie-camera-upgrade-in-2026/">iPhone 18 Pro</a> lineup, as well as Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone.</p>

<h2>A new red for the Pro models?</h2>

<p>According to Gurman’s supply-chain sources, Apple is experimenting with a “deep red” finish for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. If it makes it to production, it would be the first time a Pro model has launched in red.</p>

<p>This isn’t expected to be a bright red finish. Instead, the tone is described as darker, closer to burgundy or wine. Earlier rumors mentioning brown or purplish shades may have been referencing variations of this same concept.</p>

<p>Apple has occasionally used bold colors to differentiate Pro models in recent years. Last year’s standout Pro color reportedly performed well in some markets, and it wouldn’t be surprising if Apple continues leaning into distinctive flagship hues.</p>

<p>That said, nothing is final. Color testing happens months ahead of launch, and some finishes never make it past internal prototypes.</p>

<h2>Foldable stays conservative</h2>

<p>On the other end of the spectrum is Apple’s first foldable iPhone, often referred to as the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/02/03/first-ever-foldable-iphone-to-rival-foldables-from-china-in-battery-capacity/">iPhone Fold</a>. Gurman suggests Apple is planning to keep things simple for its debut foldable. Instead of experimenting with bold finishes, the company is said to be focusing on classic tones like black, dark gray, and silver or white.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/The-iPhone-Fold-may-be-doomed-to-flop-and-it-has-nothing-to-do-with-Samsung-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-728163" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/The-iPhone-Fold-may-be-doomed-to-flop-and-it-has-nothing-to-do-with-Samsung-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/The-iPhone-Fold-may-be-doomed-to-flop-and-it-has-nothing-to-do-with-Samsung-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/The-iPhone-Fold-may-be-doomed-to-flop-and-it-has-nothing-to-do-with-Samsung-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/The-iPhone-Fold-may-be-doomed-to-flop-and-it-has-nothing-to-do-with-Samsung-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/The-iPhone-Fold-may-be-doomed-to-flop-and-it-has-nothing-to-do-with-Samsung-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/The-iPhone-Fold-may-be-doomed-to-flop-and-it-has-nothing-to-do-with-Samsung-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/The-iPhone-Fold-may-be-doomed-to-flop-and-it-has-nothing-to-do-with-Samsung.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>For now, the picture forming is fairly clear: the Pro models may take a bit of a design risk with a darker red option, while the foldable plays it safe for its first outing. If accurate, it would be a small but telling glimpse into how Apple is positioning its next-generation hardware.</p>

<p>According to a new tip from Chinese leaker WhyLab, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/iphone-18-pro/">iPhone 18 Pro</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/iphone-18-pro-max/">iPhone 18 Pro Max</a> could feature upgraded front-facing cameras. The leak claims that both Pro models may switch to 24MP selfie sensors. If that happens, it would be another step up in resolution. The iPhone 17 lineup moved to 18MP front cameras, ending Apple’s long run with 12MP sensors that stretched from the iPhone 11 through the iPhone 16 lineup.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-713020" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-2048x1152.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1920x1080.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>A jump to 24MP would likely improve detail in selfies and video calls, and could also help with portrait shots and low-light performance. That said, WhyLab described the information as a strong possibility rather than confirmed specifications, so it’s still too early to treat this as final.</p>

<p>Previous reports from JP Morgan and supply chain sources have also <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/01/05/apple-iphone-17-24mp-selfie-camera/">mentioned</a> the possibility of a 24MP front camera for the iPhone 18 Pro models. If accurate, it would fit Apple’s usual pattern of gradual hardware upgrades rather than major one-year leaps.</p>

<p>On the design front, big changes don’t appear to be on the table. However, the Dynamic Island could reportedly become smaller. Some recent leaks suggest Apple may reduce the width of the cutout by around 35%, possibly by moving certain Face ID components, such as the IR flood illuminator, under the display. This would result in a slimmer pill-shaped cutout while keeping the core TrueDepth system intact.</p>

<p>Earlier rumors suggested Apple might experiment with a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/01/17/iphone-18-pro-renders-design-changes-colors-features/">top-left punch-hole camera</a> or <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/05/05/iphone-18-pro-under-display-face-id-redesign/">fully under-display Face ID</a>, but those claims have since been questioned, with some reports blaming translation errors for the confusion. For now, a smaller centered Dynamic Island seems to be the more consistent expectation.</p>

<p>There’s still plenty of time before the iPhone 18 series launches. likely in September 2026, and plans can always change. But if these early leaks are accurate, Apple’s next Pro models could continue focusing on steady improvements to the front camera experience.</p>

<p>Memory prices <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/01/27/apple-bends-samsung-and-sk-hynix-hike-lpddr-prices-by-up-to-100-percent/">have been climbing for a while</a>, largely because of strong demand from AI infrastructure and data centers. That usually spells trouble for smartphone pricing. But if recent analyst notes are accurate, Apple isn’t planning to pass those increases directly to buyers of its next Pro iPhones.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-713020" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-2048x1152.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1920x1080.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>According to GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu, Apple intends to keep the starting prices of the iPhone 18 Pro and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/02/06/iphone-18-pro-max-battery-5000mah-leak/">iPhone 18 Pro Max</a> in line with their predecessors. That would mean $1,099 and $1,199 respectively for base 256GB configurations, assuming no last-minute changes.</p>

<p>The information comes from supply chain checks shared in a note reviewed by MacRumors. Pu suggests Apple has been negotiating aggressively with memory suppliers, including Samsung and SK Hynix, to soften the impact of rising DRAM and NAND prices. Similar negotiations are reportedly taking place around display panels and camera modules.</p>

<h2 class="has-text-align-center"><em>In short, Apple appears willing to absorb some of the pressure.</em></h2>

<p>Apple has also shifted to quarterly memory contract negotiations instead of semi-annual agreements, giving it more flexibility, though that could also mean exposure to further price bumps later in 2026.</p>

<p>Even so, Kuo believes Apple’s strategy is clear: keep entry pricing stable for the Pro models, even if that trims margins slightly in the short term.</p>

<p>That wouldn’t be surprising. Apple’s Services business continues to grow steadily, bringing in over $30 billion in a single quarter recently. A stable hardware price helps protect market share, and any margin pressure on devices can be offset over time through ecosystem revenue.</p>

<p>The broader industry isn’t quite as insulated. IDC has warned that smartphone prices could rise by 6–8% this year due to component shortages. Meanwhile, Samsung executives have already hinted at cost pressures ahead of upcoming launches.</p>

<p>For now, the iPhone 18 Pro lineup is expected to arrive in September 2026. Nothing is official yet, and pricing decisions often come down to late-stage market conditions. But if these reports hold true, Apple seems prepared to lean on its scale.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/">Apple</a> looks set to make a small but noticeable change to the front of its next Pro iPhone. As per the latest leak, the iPhone 18 Pro could arrive with a smaller Dynamic Island, trimming down a design element that has stayed almost untouched for years.</p>

<p>The Dynamic Island first appeared on the iPhone 14 Pro and, physically at least, it has barely changed since then. Even on the current iPhone 17 Pro, the pill-shaped cutout is still wide enough to be clearly visible during videos, games, or any content that pushes right up to the top of the display. Apple has done a lot with it in software, but the hardware footprint has remained the same.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="691" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/900＿G＿OgEOnXoAAyUvP-1024x691.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-724645" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/900＿G＿OgEOnXoAAyUvP-1024x691.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/900＿G＿OgEOnXoAAyUvP-300x202.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/900＿G＿OgEOnXoAAyUvP-768x518.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/900＿G＿OgEOnXoAAyUvP-696x469.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/900＿G＿OgEOnXoAAyUvP-1068x720.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/900＿G＿OgEOnXoAAyUvP-623x420.jpg 623w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/900＿G＿OgEOnXoAAyUvP.jpg 1186w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>For a short while, it looked like Apple might go in a very different direction in 2026. Some early reports hinted at <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/01/17/iphone-18-pro-renders-design-changes-colors-features/">a small punch-hole camera</a> placed toward the top-left of the screen, with Face ID hidden entirely under the display. That now seems unlikely. According to leaker yeux1122, the company is taking a more measured approach instead.</p>

<p>The latest information suggests Apple may move an infrared sensor beneath the AMOLED panel. By doing that, the visible cutout would no longer need to be as wide.</p>

<p>A comparison image shared by the leaker shows the Dynamic Island shrinking from about 20.76mm on the iPhone 17 Pro to roughly 13.49mm on the iPhone 18 Pro. That’s close to a 35% reduction, mostly in width. The height stays more or less the same, and the cutout remains centered.</p>

<p>On paper, this doesn’t sound dramatic, but it could make a difference in daily use. There would be a bit more usable screen space on both sides of the cutout, and the Dynamic Island itself would feel less dominant when watching videos or playing games. Developers might also get more room to work with for live activities and alerts.</p>

<p>It looks like Apple is edging toward a cleaner, more immersive display. However, an Android-style hole-punch cutout seems more likely to be reserved for the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/12/09/iphone-18-series-is-confirmed-to-be-testing-under-display-face-id-claims-tipster/">20th anniversary iPhone</a>.</p>

<p>According to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/">Apple</a> analyst Jeff Pu, the company plans to launch the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and its first foldable iPhone in September 2026, while pushing the standard iPhone 18 models to spring 2027. The details were shared with investors and later reported by outlets including 9to5Mac.</p>

<p>On the hardware side, all three high-end models are said to feature 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro chip, reportedly built on a 2nm process. They are also expected to use Apple’s in-house C2 modem, marking a further shift away from third-party connectivity solutions.</p>

<p>Screen sizes are tipped to remain at 6.3 inches for the Pro and 6.9 inches for the Pro Max. Camera hardware is said to include three 48MP sensors, including a periscope telephoto lens. Face ID stays in place, though under-display components could further <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/12/18/iphone-18-pro-could-get-a-major-front-redesign-with-unconventional-hole-punch-camera-placement/">shrink the Dynamic Island</a>.</p>

<h2>iPhone Fold lacks Dynamic Island</h2>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/66385-139210-Squat-Fold-1-xl1-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-723876" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/66385-139210-Squat-Fold-1-xl1-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/66385-139210-Squat-Fold-1-xl1-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/66385-139210-Squat-Fold-1-xl1-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/66385-139210-Squat-Fold-1-xl1-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/66385-139210-Squat-Fold-1-xl1-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/66385-139210-Squat-Fold-1-xl1-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/66385-139210-Squat-Fold-1-xl1.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The bigger shift comes with the iPhone Fold. Apple’s first foldable is tipped to feature a 7.8-inch internal display paired with a 5.3-inch outer screen. Unlike the iPhone 18 series, it reportedly drops Face ID entirely and relies on Touch ID instead, possibly built into the power button. The body is said to combine titanium and aluminum, likely to balance durability, weight, and cost.</p>

<p>On the camera side, the foldable is expected to use a dual 48MP setup, likely consisting of a main and ultrawide sensor. Some earlier leaks have suggested Apple may skip a telephoto lens due to space constraints, which would not be unusual for the brand&#8217;s first-generation foldable.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="768" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/iphone-18-series-spec-pu-q82-w1440-h1080-1024x768.webp?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-723879" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/iphone-18-series-spec-pu-q82-w1440-h1080-1024x768.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/iphone-18-series-spec-pu-q82-w1440-h1080-300x225.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/iphone-18-series-spec-pu-q82-w1440-h1080-768x576.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/iphone-18-series-spec-pu-q82-w1440-h1080-696x522.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/iphone-18-series-spec-pu-q82-w1440-h1080-1068x801.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/iphone-18-series-spec-pu-q82-w1440-h1080-560x420.webp 560w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/iphone-18-series-spec-pu-q82-w1440-h1080-80x60.webp 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/iphone-18-series-spec-pu-q82-w1440-h1080-265x198.webp 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/iphone-18-series-spec-pu-q82-w1440-h1080.webp 1440w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>While selfie cameras were previously rumored to jump to 24MP, Pu now claims Apple will reuse the 18MP sensor seen in the iPhone 17 lineup. The iPhone Fold is expected to include two front-facing cameras &#8211; one on the cover display and another on the inner flexible screen. The absence of a Dynamic Island and the switch to Touch ID could result in a cleaner, more immersive experience, something iOS users have been waiting for on larger displays.</p>

<p>A new set of renders claims to show what <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple</a>’s next flagship phone might look like. <em>Jon Prosser</em> (of <em>Front Page Tech</em>) released a video today presenting alleged design updates for the<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/01/14/iphone-18-display-sizes-dynamic-island-leak/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> iPhone 18 Pro</a>, along with three possible new color options: burgundy, brown, and purple.</p>

<p>At first glance, the most obvious tweak is on the front of the device. According to the renders, Apple may finally be ready to shrink the long-standing pill-shaped cutout at the top of the screen. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped">

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Apple-iPhone-18-Pro-front-design.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" data-id="723819" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Apple-iPhone-18-Pro-front-design.jpg?x44794" alt="Apple-iPhone-18-Pro-front-design" class="wp-image-723819" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Apple-iPhone-18-Pro-front-design.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Apple-iPhone-18-Pro-front-design-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Apple-iPhone-18-Pro-front-design-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Apple-iPhone-18-Pro-front-design-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Apple-iPhone-18-Pro-front-design-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></a></figure>
</figure>

<p>The images suggest that some Face ID components have been moved underneath the display, allowing the company to reduce the notch area to a single hole. The front-facing camera is also shown relocated to the top left corner of the panel.</p>

<p>Even with these hardware changes, Prosser claims Dynamic Island isn’t going anywhere. Instead, it will move along with the selfie camera to the top-left. </p>

<p>Dynamic Island has been the central part of iPhones for years now, and it still will be for the iPhone 18 series. Just that, the actual space it occupies on the screen could be less intrusive. </p>

<h2><strong>Variable aperture camera, C2 modem, and more</strong></h2>

<p>The back of the phone will be getting a more technical upgrade. Prosser claims that the main camera on the iPhone 18 Pro could include a variable aperture system. </p>

<p>Unlike current iPhones, which rely entirely on software to simulate depth-of-field effects, a variable aperture would let the lens physically adjust how much light enters. That would make it possible to create more natural background blur and better low-light shots without leaning as heavily on digital processing.</p>

<p>However, this feature might not come to every model. Prosser notes that Apple could reserve the variable aperture system exclusively for the larger iPhone 18 Pro Max. </p>

<p>Internally, the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to bring more significant changes. The device is rumored to run on Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro chip. Just as important is the long-awaited switch to Apple’s own C2 modem.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Another small but interesting adjustment could be to the camera control button. According to the video, Apple might drop its current capacitive sensing technology and replace it with a simpler pressure-based mechanism. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Apple-iPhone-18-Pro-Variable-Aperture-Camera.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="476" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Apple-iPhone-18-Pro-Variable-Aperture-Camera.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-723823" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Apple-iPhone-18-Pro-Variable-Aperture-Camera.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Apple-iPhone-18-Pro-Variable-Aperture-Camera-300x159.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Apple-iPhone-18-Pro-Variable-Aperture-Camera-768x406.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Apple-iPhone-18-Pro-Variable-Aperture-Camera-696x368.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Apple-iPhone-18-Pro-Variable-Aperture-Camera-794x420.jpg 794w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></a></figure></div>

<p>As with any early leak, none of this is confirmed, and Apple’s plans could easily change before the iPhone 18 lineup is officially announced. Still, the renders offer a reasonable preview of the direction Apple might be heading with its next-generation phones. </p>

<p>While the iPhone 17 series only recently hit the market, early leaks around <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/">Apple</a>’s 2026 flagships are already starting to surface. A recent <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/12/18/iphone-18-pro-could-get-a-major-front-redesign-with-unconventional-hole-punch-camera-placement/">leak</a> hinted at an unconventional hole-punch camera placement for the iPhone 18 Pro models. However, the latest leak suggests fans hoping for a dramatic redesign may want to temper their expectations.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-713020" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-2048x1152.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1920x1080.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>According to Chinese leaker Fixed Focus Digital, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are unlikely to see any major exterior changes. The rear design, in particular, is said to remain largely unchanged, with Apple sticking to a familiar camera layout and overall look.</p>

<p>As for the rumor surrounding the introduction of under-display tech and the removal of the Dynamic Island, the latest report casts doubt on the timeline. Realistically, Apple is likely to preserve something “groundbreaking” for its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/10/23/apples-20th-anniversary-iphone-might-not-be-called-iphone-19-after-all/">20th anniversary iPhone</a>, set to arrive in 2027. So, if the 2026 iPhones appear as a minor refresh over the newly redesigned iPhone 17 lineup, it wouldn’t be too surprising. Apple is likely to continue using the current pill-shaped cutout design for at least another generation, while the UDC tech it’s known to have been working on for a while gets some final refinement.</p>

<p>That said, this is still very early in the product cycle. There&#8217;s still plenty of time before the 2026 iPhones enter mass production, a phase when supply chain details typically become clearer. Until then, plans could still change.</p>

<p>For now, the leak points to another evolutionary update rather than a visual overhaul—something Apple has leaned on repeatedly in recent years.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/">Apple</a>’s iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could bring a big change to the front design, according to a new report from The Information. The change would be one of the biggest shifts to the iPhone’s front layout in years.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="631" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/iPhone-18-koncept-1024x631.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-719823" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/iPhone-18-koncept-1024x631.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/iPhone-18-koncept-300x185.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/iPhone-18-koncept-768x474.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/iPhone-18-koncept-696x429.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/iPhone-18-koncept-1068x659.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/iPhone-18-koncept-681x420.jpg 681w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/iPhone-18-koncept-356x220.jpg 356w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/iPhone-18-koncept.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Apple introduced the notch with the iPhone X in 2017 and switched to the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro models in 2022. The current iPhone 17 lineup still uses a pill-shaped cutout for the front camera and Face ID, while under-display solutions <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/12/09/iphone-18-series-is-confirmed-to-be-testing-under-display-face-id-claims-tipster/">have been under development</a> for some time.</p>

<p>The latest report claims Apple is planning to place most of the Face ID hardware under the AMOLED display, leaving only a small cutout for the front-facing camera. Unlike the current centered Dynamic Island, that camera is said to move to the upper left corner of the screen.</p>

<p>If accurate, this would give the iPhone 18 Pro an asymmetrical front design. That would be a departure from Apple’s long-standing preference for centered cutouts and symmetrical layouts. Earlier rumors had suggested Apple would either keep the pill-shaped cutout or simply shrink it further, so this would mark a different direction.</p>

<p>Camera upgrades may also be coming to the back. At least one rear camera, likely the main sensor, is expected to gain a variable aperture. This would allow the camera to physically adjust how much light enters the lens, offering better control over depth of field and low-light shots.</p>

<p>The same report also mentions Apple’s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/12/14/apples-foldable-iphone-expected-to-boost-market/">foldable iPhone</a>. The device is said to feature a 5.3-inch display when folded and a larger 7.7-inch display when unfolded. The folded screen is expected to use a roughly 2:3 aspect ratio, while the unfolded display would shift closer to 4:3. This would make the device shorter in its folded form than some existing foldables.</p>

<p>Apple’s first foldable iPhone is now expected to launch alongside the iPhone 18 lineup in September 2026.</p>

<p>As with all early reports, plans could still change, but the details suggest Apple is experimenting with more noticeable design shifts than usual for its next flagship cycle.</p>

<p>We’re almost a year away from the iPhone 18 lineup, but <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/">Apple</a>’s early hardware tests are already making the rounds — and there are a few interesting additions.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-713020" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-2048x1152.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-1920x1080.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/iPhone-17-Pro-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The most eye-catching aspect is the camera. Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station claims Apple is deep into testing a variable-aperture main camera for both the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. Instead of being stuck at f/1.78, the phone would be able to open up for shallow-depth portrait shots and then stop down in bright conditions for more controlled detail.</p>

<p>While this isn’t the first time we’re hearing about this addition, its recurrence from different sources certainly reaffirms the possibility of this feature being included in the upcoming models. According to a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/10/17/iphone-18-pro-models-could-feature-a-variable-aperture-camera-for-better-low-light-shots/">previous report</a> from South Korea’s ET News, this camera feature has the highest chance of making the cut for 2026.</p>

<p>According to the tipster, Apple is also testing a hole-punch solution for the front camera on the iPhone 18 Pro models. The company has been <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/06/19/apple-may-finally-ditch-the-dynamic-island-in-iphone-18-pro-series-with-under-display-face-id/">exploring</a> under-display solutions as well, and it will be interesting to see if the Face ID system finally sits under the display, leaving a smaller hole-punch cutout for the selfie — similar to what almost all Android phones use.</p>

<p>While the camera layout isn’t changing much — Apple is reportedly sticking with the horizontal “deco” — there could be a much bigger visual twist on the back. The tipster talked about a “transparent” back panel. It’s a sharp departure from the current design language of iPhones.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="633" height="280" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/iPhone-18-Pro-leak-DCS.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-714401" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/iPhone-18-Pro-leak-DCS.png 633w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/iPhone-18-Pro-leak-DCS-300x133.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 633px) 100vw, 633px" /></figure></div>

<p>Apple made some significant changes this year to its Pro iPhones — both in terms of design and functionality — and it will be interesting to see if the company is finally increasing its focus on innovation. Nonetheless, the iPhone 19 series (Apple’s 20th-anniversary iPhone) is also around the corner, and it wouldn’t be surprising if Apple reserves a few groundbreaking changes — like a hole-punch + UDC setup for the front or the transparent back design — for its 20th-anniversary models. More concrete information is expected as development progresses.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/">Apple</a> might finally bring a major camera upgrade to the iPhone 18 Pro lineup — a variable aperture lens. According to a new report from Korea’s ETNews, both the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to include the feature, allowing the main camera to physically adjust how much light it lets in.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="682" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Variable-aperture-1024x682.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-711311" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Variable-aperture-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Variable-aperture-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Variable-aperture-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Variable-aperture-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Variable-aperture-1068x711.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Variable-aperture-630x420.jpg 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Variable-aperture.jpg 1420w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Unlike the fixed f/1.78 aperture used on the iPhone 14 Pro through iPhone 17 Pro models, this setup can open wider in dim environments for brighter, cleaner photos, or narrow down in daylight to prevent overexposure. It also gives users more control over depth of field — useful for portraits with strong background blur or sharper landscape shots with everything in focus.</p>

<p>Apple is reportedly working with two Chinese companies &#8211; Luxshare ICT and Sunny Optical &#8211; for the actuator that controls the aperture’s movement. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/11/09/iphone-18-pro-variable-aperture-camera">previously hinted</a> at this collaboration back in late 2024, lending more weight to today’s report.</p>

<p>While Samsung experimented with variable apertures years ago on the Galaxy S9 and S10, the company dropped the feature after 2020 due to its higher cost and design complexity. With the technological advancements achieved by Apple’s contract manufacturers in recent years, the variable aperture mechanism on the iPhone 18 Pro models is expected to be both slimmer and more cost-efficient. That said, the addition could still give Apple reason to raise prices. The iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1,099, and the iPhone 18 Pro might go a bit higher. We’ll know more as development progresses.</p>

<p>The new camera system is expected to debut in fall 2026 alongside the iPhone Air 2 and Apple’s first foldable iPhone. If the leaks hold true, this could be one of Apple’s most significant leaps in mobile photography in years, blending hardware finesse with its already-strong computational processing.</p>

<p>The iPhone 18 Pro models are also <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/06/19/apple-may-finally-ditch-the-dynamic-island-in-iphone-18-pro-series-with-under-display-face-id/">rumored to drop the Dynamic Island</a> in favor of an under-display Face ID system.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-17/">iPhone 17</a> series hasn’t even hit store shelves yet — sales begin tomorrow, September 19 — but that hasn’t stopped early chatter about what comes next. A new leak hints at what the iPhone 18 Pro might look like and what it could pack inside. Surprisingly, the back of the phone may bring an unexpected twist.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="974" height="559" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot-2025-09-18-135745.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-707328" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot-2025-09-18-135745.png 974w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot-2025-09-18-135745-300x172.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot-2025-09-18-135745-768x441.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot-2025-09-18-135745-696x399.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot-2025-09-18-135745-732x420.png 732w" sizes="(max-width: 974px) 100vw, 974px" /></figure>

<p>The tip comes from well-known Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station. According to him, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will stick closely to the design <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/">Apple</a> is rolling out with the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-17-pro/">17 Pro</a> series. That means the oversized square camera housing with three separate lenses is here to stay. Apple seems content with the new aesthetic and isn’t rushing to change it.</p>

<p>The interesting twist is what’s rumored for the back panel. Apple is reportedly experimenting with a semi-transparent lower section, giving users a peek at the internals. It wouldn’t be the full see-through look that Nothing has made its signature, but even a subtle transparent element would be a surprising move for Apple, which has typically favored minimal, opaque finishes.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="592" height="250" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot-2025-09-18-030447.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-707313" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot-2025-09-18-030447.png 592w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot-2025-09-18-030447-300x127.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 592px) 100vw, 592px" /></figure></div>

<p>Other details hint at a focus on performance. The phones are said to include a stainless steel vapor chamber for better cooling, which should help during heavy gaming or video recording. Screen sizes are expected to remain the same as the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max — 6.3 and 6.9 inches respectively. Hardware specifics, like the chip and camera upgrades, haven’t leaked yet, but it’s safe to expect the usual annual jump.</p>

<p>It’s still very early, but if Apple really does embrace a transparent design, the iPhone 18 Pro could stand out as one of the company’s more daring flagships in recent memory.</p>

<p>It hasn’t even been a full week since the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/09/13/who-should-buy-the-iphone-17-pro-max/">iPhone 17 lineup</a> went on sale, and leaks about <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/">Apple</a>’s next flagship are already surfacing. According to a new report from Chinese leaker Setsuna Digital, the iPhone 18 series, due in 2026, could see a smaller Dynamic Island but may still miss out on one of the most anticipated design upgrades.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="641" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/iPhone-18-Smaller-Dynamic-Island-1024x641.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-706691" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/iPhone-18-Smaller-Dynamic-Island-1024x641.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/iPhone-18-Smaller-Dynamic-Island-300x188.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/iPhone-18-Smaller-Dynamic-Island-768x481.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/iPhone-18-Smaller-Dynamic-Island-696x436.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/iPhone-18-Smaller-Dynamic-Island-1068x668.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/iPhone-18-Smaller-Dynamic-Island-671x420.jpg 671w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/iPhone-18-Smaller-Dynamic-Island.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The leak claims that Apple is working to shrink the Dynamic Island cutout, which currently houses Face ID sensors and the front camera. Instead of eliminating it altogether, Apple may be preparing a more compact version. That would mean no under-display Face ID or camera just yet, despite long-running <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/06/19/apple-may-finally-ditch-the-dynamic-island-in-iphone-18-pro-series-with-under-display-face-id/">rumors</a> pointing in that direction.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="636" height="494" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Setsuna-Digial-weibo-iphone-18-rumor.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-706690" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Setsuna-Digial-weibo-iphone-18-rumor.jpg 636w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Setsuna-Digial-weibo-iphone-18-rumor-300x233.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Setsuna-Digial-weibo-iphone-18-rumor-541x420.jpg 541w" sizes="(max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px" /></figure>

<p>This lines up with chatter about Apple’s 2026 plans, which could bring other changes to the lineup, and even Apple’s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/09/03/apple-foldable-iphone-2026-foldable-ipad-2028/">first foldable device</a>. But under-display technology may not arrive until the iPhone 19 or perhaps a special <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/05/15/apples-20th-anniversary-iphone-to-bring-wild-upgrades-no-bezels-no-cutout-and-a-100-silicon-battery/">anniversary edition in 2027</a>.</p>

<p>Setsuna Digital does have some credibility, having leaked the iPhone 17’s vapor chamber cooling system correctly, though their track record isn’t flawless. As always, these kinds of early leaks should be taken with a dose of skepticism.</p>

<p>If accurate, the iPhone 18 will represent more of a refinement than a redesign. Apple seems to be taking its time on the transition to a truly all-screen iPhone, while rivals like Samsung continue to push harder into foldables. For now, the smaller Dynamic Island looks like the next step in Apple’s slow march toward a cleaner front display.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple</a> is reportedly gearing up to make a major change to the iPhone’s display design in 2026. According to a post on Chinese social media platform Weibo by the reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/05/05/iphone-18-pro-under-display-face-id-redesign/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">move toward a cleaner screen experience</a> by hiding the Face ID system under the display, alongside a camera that sits behind the screen as well.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="256" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/iPhone-18-Pro-series-leak.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-693146" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/iPhone-18-Pro-series-leak.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/iPhone-18-Pro-series-leak-300x85.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/iPhone-18-Pro-series-leak-768x218.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/iPhone-18-Pro-series-leak-696x198.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>The leak claims the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will feature 6.27-inch and 6.86-inch OLED panels, respectively. Both screens will have LTPO refresh rate tech and 1.5K resolution. </p>

<p>However, the bigger shift is Apple’s adoption of HIAA (Hole-in-Active-Area) technology, which removes part of the screen’s pixel layer to let sensors underneath see through the display.</p>

<h2><strong>It&#8217;s difficult to perfect</strong></h2>

<p>This approach isn’t new in the smartphone industry. Android makers like Samsung and ZTE have already experimented with under-display cameras. But Apple’s challenge goes beyond just hiding a selfie shooter.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Its Face ID biometric tech relies on a suite of infrared components: a dot projector, a flood illuminator, and an IR camera. Most under-display tech is optimized for visible light, so adapting it for infrared use is not straightforward. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="796" height="532" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/IPHone-18-Pro-face-id-image.png?x44794" alt="iPhone 18 Pro series mockup" class="wp-image-685134" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/IPHone-18-Pro-face-id-image.png 796w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/IPHone-18-Pro-face-id-image-300x201.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/IPHone-18-Pro-face-id-image-768x513.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/IPHone-18-Pro-face-id-image-696x465.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/IPHone-18-Pro-face-id-image-628x420.png 628w" sizes="(max-width: 796px) 100vw, 796px" /><figcaption>iPhone 18 Pro series mockup</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>According to the report, Apple has already built it and is testing working prototypes. So it seems that the company may have overcome some of these hardware limitations.</p>

<p>Apple’s long-term goal to completely remove the Dynamic Island has been in circulation since at least the iPhone 15 series, with similar speculation cropping up around the iPhone 16 and 17. </p>

<p>While the iPhone 17 Pro Max is still expected to ship with a smaller Dynamic Island, a fully uninterrupted screen won’t arrive until the iPhone 18 lineup, assuming development and production stay on track.</p>

<p>As always with early leaks, timelines can shift. But if the under-display Face ID and camera system makes it to next year’s Pro models, it would mark Apple’s first significant external design overhaul since the introduction of the Dynamic Island in the iPhone 14 Pro.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="796" height="532" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/IPHone-18-Pro-face-id-image.png?x44794" alt="iPhone 18 Pro series mockup" class="wp-image-685134" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/IPHone-18-Pro-face-id-image.png 796w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/IPHone-18-Pro-face-id-image-300x201.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/IPHone-18-Pro-face-id-image-768x513.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/IPHone-18-Pro-face-id-image-696x465.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/IPHone-18-Pro-face-id-image-628x420.png 628w" sizes="(max-width: 796px) 100vw, 796px" /><figcaption>iPhone 18 Pro series mockup</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>The redesign involves relocating the front-facing camera to a small punch-hole in the upper-left corner of the screen while embedding the Face ID components beneath the display. This change could eliminate the current Dynamic Island setup, though it&#8217;s still unclear whether Apple will completely abandon it or adapt it to the new layout.</p>

<p>Apple&#8217;s progression from the notch on the iPhone X to the pill-shaped cutout on the iPhone 14 Pro series aims to maximize screen real estate. The move to a single punch-hole brings the iPhone&#8217;s appearance closer to what’s common in the Android space, though Apple continues to stay committed to 3D face authentication instead of adopting under-display fingerprint sensors.</p>

<p>The report also reveals that Apple may <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/05/05/apple-iphone-18-launch-strategy-2026/">stagger the launch of the iPhone 18 series</a>, with the Pro models likely to debut the new under-display Face ID design in 2026. Alongside the Pro models, the brand may also announce the iPhone 18 Air and its foldable iPhone. In contrast, the standard iPhone 18 and the iPhone 18e might debut in spring 2027 with the existing “2+1 punch-hole” configuration.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple">Apple</a> will unveil its iPhone 17 series this September, but attention is already turning to 2026&#8217;s lineup.&nbsp;A significant change is coming to Apple’s iPhone release schedule, according to <em>The Information</em>. The publication reports that Apple plans to stagger the iPhone 18 lineup launches in 2026 and 2027, breaking from its traditional all-at-once September unveilings.</p>

<h3><strong>New release timeline for iPhone 18 series</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/iPhone-17-Pro-renders-1024x536.jpg?x44794" alt="iPhone-17-Pro-renders" class="wp-image-673190" width="1024" height="536" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/iPhone-17-Pro-renders-1024x536.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/iPhone-17-Pro-renders-300x157.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/iPhone-17-Pro-renders-768x402.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/iPhone-17-Pro-renders-696x364.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/iPhone-17-Pro-renders-1068x559.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/iPhone-17-Pro-renders-803x420.jpg 803w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/iPhone-17-Pro-renders.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>iPhone 17 Pro renders by FPT</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>According to the report, Apple will introduce the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, a sleek iPhone 18 Air, and its first foldable iPhone during its usual fall event in 2026. The standard iPhone 18 and a budget-friendly iPhone 18e, a successor to the iPhone 16e, will follow in spring 2027.</p>

<p>This shift aims to ease production demands, particularly as Apple ramps up manufacturing in India to reduce reliance on China amid trade tensions. The staggered timeline could also streamline factory operations, requiring fewer workers for each cycle. The iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to feature under-display Face ID, replacing the Dynamic Island with a single front camera cutout, while the Air model will emphasize a slim design.</p>

<p>Apple’s foldable iPhone, anticipated for 2026, promises a book-like design with a 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.8-inch inner screen for enhanced multitasking. To tackle durability concerns, Apple is reportedly using a liquid metal hinge to minimize creasing. The device, potentially measuring 4.5mm when unfolded, may skip Face ID for a Touch ID power button sensor and feature a titanium chassis with a dual-camera system. Expected to be priced at around $2,000, it could be Apple’s priciest iPhone yet. Enhanced AI features and software optimizations will likely position it as a premium, AI-driven device, setting the stage for future foldable iPads or MacBooks.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple </a>might be planning something big for its future iPhones. A fresh rumor has hinted at the brand&#8217;s next gen iPhones 18 series getting a leap in performance thanks to advancements in the proprietary chips. However, this improvement in power could be coming at a cost.</p>

<h2>Apple iPhone 18 getting more expensive over better performance </h2>

<p>According to a known tipster <em><a href="https://weibo.com/6048569942/PnFnbnHSO" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Digital Chat Station</a></em>, the Cupertino based giant is planning on upgrading the performance of its chips for the iPhone 18 series by adopting TSMC&#8217;s new 2nm process. These chipsets will bring more power but could lead to the iPhone 18 series getting more expensive. The rise in cost is apparently due to rising manufacturing costs of the cutting edge chips based on the new process.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/image-3.png?x44794" alt="iPhone 16 Pro Max" class="wp-image-679924" width="757" height="574" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/image-3.png 855w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/image-3-300x227.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/image-3-768x582.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/image-3-696x527.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/image-3-554x420.png 554w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/image-3-80x60.png 80w" sizes="(max-width: 757px) 100vw, 757px" /><figcaption>Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>The iPhone 18 lineup may get a noticeable hike in price compared to the current gen iPhones or even the upcoming iPhone 17 series as well. This price rise could be attributed to TSMC&#8217;s new process, since these will have a limited units owing to yield issues. So, it is likely that Apple would have this chip be exclusive to the higher end iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models. </p>

<p>The report from DCS claims that the limitation in production is based on early production numbers (Via <em><a href="https://www.phonearena.com/news/apple-upgrade-iphone-18-prices-up_id169583" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">PhoneArena</a></em>). While the tipster claimed that prices may rise, we didn&#8217;t get an exact figure. However, with the components cost growing and the tariff situation, the cost could be significantly higher. Based on our previous report, the Apple iPhone 18 Pro could be the first iPhone to feature a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/11/09/iphone-18-pro-variable-aperture-camera/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">variable aperture camera</a>, along with other camera innovations. </p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple</a> seems set to join a trend started by several Android competitors. The iPhone 18 Pro, expected to go official in 2026, might come with a variable aperture camera system, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. </p>

<p>Android manufacturers have long experimented with variable aperture lenses to give users more control over light intake and depth of field. These lenses adjust their opening size, much like professional cameras.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="682" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate-50-pro-variable-aperture-1024x682.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-659209" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate-50-pro-variable-aperture-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate-50-pro-variable-aperture-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate-50-pro-variable-aperture-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate-50-pro-variable-aperture-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate-50-pro-variable-aperture-1068x711.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate-50-pro-variable-aperture-630x420.jpg 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate-50-pro-variable-aperture.jpg 1420w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>In bright settings, a narrower aperture allows for sharper images and a deeper depth of field, where both foreground and background elements remain in focus.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Conversely, a wider aperture admits more light, ideal for capturing well-exposed photos in dimly lit environments, albeit with a shallower depth of field that blurs the background behind the subject.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>It’s iPhone 18 if not the 17&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p><em><a href="https://www.theinformation.com/articles/apple-moves-forward-with-foldable-iphone" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Information</a></em> previously hinted that a variable aperture camera might debut on at least one iPh<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/iphone-17/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">one 17</a> model, but Kuo’s latest report suggests this feature could be delayed until the 2026 iPhone 18 lineup.</p>

<p>Specifically, Kuo expects the iPhone 18 Pro&#8217;s primary rear camera to benefit from this technology.&nbsp;</p>

<p>His industry survey indicates that Sunny Optical will likely be the primary supplier for the camera’s shutter mechanism, with Luxshare as a secondary source. Notably, Sunny Optical is also expected to supply the variable aperture lens as a secondary provider, with Largan Precision remaining the primary source.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="500" height="500" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Apple-iPhone-16-Pro-Max.jpg?x44794" alt="Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max" class="wp-image-652782" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Apple-iPhone-16-Pro-Max.jpg 500w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Apple-iPhone-16-Pro-Max-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Apple-iPhone-16-Pro-Max-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Apple-iPhone-16-Pro-Max-420x420.jpg 420w" sizes="(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" /></figure></div>

<p>So far, all iPhone models rely on fixed aperture lenses, which limits the control over light intake and depth of field. Variable aperture technology, however, could give users finer control over these settings, allowing adjustments to suit their preferences.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s important to note that Kuo&#8217;s report is based on industry surveys and should be treated as an informed prediction rather than a confirmed fact. With the iPhone 18 launch still two years away, Apple has ample time to refine its plans and possibly change t its camera strategy.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/">Apple</a> finally included a periscope telephoto lens in its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-15-pro-max/">iPhone 15 Pro Max</a> last year, later extending the upgrade to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-16-pro/">iPhone 16 Pro</a>. This is just one example of how the Cupertino firm has adopted technological advancements much later than its competitors.</p>

<p>Now, reports suggest that Apple plans to introduce a variable aperture camera to the iPhone 18 series—a feature that Samsung, introduced back in 2018 with the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. Since then, various smartphone makers have experimented with the new tech in their flagships and some still use it, such as the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-14-pro/">Xiaomi 14 Pro</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-14-ultra/">Xiaomi 14 Ultra</a>.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="682" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate-50-pro-variable-aperture-1024x682.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-659209" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate-50-pro-variable-aperture-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate-50-pro-variable-aperture-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate-50-pro-variable-aperture-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate-50-pro-variable-aperture-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate-50-pro-variable-aperture-1068x711.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate-50-pro-variable-aperture-630x420.jpg 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/huawei-mate-50-pro-variable-aperture.jpg 1420w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The variable aperture feature is expected to be available only on the iPhone 18 Pro models, potentially reinforcing the distinction between standard and Pro iPhone models.</p>

<h2>The variable aperture could benefit iPhone&#8217;s imaging system significantly</h2>

<p>While the optical upgrade didn’t secure <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-14-ultra/">Samsung</a> a major advantage at the time, Apple’s approach could reportedly mark a more significant impact. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, a trusted source for Apple-related news, this new feature is expected to arrive in 2026 with the iPhone 18 series.</p>

<p>For those unfamiliar, a variable aperture enables the camera to adapt to various lighting conditions by adjusting its lens opening, allowing more or less light into the sensor.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="640" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/iPhone-16-Pro-and-Pro-Max-1024x640.png?x44794" alt="iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max" class="wp-image-649479" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/iPhone-16-Pro-and-Pro-Max-1024x640.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/iPhone-16-Pro-and-Pro-Max-300x188.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/iPhone-16-Pro-and-Pro-Max-768x480.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/iPhone-16-Pro-and-Pro-Max-696x435.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/iPhone-16-Pro-and-Pro-Max-1068x668.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/iPhone-16-Pro-and-Pro-Max-672x420.png 672w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/iPhone-16-Pro-and-Pro-Max.png 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>In essence, this upgrade for the iPhone 18 series could result in better-quality photos in low-light settings while offering more control over depth of field (when the light is sufficient). This flexibility is already present in high-end DSLR cameras and some Android phones including the two I mentioned above. Not to mention, it would be a significant addition to the iPhone’s photography capabilities, potentially giving Apple a competitive edge among those who prioritize camera quality.</p>

<p>Apple’s decision to rely on an established Android supplier highlights a growing trend of cross-platform technology adoption in the smartphone industry.</p>

<p>Additionally, Apple is reportedly considering Samsung as a new supplier of camera sensors, potentially ending Sony’s exclusive role in this area.</p>

<p>For those unwilling to wait for the iPhone 18 series, expected in late 2027, the iPhone 17 Pro series could serve as a promising alternative &#8211; with a more capable chipset, possibly more RAM (necessary for more advanced on-device AI features), and also, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/10/19/apple-could-finally-fix-long-range-zoom-with-iphone-17-pro-models/">a 48MP telephoto</a> aimed at better clarity on long range zoom.</p>
