Why do I think that Apple itself made it? It’s too detailed.

As if this was one of the prototypes, but I think it's clear that Apple never really considered this design with Touch ID, having an iPhone X with Face ID in its sleeve pic.twitter.com/zyAFU7JNNT

— Ben Geskin (@BenGeskin) January 31, 2022

Around five years ago, it was rumored that Apple was departing from the iconic design that featured thick bezels on the top and bottom, with the bottom one housing a round Touch ID button (via MacRumors). Questions were raised about where the fingerprint authentication would be placed, but Apple eventually unveiled Face ID, ditching Touch ID completely.

However, rumors at the time had suggested that Apple would be sticking with Touch ID and implementing it at the rear of the device or even under the display. Some really consistent series of leaks had seemed to prove so — they showed an iPhone X with slimmer top and bottom bezels and an aluminum rear with a round Touch ID sensor.

The widespread and consistent nature of such leaks had led many to believe that Apple itself was behind them, seeking to lower customer expectations. And that’s exactly what Ben Geskin has once again brought up through his tweet.

The tweet quotes another about the sale of an “iPhone 7s Plus Galactic Silver 64GB” for $125. It’s unclear if the device is a dummy or an actual working prototype iPhone. But the latter seems unlikely because if the device had indeed been the real deal, there’s no way it would’ve been sold at such a giveaway price. A fake Android with the body of an iPhone could be another possibility but it’s difficult to know for sure.

Flagship iPhones have been lacking Touch ID functionality for around five years now but Apple is rumored to be bringing it back. Reports did suggest that the company tested under-display fingerprint sensors for the iPhone 13 series, but Apple apparently chose to stick with Face ID for another year. Thus, it’s possible that fingerprint authentication is set to make a return soon with a future iPhone.

There have been mixed rumors on the launch and availability of the smartphone. A recent report has revealed that the specifications of the alleged iPhone Edition have not been finalized yet.

An anonymous representative from Apple’s local supplier has revealed that the shipments of the 2017 iPhones began from late August. He added that its firm has not received exact details on the supply volume as Apple is still finalizing on the specifications of the forthcoming iPhone that will feature an OLED panel.

Apple has already sent out its official invitation to the media on the upcoming launch event that will be held on Sept. 12. However, since most of the parts suppliers have begun with the shipments recently, the rumor mill is speculating that the OLED iPhone’s release would be delayed to November.

Another unnamed source has said that even if Apple debuts the OLED iPhone in the next week, it may be made available in very limited quantity. This prediction sounds similar to what KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo had claimed earlier. According to Kuo, the iPhone Edition would be launching in limited quantity of around 2 to 4 million in September.

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus (previously referred as iPhone 7S and 7S Plus) that are expected to debut next week are expected to arrive with LCD panels. Reports have revealed that the supply chain start shipping the LCD panels from June so that the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus could become available in the market as soon as their unveiled.

Samsung Display is the sole supplier of OLED panels for the iPhone Edtion. LG Display is providing LCD panels for the rumored iPhone 8 and 8 Plus smartphones. The same source that has been mentioned has claimed that some of the partner of Apple are of the view that the iPhone revenue will almost grow twofold this year. The upcoming launch event could be the very first time for Apple to debut three iPhones at the same time. A previous report has stated the upcoming iPhones may turn Apple into a trillion-dollar company.

Rumor have it that the 2017 iPhones would be available on pre-orders on Sept. 15. And the new iPhones would be available at the stores by Sept. 22. According to Tony Sacconaghi, an analyst with Bernstein, if the arrival of iPhone X gets delayed by three weeks, buyers may switch to a smartphone from a different manufacturer.

The iPhone X that is rumored to be a special edition smartphone is expected to be available in limited numbers at launch. Well-known analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed that Apple would be selling around two to four million units of the iPhone X at launch.

Read More: Live Photos of iPhone 8 OLED Display Assembly Leaks

As rumors have revealed that the iPhone X would be coming with a premium design that will be packed with a full-screen display. Instead of the Touch ID sensor, the smartphone is expected to house a 3D facial recognition feature. The new biometric recognition feature is expected to accurately authenticate payments on Apple Pay. The Cupertino company is also speculated to introduce wireless charging feature on it as well as on iPhone 8 and 8 Plus smartphones.

The iPhone X is expected to come in three storage choices such as 64 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB. These models are rumored to be respectively priced at $999, $1,099 and $1,199.

Ming-Chi Kuo has said that the reason behind such a high pricing of the iPhone X is it features a very costly OLED panel from Samsung. These panels are purchased at a price that twice more than what Apple is paying for LCD panels for iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. Each OLED panel is rumored to be priced around $130. However, the Cupertino company is paying around $55 for each LCD panel.

Hence, the company is speculated to be looking for a second supplier of OLED panel like LG. Having a second supplier would provide Apple with steady supply of OLED panels. Also, it would make it possible to get the OLED panels at a discounted price because of competition between two suppliers.

According to a new report on Wall Street Journal, Apple has decided on keeping a launch event on Sept. 12 at the newly built Steve Jobs theatres which is located on Apple’s campus.

This is highest ever demand for buying an iPhone since 2010.

The Cupertino company is expected to launch a new premium iPhone in celebration of the tenth anniversary of iPhones. Even though the rumor mill is referring to it as the iPhone 8, it is not the official name. Some reports are calling it iPhone X or iPhone Pro.

The rumor mill has revealed that both the sensors will work together as 3D face recognition feature. Speculations are rife that this feature will be called Face ID. According to a South Korean publication, the Face ID feature will offer topnotch accuracy that will function at speed of millionths of a second.

The Microsoft Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL smartphones from October 2014 came with iris scanners. However, the Windows 10 powered smartphone did not achieve much popularity. The feature gained recognition when it arrived on Samsung Galaxy series smartphones, but since the speed and accuracy is not up to the mark, these devices come with iris scanners as well as fingerprint readers.

Previous reports have revealed that Apple has been struggling to place the Touch ID sensor under the display of the upcoming iPhone 8. Hence, it seems that the Cupertino company has decided to ditch the Touch ID sensor on the iPhone 8 and instead offer a 3D face recognition feature that functions accurately. If the iPhone 8 will not feature a Touch ID sensor as it is pegged to replace it with Face ID, Apple will have to explain the accuracy and security of the new feature that will be used not only for unlocking the iPhone 8 but also to authenticate payments made through it.

The South Korean publication has claimed that the 3D sensors will be present on the front as well as the backside of the iPhone 8’s to support the new augmented reality (AR) platform from Apple. Fresh information suggest that the Cupertino company will be making use of a flat AMOLED screen instead of a curved edge display. An AMOLED screen is slimmer than an LCD panel.

Several information of the upcoming iPhone 8 has surfaced through the firmware of the smart speaker. Here is a low down of all the information related to iPhone 8 that have been found in the code of the iPhone 8 by iOS developers like Guilherme Rambo, Steve Troughton-Smith and Jeffery Grossman

iPhone 8 Design

Buried in the code of the HomePod is an image of a device that carries a codenamed of D22. The image shows the alleged iPhone 8 with full-screen design and a u-shaped upper bezel. This image corresponds to the leaked renders of the iPhone 8 that support the same design. There is no confirmation on whether the iPhone 8 is codenamed as D22. The iPhone 8 is expected to come with a 5.8-inch OLED screen.

OLED Status Bar

The u-shaped bezel will have some unused corners on the left and right corners of the OLED screen. Grossman has found that some references of UIStatusBar in the firmware code which suggests that the OLED screen portions on the left and right sides of the u-shaped bezel at the top will show information such as network strength, battery capacity, time and Bluetooth status.

Facial Recognition

An image of the alleged front panel of iPhone 8 that had surfaced in the last week suggested that it would be featuring a pair of iris sensors on the top bezel probably for the 3D facial recognition feature. There are plenty of references related to the facial recognition feature in the code of HomePod’s firmware. Rambo has discovered that the Apple Pay authentication can be carried out through facial recognition

This suggests that the iPhone 8 is very likely to feature facial scanning feature and it may be called Face ID. Coded information suggested that Face ID is codenamed as Pear ID. According to Troughton-Smith, there is no reference of under the display Touch ID sensor which suggests that the iPhone 8 may not feature an under-screen fingerprint scanner or the feature may be completely axed. Some rumors claim that the Touch ID sensor may be embedded in the large-sized Power button of the iPhone 8.

Tap to Wake

Touching the Home button usually turns on the display of an iPhone. Apple may do away this feature in the upcoming iPhone 8 because a new feature called “Tap to Wake” has been found in the code of HomePod’s software. This feature will possibly allow users to double-tap on the screen to activate the screen.

Virtual Home Button

The full-screen display on the iPhone 8 will probably result in the removal of the physical Home button. It has been found that the iPhone 8 may have an on-screen Home button that will be placed in the rumored Function Area at the bottom of the screen.

SmartCam

Apple iPhone 8 may arrive with a new SmartCam scene selection functionality to shoot amazing photos by automatically selecting the right scene from options like Baby, Bright Stage, Document, Fireworks, Foliage, and more

Wireless Charging

The references of inductive charging and 2017 iPhone suggest that not only the iPhone 8 but also the rumored iPhone 7S and 7S Plus would be coming with wireless charging feature.

It is expected to come with a bunch of new features that are unavailable on other iPhones. Recent rumors have revealed that the iPhone 8 will be announced along with the iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus on Sept. 5 or 6, but the shipments of iPhone 8 may begin in October. Fresh information from sources in Asian supply chain suggest that the three upcoming iPhones will debut on Sept. 7, 8 or 9 and the iPhone 7S and 7S Plus will be released in the market on Sept. 17 and the shipments of iPhone 8 will start in October or early November.

The Japanese tech blog, Macotakara that was first to reveal the above information has also given out some information on the iPhone 8. Recent renders have revealed that the iPhone 8 has a longer Power button. Some of the recent speculations have claimed that since Apple is unable to place the fingerprint under the front glass, it may come embedded in the long-shaped fingerprint scanner. Fresh information coming from supply chain contradicts the news about fingerprint sensor inside side-mounted Power key.

Fingerprint identification was under-screen in testing machine. Maybe they done it successfully.

— Ben Geskin (@VenyaGeskin1) July 24, 2017

The official cases that are being built for the iPhone 8 does not have cut-out for the Power button. Hence, the Touch ID sensor is unlikely to present inside the Power button. It seems that Apple will embed the Touch ID sensor underneath the screen. Benjamin Geskin, a known designer and tipster has recently claimed that Apple may have successfully managed to place the fingerprint scanner under the display. However, there is a possibility that Apple may either place it on the backside of the iPhone 8 or skip it completely.

Read More: Apple to Manufacture OLED Panels to Stop its Dependence on Samsung

The probable reason behind skipping the fingerprint sensor on the iPhone 8 can be understood by looking at the image of its purported screen protector which shows that it will be equipped with a pair of iris sensors. This could mean that iPhone 8 would be coming with 3D facial recognition feature dubbed as Face ID.

The front panel of the iPhone 8 will be available in only black color. This suggests that it apart from color black, the iPhone 8 may not be available in other color options. As rumors have claimed, it will be sporting a glass rear that will make it possible to support wireless charging, a feature that is unavailable on any of the iPhones released so far.

Today, well-known leakster, @OnLeaks, has revealed a video of the dummy unit of iPhone 8 by collaborating with Tiger Mobiles. The leakster has a very good track record of revealing accurate leaked information of forthcoming devices before their official launch. Hence, the design of the iPhone 8 revealed through its dummy unit certainly cannot be dismissed as fake.

As it can be seen in the video, the dummy unit suggests that the alleged iPhone 8 would be sporting very slim bezels around its screen. However, the upper part of the screen sports a slightly larger bezel to feature a selfie camera and some other sensors.

Read More: iPhone 8 Units May Be Limited to 3-4 Million Units Due to Lack of OLED Supply

The iPhone 8 dummy unit measures 143.5 x 71 x 7.5mm. The rear side of the phone features a vertically stacked dual cameras. An LED flash is placed between the two cameras. The camera module has a prominent bump. The alleged iPhone 8 is larger than the iPhone 7 that measures 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1mm. However, it is smaller than the iPhone 7 Plus with measures 158.2 x 77.9 x 7.3mm.

Even though the alleged iPhone 8 is smaller than the iPhone 7 Plus that features a 5.5-inch screen, rumors have claimed that the iPhone 8 would be equipped with a 5.8-inch screen. Also, it is expected to be the first iPhone to feature an OLED screen. Since the front panel of the alleged iPhone 8 does not feature a fingerprint scanner, it seems that the biometric recognition feature is embedded under the display. Some rumors have claimed that there is a possibility that the iPhone 8 may feature a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner since Apple is facing issues with embedding it under the screen. It will come loaded with iOS 11.

The iPhone 8 is speculated to come with all-glass design. This indicates that Apple may introduce wireless charging feature on the iPhone 8. The year 2017 marks the tenth anniversary of Apple iPhones. Hence, the Cupertino company is expected to release iPhone 8 with overall improvements. It is rumored to launch alongside the iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus in September.

Both the panels confirm the rumors the surrounding the highly anticipated iPhone 8 (aka iPhone X). The front panel shows that the iPhone 8 would be coming with an edge-to-edge screen as well as a sensor sitting at the top. The back panel reveals that it will be arriving with a vertically arranged dual camera system.

The design of the iPhones has remained almost the same since the time iPhone 6 was launched in 2014. Hence, Apple is expected to launch redesigned iPhones this year. The year 2017 is the tenth anniversary of Apple iPhones. Hence, the iPhone 8/X is expected to come with a new design. Speculations have it that this special iPhone 8 would be gracing a 5.8-inch OLED scree. The Touch ID sensor is rumored to be embedded under the display.

Since the expected launch of next-generation iPhones in September is drawing near, the frequency of iPhone 8 rumors has increased all the more in the recent weeks. The first image alleged shows the front panel of the iPhone 8 with super-slim bezels and at the top-center, there is a slightly thicker bezel dubbed as sensor bar that houses earpiece and the front camera. The back panel has a vertically designed dual cameras that is separated by a LED flash. Also, the rear panel appears to be made up of glass which indicates that it may come with wireless charging feature.

The above image showcases the three different iPhones, the iPhone 7S, iPhone 7S Plus and the iPhone 8 that are expected to release this year. The three iPhones can be differentiated on the basis of camera housing of each unit. The iPhone 7S is rumored to come with a single-lens 12-megapixel camera.

The iPhone 7S Plus is rumored to house a horizontally designed dual rear camera system and third one belongs to the alleged iPhone 8. These iPhones do not seem to feature a rear-facing fingerprint reader. Hence, all of them are expected to come with screen-embedded Touch ID sensors. Since the iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus also seem to feature glass panels, they are also expected to support wireless charging.

With only few months remaining, the rumor mill is consistently revealing leaked images and photos of dummy units of the next-generation iPhones. The year 2017 marks the tenth anniversary of iPhones. Hence, Apple is expected to launch a premium iPhone with edge-to-edge OLED display this year. The rumor mill is referring it with different names such as iPhone 8 and iPhone X. During the weekend, the Computer Aided Design (CAD) schematics of the alleged iPhone 8 were revealed on Twitter by designer and tipster, Benjamin Geskin.

The CAD images reveals the design of the much-awaited iPhone 8/X. However, it is still too early to confirm that it is the final design of the iPhone 8. In the past month, an analyst had revealed that the production of this year’s iPhones may get delayed because the Cupertino company is unable to embed the Touch ID sensor under the display of the iPhone 8. In order to resolve the issue, Apple may announce the iPhone 8 with Touch ID sensor placed under the display, but delay its production.

The second option for Apple would be to place the fingerprint scanner on the rear side of the iPhone 8. Samsung faced a similar issue in the placement of fingerprint scanner on Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones. Since it could not manage to place at the front in time, it ended up placing the fingerprint reader in an un-friendly position right next to the camera at the backside of the Galaxy S8 and S8+.

The third option that Apple may consider is to axe the Touch ID senor entirely and provide user with other biometric identification features like iris scanner or 3D facial recognition. However, these alternative biometric recognition methods are not very secure and may cause issues with Apple Pay transactions.

Read More: iPhone 9, 9 Plus Coming in 5.28” and 6.46” Sizes to Rival Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9 Plus?

Coming back to the CAD images, the circle that is seen in the rear side of the alleged iPhone 8’s CAD images may suggest that it has a rear-facing fingerprint sensor. However, Geskin has confirmed that the circle actually represents the position where Apple will place its logo. The front is mainly occupied by the screen and it gives us a hint that the Touch ID sensor may come embedded under the screen. Speculations have it that the alleged iPhone 8 would be coming with a 5.8-inch OLED screen.

Rumors are hinting that iPhone 7S, iPhone 7S Plus and the tenth anniversary special edition iPhone 8 (iPhone X) would be arriving this year. Even though leaksters and iPhone fans are speculating on next-generation iPhones, a South Korean publication has revealed new information on iPhone 9 that will be probably launching in 2018.

After launching 4-inch iPhone 5 in 2012 followed by 4-inch iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S in 2013, the company introduce 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus in 2014. Since then, Apple iPhones have been launching in 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch sizes. This year too, Apple is expected to launch 4.7-inch iPhone 7S and 5.5-inch iPhone 7S Plus. However, the Korean source claims that the size of the iPhones will increase in 2018.

The iPhone 9 is speculated to arrive with 5.28-inch screen whereas its larger sibling will be arriving with a 6.46-inch display. The iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus are pegged to come with OLED panels. Samsung is expected to supply OLED panels for iPhone 9 models. The South Korean company is likely to ship 180 million units of OLED panels to Apple. Both companies have reportedly entered a non-disclosure agreement and hence they are unlikely to reveal any details on the screen size for 2018 iPhones.

Samsung is expected to ship 80 million OLED panels for the 5.8-inch iPhone 8 that is expected arrive later this year. However, for large-sized screens of iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus, the South Korean company is likely to ship 180 million OLED units. Speculations have it that Samsung is planning to build a new manufacturing unit that will exclusively produce OLED panels for the Cupertino company.

Fresh reports coming from South Korea has revealed that LG Innotek, a branch of the company that specializes in manufacturing electronic components, will be supplying world’s first 3D facial recognition camera modules to Apple. In order to manage Apple’s order, LG has reportedly invested $238.5 million on a completely new facility for manufacturing the new 3D camera modules.

The 3D facial recognition camera would be able to sense depth. This would allow users to unlock their smartphone in a more secure way. Samsung has already introduced facial recognition feature on Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. However, the facial recognition feature available on the Galaxy S8 duo that relies on 2D technology are not that secure as it can be fooled easily by using a photograph of the subject’s face.

Since last year, Apple and LG Innotek are reportedly working together on a 3D facial recognition camera system that will not only work as security feature but also it can be used on entertainment applications and augmented reality. LG Innotek is the same company that provides dual rear cameras for the iPhone 7 Plus. The probable reason behind why LG has invested such a huge amount in a new facility for the 3D facial recognition camera for iPhone 8 is the new 3D camera will be smaller in size in comparison to the cameras on the iPhone 7 Plus.

The 3D camera will be slotted on the frontside of the upcoming iPhone. Considering the fact that the 3D camera will be smaller in size, there is a possibility that Apple may reduce the bezels on the iPhone 8 as it can be seen on Galaxy S8 and LG G6.

The iPhone 8 is speculated to come with a 5.8-inch edge-to-edge OLED display. The physical Home button is expected to be replaced by a virtual one. Recent reports had revealed that the Cupertino company had encountered problems in embedding the Touch ID sensor under the display. Hence, the rumor mill started claiming that the iPhone 8 would arrive with only have eye-based biometric recognition feature. These rumors have faded away but Apple is heavily pegged to bring retina scanning on the next iPhone.

Rumors have it that the 2017 iPhone would be arriving with overhaul improvements to its design. Speculations are rife that apart from the iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus that may release this year, there is a possibility the Cupertino company may release a special version of iPhone. Hence, plenty of concept models of the alleged iPhone 8 have surfaced based on the speculated features and design that may arrive on the actual device.

Speculations indicate that the iPhone 8 will not be featuring a physical Home button as its display will occupy most portion on the front side of the phone. As it can be seen in these renders, the iPhone 8’s physical Home button has been replaced by an on-screen circle-shaped button that is equipped with Apple’s 3D Touch feature that can distinguish different levels of pressure.

There is a “function area” around it that can display customizable buttons. It functions like the Touch Bar available on the new MacBook Pro. Even KGI Securities analyst, Ming Chi-Kuo has speculated the inclusion of function area on the upcoming iPhone. It can also display different swipe-based interfaces relevant to what user is accessing on the screen. For example, if the user is editing a photo, the so-called function area can display different effects that can be accessed by swiping.

Coming to the display on the iPhone 8 concepts, it reveals that it would be gracing a bezel-less OLED screen. However, it may not carry support for the standard 9:16 aspect ratio as it may feature a taller display like the screens available on the LG G6 and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8. Since the “function area” can be seen occupying a certain portion of the screen, its actual screen size may be around 5.1 inches. The function area can temporary disappear when the user is watching videos or photos in the landscape mode. While watching videos in portrait mode, the function area will show a video scrubber for easily skipping back and forth.

Apple is expected to bring radical changes to the iPhone’s design as it is rumored to be testing around 10 prototypes for this year’s iPhone. The iPhone 8 is speculated to run on Apple A11 chipset and iOS 11. Rumors also claim that Apple will debut AR features which indicates that the iPhone 8 may house a 3D depth-sensing camera that can be also used in other apps like games and facial recognition.

Recent rumors have suggested that Apple the display of the iPhone 8 will be curved over the edges, a design that is similar to what is available on Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Now that the Apple’s display manufacture from Japan has confirmed that it is making flexible screens, it seems that the upcoming iPhone will be arriving with a curved display.

Japan Display did not confirm on the name of the device for which it is building flexible display. Huawei is also one of the customers of Japan Display and there is a possibility that the curved display may be for future phones from the Chinese brand. However, Apple is heavily pegged to introduce its first iPhone that will feature a bendable AMOLED screen later this year.

Related: Analyst Claims Apple to Launch iPhone X with Wraparound Display

In November 2016, Apple had filed a patent for a foldable iPhone that can bend at some degree. Now that Japan Display has confirmed on making flexible screens it seems that foldable iPhone may soon become a reality.

The flexible screens are quite different from bendable or foldable displays. It may take more time to see a smartphone with a foldable screen. Bendable displays will allow its customers to fold or roll it conveniently. Such kind of screen is unlikely to get cracked easily, but at present it is very costly.

The flexible screen for iPhone would also require it to feature bendable components. There are many rigid internal components such as the battery that is a big hurdle in building a flexible iPhone. It may take some time for iPhone with flexible screen to reach customers.

Hence, the flexible screen that Japan Display has confirmed seems to be similar to the dual-edge curved screen present on S7 Edge. Since its manufacturing cost is much less than building a bendable display, it is likely that the 2017 iPhone may arrive with a dual-edge curved screen.

Recently rumors had hinted at the existence of four difference iPhone models with varying screen sizes which would be launched along side each other next year. In addition to the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, Apple is said to be working on iPhone 7S and 7S Plus and that all four would be launched together next year.

The latest development to that rumor is that the next generation Apple iPhone 8 would only come as a 5.2-inch display sporting device. The iPhone 8 is the only model of the four likely to have an OLED display which is touted as a Samsung flexible OLED panel. Although the panel is said to come in sizes ranging from 5.7 to 5.8 inches, but the proces of making the phone’s screen will see some of that will be cut off and also some part will be covered.

This doesn’t in anyway mean the iPhone 8 is Apple’s only mobile phone for next year which is a commemorative year. There is the iPhone 7S coming at 4.7-inches, iPhone 7S Plus at 5.5-inches and then the 5.2-inch iPhone 8, according to latest rumor. The iPhone 8 Plus is conspicuously missing from this latest rumor. The iPhone 7S and 7S Plus are siad to be similar to previous gen iPhones with little change in appearance and would have a glass body and not aluminum alloy. An all glass body would mean Apple is jettisoning the bright black color variant on the 7S which is unlikely. We’ll like to believe the part that says the iPhone 7S would be a little cheaper, coming in at $150 to $200 less than the iPhone 8.

We can only take these rumors with a pinch of salt, though, while we make the long wait till next year.

That being so, the company had all along been tipped as planning a bigger surprise package for next year. Before now, rumors had it that the Cupertino company is working on the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus models. However, latest rumor from Japan hints at two more additional iPhone models for next year.

According to latest report in the Japanese media, Apple is preparing four iPhones for 2017. Thus, in addition to the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, the company is said to be working on two more models named, iPhone 7S and 7S Plus. The iPhone 7S and 7S Plus are both said to see slight upgrades from Apple’s present lineup, having the same shape as well as using the same aluminum body. The specifications might be upgraded in some aspect, like using the Apple A11 processor.

In addition, there is also likely to be a new red color variant in order to attract more users. The red variant will be in addition to the previous color variants like space gray, deep black, gold, rose gold and silver. The report also hints that Apple might use OLED display on only one out of the four models, which is likely the iPhone 8 Plus. The other three models would retain the LCD display Apple customarily uses, the report says.

It is also reported that the new iPhone will likely adopt double glass and metal frame design just like the iPhone 4 engraved version. The next gen Apple iPhones are also rumored to come with wireless charging support.
