CIS is a type of image sensor that has its readout circuit and photodiode layers stacked on top of each other. This makes the sensor faster and more sensitive to light, which means that it can take better pictures in low-light conditions.

Apple warns iPhone cameras can be damaged by motorcycle vibrations

iPhones have been used as navigational devices thanks to their powerful GPS capabilities. It is common to see iPhones mounted on motorbikes guiding the drivers in navigating uncharted terrains. However, Apple is saying that these iPhones mounted on motorbikes are liable to have their cameras permanently damaged due to the excessive vibrations from the motorcycles.

A new Apple Support post indicates that Apple is warning users that high amplitude vibrations generated by high-powered engines of motorcycles could damage the cameras of iPhones. Sometimes the damage could be permanent, according to the post. Bike riders usually mount their expensive iPhones on their bikes as a navigational tool.

The iPhone camera’s optical image stabilizer (OIS) and closed-loop autofocus (AF), according to Apple, could be damaged by such excessive vibrations. All iPhone models since iPhone 7 have both the OIS and AF features, which can be damaged when the device is exposed to excessive vibrations. These vibrations only apply to high-powered motorcycle engines and not e-bikes and mopeds which can have vibration dampening mounts for the iPhone.

Apple’s advisory on the use of iPhones on motorcycles may pose some questions for users. However, it is suggested that if the aim is to use a GPS device on your motorcycle, then you can get alternative and cheaper devices to provide the needed navigation when using your motorbike. The costs of repair of damaged iPhones can be highly prohibitive, hence the need to avoid such expensive repairs.

Apple orders for iPhone 13 camera parts could surpass entire Android market: Report

With the Apple iPhone 13 series expected to arrive with major camera upgrades, the suppliers have been facing increased pressure to provide the company with key lens components.

According to a DigiTimes report, the Cupertino based giant has apparently sent a notice to Taiwan based suppliers of VCM (voice coil motor) to increase their capacity by 30 to 40 percent in order to meet the demand for the upcoming iPhone lineup. This, in turn, implies that orders from the company could surpass the demand from the entire Android market this year, as per sources. On the other hand, this is also implies that the iPhone maker is focusing on the camera department for its upcoming flagship series.

The sources also added that the iPhone 13 series are expected to have upgrades in camera modules and 3D sensors for Face ID. This means that Apple has to increase the use of VCMs, which would have the company ask its component suppliers to raise their capacities by 30 to 40 percent in order to meet demands. Furthermore, these orders are also expected to begin surging soon as early as next month.

Meanwhile, the VCM orders from the Android market has reduced, with the US sanctions against Huawei being one of the reasons. With each passing year, Apple iPhones have required more VCM components, which are involved in camera lens focus function, since the company has been increasing the number and quality of its sensors. The iPhone 13 lineup is expected to be announced in the fall of this year.

Apple to warn users if Non Genuine Camera parts are installed in their iPhones

Apple has just rolled out new updates, which also brings an interesting warning function to iPhones. This new feature will warn users if their iPhone has a non genuine camera part installed.

According to an UberGizmo report, the Cupertino based giant rolled out a new iOS updates version 14.4. While first party repairs usually guarantee genuine parts for repairs, the same cannot be said for third party servicing. So, for those that might opt for such services, they might just be faced with multiple warnings soon after. Apple will now start pushing these warning notifications after the recent updates that allow an iPhone to detect non genuine camera components.

Keep in mind, this warning doesn’t mean that the camera becomes inoperable, it just means that there is a possibility that the user might face certain performance issues. As per an official Apple support document, these non genuine parts used in the iPhone might cause the camera to not be able to focus properly on a scene or subject. In other words, the end result of photography might have blurry or unfocused shots being produced.

Furthermore, this might also cause issues with the Portrait mode, while third party camera applications could also freeze up or stop functioning altogether. However, not all third party service centers use fake parts and Apple does have Authorized Service Providers as well. But if one does go for a more affordable repair, then they might just face these new warnings.
