Last year, Apple launched the iPhone 12 series and for the first time, adding 5G support to its smartphones. Now, the Cupertino-based tech giant is going all-in with the next-generation connectivity support.

This year, all the models in the iPhone 13 series will have 5G connectivity support, similar to iPhone 12 lineup. But not only that, all the iPhones getting launched in 2022 will have 5G connectivity, including the next-generation iPhone SE.

While the Apple iPhone SE 2022 will be getting 5G support, the company is expected to get rid of the iPhone Mini model next year as the demand for the model with a smaller screen didn’t meet the company’s expectations.

A new report from Nikkei Asia claims that the upcoming iPhone SE, which will get launched in the first half of 2022, will come powered by the Apple A15 Bionic chipset which will be powering this year’s iPhone models. It will also pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon X60 modem to enable 5G connectivity support.

Apple started offering OLED screens for the entire iPhone 12 lineup but the upcoming iPhone SE model will have an LCD display of 4.7-inch, claims the report citing four people aware of the development. It is expected to carry the same pricing as the current-generation model — $399.

It makes sense for Apple to go all-in when it comes to offering 5G connectivity on its smartphones given that the company was a later come to this new technology as most of its rivals, including Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO, etc. started offering 5G support on their devices, both premium and mid-range, since past couple of years.

A new report has just surfaced that has revealed interesting details regarding the 2022 Apple iPhone lineup. Reportedly, the iPhone 14 will arrive with a 48 megapixel image sensor, while the mini series from the company will be discontinued.

According to an AppleInsider report, known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has just predicted that the next gen high end iPhone 14 models from the company will apparently arrive with a 1/1.3 inch 48MP CMOS image sensor for the wide angle camera module. Since this is a 48 megapixel sensor, the Cupertino based giant could also have the device support hybrid operating modes and even pixel binning to maximize pixel size and improve the the sensors’ light gathering capabilities.

Kuo noted that “We believe that the new 2H22 iPhone may support direct 48MP output and 12MP (four cells merge output mode) output simultaneously. With 12MP output, the CIS pixel size of the new 2H22 iPhone increases to about 2.5um, which is significantly larger than the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, and larger than existing Android phones, and close to the DSC level.” Furthermore, the Pixel size is a native 48 megapixel resolutions and is around 1.25um.

In comparison, the iPhone 12’s pixel is 1.7um, while the iPhone 13’s pixel is rumored to be around a 2um. Owing to the high resolution, Kuo notes that we might soon see smartphones capable of recording 8K videos soon. This will mark a significant shift from 4K recordings from current gen. Although, the frame rates for the capture were not mentioned in the report, so stay tuned for more updates. Lastly, the analyst also added that the company will discontinue the iPhone mini lineup in 2022, and offer only 6.1 inch and 6.7 inch base and Pro variants.

The struggle for leadership in the growing smartphone market heats up between Samsung and Apple. One analyst even believe that in order to expand its market segment and increase the volume of sales, Apple will ready to unveiled the iPhone Mini.

This was done so that Apple could reach more consumers, especially those who could not afford an iPhone. At least this is the opinion from Startegy Analytics, Neil Mawston.

Samsung is reported to have a winner in the fight and possibly win the smartphone will continue in 2013. Mawston predicts this year, Samsung will sell as many as 290 million smartphones, while Apple is below the 180 million iPhones. Since playing in various segment, the Samsung is able to beat Apple.

Well, to fight back, it is believed that Apple will make the iPhone Mini as a ‘weapon’ seize the leadership of Samsung. As the name implies, the iPhone Mini will have a smaller size and of course with a more lower price. The arrival of iPhone Mini will be launch on 2014.

Another case opinion came from Peter Misek. He believes that the iPhone Mini is will pitch this year with an estimated price of USD 200-250.

Beyond the issue of the iPhone Mini, Apple-Samsung battle in 2013 is still interesting to note. Moreover, rumor has it, each faction was preparing champion respectively.

If the forecast is preparing Samsung Galaxy S4, Apple is also reportedly ready to built the new iPhone 5S. And the war not finish!
