iPhone SE 2020 DXOMark camera review ranks it lower than the Redmi K20 Pro

Apple recently launched the iPhone SE 2020 with the surprise inclusion of an A13 Bionic chipset which is the same chipset inside the iPhone 11 series. The iPhone SE 2020 may have included a flagship processor in the A13 Bionic but the camera performance is not on par with the iPhone 11, DXOMark review of the device’s camera has revealed this bit.

The review is coming just about a month after the 2020 iPhone SE’s audio was reviewed by DXOMark with a rating showing it is among the best for mid-range smartphones. The camera review didn’t perform badly either, as the device received an average score of 101 points for the back camera and 83 points for the selfie camera. The main camera recorded a score of 103 points for photos and 98 for videos which brings the overall score to 101 points.

While the budget-friendly Apple device offers comparable quality in many respects to the more expensive iPhone 11, its single-camera setup falls short for zoom and bokeh shots compared to the top-performing models on DXOMark.

The lack of an ultra-wide camera is also identified as a disadvantage and is the main difference between it and the iPhone 11. The overall score is the same with those of the iPhone X and Pixel3A but is lower than the Redmi K20 Pro which has an overall score of 102 points.

iPhone SE 2020 launched in China, pricing starts at 2899 yuan (~$409)

Apple launched the iPhone SE 2020 on April 15 with the pricing starting at $399 for the 64GB storage version. The iPhone SE has now been launched for sale in China. The main sales will kick off on April 24 but pre-sale commences at 8 PM UTC+1 today. Pricing starts at 3299 yuan ($466) for the 64GB variant while the 128GB storage version is priced at 3799 yuan ($537). The 256GB version comes with a 4599 yuan ($650) price tag. However, Apple is offering a 400 yuan (~$56) rebate on all the variants bringing down the starting price to 2899 yuan (~$409).

The iPhone SE 2020 is a 4G phone released at a time when the industry is rapidly shifting focus to 5G especially in China. Curiously, that may not affect the sales as the pricing and configuration make this a potentially hot-selling model in China. Fans are already ecstatic about the solid design and most especially the processor. The iPhone SE 2 packs an A13 Bionic chipset which is the same chipset inside the iPhone 11 series.

The iPhone SE 2020 adopts huge bezels around its 4.7-inch Retina HD display. The display supports Haptic Touch for Quick Actions (previewing messages, rearranging apps and more). The home button is covered in sapphire crystal and Touch ID is embedded with it. The rear panel is covered in glass and dorns a single 12MP camera.

Data from China Telecom reveals the iPhone SE packs a 1812mAh battery as well as 3GB of RAM. It comes with dual SIM (1 nano +eSIM) but the Chinese version only supports nano-SIM cards. The phone comes in three colours – Black, White, and Red.
