<p>The Chinese tech giant&#8217;s chip subsidiary announced the new ISP during the China Security Expo. It is called the HiSilicon Yueying ISP Engine, which is run by artificial intelligence and will power a new generation of smart IoTs (Internet of Things) products. In other words, it is an intelligent image processing engine that will be arriving in new smart products soon. The AI in the new ISP Engine is deeply integrated to ensure image quality whilst also establishing a new benchmark for AI powered imaging.</p>
<p>Meaning, it will enable breakthroughs for smarter and clearer picture quality in every scene. HiSilicon also showcased the new ISP&#8217;s capabilities in a number of tests, which highlighted its super sensitivity noise reduction that users deep earning to intelligently sharpen images in extremely low light scenes. This was demonstrated in a dark room where one couldn&#8217;t even properly discern between objects and their overall shape.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-296962 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/netflix-696x392.jpg?x10805" alt="Squid Game" width="696" height="392" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/netflix-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/netflix-696x392-300x169.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></p>
<p>The South Korean internet service provider is demanding Netflix to pay for the associated maintenance costs due to the spike it faced in networking traffic. For those unaware, Squid Game is a new Netflix series is based on the dystopian thriller type genre. Notably, the Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said is on pace to become the online movie streaming platform&#8217;s &#8220;biggest show ever.&#8221;</p>
<p>A Netflix spokesperson stated in an email to <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2021/10/01/south-korean-internet-service-provider-sues-netflix-over-squid-game.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>CNBC</em> </a>that &#8220;We will review the claim that SK Broadband has filed against us. In the meantime, we continue to seek open dialogue and explore ways of working with SK Broadband in order to ensure a seamless streaming experience for our shared customers.&#8221; Interestingly, this statement arrives after a South Korean court stated that Netflix should &#8220;reasonably&#8221; pay an amount to SK Broadband for network usage.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-416890 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Netflix-Squid-Game-poster-1200x633.jpg?x10805" alt="Squid Game" width="1200" height="633" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Netflix-Squid-Game-poster-1200x633.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Netflix-Squid-Game-poster-1200x633-300x158.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Netflix-Squid-Game-poster-1200x633-768x405.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Netflix-Squid-Game-poster-1200x633-1024x540.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Netflix-Squid-Game-poster-1200x633-696x367.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Netflix-Squid-Game-poster-1200x633-1068x563.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Netflix-Squid-Game-poster-1200x633-796x420.jpg 796w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>Furthermore, lawmakers in the region has also been calling out content providing platforms like Netflix that do not pay network usage fees. Although, Netflix revealed earlier this week that it helped create 16,000 jobs in South Korea. Unfortunately, SK Broadband did not respond to CNBC&#8217;s request to comment on the matter.</p>

Soon after that, the company&#8217;s Executive Vice President Hu Baishan officially confirmed that the company is indeed gearing up to launch the Vivo V1 ISP chip.</p>
<p>Today, the Chinese company has officially launched its first self-developed <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/chip">chip</a>, named Vivo V1 which is an Image Signal Processor. It has also been confirmed that the upcoming Vivo X70 series smartphones will come equipped with this new chip.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-410588 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-1.png?x10805" alt="Vivo V1 ISP Chip" width="826" height="551" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-1.png 826w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-1-300x200.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-1-768x512.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-1-696x464.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-1-630x420.png 630w" sizes="(max-width: 826px) 100vw, 826px" /></p>
<p>For launching this new Vivo V1 chip, a team of over 300 people worked for more than 24 months for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/research-and-development">Research &amp; Development</a> as well as the Chinese company had in-depth cooperation with smartphone processor manufacturers. This is to ensure that the Vivo V1 ISP works smoothly with the main processor without any compatibility issues.</p>
<p>The company claims that the new V1 chip offers high computing power, low latency, and low power consumption. Along with processing complex calculations at high speed, it can also complete parallel processing of data like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/gpu">GPU</a> and DSP. However, the company adds that Vivo V1 has massive improvement in energy efficiency ratio compared to DSP and CPU even when faced with a large number of complex operations.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-410589 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-4.jpeg?x10805" alt="Vivo V1 ISP Chip" width="827" height="332" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-4.jpeg 827w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-4-300x120.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-4-768x308.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-4-696x279.jpeg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 827px) 100vw, 827px" /></p>
<p>Vivo has optimized the data storage architecture as well as the high-speed read and write circuits inside the chip to maximize simultaneous processing capacity. It is able to achieve an equivalent of 32MB large cache with on-chip storage.</p>
<p>The company claims that it surpasses current flagship desktop <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/processor">processors</a> when it comes to low-latency real-time noise reduction and frame insertion. When processing tasks with the same amount of calculation at high speed, the dedicated algorithm in Vivo V1 reduces the power consumption of the hardware circuit by about 50 percent.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-410591 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-2.png?x10805" alt="Vivo V1 ISP Chip" width="828" height="340" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-2.png 828w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-2-300x123.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-2-768x315.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-2-696x286.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 828px) 100vw, 828px" /></p>
<p>Vivo also worked with the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Zeiss">Zeiss</a> team to over technical limitations like process and yield and the glass lenses can now offer high light transmittance, ultra-low dispersion, and thermal stability. The AOA dynamic optical calibration process is used to adjust the sharpness reduction by lens thickness errors and lens eccentric errors.</p>
<p>The China-based company has also introduced <span class="accentTextColor">SWC coating technology</span> which ensures that the reflected light is fully suppressed, and the reflectivity is reduced to a minimum of 0.1%, which greatly improves the quality.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-410590 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-3.png?x10805" alt="Vivo V1 ISP Chip" width="826" height="471" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-3.png 826w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-3-300x171.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-3-768x438.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-3-696x397.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Vivo-V1-3-737x420.png 737w" sizes="(max-width: 826px) 100vw, 826px" /></p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/vivo">Vivo</a> and Zeiss also worked through 140 color card performance and 3D color mapping matrix algorithms to adjust 262,144 parameters to make the hue more accurate and the saturation processing more refined. As a result, the hue accuracy ΔE is increased by approximately 15.5%, bringing more natural colors.</p>
<p>As noted, the Vivo V1 ISP chip will be equipped in the upcoming Vivo <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/09/01/vivo-x70-global-launch-sept-10-origin-os-tipster/">X70 series smartphones</a> that are set to be officially launched in the Chinese market on 9th September at 19:30 local time. Soon after the China launch, the smartphone lineup is expected to have its global launch.</p>

<p>He has also confirmed that the upcoming Vivo X70 series smartphones will come equipped with this new Vivo V1 <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/isp">ISP chip</a>. Further, he has also revealed that the upcoming flagship smartphones from the brand will be made official next month, i.e. in September.</p>
<figure id="attachment_408576" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-408576" style="width: 700px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-408576 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Vivo-V1-Chip-Leak-2.png?x10805" alt="Vivo V1 Chip Leak" width="700" height="398" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Vivo-V1-Chip-Leak-2.png 700w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Vivo-V1-Chip-Leak-2-300x171.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Vivo-V1-Chip-Leak-2-696x396.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-408576" class="wp-caption-text">Leaked image of mass-produced Vivo V1 ISP chip</figcaption></figure>
<p>Hu Baishan added that while the company is starting with its self-developed ISP, the plan is also considering laying out chips on other tracks &#8212; Design, Image, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/performance">Performance</a>, and System, which was established by Vivo last year.</p>
<p>It is being reported that it took about two years for the company to develop its own ISP chip which has now reportedly completed mass production. The chip department at Vivo reportedly has a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/research-and-development">Research &amp; Development</a> team of more than 300 members and the company is also looking to fill many more vacancies in the same department.</p>
<p>The development is in line with the company&#8217;s long-term vision as revealed by the Founder and CEO of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/vivo">Vivo</a>, Shen Wei earlier this year. The company is set to heavily invest in technological innovation as well as strategic resources for improving design, imaging, and performance, as well as other areas that users are paying more attention to.</p>
<p>So far, we are aware of two chip-related trademarks from the Chinese firm — Vivo SoC and Vivo Chip. The product categories covered by these two trademarks include central processing units, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/modem">modems</a>, computer chips, printed circuits, and computer storage.</p>
<p>Chinese smartphone manufacturers are now spending more on innovation and becoming self-reliant after the issues faced by Huawei when it was banned by the United States. It will be interesting to see what Vivo has up its sleeves in this department. OPPO, the sister company of Vivo, is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/07/27/oppo-vivo-self-developed-in-house-isp-chip-report/">also developing its own chip</a> which is expected to be officially released with the Find X4 smartphone early next year.</p>

The chip, which has been codenamed &#8220;Yueying,&#8221; has now appeared in the leaked image.</p>
<p>The leaked image has been shared by reliable tipster <em>Digital Chat Station</em> and it reveals that the first chip from the Chinese smartphone manufacturer will be called <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/vivo">Vivo</a> V1 as the branding appears on the chip.</p>

<p>The image shows the physical map of the Vivo V1 chip, indicating that the mass production may have been completed or is still undergoing. In any case, it is expected to be officially announced soon. While the launch date is not yet known, reports indicate that Vivo&#8217;s first in-house chip <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/08/23/vivo-self-developed-isp-x70-series-smartphones/">could be announced</a> along with the Vivo X70 series smartphones next month.</p>
<p>So far, we are aware of two chip-related trademarks from the company — Vivo SoC and Vivo Chip. The product categories covered by these two trademarks include central processing units, modems, computer chips, printed circuits, and computer storage.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s noteworthy that Vivo partnered with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> for the Research &amp; Development of chipset and the Chinese brand was closely associated with the development, providing in-depth inputs during the process.</p>
<p>Vivo is quite focused on developing <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/chip">chips</a> as the company is planning to have a team of around 500-600 members in this department. It is currently looking to hire several new team members to the chip division for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/research-and-development">Research &amp; Development</a>. <p>OPPO, the sister company of Vivo, is also developing its own chip which is expected to be officially released with the Find X4 smartphone early next year. Both these companies are following the footsteps of Xioami which has <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/03/30/380919-xiaomi-surge-c1-image-signal-processing-chip-china-features/">already launched an ISP chip</a> named Surge C1.</p>

<p>As <a href="https://www.ithome.com/0/570/857.htm">per the latest report</a>, Vivo&#8217;s first self-developed ISP chip, which is codenamed &#8220;Yueying,&#8221; could be made official next month, i.e., September 2021. It is also being reported that the upcoming <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/vivo-x70">Vivo X70 series</a> could become the first devices to pack this new chip.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-324003 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Vivo-X50-Camera-Teaser-1.jpeg?x10805" alt="Vivo X50 Micro Gimbal Camera" width="1600" height="900" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Vivo-X50-Camera-Teaser-1.jpeg 1600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Vivo-X50-Camera-Teaser-1-300x169.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Vivo-X50-Camera-Teaser-1-768x432.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Vivo-X50-Camera-Teaser-1-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Vivo-X50-Camera-Teaser-1-696x392.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Vivo-X50-Camera-Teaser-1-1068x601.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Vivo-X50-Camera-Teaser-1-747x420.jpeg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px" /></p>
<p>Vivo seems to be quite focused on developing its own <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/chip">chips</a> as the company is planning to have a team of around 500-600 members in this department, claimed Hu Baishan, Executive Vice President at Vivo. In September 2019, while acknowledging the company&#8217;s plan of making its own chips, he added that Vivo started thinking about it in 2018.</p>
<p>The company is also looking to hire several new team members of the chip division for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/research-and-development">Research &amp; Development</a> and is willing to pay them handsomely, at least that&#8217;s what the report from <em>ITHome</em> indicates.</p>
<p>So far, we are aware of two chip-related trademarks from the company &#8212; Vivo SoC and Vivo Chip. The product categories covered by these two trademarks include central processing units, modems, computer chips, printed circuits, and computer storage.</p>
<p>Vivo has also planned to invest a huge amount in the Research &amp; Development of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/5g">5G</a>, Artificial Intelligence, and other emerging technologies. Its sister company OPPO is also developing its own chip which is expected to release with the Find X4 smartphone early next year. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oppo">OPPO</a>&#8216;s chip development team has about 1,000 members.</p>
<p>Another Chinese brand, Xiaomi has already launched its first self-developed ISP chip named <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/03/30/380919-xiaomi-surge-c1-image-signal-processing-chip-china-features/">Surge C1</a> and is packed in the company&#8217;s first foldable smartphone &#8212; Mi MIX Fold which was launched last year.</p>
<p>The development of making their own chips seems like a precautionary move since Chinese companies are now investing more to become self-reliant after China-based tech giant <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a> was put on the &#8220;Entity List&#8221; by the United States. It effectively banned the company from doing business or procuring components from US-based companies.</p>

The X series is known for its camera capabilities and <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/vivo">Vivo</a> plans to raise the bar with the next-gen models reported to be scheduled for a September launch. A new leak has revealed an important feature that will help the X70 series achieve superior camera performance.</p>
<p>According to the Weibo user @熊猫很禿然, Vivo will ship the X70 series with a self-developed image signal processor. The ISP should be soldered onto the board as a separate chip, and together with Vivo&#8217;s imaging algorithm, the Vivo X70 series should take better photos.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-401306" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Vivo-X70-series.jpg?x10805" alt="Vivo X70 series" width="612" height="162" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Vivo-X70-series.jpg 612w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Vivo-X70-series-300x79.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 612px) 100vw, 612px" /></p>
<p>The news is surprising as there were no previous reports that Vivo was developing its own chip. Earlier this month, we learned that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/07/06/oppo-is-developing-its-own-isp-image-signal-processor/">OPPO is developing its own ISP</a> but we do not know when it will appear on a phone. Vivo has kept the development of its own ISP a secret until now, and we can&#8217;t wait to see the improvements it brings to the X70 series.</p>
<p>The source also mentions a micro pan-tilt feature and a telescopic lens for the Vivo X70 series. A<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/07/08/vivo-x70-launch-time-frame-display-camera-capabilities-leaked/"> leak also revealed the main camera of the X70 has an aperture of f/1.5 and that the device will have 5-axis image stabilization</a>.</p>

These investments have paid off with the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-find-x3-pro/">Find X3 Pro</a> as proof, as it boasts incredible camera features. Now, a new report has revealed that OPPO&#8217;s camera game is about to get even better.</p>
<p>Chinese leaker, Digital Chat Station, revealed via a Weibo post that OPPO is developing its own image signal processor (ISP) in a bid to improve the camera performance of its phones.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-398203" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/OPPO-ISP.jpg?x10805" alt="OPPO ISP" width="628" height="160" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/OPPO-ISP.jpg 628w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/OPPO-ISP-300x76.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 628px) 100vw, 628px" /></p>
<p>This move follows in the footsteps of <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi">Xiaomi</a> who unveiled its own ISP, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/03/30/380919-xiaomi-surge-c1-image-signal-processing-chip-china-features/">Surge C1</a>, this year. The Surge C1 made its debut in the company&#8217;s first foldable phone, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-mi-mix-fold/">Mi MIX Fold</a>.</p>
<p>There isn&#8217;t a lot of information about OPPO&#8217;s ISP including when we should expect to see it. While it may appear first in the Find X4 series (or Find X5), we won&#8217;t be surprised to see it also make its way into a <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus">OnePlus</a> phone. Both companies have merged, and OnePlus, which will now operate as a sub-brand going forward will have access to OPPO&#8217;s resources and technologies.</p>
<p>An unconfirmed report from a few days ago <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/07/03/leak-says-oneplus-and-find-x-series-will-be-oppos-flagship-lines/">revealed that OnePlus will now be one of OPPO&#8217;s flagship lines</a>. It will be positioned in a similar fashion to Huawei&#8217;s P series and will also focus on offering high-end camera performance. Considering that 10 is the next number in OnePlus&#8217;s naming scheme, we can expect significant upgrades when the OnePlus 10 series arrives next year.</p>

<p>As reported by AP(via <a href="https://gadgets.ndtv.com/internet/news/google-facebook-twitter-tech-giants-pakistan-leave-threaten-content-censorship-rules-2328326">Gadgets360</a>), Pakistan Government has granted more powers to the Media Regulators. Accordingly, the new change affects <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ISP">Internet Service Providers</a>(ISP)/ Social Media Companies. It says that social media companies should remove obscene content from the internet within 24hours. They will face a fine of up to $3.14 million(~₹23.28 Crores) if they fail to restrict defamatory content. Precisely, the content that is against Islam and National security, Promotes terrorism, hate speech, and pornography.</p>
<p>Additionally, Social media companies should provide(via <a href="https://www.dawn.com/news/1591357">DAWN</a>) any data in &#8220;decrypted, readable and comprehensive format&#8221; whenever demanded by Pakistan&#8217;s Investigation Agency. The World&#8217;s fifth-most populous country also wants the companies to set up offices locally. That said, this has drawn a lot of criticism especially from the Asia Internet Coalition(AIC).</p>

<p>For the unware, <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/AIC">AIC</a> was established in 2010 as an Industry association. It aims to promote the understanding of Internet policy issues in the Asia-Pacific region. Coming back, AIC says that the <a href="https://aicasia.org/2020/11/20/pakistan-aic-issues-media-statement-on-removal-and-blocking-of-unlawful-content-procedure-oversight-and-safeguards-rules-20-nov-2020/">new law is alarming</a> as it targets internet companies. It goes on to say that the draconian data localization requirements will hamper the Internet&#8217;s affordability and accessibility. In turn, it will reportedly cut off Pakistan&#8217;s digital economy from the rest.</p>
<p>For the unware, Pakistan govt <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/10/pakistan-is-the-latest-to-join-the-list-of-countries-in-banning-tiktok/">banned</a> short-form video platform TikTok after observing a lot of obscene anti-Islamic videos on it. It then went on to remove the ban after <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/19/pakistan-lifts-tiktok-ban-following-promise-to-moderate-content/">TikTok promised to moderate</a> the content. Although Pakistan&#8217;s Govt is yet to comment on AIC&#8217;s response, we feel that it needs to act swiftly to coordinate with the relevant parties and find a solution.</p>
