Japanese automaker Isuzu has unveiled its first electric bus, the Isuzu Erga EV. The Erga EV is being touted as the world’s first battery electric flat-floor bus. It was on display during the 2023 Japan Mobility Show and is scheduled to enter the Japanese market in 2024.

Features

The Isuzu Erga EV has a seating capacity of 90 passengers and a range of up to 300km. It is equipped with an array of components that ensure a safe and comfortable ride. These include automatic emergency braking system (AEBS), lane departure warning, and blind spot monitoring systems. The bus also features adaptive cruise control and USB charging ports for passengers.

The flat-floor, low-height design of the Erga EV, in addition to its flexible layout, means that there are no steps at the rear of the bus. This creates a fully-wide and easily accessible interior which allows passengers to easily hop in or get off the bus.

The Isuzu Erga lacks a large power plant which resulted in its passenger-friendly interior architecture. It is powered by a rear-wheel drive permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). The motor is very efficient and has a high power density, delivering smoother acceleration/ deceleration, as well as lower noise and vibration. The design of the Erga maximizes the comfort and safety of passengers inside the bus.

Isuzu continues its pursuit of zero carbon emissions in Japan. It has continued to evolve innovative solutions since 2010 when it released the Selective Catalytic Reduction System. Isuzu began its electrification efforts with the launch of the Elf EV in 2012. The release of the Isuzu Erga in 2024 will mark another milestone in its carbon-neutral contributions.
