In January of this year, details about the JioPhone 5G were made known, unveiling its complete specifications. The phone is anticipated to be released as India’s most budget-friendly 5G device. Recently, an unannounced JioPhone 5G unit was obtained by a Twitter user, who not only shared live images of the device but also provided some insights into its expected launch date and price.

The new leak reveals that the JioPhone 5G will be released in India between Diwali and the New Year. This indicates that the phone will be available for purchase in the country in the last quarter of this year.

It is likely that the JioPhone 5G will be priced under Rs 10,000 (~$122), which means that it may arrive as the most affordable 5G phone in India. The source is not clear whether the device features a Unisoc chip or a MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC. However, the leak states that the phone is equipped with a 5-megapixel front camera and a 13-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual-camera system on the back.

The text “ultimate speed, unlimited experiences” is imprinted at the bottom of the back panel.

Reliance Jio stated in July last year that its first 5G smartphone would soon be available in India. The gadget was supposed to make its debut in July of this year. There haven’t been any indications of a launch, though.

Now, the smartphone has finally appeared on Geekbench, confirming some of its specs while also indicating that the smartphone might launch soon. Let’s check out the details.

The Geekbench listing shows that the Jio Phone 5G has the model number LS1654QB5. It features an octa-core processor with two cores clocked at 2.21 GHz and the remaining six cores clocked at 1.90 GHz. The processor is paired with an Adreno 619 GPU. This is the Snapdragon 480+ SoC, which is the entry-level 5G chipset offered by Qualcomm.

Additionally, the listing confirms that Jio’s low-cost 5G smartphone will have 4GB of RAM. It should have at least 64GB of internal storage, at the very least. Furthermore, the Geekbench listing shows that the phone will ship with Android 12 pre-installed. It might have Jio’s PragatiOS, a forked version of Android, on top. With support for many regional languages, the skin has been tailored for Indian users.

In the single-core and multi-core tests on Geekbench, the Jio Phone 5G received scores of 549 and 1661. The listing does not reveal any further details, however, some specifications of the upcoming device have already been leaked.

According to previous reports, the Jio Phone 5G is expected to debut with a 6.5-inch HD+ LCD screen that offers a refresh rate of 90Hz. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 480+ chipset will draw power from a 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging. The camera setup on the back is expected to comprise of a 13MP primary and a 2MP secondary lens. On the front, the device is said to have an 8MP snapper. Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 5.1, and a Syntiant NDP115 always-on AI processor are also expected to be included.

Yesterday (Oct. 1), the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, was at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) to launch commercial 5G services in the country. Airtel 5G, Reliance Jio, and Vi are the first telecom operators in the country to confirm when their 5G services will be available.

5G will be made available in a phased manner across India. The first batch of cities where the 5G network will be available include Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune, Siliguri, and Varanasi.

Airtel 5G

Airtel’s 5G networks are now available in eight cities, such as Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Siliguri, and Varanasi. The telecom operator will add more cities by March 2023, and its 5G services will be available across India by March 2024.

Reliance Jio 5G

Reliance Jio’s 5G services are set to begin by Diwali (Oct. 24) this year. It will arrive first in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai. By December 2023, its 5G services will be made available across the country.

Vi and BSNL

Vi is yet to confirm the 5G rollout timeline. Hopefully, the telecom operator will reveal more details about its 5G plans soon. BSNL confirmed that its 5G services will be available from Aug. 15, 2023, onwards.

None of the above-mentioned telecom operators have announced their 5G tariffs and pricing. However, Jio has claimed that its 5G plans will be affordable. As it is known, Reliance Jio is a planned to launch an ultra-affordable 5G phone in the country. A recent report revealed the key specifications of the alleged Jio Phone 5G.

It goes without saying that users need to have a 5G phone to get connected to a 5G network. Airtel has said that the existing Airtel SIM is 5G-ready. So, there is no need to replace the existing 4G SIM. As far as pricing is concerned, Airtel confirmed that, at present, its 5G services will be available at the existing 4G rates. The company will confirm new 5G tariffs at some point later.

The company had previously launched the Jio 4G smartphone, and now it is reportedly working on a new 5G smartphone, dubbed Jio Phone 5G. The handset is expected to launch soon, but ahead of it, a new report has revealed its pricing. Here are the details.

According to a new report by Counterpoint Research, Reliance Jio will price its first 5G smartphone in the range of Rs 8,000 to Rs 12,000 (Via). Jio would wait for its 5G network to spread before targeting a bigger base of mass-market 4G smartphone consumers with its 5G smartphones.

“Further, at some point in 2024, Jio will also be compelled to launch an affordable 5G mmWave + sub-6GHz smartphone as the cost deltas between the two have narrowed significantly from the overall BoM (bill of materials) fitting perspective,” the report said.
