Redmi K30 Pro is the latest flagship killer from the house of Redmi. This phone is the direct successor to the last year’s immensely popular Redmi K20 Pro. Though it is only the second generation flagship smartphone by the brand, it packs everything one needs in a premium device without shelling out more penny. Now, it is expected to get even better with third-party software development as the company officially releases its source code on GitHub.

Xiaomi is well-known for being developer-friendly since the beginning. This applies to Redmi as well because it still comes under Xiaomi even though it was termed independent in late 2018 before the launch of Redmi Note 7 series.

Due to this, Xiaomi smartphone users have been enjoying using a variety of custom ROMs based on new iterations of Android whenever releases. In fact, most enthusiast smartphone users buy Xiaomi products for this reason apart from bang for buck hardware they offer.

The Redmi K30 Pro runs Xiaomi’s MIUI Android skin, which although is feature-rich in its own way, is still not a cup of tea for everyone, even in its 11th generation. But thankfully, as Xiaomi has released kernel source code for the device, we can expect developers to come up with custom recoveries, custom ROMs, mods, and what not as an alternative to MIUI 11 that the device comes with.

A few days back, MIUI camera app from the then-latest MIUI 11 beta build clearly suggested the Redmi K30 Pro will launch under POCO brand in India. But yesterday the brand’s general manager C Manmohan denied the device being launching as Poco F2, however, he did not mean the product to not launch at all. Maybe, the device will be rebranded as something else for the country like Poco X2 Pro.

Xiaomi had just recently launched its Mi 10 series of flagship smartphones. Right after the launch in China, the Chinese tech giant has also uploaded the Kernel Source for the Mi 10 and the Mi 10 Pro.

The Mi 10 series is the latest flagship offering from Xiaomi. Being a flagship lineup, the devices arrive with top notch specs, including Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 SoC (Systems on Chip) alongside the X55 5G Modem. Handsets from the company have known to be a great value for money and the same has been touted for Xiaomi’s Mi 10 series.

The move from Xiaomi to release the Kernel source is very good news. Initially, the company had committed to releasing the kernel sources for its handset offerings within 3 months of the launch, but it seems like the company is already one step ahead with the recent launch. Notably, a kernel source is the heart of any operating system.

Just one day after the Mi 10’s launch, the company released the kernel source is how the a proper kernel release should go about since the GPLv2 license implies that changes to the kernel source must be launched in a timely manner; something Xiaomi had been lacking in.

For those unaware, the Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro are codenamed “umi” and “cmi” respectively. Both devices feature the same processor with a decent RAM and ROM offering. However, the areas the Mi 10 Pro outshines the base variant is the 20 megapixel ultra wide angle lens, a dual 12 megapixel front facing cameras and the hybrid 10x zoom.

Razer Phone 2 received Android 9.0 Pie update less than a month ago, and its updated Kernel source code is now available. The source code would come in handy for the custom ROM and third-party recovery development. Interested users can get the source code and factory images from the Razer’s official website.

It’s mandatory for smartphone manufacturers to release the modifications they do on the Linux Kernel (Android). The AT&T’s and other carrier specific kernels are also available for download.

Razer Phone 2 received plenty of new improvements such as gesture navigation, 4K video recording at 60 FPS, and Digital Wellbeing via Android Pie update.

It’s a boon for the developers as factory images and kernel source will assist them in creating third-party MODs and ROMs.

As a reminder, Razer Phone 2 is an impressive gaming smartphone featuring Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, Adreno 630 GPU, Vapor Chamber cooling system, 8GB RAM, 4000 mAh Battery, and QC 4.0 support. Motorola has started rolling out the Android 9 Pie update to the majority of its devices. They have already rolled out the Android Pie update for Moto G6, G6 Play, Z3 Play and few other devices. Along with the official availability of the Android 9.0 Pie on Moto G6 Plus and P30 Note device, Kernel source has also been released. The Lenovo owned company has published Android Pie based kernel source codes for both the devices.

It’s a boon for users, as the new kernel source would allow the developers to create custom ROMs based on the Android Pie for both the device. Motorola took to Github and published the new kernel sources for P30 Note and Moto G6 Plus. The first kernel package is for the ‘Chef’ aka P30 Note. Although, a similarly nicknamed named device, Motorola One Power is also speculated to receive the kernel package. Overall, both the devices will get custom ROMs based on Android Pie soon.

Another device is the Moto G6 Plus, nicknamed ‘Evert’.  The kernel source for G6 Plus will not be compatible with the Moto G6 device. Although, concerned developers can start downloading the kernel source from the source link below.

Motorola has always remained ahead in distributing the kernel source code of their devices. It’s a rule distribute the new kernel source code under the GPLv2 license of Linux which legally necessitates kernel source code distribution.

Additionally, Motorola launched P30 Note in Septemeber, 2018 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset. It is available in 4/6GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage. On the other hand, Moto G6 Plus launched last year in May with Snapdragon 630 chipset. It is available in two different variants of 4/6GB RAM and 64/128 GB internal storage. Both devices have received a good response and managed to garner huge sales.
