<p>The controversies and rumors surrounding Huawei&#8217;s Kirin 9000s chip have not ceased, and the lack of official information is only making it worse. Last month, a research firm <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/10/02/kirin-9000s-14nm-chip-huawei-modified-closer-to-7nm/">revealed</a> the processor, believed to be manufactured by SMIC on a 7nm process, is actually based on a 14nm node and has been modified to be closer to 7nm. This was a rather surprising development. However, a tipster has now shared speculations about the Kirin 9000s actually being a 5nm TSMC-made Kirin 9000 chip from 3 years ago.</p>

<h2>Huawei &#8220;successfully pranked the whole world,&#8221; said tipster</h2>

<p>Tipster RGcloudS claims on X that the Kirin 9000s is not a 7nm chipset from SMIC, but rather the Kirin 9000 chip produced using a 5nm process by TSMC. To support these claims, the tipster has shared a picture from the teardown of the Mate 60 Pro. This image reveals the Kirin 9000s with a date stamp indicating 2035, signifying that this particular chip was manufactured during the 35th week of 2020, specifically between August 24th and August 30th, 2020.</p>

</div></figure>

<p>The source also gets into the politics behind the restrictions imposed by the US on <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a>. He mentions the Chinese company likely anticipated the trade ban and stockpiled millions of Kirin 9000E and 9000 chips. For those who are unaware, the US expanded its export rules to prevent foundries that use US technology to manufacture chips from shipping cutting-edge silicon to Huawei without a license. As a result, the last few flagship Huawei series have only used 4G chipsets, as 5G technology is patented by US companies.</p>

<p>The mystery surrounding the Kirin 9000s doesn’t seem to be unfolding. We tried to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/09/06/huawei-mate-60-pro-kirin-9000s-chip-explained/">answer the important questions about the chip</a> in a recent post. Separately, rumors suggest Huawei is ready to launch yet <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/10/13/huawei-launch-new-kirin-830-chip-nova-12-series/">another Kirin chip</a> by the end of this year.</p>

<p>It features an octa-core CPU with custom cores, CPU hyper-threading, and a Maliang 910 GPU. In benchmarks, it falls behind the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-gen-2/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snapdragon 8 Gen 2</a> but matches the Snapdragon 888, making it two generations behind. Notably, the Kirin 9000s supports 5G and is the world&#8217;s first commercial smartphone to offer satellite calling capability.</p>

<h2>Huawei&#8217;s Strategic Move Towards In-House Dominance</h2>

<p>Now according to a Weibo tipster Fixed Focus, Huawei has stockpiled a large number of Kirin 9000S chips, around 40-45 million units, to meet market demand. These chips will be used in the Mate60 series for several months, but they might also be used in <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/09/26/huawei-nova-12-and-12-pro-specs-alleged-revealed-launch-soon/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">some phones from the Nova 12 series</a> with possible changes in specifications. Additionally, the Kirin 9000S will be important for Huawei&#8217;s upcoming P70 series.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="949" height="387" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/image-5.png?x44794" alt="Huawei Kirin 9000S chip stock leak" class="wp-image-573481" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/image-5.png 949w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/image-5-300x122.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/image-5-768x313.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/image-5-696x284.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 949px) 100vw, 949px" /></figure></div>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei</a> <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/09/07/huaweis-kirin-9000s-chips-qualcomm-trouble/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">plans to cut ties with Qualcomm</a> and exclusively use its in-house Kirin processors for new models starting in 2024, according to analyst Guo Mingcheng. This shift could lead to a significant drop of 50 to 60 million units in Qualcomm SoC shipments to Chinese smartphone brands in 2024 compared to 2023.</p>

<p>Huawei&#8217;s strategy change is expected to boost its position in the smartphone market, with the Mate60 series potentially reaching global sales of 50 million units, primarily targeting domestic consumers and not intending to expand into overseas markets. This move signals Huawei&#8217;s reliance on its own chip technology.</p>

<p>Kirin 9000s is Huawei&#8217;s latest 5G chipset, which powers its flagship <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei </a>Mate 60 smartphones. You might have heard a lot of chatter around this chip, and that&#8217;s because technically it shouldn&#8217;t exist. The US banned Huawei from accessing technologies necessary to manufacture advanced chips like the Kirin 9000s. However, the Chinese company managed to achieve this feat anyway, and we are now learning that they did it by modifying a 14nm chipset.</p>

<h2>Kirin 9000s is full of secrets</h2>

<p>Minatake Mitchell Kashio, the CEO of Tokyo-based electronics research firm Fomalhaut Techno Solutions, shared with the South China Morning Post his belief that the Kirin 9000s CPU was manufactured using SMIC&#8217;s 14-nm process, as determined through their own analysis of handset teardowns. He suggested that certain special techniques were incorporated to enhance the chip&#8217;s performance, bringing it closer to the level of a 7-nm grade processor.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="728" height="485" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Kirin-9000S-Bloomberg.jpg?x44794" alt="Kirin-9000S-Bloomberg" class="wp-image-571607" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Kirin-9000S-Bloomberg.jpg 728w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Kirin-9000S-Bloomberg-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Kirin-9000S-Bloomberg-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Kirin-9000S-Bloomberg-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px" /><figcaption>Image Credit- Bloomberg</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>If you are not aware, the smaller the process node, the better the processor. So a 7nm processor would be better than a 14nm processor. This is because a smaller process node allows manufacturers to put transistors into the chip.</p>

<p>Kashio’s findings refute Techinsights’ claims that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/09/06/huawei-mate-60-pro-kirin-9000s-chip-explained/">Kirin 9000s</a> is fabricated on SMIC’s 7nm (N+2) process. However, he did not elaborate on the techniques employed by Huawei or SMIC to bring the 14nm processor closer to 7nm. In any case, it looks like there are a ton of secrets behind the Kirin 9000s and no official details.</p>

<p>Huawei’s 5G chipset has left the world wondering how they managed to come up with it. To remind you, the Kirin 9000s features an octa-core CPU with hyper-threading support, making it the first ARM chip to do so. It comprises a prime core clocked at 2.62 GHz, three median cores at 2.15 GHz, and four efficiency cores.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a> has recently introduced the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60/">Mate 60 5G</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-pro/">Mate 60 Pro 5G</a> in China. Many Huawei fans felt that the company would hold a launch event to unveil the Mate 60 series. However, instead of hosting an event, the company decided to reveal them by listing the devices on Huawei Mall (Vmall). Initial reports suggested that Huawei might hold a launch event in September to introduce additional devices, including the Mate 60 Pro+ 5G and the Huawei Mate X5 foldable phone. Surprisingly, Huawei has followed the same pattern by directly listing these products on the Huawei Mall without a dedicated launch event. Here is a look at the specifications, features, and price of the Mate X5.</p>

<h3><strong>Huawei Mate X5 specifications and features</strong></h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-style-default"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei-Mate-X5-1024x576.png?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate X5 " class="wp-image-565106" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei-Mate-X5-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei-Mate-X5-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei-Mate-X5-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei-Mate-X5-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei-Mate-X5-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei-Mate-X5-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei-Mate-X5.png 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Huawei Mate X5 </figcaption></figure>

<p>Last week, Huawei quietly released the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60/">Mate 60</a> and the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-pro/">Mate 60 Pro</a> in China. An <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/09/06/huawei-mate-60-pro-kirin-9000s-chip-explained/">HiSilicon Kirin 9000s chip</a> powers these 5G-enabled devices.</p>

<p>As per rumors and leaks, more products from the company will use this new chip. Recently, we learned one of them <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/30/premium-huawei-tablet-with-kirin-9-series-chip-in-the-works/">will be a premium tablet</a>.</p>

<p>Earlier today, a tipster revealed that the company’s next foldable will also house this chipset. He also disclosed the name of the phone and its memory configuration.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="573" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Huawei-Mate-X3--1024x573.png?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate X3" class="wp-image-524654" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Huawei-Mate-X3--1024x573.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Huawei-Mate-X3--300x168.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Huawei-Mate-X3--768x430.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Huawei-Mate-X3--1536x859.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Huawei-Mate-X3--696x389.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Huawei-Mate-X3--1068x597.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Huawei-Mate-X3--751x420.png 751w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Huawei-Mate-X3-.png 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Huawei Mate X3</figcaption></figure>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-x3/">Huawei Mate X3</a> is currently the latest foldable smartphone from Huawei. According to a leaker, this device will be succeeded by the Huawei Mate X5 by skipping the X4 moniker.</p>

<p>Chinese brands are known to omit the number ‘4’ in the name of their products as it is considered a bad omen. But Huawei does not follow this norm. If this leak is to be believed, it would be a first for the company.</p>

<p>The tipster <a href="https://weibo.com/5821279480/NicaW57mr">says</a> that the Huawei Mate X5 will arrive in standard and collector’s edition. They will be offered in the following memory configurations.</p>

<ul><li>Huawei Mate X5 (5 Colors)<ul><li>12GB + 256GB</li><li>12GB + 512GB</li><li>16GB + 512GB</li></ul></li><li>Huawei Mate X5 Collector’s Edition (4 Colors)<ul><li>16GB + 512GB</li><li>16GB + 1TB</li></ul></li></ul>

<p>Another leaker <a href="https://weibo.com/1471509340/Nia5Hwhz7">reveals</a> that the device will be available in black, white, blue, gold, and purple color options.</p>

<p>Unfortunately, none of them mention when the phone will be unveiled. Since the Mate X3 was just <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/03/23/huawei-mate-x3-launched-with-120hz-oled-foldable-screen-snapdragon-8-plus-gen-1-50mp-triple-cameras/">launched earlier this year</a>, its successor might arrive at the end of 2023 or early 2024.</p>

<p>However, Huawei is mysterious regarding the smartphones powered by its new Kirin 9000s SoC. So we wouldn’t be surprised if the Mate X5 goes official in the next few weeks.</p>

<p><a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a> managed to get the world’s attention with its new Mate 60 series of smartphones. Announced without a formal event, the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60">Mate 60</a> and <a href="http://gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-pro">Mate 60 Pro</a> bring a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/09/06/huawei-mate-60-pro-kirin-9000s-chip-explained/">5G Kirin 9000s chipset </a>that seems to be manufactured by SMIC on its 7nm process node. While this is excellent news for consumers, competitors like Qualcomm may not be as thrilled. An analyst predicts that Huawei&#8217;s new chipset poses a great threat to Qualcomm&#8217;s dominance in the market.</p>

<p>Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, known for his Apple-related predictions, said “Qualcomm is the main loser from Huawei’s adoption of Kirin9000S and new Kirin chips”. This is because Huawei is a major customer of Qualcomm, and if Huawei starts using its own chips, it will no longer need to buy chips from Qualcomm. In 2022, Huawei bought 23-25 million mobile phone SoCs from the US tech giant, and in 2023, it bought 40-42 million, according to Kuo.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/HUAWEI-MATE-60-pro-1024x576.webp?x44794" alt="HUAWEI-MATE-60-pro" class="wp-image-564793" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/HUAWEI-MATE-60-pro-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/HUAWEI-MATE-60-pro-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/HUAWEI-MATE-60-pro-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/HUAWEI-MATE-60-pro-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/HUAWEI-MATE-60-pro-746x420.webp 746w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/HUAWEI-MATE-60-pro.webp 1068w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Huawei Mate 60 Pro </figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Kuo predicts that Qualcomm may not only experience a decline in shipments to Huawei but also face the risk of reduced shipments to non-Huawei Chinese brand clients due to the competition posed by Huawei. “Qualcomm’s SoC shipments to Chinese smartphone brands in 2024 are expected to be at least 50–60 million units lower than in 2023 due to Huawei’s adoption of the new Kirin processors and will continue to decline year by year,” Kuo wrote in his blog post on Medium.</p>

<p>This may force Qualcomm to “start a price war as early as 4Q23 to maintain market share in the Chinese market, which will be detrimental to profits,” said Kuo.</p>

<p>That’s not it, Kuo believes Qualcomm faces two other potential risks. First, the market share of the Exynos 2400 in Samsung mobile phones could be higher than expected. This would reduce Qualcomm&#8217;s sales to Samsung. Second, Apple is expected to start using its own modem chip in 2025. This would be a major blow to Qualcomm, as Apple is a major customer.</p>

<p>On August 29th, Huawei, seemingly out of nowhere, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/29/huawei-mate-60-pro-launched-in-china/">announced the Mate 60 Pr</a>o. The company did not hold any sort of launch event.</p>

<p>The device was simply listed on its official website and first-party online store, VMall. This is unlike Huawei, as the telecom giant is known for extravagant events, especially for its premium products.</p>

<p>It was even more shocking to learn that the device supports 5G connectivity. However, the company makes no mention of 5G support and the name of the chipset found inside the phone.</p>

<p>It has been a week since the phone became official, and Huawei has already <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/09/04/huawei-mate-60-pro-china-sales/">sold over a million units</a> of the Mate 60 Pro. The smartphone is expected to ship at least <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/09/05/huawei-mate-60-pro-5g-exceeds-expectations-shipments-to-surpass-12-million/">12 million units</a>.</p>

<p>Multiple videos and articles (including ours) regarding the product have emerged on the internet over the last few days. Based on the information available, we have compiled a single article that answers the key questions about the chip powering the Huawei Mate 60 Pro.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02" class="wp-image-562600" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO02.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h3><strong>Which chip powers the Huawei Mate 60 Pro?</strong></h3>

<p>The Huawei Mate 60 Pro houses a HiSilicon Kirin 9000s chip. It is Huawei&#8217;s first new mobile chipset in three years.</p>

<p>Most importantly, the SoC enables 5G connectivity. Thus, the Mate 60 Pro is also the first Huawei 5G phone in a long time since the limited-run Mate 40 series from late 2020.</p>

<h3><strong>Who manufactures the Huawei Mate 60 Pro’s HiSilicon Kirin 9000s chip?</strong></h3>

<p>Historically, TSMC manufactured HiSilicon chipsets for Huawei. However, due to US sanctions, the telecom giant could not continue its business with the world’s most advanced chip manufacturer.</p>

<p>As a result, China&#8217;s SMIC produces the new Kirin 9000s SoC. As per findings by <a href="https://www.techinsights.com/blog/techinsights-finds-smic-7nm-n2-huawei-mate-60-pro"><em>TechInsights</em></a>, the chipset is fabricated on SMIC’s 7nm (N+2) process.</p>

<p>The Kirin 9000s measures 107 mm², which makes it 2% larger than the 5nm-based TSMC-manufactured Kirin 9000 chip (105 mm²).&nbsp; Interestingly, the latest chipset even has larger critical dimensions (CDs) than its predecessor, despite being based on a less advanced fabrication process.</p>

<p>This is a significant accomplishment for a Chinese chip manufacturer. But for some reason, SMIC has not published papers on its latest innovation in the public space.</p>

<h3><strong>What is the architecture of the Huawei Mate 60 Pro’s HiSilicon Kirin 9000s chip?</strong></h3>

<p>Like every other mobile chip on the market, the HiSilicon Kirin 9000s is ARM-based. But instead of completely relying on the off-the-shelf default ARM cores, Huawei <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCRIFe0uaac">has opted</a> for custom cores like Samsung’s Mongoose.</p>

<p>The Kirin 9000s features an octa-core CPU. Some benchmarks by users / reviews revealed 12 cores since the CPU supports hyper-threading (up to 12 threads). This makes the Kirin 9000s the first ARM chip on the market to support CPU hyper-threading.</p>

<p>Out of the eight CPU cores, the prime core is the custom Taishan core, clocked at 2.62 GHz. Further, the median cores are again a cluster of three custom Taishan cores clocked at 2.15 GHz. Finally, the efficiency cores are a cluster of four stock ARM Cortex-A510 cores.</p>

<p>The graphics are handled by the Maliang 910 GPU, clocked at 750 MHz. The SoC also comprises newer versions of the DaVinci NPU, ISP, and Baron modem.</p>

<h3><strong>How powerful is the Huawei Mate 60 Pro’s HiSilicon Kirin 9000s chip?</strong></h3>

<p>Based on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/30/huawei-mate-60-pros-5g-antutu-listing-reveals-kirin-9000s-5g-chip-configuration-performance-score-revealed/">benchmark tests</a> (AnTuTu and Geekbench), the HiSilicon Kirin 9000s chipset falls behind the current-gen Android champion, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.</p>

<p>The SoC is capable of scoring around 7,00,000 points on AnTuTu. Whereas on Geekbench, it can attain about 1,300 and 3,300 points in single-core and multi-core tests, respectively.</p>

<p>These scores put the performance of Kirin 9000s in the ballpark of the Snapdragon 888. In other words, the chip is two generations behind in the Android space.</p>

<h3><strong>Does the Huawei Mate 60 Pro’s HiSilicon Kirin 9000s chip support 5G?</strong></h3>

<p>As mentioned at the beginning, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro is the first Huawei 5G smartphone in nearly three years. HiSilicom Kirin 9000s&#8217; newly developed Baron modem enables support for fifth-generation mobile communication technology on the phone.</p>

<p>Unfortunately, not much is known about this mysterious modem. Anyway, in addition to 5G, the device also supports <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/21/what-is-satellite-connectivity-smartphones-how-does-it-work/">satellite connectivity</a>.</p>

<p>In fact, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro is the world’s first commercial smartphone to support satellite calling. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/09/06/huawei-mate-50-launch-china-4g-snapdragon-8gen1/">Mate 50 Pro was limited to texts</a>, like the iPhone 14 lineup.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei </a>launched its flagship <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/29/huawei-mate-60-pro-launched-in-china/">Mate 60 series of smartphones</a> in August. Now a new report has revealed some interesting details regarding the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 60 Pro</a>&#8216;s 5G SoC, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/kirin-9000s/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kirin 9000S</a>. So let&#8217;s take a look.</p>

<h2>Huawei Mate 60 Pro features one of China&#8217;s most advanced chips</h2>

<p>According to a new report from <em><a href="https://www.techinsights.com/blog/techinsights-finds-smic-7nm-n2-huawei-mate-60-pro" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">TechInsights</a></em>, the Chinese tech giant&#8217;s Mate 60 Pro features a chip designed by SMIC. For those unaware, SMIC is a major semiconductor manufacturer in China, which marks a major shift away from Huawei&#8217;s previous supplier, TSMC. Huawei was cut off from its primary chip supplier and lost access to advanced chip production for its proprietary HiSilicon Kirin series of mobile processors. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-1024x576.webp?x44794" alt="Huawei_Mate_60_Pro" class="wp-image-563937" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-1068x601.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-747x420.webp 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro.webp 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>But now, Huawei smartphones supports 5G connectivity again and will feature China&#8217;s most advanced mobile processor. TechInsights adds that the Huawei Mate 60 Pro in their lab features the latest generation process called N+2 7nm, which marks a major upgrade in Chinese semiconductor manufacturing. The Kirin 9000S has a slightly larger die size (107 mm²) compared to the older Kirin 9000 (105 mm²).</p>

<p>The Huawei Mate 60 Pro features the advanced 7nm-based chipset that is more advanced than SMIC&#8217;s 14nm process node. Furthermore, it features a larger critical dimension than the ones on the 5nm process. SMIC&#8217;s N+2 7nm process will also offer improved scalability and yield, which were major challenges the last time. </p>

<p>Due to US sanctions, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a> has not been launching 5G-enabled smartphones in the Chinese market, while its competitors had been offering 5G phones across different price points. However, Huawei surprised the tech world by announcing the 5G-enabled <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60/">Mate 60</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-pro">Mate 60 Pro</a> in the Chinese market last week. According to well-known market analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the demand for these devices has been nothing short of phenomenal.</p>

<h3><strong>Huawei Mate 60 Pro 5G demands soar</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image is-style-default"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-1024x576.webp?x44794" alt="Huawei_Mate_60_Pro" class="wp-image-563937" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-1068x601.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro-747x420.webp 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Huawei_Mate_60_Pro.webp 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Huawei Mate 60 Pro</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>In fact, the demand for the Mate 60 Pro has been so strong that Huawei&#8217;s shipment plan for the second half of 2023 has seen a whopping 20 percent increase, reaching an impressive 5.5-6 million units. A recent report revealed that the brand <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/09/04/huawei-mate-60-pro-china-sales/">sold nearly 1 million units of the Mate 60 Pro</a> through pre-orders in just 5 days in China.</p>

<p>To put things into perspective, let&#8217;s look at how the Mate 60 Pro stacks up against its predecessors. The Mate 50 Pro 4G, which debuted in September 2022, saw cumulative shipments of about 2.5 million units after 12 months. The Mate 40 Pro 5G, which launched in October 2020, reached approximately 6 million units in the same timeframe. Based on this remarkable trend, Kuo is of the view that the cumulative shipments of the Mate 60 Pro 5G will surpass 12 million units within the first year after its launch.</p>

<p>But that&#8217;s not all. Huawei&#8217;s smartphone shipments are projected to increase by a remarkable 65 percent year-on-year, reaching a total of 38 million units in 2023. This growth can be attributed to the strong demand and market influence of the Mate 60 series.</p>

<p>According to Kuo, Huawei&#8217;s smartphone shipments are expected to reach a staggering 60 million units in 2024. Hence, it is expected to be the smartphone brand with the strongest growth in shipments worldwide.</p>

<p>The success of the Mate 60 Pro has also put Huawei&#8217;s supply chain companies in the spotlight of stock markets, claims Kuo. Its supply chain includes Chinese self-reliant semiconductor companies, other firms that supply semiconductors to Huawei but are not listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) or Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE), HWA Create, which provides satellite communication chips to Huawei, and companies in the optics sector like Largan Optical, Sunny Optical, Will Semi, Smartsens, and Billu.</p>

<p>While the Mate 60 5G and Mate 60 Pro 5G have undoubtedly made a significant impact, it&#8217;s important to note that these impressive devices are currently limited to the Chinese market. Looking ahead to 2024, Huawei is poised to continue its resurgence in the smartphone industry. In 2024, the company is expected to launch more 5G phones in the Chinese market and expand to other markets around the world.</p>

<p><a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei </a>raised eyebrows when it launched the Mate 60 Pro with a Kirin chip. The Kirin 9000s inside the smartphone is said to have been manufactured by China-based SMIC using its second-generation 7nm-class fabrication process and stacking. Word on the grapevine suggests that the chip may be powering not only the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-pro">Mate 60 Pro</a> but also the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60">Mate 60</a>.</p>

<p>An X user has shared live images of the Mate 60’s device information page. The page reveals the specifications of the smartphone, confirming the Kirin 9000s chip. While Huawei has been mum about the details of the chipset,<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/30/huawei-mate-60-pros-5g-antutu-listing-reveals-kirin-9000s-5g-chip-configuration-performance-score-revealed/"> </a>the immages shared by the user reveals it has a 8-core configuration with a 4+4 architecture. The frequency range of the cores is 418Mhz &#8211; 2150MHz, with the Maleoon 910 GPU clocked at between 308Mhz to 750Mhz. </p>

<p>All the details about the chipset are unofficial, with reports suggesting it packs a CPU and GPU featuring microarchitectures developed in-house. Considering the Mate 60 Pro is the top-notch flagship from the brand, offering satellite calling and other features, the benchmarking scores of the chip might not be very convincing.</p>

<p>The Kirin 9000s scored a total of 699,783 <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/30/huawei-mate-60-pros-5g-antutu-listing-reveals-kirin-9000s-5g-chip-configuration-performance-score-revealed/">on AnTuTu</a>, which is not very impressive when compared to Qualcomm flagships that often score well above 1 million points. However, it&#8217;s better to take this score with a pinch of salt, considering the secrecy surrounding the chipset.</p>

<p>Elsewhere, the Huawei Mate 60 <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/30/huawei-mate-60-launched-with-6-69-inch-oled-120hz-display-50mp-triple-cameras-66w-charging/">brings</a> a flat OLED panel with a Full HD+ resolution of 2688 x 1216 pixels, a 120Hz refresh rate, 10-bit colors, and 1440Hz PWM dimming. It has a 50MP main camera with support for OIS and is paired with a 12MP ultra-wide lens and a 12MP periscope telephoto camera. The phone packs a 4,750mAh battery that supports 66W wired charging.</p>

<p>Huawei &#8211; China&#8217;s leading electronics maker <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/29/huawei-mate-60-pro-launched-in-china/">silently launched</a> its flagship device &#8211; Mate 60 Pro in China a couple of days ago. Initially, it felt Huawei missed the Chipset details, but it seems the company deliberately omitted these details in the official spec sheet. Huawei even declined to comment on the details after users and the tech community asked on social media. However, the details on a launched smartphone can never remain under wraps for so long as there are multiple apps that enable users to get full hardware details of the smartphone. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="948" height="533" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/hauwei-mate-60.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-563338" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/hauwei-mate-60.jpg 948w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/hauwei-mate-60-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/hauwei-mate-60-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/hauwei-mate-60-696x391.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/hauwei-mate-60-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 948px) 100vw, 948px" /></figure></div>

<p><strong><em>Must See: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/30/huawei-mate60-pro-unboxing-hands-on-kirin-9000s-chipset-for-5g-satellite-callings/">Huawei Mate 60 Pro Unboxing &amp; Hands-on: Kirin 9000s Chipset For 5G &amp; Satellite Callings?!</a></em></strong></p>

<p>A similar approach is used by the tech community to know the full specifications of the Huawei Mate 60 Pro, especially the SoC details. So, based on the benchmarking tests that users or members of the tech community performed, the Huawei Mate 60 is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/30/huawei-mate60-pro-unboxing-hands-on-kirin-9000s-chipset-for-5g-satellite-callings/">powered with Kirin 9000s SoC </a>which is built by HiSilicon &#8211; Huawei&#8217;s own chip design company. The CPU bundles a 12-core design including 2x A34 cores, 6x customized A78AE cores, and 4x A510 cores. </p>

<h2><strong>Kirin 9000s Specs (By Consumers)</strong></h2>

<p>The highest clock speed reaches 2.62GHz, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/30/huawei-mate-60-pros-5g-antutu-listing-reveals-kirin-9000s-5g-chip-configuration-performance-score-revealed/">according to AnTuTu</a>. Further, it houses a Maleoon-910 GPU. As per benchmarks, the CPU scored 279,677, 225,491, and 194,615 points in CPU, Memory, and UX tests, respectively. The same chip attained a 1225 single-core score and 3295 points with the multi-core test. </p>

<p>These details are pulled by consumers, while HiSilicon&#8217;s official website did not publish any details about the Kirin 9000s. However, Huawei&#8217;s Chip maker designed a couple of 5G chipsets earlier including the Kirin 9000 and Kirin 9000e which were built on 5nm. </p>

<p>In a statement, Huawei didn&#8217;t name the new chipset, instead, they covered it as the &#8220;most powerful Mate model ever&#8221;. </p>

<h2><strong>What&#8217;s Odd?</strong></h2>

<p>Such silence from Huawei on the new chipset seems a bit odd and secretive. The situation raises several questions about Why there&#8217;s no reference to the SoC, and What company is cooking behind the scenes? Is it getting really difficult for Huawei to revive its smartphone business <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/17/usa-regulation-huawei-ban-affects-japanese-companies/">amid sanctions by the</a> US. </p>

<p>Huawei went into trouble in 2019, when the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/05/16/us-announces-new-rule-that-could-cut-huawei-off-from-global-chip-suppliers/">US pressed sanctions on China</a>, and further<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/01/24/huawei-to-soon-face-stricter-restrictions-from-the-us-government/"> tightened the restrictions</a> in 2020 impacted the Chinese electronics maker a lot. The advanced ICs built by Samsung Electronics and TSMC are not in the scope of Huawei. The only company that Huawei can rely on is Semiconduction Manufacturing International Corp (SMIC) but they have the capability to<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/01/13/huawei-reportedly-placed-order-for-smic-14nm-manufacturing/"> produce 14nm chips,</a> and it is quite difficult for them to import advanced chip-making equipment to China due to sanctions. </p>

<p>There is a possibility, that somehow SMIC made these chips, which led Huawei to embed Kirin 9000s on the Huawei Mate 60 Pro. Or is there something that we are missing? Is there any secret that Huawei is trying to hide from the users? </p>

<h2><strong>Huawei&#8217;s Gain</strong></h2>

<p>Well, whatever the reason is, the stocks of all the supplier companies that supplied parts for Huawei Mate 60 Pro are rallying. The SMIC shares improved by 1 percent and is currently selling at HK$19.22. Similarly, the IC testing and packaging firm Jiangsu Changjiang Electronics Tech gained from the Huawei Mate 60 Pro launch. Other suppliers like Japanese Murata US-based Global Foundries and several other companies are gaining momentum in the stock markets. </p>

<p>Such a positive development from Huawei has even boosted the market. However, it may face some supply issues for its (unclaimed) new SoC in the future as per industry specialists. </p>

<p>Huawei Mate 60 Pro&#8217;s early release will help the company better measure people&#8217;s reaction towards the smartphone. Additionally, the Huawei Mate 50 was launched on September 12, just after Apple&#8217;s iPhone launch, and the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/07/huawei-mate40-last-flagship-kirin-chipset/">Mate 40 series in October</a>. At that time, Hauwei managed to surpass Samsung&#8217;s smartphone shipments in the global market. But, due to sanctions, Huawei lost all its consumers to other 5G smartphone brands. </p>

<p></p>

<h2><strong>Huawei Mate 60 Specifications</strong></h2>

<p>Huawei Mate 60 Pro made its<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/29/huawei-mate-60-pro-launched-in-china/"> official debut </a>a couple of days ago. It is the maiden Huawei smartphone with a satellite Calling facility. The smartphone houses a 6.82-inch AMOLED display featuring an adaptive refresh rate of 1Hz-120Hz and a 300 Hz sampling rate. The display offers a Full HD+ resolution of 1260x 2720 pixels and 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming. It is protected with Huawei&#8217;s 2nd-generation Kunlun Glass. </p>

<p>The smartphone launched with 12GB RAM and up to 1TB storage options. </p>

<p>In the camera department, there&#8217;s a triple rear camera module having a 50MP sensor with OIS support, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 48MP telephoto with OIS having 2.5x zoom. Further, there&#8217;s a 13MP ultrawide angle lens on the front with a 3D ToF sensor. </p>

<p>The smartphone&#8217;s 5000 mAh battery supports 88W fast charging, 50W wireless charging, and 20W reverse wireless charging support.</p>

<p>The smartphone will not launch globally as per the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/30/huawei-mate-60-pro-will-not-launch-in-global-markets-official/">official statement </a>from Huawei. </p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a> Mate 60 series has been officially launched in China, with the Mate 60 and Mate 60 Pro being the two models that are currently available. The Pro model is notable for being the first Huawei phone to feature 5G connectivity since the US sanctions were imposed. It is also the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/29/huawei-mate-60-pro-launched-in-china/">first-ever phone to support satellite calling</a>. The pre-order listings for both phones on Huawei Mall include all their key specifications, but there is no information about the chipset. However, the Pro model has appeared on AnTuTu, revealing not only the chipset that it uses, but also its configuration.</p>

<h2><strong>Huawei Mate 60 Pro 5G AnTuTu, Geekbench listings</strong></h2>

<div class="wp-block-image is-style-default"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="585" height="1024" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-5G-585x1024.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate 60 Pro 5G AnTuTu listing" class="wp-image-562480" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-5G-585x1024.jpg 585w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-5G-171x300.jpg 171w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-5G-696x1219.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-5G-240x420.jpg 240w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Huawei-Mate-60-Pro-5G.jpg 700w" sizes="(max-width: 585px) 100vw, 585px" /><figcaption>Huawei Mate 60 Pro 5G AnTuTu listing</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>The AnTuTu benchmarks identify the Huawei Mate 60 Pro 5G&#8217;s chip as the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/kirin-9000s">Kirin 9000s</a>. The CPU details mentioned in the listing reveal that it has a 12-core configuration with a 2+6+4 architecture. It consists of two A34 cores, six customized A78AE cores, and four A510 cores. The highest clock speed reaches 2.62GHz.</p>

<p>As for the GPU, the AnTuTu listing mentions it as &#8220;Maleoon 910” but does not provide any details about its configuration. In the CPU, memory, and UX tests, the device scored 279,677, 225,491, and 194,615 points, respectively. It managed to achieve a total score of 699,783 on AnTuTu. However, it should be noted that the GPU scores are not mentioned in the AnTuTu listing.</p>

<p>It is important to note that there is a possibility that the manufacturer may have intentionally concealed certain details of the chip. Therefore, it is advisable to wait for official confirmation on the name and configuration of the chip that powers the Mate 60 series.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image is-style-default"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="642" height="511" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/huawei-mate-60-pro-Geekbench.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate 60 Pro Geekbench listing" class="wp-image-562479" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/huawei-mate-60-pro-Geekbench.jpg 642w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/huawei-mate-60-pro-Geekbench-300x239.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/huawei-mate-60-pro-Geekbench-528x420.jpg 528w" sizes="(max-width: 642px) 100vw, 642px" /><figcaption>Huawei Mate 60 Pro Geekbench listing</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>The same chip has also appeared on Geekbench. It scored 1225 and 3295 points in the single-core and multi-core tests of Geekbench 6, respectively. Therefore, in terms of performance, the Kirin 9000s appears to be on par with the Snapdragon 888. This means that the Mate 60 Pro&#8217;s performance is around two generations behind its competitors.</p>

<p>It is not yet clear which chipset powers <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/30/huawei-mate-60-launched-with-6-69-inch-oled-120hz-display-50mp-triple-cameras-66w-charging/">the Huawei Mate 60</a>. It appears that the device is powered by a 4G chipset.</p>

While the company has not yet confirmed the launch date, it will likely announce the phones next month.</p>
<p>Ahead of the official launch, several details regarding the Huawei Mate 50 series have already leaked online. In the latest development, it is said that the standard model will pack a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm">Qualcomm</a> Snapdragon chipset.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-473951 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Huawei-Mate-50-Series-Render-Leak.jpeg?x44794" alt="" width="1178" height="2048" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Huawei-Mate-50-Series-Render-Leak.jpeg 1178w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Huawei-Mate-50-Series-Render-Leak-173x300.jpeg 173w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Huawei-Mate-50-Series-Render-Leak-589x1024.jpeg 589w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Huawei-Mate-50-Series-Render-Leak-768x1335.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Huawei-Mate-50-Series-Render-Leak-884x1536.jpeg 884w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Huawei-Mate-50-Series-Render-Leak-696x1210.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Huawei-Mate-50-Series-Render-Leak-1068x1857.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Huawei-Mate-50-Series-Render-Leak-242x420.jpeg 242w" sizes="(max-width: 1178px) 100vw, 1178px" /></p>
<p>As <a href="https://news.mydrivers.com/1/852/852241.htm">per the report</a>, the Huawei Mate 50 will come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC with connectivity limited to 4G LTE. The other models in the lineup are said to be powered by the company&#8217;s own Kirin 9000S chipset.</p>
<p>The Huawei Kirin 9000S processor has not yet been announced by the company, but it is likely to be a tweaked version of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-kirin-9000">Kirin 9000 SoC</a> that has now become the last flagship chipset from the company because of the US-imposed sanctions.</p>
<p>Recently, there were rumors that the company is running out of stock of Kirin 9000 SoC and thus, the chipset won&#8217;t be used on all the smartphones in the lineup, and some models may end up using the Qualcomm chips.</p>
<p>As for the Huawei Mate 50, the phone is rumored to feature an <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oled">OLED display</a> sourced from BOE, offering a Full HD+ screen resolution and a 120hz refresh rate. It is expected to pack 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage.</p>
<p>In the camera department, the device could feature a triple-camera setup on the back consisting of a 50-megapixel primary sensor. It will be running the company&#8217;s own <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmonyos">HarmonyOS 3</a> operating system out-of-the-box.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-473058 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_001-4.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate 50 Concept Render" width="800" height="466" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_001-4.jpg 800w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_001-4-300x175.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_001-4-768x447.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_001-4-696x405.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_001-4-721x420.jpg 721w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></p>
<p>Now, the <a href="https://www.ithome.com/0/632/596.htm">latest report</a> indicates that the upcoming Huawei Mate 50 RS smartphone may not be powered by the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/kirin-9000">Kirin 9000 series</a> processor because the the company has almost run out of the Kirin chips.</p>
<p>There have been reports about the upcoming smartphone from the company to come powered by the Kirin 9000S processor. It is not yet known which processor will power the smartphone if not the company&#8217;s own Kirin lineup chip.</p>
<p>The Honor 50 series smartphones are expected to come with new features for the camera department, along with support for Huawei Image XMAGE. The phones are expected to come with upgraded internals compared to their predecessor, but will still be 4G-only.</p>
<p>In line with other smartphones from Huawei, the Huawei Mate 50 series phones will come running the company&#8217;s own <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmonyos">HarmonyOS 3.0</a>, which is called HongMeng OS in China. This is because Huawei is still banned from using Google&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android">Android</a> operating system.</p>
<p>It is being said that the Huawei Mate 50 series smartphones may get launched in early September, most likely in the second week. The company will announce three models, dubbed as <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/07/29/huawei-mate-50-series-to-launch-in-september-renders-revealed/">Huawei Mate 50</a>, Mate 50 Pro, and Mate 50 RS.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-473058 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_001-4.jpg?x44794" alt="" width="800" height="466" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_001-4.jpg 800w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_001-4-300x175.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_001-4-768x447.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_001-4-696x405.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_001-4-721x420.jpg 721w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></p>
<p>According to tipster @<a href="https://m.weibo.cn/detail/4796281572820639" target="_blank" rel="noopener">厂长是关同学</a>, the Huawei Mate 50 series will debut in the month of September. The tipster Further adds that the series will consist of three devices &#8211; the Mate 50, the Mate 50 Pro, and the Mate 50 RS.</p>
<p>The devices will likely come powered by the company&#8217;s in-home Kirin 9000S chipset, which will likely be a tweaked version of the Kirin 9000 chip, and will come with 4G-only connectivity.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-473059 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_002-1.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate Mate 50 series" width="800" height="727" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_002-1.jpg 800w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_002-1-300x273.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_002-1-768x698.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_002-1-696x632.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_002-1-462x420.jpg 462w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></p>
<p>Relatedly, reliable Chinese tipster <i>Digital Chat Station </i>has shared renders of the back panel of the upcoming Mate 50 and Mate 50 Pro. From the image, we can see that the device will come with a curved back panel and curved edges. The circular camera module appears to house three camera lenses and two flash modules along with a sensor.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-473060 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_003.jpg?x44794" alt="" width="800" height="568" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_003.jpg 800w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_003-300x213.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_003-768x545.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_003-696x494.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_003-592x420.jpg 592w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/gsmarena_003-100x70.jpg 100w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></p>
<p>Moving on to the front of the device, <a href="https://m.weibo.cn/detail/4795043766338377" target="_blank" rel="noopener">leaked images</a> of the tempered glass of the Mate 50 series reveals that the vanilla variant will have a punch-hole cutout in the center, while the Mate 50 Pro and likely Mate 50 RS will come with an iPhone like cutout, which indicates that it will likely come with face ID unlock feature.</p>
<p>The smartphone will make its debut in China in September and is also expected to launch globally. Although it is not confirmed if the global variant of the device will also use the Kirin 9000 SoC or opt for Snapdragon 888 4G.</p>
