This Monday, KT Corp. the second largest carrier in South Korea started the sale of Xiaomi smartphones. However, in just a matter of two days, the carrier has reportedly stopped the sale.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/kt-corp.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-69378" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/kt-corp.jpg?x44794" alt="kt-corp" width="728" height="257" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/kt-corp.jpg 728w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/kt-corp-300x106.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/kt-corp-600x212.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/kt-corp-640x226.jpg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/kt-corp-681x240.jpg 681w" sizes="(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px" /></a></p>
<p>This was the first time a carrier started selling Xiaomi smartphones in the country. The sale was carried out by KT Corp. in partnership with Interpark Corp., an online website in the country. Although it&#8217;s unclear what&#8217;s the exact reason for the suspension of sales, uncited sources claim it was due to some &#8220;legal matters related to sales&#8221;.<a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/xiaomi-logo.jpg?x44794"><br />
</a></p>
<p>Although the majority of smartphone sales in the country is dominated by the two domestic players, Samsung and LG, Chinese companies like Huawei have become quite popular.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-65615" src="http://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/xiaomi-logo.jpg?x44794" alt="xiaomi-logo" width="720" height="383" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/xiaomi-logo.jpg 720w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/xiaomi-logo-300x160.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/xiaomi-logo-600x319.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/xiaomi-logo-640x340.jpg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/xiaomi-logo-681x362.jpg 681w" sizes="(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px" /></p>
<p>This is not the first time we are hearing Xiaomi&#8217;s smartphone sales being suspended outside of China. Last year, Xiaomi was barred from selling any smartphones in India for a small period. The Chinese company reportedly infringed on Ericsson&#8217;s patents. But the company was soon allowed to sell Qualcomm&#8217;s Snapdragon-based smartphones in the country.</p>
<p>As Xiaomi eyes further expansion, it will have to overcome such obstacles for smooth operation.</p>
