For those unaware, the Chinese brand is gearing up to launch the Legion Y90 for a while now. It was initially believed that the company would launch this gaming smartphone last month in January, but just recently, Lenovo announced the February 28 release date for the Legion Y90 and Y700 tablet; and in the latest teaser, the company shared a new video in which it showcased some of its key specifications, which revealed that it even features SSD (Solid State Drive) storage as well.

The video showcases the design of the smartphone and also highlights the internal specs. This includes the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC paired with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. However, the UFS 3.1 storage wasn’t alone, as we can also observe an SSD storage as well. The video was shared on Weibo (a Chinese microblogging website) with a caption that said that the device features “UFS+SSD” in a RAID 0 storage. Through this, the Y90 will see a boost of 50 percent in terms of memory write speeds.

Talking about the device’s other features, it will sport a 6.92 inch Samsung E4 AMOLED display with a 2460 x 1080 pixels resolution. Since it is a gaming handset, the display will offer 144Hz refresh rate and a 720Hz touch sampling rate. It has a unique design with the iconic RGB “Y” branding on the rear, which is also where the middle camera module and fan is housed for cooling. It seems that the Legion Y90 may launch after the ongoing Chinese New Year holidays since it has just bagged approval from the country’s TENAA telecom authority.

Lenovo Legion Y90 specifications (rumored)

The Legion Y90 gaming smartphone has appeared with its L71061 model number in TENAA’s database. The listing states that the gaming phone features a 6.9-inch screen that offers an FHD+ resolution of 1080 x 2460 pixels and an in-screen fingerprint scanner.

The camera details are incorrectly mentioned in the listing. Previous reports have revealed that there will be a 64-megapixel (main) + 16-megapixel (ultrawide) dual-camera setup on the backside of the Legion Y90. For selfies, it will feature a 44-megapixel camera on the bezel above the display.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 octa-core chipset is present under the hood of the Legion Y90. The TENAA listing states that China will be receiving the Y90 in 8 GB / 10 GB / 12 GB / 16 GB RAM variants and 128 GB / 256 GB / 512 GB of storage. The Y90 is expected to come with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. It is likely to come preloaded with Android 12 OS.

The Legion Y90 is backed by a 5,600mAh (typical value) dual-cell battery. However, only the rated value of one of the cells as 2,650mAh is mentioned in the TENAA listing. The company is gearing up for a new mobile gaming shoulder buttons, which is set to be released alongside the Legion Y90.

For those unaware, the Legion Y90 is an upcoming gaming smartphone. With shooter titles like Peace Elite and PUBG Mobile being popular in the market, shoulder buttons have become the norm in the mobile gaming industry. The shoulder buttons have service life of 3 million clicks and use a metallic design. The Chinese smartphone maker built the shoulder buttons to mimic the feel of a gaming mouse that is popular in PC gaming.

With the Legion Y90 launch being just around the corner, the teaser suggests that it will support the Y90 and launch alongside it. Talking about the smartphone itself, it sports a 6.92 inch AMOLED E4 panel that offers a Full HD+ resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, and a 720Hz touch sampling rate. It is also expected to feature Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. A notable aspect of the device is an active air cooling fan, so its clear that the company’s placed a focus on gaming experience. So, it arrives as no surprise that the brand is also making gaming accessories for the device.

We had previously reported on some of its specs and features, but the latest teaser showcases the design of the smartphone.

The company shared the new teaser on its official Weibo account (a Chinese microblogging website), with the image poster showcasing the device’s rear panel. Looking at the image, we can see the silhouette of the handset from the rear, with the iconic “Y” Legion logo being illuminated via RGB lighting. Notably, this design looks quite similar to the Legion Phone 2 Pro, which also featured RGB lighting on the back.

Furthermore, the teaser poster also showcases a slight bump on the middle of the rear panel. This design was also seen in the Legion Phone 2 Pro, so we can expect a thinner upper and lower region with a bump in the middle segment, which will also house its Double Turbo Fan Supercharged Liquid Cooling System. This is an active cooling mechanism that features a physical fan that helps keep the temperature in check during intensive takes like mobile gaming.

Talking about the device, it is set to sport a 6.92 inch Samsung E4 AMOLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate and HDR support as well. Under the hood, the Legion Y90 is rumored to come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 flagship SoC that will be paired with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.
Design

Since the upcoming Legion Y90 is a gaming smartphone, the Chinese smartphone maker has placed an emphasis on its design, especially in regards to its thermal management system. The company has previously teased its Double Engine Air Cooling technology, which it claims will help keep the device’s temperature in check despite playing intensive multiplayer games at high framerates. While the device looks like any other modern smartphone from the front, the rear panel would likely feature a gaming aesthetic with the “Legion” branding and physical fans as well, for its air cooling mechanism.

Specifications & Display

Under the hood, the device is expected to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, which will be paired with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. Arriving at its display, Lenovo has officially revealed that the Legion Y90 will feature a large AMOLED display that measures 6.92 inches. The panel is a Samsung E4 AMOLED screen that supports a 144Hz refresh rate and a 720Hz touch sampling rate. One of its highlighting features will be the anti blue display and HDR support. The screen will have an anti blue light eye protection certification ensuring that it lowers the blue light getting emitted from the screen.

Now, the company has returned, this time to show off the phone’s stunning screen.

According to the poster, the Lenovo Legion Y90 will feature a large AMOLED display. It will be a 6.92-inch E4 AMOLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate and a 720Hz touch sampling rate. One of its major display features will be the anti-blue display. The screen will have an anti-blue light eye protection certification ensuring that it lowers the blue light getting emitted from the screen.

Furthermore, the poster confirms that the gaming smartphone will have a Double Engine Air Cooling technology. It means that the phone will have its own cooling fans. It could be similar to the Double Turbo Fan Supercharged Liquid Cooling System seen in the Legion Phone 2 Pro.

Apart from this, the smartphone is rumoured to come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 flagship SoC that will be paired with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. As said earlier, the Lenovo Notebook product manager, Lin Lin revealed that even after playing games at 122fps for 20 minutes, the phone managed to keep its cool. The device stayed at 38.9 degrees, showcasing its Double Engine Air cooling feature’s ability.

The folks at Lenovo also played the Honor of Kings title for 30 minutes of lower 90Hz. Still, the device was at 38-degree celsius.

Other than this, the company recently teased a Legion-branded gaming tablet. The device will be called the Lenovo Legion Y700 and it is expected to come with an 8.8-inch display with a 2560 x 1600 pixels resolution. Since it’s a Legion-branded device, it will have a high 120Hz gaming-ready screen. Just like the Legion Y90, the Y700 gaming tablet will be powered by the Snapdragon 888 SoC.
