We are no longer in doubt as to whether the company is actually working on one, considering that is the growing trend in the industry. The company has also showcased its foldable device concept consecutively at <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/07/24/lenovo-folio-foldable-concept-showcased-tech-world-2017/">Tech World 2016 and 2017</a>. A recent patent filing has now given us an idea of the design the company is planning to use.<img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-243836" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/lenovo-patent.jpg?x44794" alt="Lenovo foldable patent" width="696" height="381" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/lenovo-patent.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/lenovo-patent-300x164.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></p>
<p>The patent was submitted at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in September 2018 and is presently listed on the outfit&#8217;s website. The sketches describing the product bears some similarities to those of the Microsoft Surface Book which had a hinge design. It uses an inward folding design just like the Galaxy Fold and has two hinges connecting the two displays.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-243837" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/lenovo-patent-2.jpg?x44794" alt="Lenovo" width="497" height="204" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/lenovo-patent-2.jpg 497w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/lenovo-patent-2-300x123.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 497px) 100vw, 497px" /></p>

<p>The hinge design throws up the possibility that the patent isn&#8217;t likely for a smartphone but a tablet. This is because including two hinges on a phone may make it look bulky. The design may be for a laptop, though, since that is the company&#8217;s major division presently. It is also possible the company has perfected a design style that would keep the device as thin as possible even when folded.</p>
