Lenovo is gearing up to launch the Xiaoxin Pro AI Ultrabook 2024, and it promises to be a powerhouse of performance. We heard about some key specifications of this device earlier last week, including the use of new Core Ultra CPUs. Another key feature confirmed today is the introduction of the improved “Fengshen Cooling System.”

A standout feature of the device is its ability to achieve a noise level as low as 17dBA. Although it was recorded at the minimum fan speed in energy-saving mode.

Lenovo introduces the Xiaoxin Pro AI Ultrabook 2024 as the first batch featuring the new Intel Core Ultra processors. Positioned to challenge the Core Ultra thin and light platform, this laptop boasts unparalleled performance, scalability, and battery life. Users can opt for a 32GB of memory, coupled with a 1TB SSD. Additionally, the notebook offers a reserved M.2 2280 slot, providing the potential for an expansive 5TB capacity.

Lenovo addresses the need for extended usage with an upgraded battery capacity of 84Wh, a significant boost from its predecessor’s 75Wh. It results in a local playback time of up to 23.2 hours and a regular usage simulation reaching 10.3 hours. Lenovo issues Security Alert relating to 70 laptop models that are Vulnerable

Lenovo has revealed that more than 70 of its laptop models are vulnerable to a UEFI/BIOS bug that could result in arbitrary code execution in a security alert.

Three buffer overflow vulnerabilities were found by researchers at the cybersecurity company ESET.

According to ESET’s tweet, the flaws can be used to execute arbitrary code during the platform boot process, giving attackers the potential to control the OS execution flow and disable key crucial security mechanisms.

“Insufficient validation of the DataSize parameter given to the UEFI Runtime Services method GetVariable was the root cause of these vulnerabilities. A particularly constructed NVRAM variable might be created by an attacker, leading to a buffer overflow of the Data buffer in the second GetVariable call,” it continued.

Retbleed is a new speculative execution exploit affecting devices with Intel and AMD CPUs, and Lenovo has also warned users about it.

A couple of vulnerabilities affecting numerous products that use the XClarity Controller server management engine have also been addressed in an advisory from the company. These bugs could give authorized users the ability to disrupt services or establish unauthorized connections to internal ones.

Firmware flaws are a typical occurrence. Researchers have found vulnerabilities in third-party components used by numerous manufacturers, even though some of them are particular to the products of a single vendor.

For instance, the InsydeH2O UEFI firmware code is utilized by more than 25 vendors, such as HP, Lenovo, Fujitsu, Microsoft, Intel, Dell, Bull, and Siemens, and has recently been shown to include over two dozen vulnerabilities.

It may take some time until the remedies are adopted by manufacturers and reach millions of end users, even though Insyde Software, the company that makes InsydeH2O, patched the vulnerabilities as soon as Binarly contacted them. Lenovo Xiaoxin Pro 14 2021 powered by both AMD and Intel SoCs launches on September 28

Lenovo Xiaoxin series laptops are going to see an upgrade later this month, starting with Lenovo Xiaoxin Pro 14 2021. The company has confirmed that the launch is set to take place on September 28 that will upgrade this machine’s performance. It has also been confirmed that the device will house the Intel i5-11320H processor and the GPU will be upscaled from the existing Iris Xe Graphics G7 80EU to 96EU, which turns out to be a 24% boost in terms of performance.

The older version of Lenovo Xiaoxin Pro 14 featured an i5-11300H processor with 4-core 8 threads, a maximum Turbo frequency of 4.4GHz, and Graphics Max Dynamic Frequency of 1.30 GHz.

The upgraded Core i5-11320H processor comes with some upgrades that set the maximum Turbo frequency to 4.5GHz, along with a Graphics Max Dynamic Frequency of 1.35GHz thereby increasing the device’s performance capabilities.

Not just performance, Lenovo also takes the viewing experience on Lenovo Xiaoxin Pro 14 2021 to an all-new level with a 14-inch 2.8k 16:10 screen, 400nit high brightness, a resolution of 2880×1800, on top of which is a refresh rate of 90Hz, and DC dimming. The screen also gets a TÜV Rheinland protection certificate, low Blu-ray Certification, and supports Dolby Vision. Overall, it will be a delight to use a laptop with such a quality display.

Lenovo Xiaoxin Pro 14 2021 will be available in two variants, one with an Intel processor and another one with an AMD Ryzen processor. More details to follow on September 28.

Lenovo leads the PC market with the highest shipments in Q2 2021: IDC

With the world being hit with the Coronavirus pandemic early last year, the shipments for PCs and related components had surged. This growth momentum has carried forward into 2021, with Lenovo leading the PC market in terms of shipments in the second quarter of this year.

According to an IDC report, worldwide shipments of PCs, including desktops, notebooks, and workstations, reached 83.6 million units in Q2 2021. This marks a notable 13.2 percent growth from the same period last year. The report adds that the elevated demand for PCs at the moment paired with the ongoing semiconductor shortage has also impacted the supply of notebooks. This, in turn, led to desktop PCs seeing a growth, which overtook laptops during this quarter.

Jitesh Ubrani, a researcher at IDC stated that “The PC market’s hot streak continued to drive heavy investments from the supply side including the entry of new vendors as well as additional spend from underdogs. And while the top 5 continue to drive volume, the smaller vendors have helped drive growth by offering unique features or niche designs.” While the market did see a 13 percent annual growth rate, it is still far lower than the 55.9 percent growth back in Q1 2021 and 25.8 percent growth in Q4 2020.

Another IDC researcher Neha Mahajan added that “The market faces mixed signals as far as demand is concerned. With businesses opening back up, demand potential in the commercial segment appears promising. However, there are also early indicators of consumer demand slowing down as people shift spending priorities after nearly a year of aggressive PC buying.”

During Q2 2021, Lenovo led the PC market with a 23.9 percent market share, marking a 14.9 percent growth over the same period last year. HP arrived second in the list with a 22.2 percent market share, while Dell came third with a 16.7 percent market share. On the other hand, Apple and Acer both came in fourth with a 7.4 percent and 7.3 percent market share respectively, while other vendors accounted for the rest of the figure.

Lenovo is currently testing an ‘Ultra Quiet Mode’ for its laptops

Lenovo is the largest PC maker in the world and it sells millions of laptops every year. The company has a wide range of premium as well as budget laptop options in the market. So it’s natural that the company tests out a number of new features to improve the experience of its users. One such feature, currently being tested, is the ‘Ultra Quiet Mode’.

According to a Chinese media website, Lenovo is testing a new ‘Ultra Quiet Mode’ on some of its notebooks in China. This particular feature can be turned on via the laptop’s BIOS setup. Once switched on, the CPU fan will enter a dynamic mode where it will automatically switch to the Ultra Quiet Mode when the laptop is not under stress. It will go back to the normal mode when the CPU needs cooling.

Some people are naturally more sensitive to a laptop fan’s whining noise. For them, this feature can be really useful. Unfortunately, we have no word on when this ‘Ultra Quiet Mode’ will be rolled out to Lenovo laptops in the market. Also, we don’t know whether this feature has any adverse effects on the laptop’s daily performance.
