After launching the ThinkPad X1 Fold in global markets, the company has now debuted the world’s first foldable PC in its home country China. It comes in two variants – WiFi and 5G. The former is priced at 21,999 yuan ($3,295), whereas the latter costs 23,999 yuan ($3,595). 

The Lenovo Fold Mini keyboard and Lenovo Mod Pen stylus accessories and included with both the models. The computer is already up for pre-order and will go on sale for the first time on October 28 (WiFi) and November 5 (5G) respectively.

As its name suggests, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold comes equipped with a 13.3-inch foldable OLED display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels (2K), 4:3 aspect ratio, 300 nits peak brightness, and support for stylus input despite being a foldable screen with CPI (Colorless Polyimide) cover.

It is powered by Intel Core i5-L16G7 processor clocked at 1.4GHz with a maximum turbo frequency of 3GHz and runs Microsoft Windows 10 Home. The chipset is further paired with 4,267MHz 8GB LDDR4 RAM and 512GB SSD. There is also a 256GB variant in WiFi-only configuration priced at 19,199 yuan ($2,876) but it will be available later.

On the connectivity front, the laptop features WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and a couple of USB Type-C ports. Lastly, it comes with a 5MP camera and gets its juice from a 50Whr battery with support for 65W fast charging.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold weighs 999g and measures 27.8×158.2x236mm when folded and 1.5×299.4x236mm in the unfolded position.

Lenovo has announced that it will release the long elusive ThinkPad X1 Fold on September 30. At CES 2019, Lenovo showcased what was claimed to be the “world’s first foldable PC.” The device showcased was merely a prototype but the Chinese giant is now set to release the product commercially, according to a teaser poster released recently.

Simply put, the ThinkPad X1 Fold is a full-featured notebook computer powered by an 11th-generation Core processor. The notebook packs a 13.3-inch touchscreen display with 2K resolution but it is only the size of a 16-open book.

The core secret of this design lies in Lenovo’s exclusive flexible technology, through which the screen foldable design is realized. The ThinkPad X1 Fold’s flexible OLED display screen is built by Lenovo and supplier LG in deep cooperation.

Lenovo and LG worked together to solve many technical problems in the four years it took to realise this technology. It deploys exclusive hinge technology and magnesium alloy-carbon fibre frame to realize a folding structure that is firm and flat after unfolding. The screen also feels like a traditional screen and meets durability test requirements.

We expect the pricing and availability details to be unveiled when it is officially released.
