During the Lenovo Tech World 2019 held on Friday last week in China, the Chinese tech giant Lenovo unveiled two innovative foldable devices that it hopes will revolutionize the tech space. The Moto Razr and Lenovo ThinkPad X1, a folding smartphone and laptop respectively.

The ThinkPad X1 notebook was first showcased at an annual sales event in May. The tech giant again unveiled the device during the event last week. This has afforded us an opportunity to see hands-on pictures of the device and even get some details of its design.

The Lenovo laptop comes with a foldable screen and is equipped with a 13.3-inch folding display which was confirmed to have been manufactured by China’s BOE Display, just like the Moto Razr’s. The laptop will surely sound the death knee to tablets when it goes official. Come on, who would want to move around with a tablet and laptop at the same time instead of having them both as a single device. The laptop can be switched to tablet, book or flip mode. In addition, the ThinkPad X1 can be used with a stand or a docking station for users who need a mouse and physical keyboard to operate.

We’ll still have to wait some more time to find out more details of the device but it is said to weigh around 900 grams while the display has a 2K resolution. We do note the thick bezels around the entire display and hope Lenovo can trim those further down. The display doesn’t seem to have any crease at the point where it bends, which is a good thing. However, it isn’t still a finished product and won’t be hitting shelves until next year.

Lenovo, today announced a refresh to its ThinkPad X1 series. The ThinkPad series is a line aimed at business professionals and the new series doesn’t fall short of that. The new line includes the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, the ThinkPad X1 Tablet, and the ThinkPad X1 Yoga.

ThinkPad X1 Carbon

The new ThinkPad X1 Carbon is the 5th generation notebook in the ThinkPad line. Now available in silver for the first time, the Carbon still maintains its light weight, coming in at just 1.14 kg. Although equipped with a 14-inch display, the X1 carbon has a 13-inch form factor. The small form doesn’t mean ports are sacrificed. There are USB 3.0 ports, Thunderbolt 3 ports, and a HDMI port too. The battery life has also been upgraded as it now offers up to 15.5 hours.

The Carbon also has enhanced biometric authentication and now boasts an IR camera with face recognition support. According to Lenovo, the Carbon is the first business-class notebook to support FIDO-enabled biometric authentication for PayPal. The feature allows you to authenticate your PayPal via fingerprint instead of a password.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon will launch in February with pricing starting at $1,349.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Tablet

The new ThinkPad X1 Tablet with its 2-in-1 design weighs less than 1kg and passes the MIL-SPEC durability test. You can attach a number of modules to increase productivity such as a projector module; a battery expansion module that offers up to 5-hours of extra battery life and also additional ports; or you can settle for a keyboard dock. There is also LTE-A for connectivity so that you can keep working when on the road.

The ThinkPd X1 Tablet will be available in March for $949.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga

The ThinkPad X1 Yoga is the last device in the new line-up. And just like the other Lenovo devices with the Yoga name, this unit also boasts that flexibility. The X1 Yoga has a 14-inch OLED display, Intel Iris Graphics, and an improved rechargeable ThinkPad Pen Pro. There is LTE-A like in the X1 tablet for connectivity and it has a new keyboard called the Wave Keyboard that is spill resistant and whose keys retract allowing the Yoga lie completely flat when in tablet mode.

Lenovo says just 1-hour of charge will get you 12-hours of battery life which is pretty impressive if you ask me. There is also a fingerprint scanner for logging in or you can use the advanced facial recognition system built-in.

The X1 Yoga will be available by March in black and silver with pricing starting at $949.
