The Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 will be held between Feb. 25 and Feb. 28 in Barcelona, Spain. Many smartphone manufacturers will be present at the tech expo to showcase their new devices. Lenovo that had remained inactive in the smartphone business got resurrected in the previous year. Today, Lenovo Group VP Chang Cheng has revealed through a Weibo post that Lenovo will be present at the MWC 2019 to announce the Lenovo Z6 Pro smartphone.

The launch poster of the Lenovo Z6 Pro does not include any details on its specifications. it only states that the phone will be shown at the MWC 2019 tech event. The ripples shown in the poster suggests that the Z6 Pro may arrive with support for in-display fingerprint reader like the predecessor Lenovo Z5 Pro that was made official in November 2018.

The Lenovo Z5 Pro had arrived with a notch-less display and a slider design. It was fueled by the Snapdragon 710 mobile platform. There is a possibility that the Z6 Pro could be equipped with the new Snapdragon 712 SoC. Probably, the Z6 Pro may continue to sport a slider design and a notch-less screen like the predecessor model.

Xiaomi will be launching the Xiaomi Mi 9 today as its first smartphone with Snapdragon 855 mobile platform. Even Samsung will be debuting the Snapdragon 855 powered Galaxy S10+, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10e flagship phones today. More phones with the same SoC may go official at the MWC 2019 in the coming week. However, Lenovo is already ahead of the competition in this aspect since it had launched the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT as the world’s first smartphone powered by Snapdragon 855 SoC in December 2018. It is also the first smartphone ever to feature 12 GB of RAM. Since last month, the smartphone is already available for purchase in China.

Last year, in November, Lenovo launched its Lenovo Z5 Pro smartphone in China. Now after around three months of its official launch, the smartphone is now finally available for purchase in China through open sale.

The company has announced that the Lenovo Z5 Pro will be available for purchase via open sale in China. The 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage model is priced at 1,998 Yuan (approximately $294) while the 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage model costs 2,298 Yuan (approximately $339).

The Lenovo Z5 Pro is a slider phone that measures 9.3mm in thickness and it weighs 210 grams. The back panel of the phone is made out of glass that is curved on all four sides. For the slider, the Chinese manufacturer has employed six double helix springs.

It features a 6.39-inch Super AMOLED display from Samsung. The notch-less display supports Full HD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and offers a screen-to-body ratio of 95.06 percent and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The HDR 10 compliant AMOLED display is also embedded with the fifth-generation photo-electric under-display fingerprint sensor.

Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm‘s upper mid-range Snapdragon 710 AIE chipset, coupled with 6GB RAM. There’s also an IntelliGo AI chip that is claimed to significantly reduce the noise during phone calls. As for the internal storage, it comes in two options — 64GB and 128GB. There’s no microSD card slot, thus the users won’t be able to expand the phone’s storage capacity.

Coming to the camera department, the smartphone comes with a dual front-facing camera, an infrared sensor, infrared light and proximity sensor. The front-facing camera setup comprises of an f/2.2 aperture 16-megapixel primary sensor and an 8-megapixel infrared camera. It supports AI-based capabilities for shooting beautified selfie images and it also carries support IR face recognition for accurately unlocking the phone in dim-light.

On the back side, there are a vertically arranged dual rear camera sensors, consisting of a 24-megapixel Sony IMX576 sensor and a 16-megapixel Sony IMX519 snappers, equipped with features like dual f/1.8 aperture lens, autofocus, dual-tone LED flash, 4K video shooting, 1080p video shooting at 120 fps, HDR, PDAF, AI scene recognition and super night scene mode.

Connectivity options on the device include dual-SIM support, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS and USB-C. It offers immersive audio experience, thanks to the Dolby Atmos support.

The smartphone comes pre-installed with ZUI 10 based on the Android Oreo operating system. There’s also AI game acceleration mode, that can throttle the CPU, GPU, and memory performance while playing games. The Lenovo Z5 Pro GT was a surprise announcement at the launch event of the Lenovo Z5s in December 2018. Unexpectedly, Lenovo unleashed the Z5 Pro GT as the world’s first smartphone with Snapdragon 855 mobile platform. Another first from the Z5 Pro GT is the inclusion of 12 GB of RAM on the device. The Lenovo Z5 Pro GT with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB has been benchmarked on AnTuTu.

As it can be seen in the below screenshot, the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT with 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage has scored 371,273 on AnTuTu benchmarks. Until the appearance of the Z5 Pro GT, most phones with either 7nm Kirin 980 chipset or the second-generation 10nm Snapdragon 845 chipset had recorded high scores of around 360k. Now that the Z5 Pro GT has score more than 370k, it is become the highest scoring smartphone on AnTuTu benchmarks.

Lenovo has launched the Lenovo Z5s smartphone today in China. At the launch event, the Chinese manufacturer also intoduced Snapdragon 855 edition of the Lenovo Z5 Pro (also known as Lenvo Z5 Pro GT). At the Lenovo Z5s launch event, the Chinese manufacturer revealed that that the SD855 powered Lenovo Z5 Pro is leading the AnTuTu benchmarks chart with a marvelous average benchmarking score of 368,480. As the below screenshot shows, the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT is placed at the top of the AnTuTu benchmarks list which mainly features Apple A12 driven iPhones, Snapdragon 845 chipset fueled Android phones and Huawei smartphones with Kirin 980 chipset.

Lenovo announced its most high-end handset in 2018, the Lenovo Z5 Pro, two weeks back in China. Not only does it come with razor-thin bezels and a slider design, but it is also the cheapest of all slider phones in the market coming in at just 1,998 Yuan (~$287). No wonder there was an overwhelming interest in the handset when reservations started and Lenovo recorded 500,000 registrations. The handset went on sale on November 15 for the second time and it quickly went out of stock just like the first sale. However, some potential buyers also found the handset being put on sale at Jingdong, Taobao, and even Weibo by purchasers at a higher price.

The VP of Lenovo, Chang Cheng, was quickly made aware of the situation and he has responded saying that Lenovo will be stepping up production to avoid similar incidents. The next round of sales on Jingdong Mall is displayed to be on November 22 10:00. The handset’s 6GB+64GB is priced 1998 yuan and the 6GB+128GB retails for 2298 yuan.

While Lenovo Z5 Pro and Xiaomi Pocophone F1 have customized UIs (ZUI an MIUI), Nokia 7.1 Plus is part of the Android One program with a stock UI and faster updates.

Camera

The camera department I like more is the one of Lenovo Z5 Pro with four cameras in total. But, at least on the paper, Nokia 7.1 Plus seems to have a better rear camera than Lenovo Z5 Pro, so consider this if you do not care so much about selfies. Xiaomi Pocophone F1 is the most disappointing one when it comes to cameras.

Battery

With the biggest battery boasting a capacity of 4000 mAh, Xiaomi Pocophone F1 surely has a much longer battery life than Lenovo Z5 Pro and Nokia 7.1 Plus. It is one of the longest lasting flagship phones and the battery is its main advantage alongside its processor.

Price

The device I would personally pick is Xiaomi Pocophone F1 with its €300/$342 global price (appr.), a wonderful hardware side, and a long-lasting battery. But if you care about having a good design and a great camera, then you should not grab a unit of this device and choose Nokia 7.1 Plus or Lenovo Z5 Pro instead, which carry a price tag of about €300/$342 and €250/$285 respectively (in China).

Lenovo is going to get some serious backlash for the Lenovo Z5 Pro scheduled to launch tomorrow. Not only is the phone not going to have four rear cameras, but benchmark results have revealed that it isn’t even powered by the Snapdragon 845 processor.

Yesterday, a Lenovo device with the model number L78031 was seen on Geeekbench and the benchmark result revealed that it is powered by a Snapdragon 710 processor. The model number is similar to that of the Lenovo Z5 (L78012) which leads us to believe the device is truly the Z5 Pro.

The same device has also been benchmarked on AnTuTu and it also confirms it has a Snapdragon 710 processor. The benchmark result also reveals the phone is running Android 8.1 Oreo, has an Adreno 616 GPU and a 2340 x 1080 display resolution. It has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and an AnTuTu score of 161428 points.

This means the Lenovo Z5 Pro will be the first upper mid-range phone with a slider design. Also, seeing as the phone isn’t a flagship, we expect it to cost less than the Mi MIX 3 and the Honor Magic 2.

We can’t say if the sample on the camera screen in the teaser is shot by the camera but it reveals clear details in low-light environment. The image isn’t likely a real sample, not minding the watermarks which suggest it was shot using the Z5 Pro.

Lenovo was thought to be planning to release the Z5 Pro with four cameras at the rear but it turns out the device will have two cameras at the rear and two selfie shooters, making up the quad camera. Call it another cunning, attention-grabbing marketing strategy from Lenovo if you like. Considering Lenovo’s recent antecedence, we’ll advise you don’t get your hopes too high but wait until November 1 to see what the company really has in store for us.

Recently, Lenovo has launched S5 Pro with mid-range specs.  Its camera will have an inbuilt AI features which will allow its shooter to recognise face, scene and will beautify your images.

Lenovo’s Chang Cheng has even shared a video of the device giving us a glimpse of its design. At the Lenovo Technology Innovation Conference Tech World 2018 in Beijing, China, company’s VP, Chang Cheng also confirmed about the Z5 Pro.

Unlike the Lenovo Z5 notched display, Z5 Pro will feature a full view display, thanks to its slider design. Similarly, Z5 has Snapdragon 636 on board, while Snapdragon 845 is expected to take place in Z5 Pro. Further, it will carry 8 GB RAM with a 6.5-inch display having a resolution of 2280 x 1440 pixels with 19:14 aspect ratio and a 4000 mAh battery. It was listed on Baidu with 6 GB and 8 GB RAM options and storage sizes like 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB. In camera, it will have a 20 megapixel + 16 megapixel of a dual shooter with enhanced software features.

Lenovo group vice president Chang Cheng said that the new device is much improved and even tiny details of the phone is now polished. Lenovo Z5 Pro will be a refined product from Lenovo with the ultimate use of technology. It is reported to be the first sliding design smartphone from Lenovo.

Lenovo Z5 Pro has been in the news after the company’s Vice President, Chang-Cheng exposed it at the Lenovo TechWorld Innovation Technology Conference. He touted to its 100% screen-to-body ratio with an on-screen fingerprint sensor. If the sliding design comes out to be true, then it would compete against the recently launched Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. Xiaomi’snew device, Mi Mix 3 also features the same sliding design with 93.7% of screen-body ratio.

As per other reports, Lenovo Z5 Pro will feature Snapdragon 845 processor with 8GB RAM. Lenovo will adopt the same policy of competitive prices to get huge sales. In an interview during the launch of Lenovo S5 pro, Chang Cheng confirmed that the Lenovo Z5 Pro would be priced lower than the Xiaomi or Honor devices.

Huawei set the record as the first manufacturer to launch a phone (P20 Pro) with triple rear cameras. Some manufacturers have followed suit such as Samsung with its Galaxy A7 (2018) while others are planning to set a new record by launching phones with more than three rear cameras. Nokia is one of the manufacturers in this latter group and will now be joined by Lenovo.

Earlier today, Lenovo’s own Vice President Chang Cheng shared a poster with a quad-camera setup on Weibo. The four cameras are housed in a square setup similar to that of the coming Huawei Mate 20 series. Sitting in the middle of the four camera sensors is a small LED flash.

The poster also mentions the phone will launch in October although the exact date isn’t mentioned. It also adds that the cameras will have AI features. Although we do not know the name of the device, we want to believe it is the Lenovo Z5 Pro slider phone.

The Lenovo Z5 Pro was officially teased by the VP a few weeks ago. It is expected to come with a bezel-less display like the OPPO Find X but will have a mechanical slider instead of a motor. So far, all the leaks of the device that have surfaced online have only shown the front of the phone and not its rear. This has led us to presume the Z5 Pro might be the phone with the quad-cameras.

Earlier this month, Lenovo Group VP Chang Cheng had shared a video of an upcoming slider phone. Rumors had claimed that the smartphone may go official as Lenovo Z5 Pro. During the two-day Lenovo event called Lenovo Technology Innovation Conference Tech World 2018 in Beijing, China, the company not only confirmed the name of its upcoming slider phone as Lenovo Z5 Pro, but also confirmed that it will be debuting in the next month.

At the aforementioned event, Lenovo Group President for China division Liu Jin and Lenovo Group VP Chang Cheng revealed the Lenovo Z5 Pro at the event. The Lenovo Z5 Pro will be an advanced edition of the Lenovo Z5 that was announced in June. The Z5 features a notched display, but the upcoming Z5 Pro features a bezel-less screen with manual slider design.

The images from the event reveals that the Lenovo Z5 Pro will impress its users with its amazing screen-to-body ratio. The smartphone is also equipped with an in-screen fingerprint scanner. The Lenovo Z5 has Snapdragon 636 chipset under its hood. Hence, it is very likely that the Z5 Pro that will debuting as Z5’s advanced version will be featuring powerful processor. Rumors suggest that it may feature Snapdragon 845 chipset.

The slider part of the Z5 Pro will be featuring all the necessary components such as selfie camera, an earpiece and other sensors. The frontside of the phone is mainly occupied by its display with very slim bezels surrounding it. Since the phone does not feature a notch and slimmer chin, the Z5 Pro is expected to offer a screen-to-body ratio of around 100 percent.

Since the Lenovo Z5 that was unveiled in June had arrived with mid-range specs, it is being speculated that the Lenovo Z5 Pro may carry flagship specs. Snapshots of online retailer listing of the Z5 Pro smartphone have surfaced on Baidu. The listing carries a render and key specs of the phone.

The render shown on the online listing of the Z5 Pro appears to be fan-made image. The image shows that the frontside of the phone is mainly occupied by the display with a very thin notch at the top. The color gradient back panel of the phone features a dual camera setup. The render does not resemble with the Z5 Pro that is expected to arrive with a manual slider design.

The specs mentioned on the online listing of the Z5 Pro reveals that it features a 6.5-inch display that offers Full HD+ resolution of 2280 x 1440 pixels and a weird aspect ratio of 19:14. It boasts a screen-to-body ratio of 95 percent.

The Snapdragon 845 chipset is present under the hood of the Z5 Pro. It is listed with 6 GB and 8 GB RAM options and storage sizes like 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB. The handset is packed with a 4,000mAh battery. For photography, the handset is equipped with 20-megapixel + 16-megapixel dual camera setup. It is speculated that the handset could be arriving with an in-display fingerprint reader.

Even though it was expected to sport a bezel-less full screen design with flagship specs, the handset debuted as a mid-range phone with notched display. Lenovo Group VP Chang Cheng had recently shared a short clip of an upcoming slider phone, but its name was not revealed. Fresh leaks reveal that the handset may get introduced as Lenovo Z5 Pro. A leaked video that has surfaced on Weibo shows the slider design of the Z5 Pro in action.

Earlier this week, a leaked video showing the manual slider mechanism of Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 flagship phone had appeared on Weibo. The below video reveals that like the Mi MIX 3, the Z5 Pro will be also equipped with a manual slider design. The handset can be seen sporting Lenovo’s UI which hints that it is not Mi MIX 3 phone.

There is no information available on the specifications of the Lenovo Z5 Pro. The slider design allows the Z5 Pro to sport a notch-less screen since the front-facing camera and other components are placed on the other part of the phone.

A touch on the display unlocks the phone which suggests that it will be arriving with an in-display fingerprint scanner. The Lenovo Z5 came with a Snapdragon 636 chipset, but the Z5 Pro may come equipped with a better SoC. Hence, it may feature Snapdragon 710 or Snapdragon 660 chipset.
