The phone which has model number L79041 is technically not a new 5G device but the Lenovo Z6 Pro 5G.

Lenovo has already begun registrations for the Z6 Pro 5G which is scheduled to go on sale on December 12. Prior to that, the phone has appeared on 3C and TENAA, causing folks to believe a new 5G phone is coming from the Chinese giant when it is actually just the already announced Z6 Pro 5G. We were able to confirm this with the TENAA listing which has the device’s spec sheet as well as the listing on Lenovo’s own website.

The TENAA listing includes images of the phone which of course shows the device’s similar design to the 4G version of the Z6 Pro. The spec sheet is missing a few key specs but the listing on Lenovo’s own site bares it all.

EDITOR’S PICK: OPPO Reno 3 Pro 5G has 4,025mAh battery, confirms OPPO VP

The Lenovo Z6 Pro 5G (Lenovo L79041) has a 6.39-inch FHD+ (1080 x 2340) OLED display with a waterdrop notch. The official listing says the screen is covered with Gorilla Glass but there is no mention of the type.

[envira-gallery id=”292568″]

There is a Snapdragon 855 processor under the hood along with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. However, TENAA’s listing says there will also be 6GB+128GB and 12GB+512GB versions too.

The phone has a 32MP f/2.0 selfie camera with a beauty mode and support for 1080p and 720p video recording. On the rear of the phone is a 48MP f/1.8 primary sensor and it is paired with a 16MP f/2.2 125° super-wide-angle camera, an 8MP f/2.4 telephoto, and a 2MP f/1.8 super video camera with OIS. The phone can record in 4K, has a night scene mode, macro mode, and pro mode.

The Lenovo Z6 Pro will pack a 4000mAh battery with support for 27W fast charging via USB Type-C. Sadly, there is no NFC neither is there an audio jack. You do get an in-display fingerprint scanner, Bluetooth 5.0 with support for AptX HD, LDAC, and TWS Protocol. The phone also has a new liquid cooling technology called Coldfront 2.0 and has support for Lenovo One.

Lenovo will ship the phone with ZUI 11 based on Android Pie but the site says it will get an Android 10 OTA. The images of the phone provided by TENAA and on Lenovo’s site are of a color variant called Navy Blue but TENAA says there will be silver and gold versions too.

The Lenovo Z6 Pro 5G has a price tag of ¥3299 (~$469). You can register here if you are interested.

At the moment, there are several smartphones with the support to 5th generation networks available at modest prices, at least in the Asian market. We are not talking about very affordable devices: they are still flagships, but they are affordable flagships. The latest ones are Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G, Lenovo Z6 Pro 5G, and Vivo iQOO Pro 5G. You can get all of them for less than €500 in China and they offer flagship-class performance for such a low price. But which one is the best and which has the highest value for money? Answering these questions is the reason why we decided to write this specs comparison.

Design

In my personal opinion, Lenovo Z6 Pro 5G has the most impressive design due to its amazing transparent back. But the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G comes with a better build quality since its frame is made of aluminum 7000 series and its glass back is protected by Gorilla Glass 6 that is the latest version of Corning’s protection. Vivo iQOO Pro 5G is a smartphone meant for gamers, but it does not have a so gaming-centric design, unlike other gaming phones. Lenovo Z6 Pro 5G is the lightest device, while Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G is slightly thinner and smaller. Yet I prefer the Lenovo Z6 Pro 5G for its transparent back, but that is only about personal tastes.

Display

Lenovo Z6 Pro 5G and Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G have a better display than Vivo iQOO Pro 5G since they offer a higher image quality. Both have a high DCI P3 coverage and they even support HDR10, while Vivo iQOO Pro 5G does not. The advantage of the iQOO Pro 5G is a slightly wider display diagonal which often makes gamers and productivity users happier. But image quality is definitely more important, given that we are talking about just 0.02 inches of difference. Between Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G and Lenovo Z6 Pro 5G, there are just marginal differences in the image quality.

Hardware/Software

Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G takes the gold medal in the hardware comparison since it sports the most powerful Qualcomm’s chipset, the highest amount of RAM and a higher amount of internal storage, at least in the most expensive configuration. Both Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G and Vivo iQOO Pro 5G are fueled by the Snapdragon 855+ chipset, but only the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G has internal storage up to 512 GB. Lenovo Z6 Pro 5G has up to 512 GB as well, but it packs the older Snapdragon 855 chipset, so it can not reach the performance of the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G. In each case, you get Android 9 Pie out of the box and a single-mode Snapdragon X50 5G modem, but only Lenovo Z6 Pro 5G has expandable storage.

Camera

The most performing device in terms of camera quality is the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G again. It packs a triple camera setup including laser autofocus, 2x optical zoom, and an ultrawide sensor. The Lenovo Z6 Pro 5G is a great camera phone too and it offers a better selfie camera. If you need a camera phone, do not choose the Vivo iQOO Pro 5G.

Battery

Vivo iQOO Pro 5G has the biggest battery and it lasts more on a single charge, which is very important for gamers since this is a gaming phone. But Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G is the only to support wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.

Price

Lenovo Z6 Pro 5G is currently on sale for €424/$471 making it the cheapest 5G phone in China, Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G’s price starts from €470/$520, and Vivo iQOO Pro 5G costs about €485/$538 in India. Overall, Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G is the most complete device due to the support to wireless charging and reverse wireless charging, better build quality, and better hardware. But Lenovo Z6 Pro 5G is currently the best buy due to its extremely affordable price.

But there are also other companies which are doing their best at delivering the latest technologies, despite a lot of people around the world ignore them. Lenovo, Nubia, and ZTE are among these ones as all of them released a flagship phone with the support to 5G connectivity. We are referring to Lenovo Z6 Pro 5G Edition, Nubia X 5G, and ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G. In each case, we are talking about 5G variants of existing flagships sold at very interesting prices. But are their 5G variants as interesting as other 5G handsets? And which one is the best? After reading this comparison, you will have an idea.

Design

Most of the Nubia X 5G body is covered by displays: the phone features two displays so it can use the rear cameras as front cameras too. That means the phone does not need a selfie snapper, neither a notch to house it. So its screen-to-body ratio is incredibly high and there are no holes on the display. That is why (alongside the secondary display) its design is the most amazing. On the other hand, ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G comes with the most interesting build quality as it is fully waterproof (up to 1.5 meters depth for 30 minutes) with the IP68 certification. Even Lenovo Z6 Pro 5G Edition has an awesome design, with a transparent back allowing to see its internal components, but I personally prefer the Nubia X form factor and its more compact body.

Display

When it comes to display quality, Lenovo Z6 Pro 5G Edition is the clear winner, at least on the paper. Thanks to the HDR10 standard and the high DCI-P3 coverage, it should provide the most accurate color reproduction. However, Nubia X 5G is much more interesting with its dual display. It has a classic 6.26-inch display on the front and a secondary 5.1-inch compact display on its back which you can use to save battery as it is smaller and the OLED technology consumes less energy.

Hardware/Software

These devices are all powered by the Snapdragon 855 chipset, so they offer amazing flagship-class performance, the best you can expect in 2019. Lenovo Z6 Pro 5G Edition wins the hardware comparison simply because it has the most powerful memory configuration: up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of internal storage. And you can even expand the internal storage up to 1 TB thanks to a micro SD slot. The phones run Android 9 Pie out of the box.

Camera

It will be hard to establish a winner of the camera comparison between ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G and Lenovo Z6 Pro 5G as their photo quality is very different depending on the scenarios, and both of them are able to shoot outstanding photos. I personally prefer the ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G because its main sensor has a brighter focal aperture and OIS, as well as 3x optical zoom. These are very important features to get good photos. Nubia X 5G wins the selfie comparison as it is able to use its rear cameras as front cameras thanks to the secondary display.

Battery

Both Lenovo Z6 5G Edition and ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G come with a big 4000 mAh battery, but 5G drains a lot, so we will have to test them thoroughly in order to establish if they are good battery phones and which one lasts more. Nubia X 5G has a smaller battery, but its secondary display might let it last more with some usage patterns. Note that ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G is the only to feature wireless charging.

Price

We only know that ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G carries a €900/$1015 price tag, while prices for Nubia X 5G and Lenovo Z5 Pro 5G are still unannounced. Independently from the prices, overall, my favorite one is the ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G because of the bigger display, water resistance, stereo speakers and wireless charging.
