None of its flagships released this year is running a stable version of Android Pie yet and that will be so for months to come. The Korean manufacturer has revealed its update schedule for Android Pie and there isn’t much to be excited about if we are being honest.

LG says the first device to get a stable Android Pie update is the LG G7 ThinQ and the update will arrive in Q1 of 2019. The update will most definitely start rolling out first in its home country, so expect a further delay if you reside somewhere else.

Own the LG V40 ThinQ? LG didn’t reveal when you’ll get Android Pie but they did say that it and the LG G6 will get performance updates that will fix some issues and bring new features.

The LG V30 and LG G7 ThinQ will also get performance updates this month which will also come with security patches.

LG devices run a custom-version of Android called LG UX. However, this year, it released its first Android One phone, the LG G7 One which runs stock Android. It is no coincidence that it has gotten updated to Android Pie.

Nevertheless, LG isn’t the only manufacturer with a customized version of Android, so it isn’t an excuse for its lackadaisical attitude when it comes to updates. Brands like Huawei, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Samsung have already started rolling out Android Pie to their devices.

Timely updates are important for users and forms part of their purchase decision. LG needs to fix up in this aspect if it takes its customers seriously.

The company has started registrations to allow participants for the Android Preview program that allows them to beta test the upcoming update.

This is the second smartphone from the South Korean company to receive the Android Pie update. Recently, the company started pushing the latest Android Pie update to the LG G7 One devices in Canada.

While the Android Preview program is now available to the LG G7 ThinQ users for testing the Android Pie update, it is currently limited to those in Korea only. To join the program, you’ll need to launch the “Quick Help” application and then click on the “LG OS Preview Guide” banner. Once done, you’ll then receive the Android 9 Pie beta update shortly.

The company has also opened a bulletin board where the participants can report the bugs or any future suggestions. LG says that it will try to incorporate those opinions into the official stable OS update. The Android Preview program suggests that the stable Android Pie update is not far away.

To remind you of the phone’s specifications, it comes with a 6.1-inch IPS LCD display with 3120 x 1440 pixels screen resolution, 19.5:9 aspect ratio and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The device is HDR10 compliant with 100% DCI-P3 coverage.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. For photography, there’s a dual 16MP+16MP camera setup at the back. On the front side, it comes with a single 8MP selfie shooter.

It comes with some interesting features like Boombox Speaker, DTS: X 3D Surround Sound and 32-bit audio support. The IP68 rated smartphone is running Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box and is backed by a 3,000mAh battery.

The LG G7 ThinQ comes with a 6.1-inch LCD FullVision display with a QHD+ resolution and a notch at the top. LG has added a feature to hide the notch if you don’t like it.

Powering the G7 is a Snapdragon 845 and 4GB of RAM. There is also 64GB of expandable storage. Apart from the display, LG has also redesigned the rear of the flagship. The dual cameras (both 16MP) now sit vertically instead of horizontally. The cameras take super-wide-angle images and have a bunch of AI features. There is also an 8MP sensor for selfies in front.

The LG G7 ThinQ has 7.1 channel surround sound, an IP-68 rating, and is MIL-certified. It has an audio jack, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0 and a dedicated physical button for calling up google Assistant. It runs Android Oreo out of the box and has a 3000mAh battery with support for wireless charging.

A UK based retailer has begun taking pre-orders and has revealed the price of the device.

The LG G7 ThinQ comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage and the seller has it in Aurora Black and Platinum Gray. Irrespective of the version you choose, you will have to shell out £495 (~$670/~€561) or £594 including VAT (~$805/~€674) depending on your country and excluding shipping charges. This is significantly cheaper than the rumored €849 price we heard at launch.

The new flagship comes with a bunch of new features, a new design, and a notch.

LG G7 ThinQ Design

The most striking change in the LG G7 ThinQ is the notch in the display. Yes, LG has joined the notch train. This is not news as we already knew this from leaked images and a hands-on video from a few months ago.

Even with the notch, the LG G7 ThinQ has a bit of bezel at the top which makes you question why there is a notch in the first place.

On the rear, LG has switched to a vertical arrangement for the dual cameras. Flanking it on the right is the LED flash and laser focus module, and below is the fingerprint scanner. Sadly, the scanner doesn’t double as a power button anymore.

The power button is now on the right-hand side while the volume buttons are on the left. LG has also added a new button for launching Google Assistant. The button can’t be reprogrammed but it is a quick way to access the assistant.

LG G7 ThinQ Specs

The G7’s display is bigger than that of the G6. It is now 6.1” and with a resolution of 3120 x 1440 (QHD+). As expected, there is a Snapdragon 845 processor powering it and it is paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage.

There are dual 16MP cameras on the rear and one takes super-wide-angle shots (107°). The cameras now have AI features similar to those in the LG V30S ThinQ. There is scene recognition which can tell if you are taking the picture of a person, landscape, pet, and more. There is also a Super Bright camera mode for automatic brightness adjustment in low-light conditions. The front camera is an 8MP sensor with portrait mode too.

The LG G7 ThinQ has 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC and a Boombox Speaker feature with an extra boost of bass. There is also DTS Audio for cinema-like audio (7.1-Channel audio to be exact) but you’ll need wired earphones or a speaker to enjoy this feature.

Other features of the LG G7 includes IP68-rating, an audio jack, Android Oreo, and a 3,000mAh battery with support for wireless charging.

LG G7 ThinQ Price

LG has not officially announced a price yet for the American market. However, we heard the G7 ThinQ will sell for €849 in Europe.

The iPhone X’s notched display design has inspired many smartphone OEMs to launch notched smartphones. Leaks surrounding the LG G7 ThinQ have also revealed that it will be sporting an iPhone X-like full screen design. Fresh photos of the real LG G7 ThinQ have surfaced from South Korea to reveal its front and rear design.

Just as the Huawei offers an option to blacken the area on the either sides of the notch on P20 and P20 Pro to make it appear like regular bezel, the LG G7 ThinQ is also expected to arrive with a similar feature. Hence, the LG G7 ThinQ that is expected to arrive with a notched display appears notchless in the new image.

A leaked photo (shown below) that had surfaced in the previous week had revealed LG G7 ThinQ will have a setting for “New Second Screen” that will provide options like Custom and Standard, respectively for hiding and keeping the notch. Also, there are some other customizations like two kinds of design for the upper bezel. Leaked information has revealed that the G7 ThinQ’s notched screen will support QHD+ resolution of 3120 x 1440 pixels along with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9.

The volume up and down buttons followed by a dedicated for accessing the Google Assistant can be found on the left side of the LG G7 ThinQ. The right edge features a power key. The rear side of the phone is made out of glass. The leaked image shows that glass body easily attracts fingerprint marks.

The back panel features vertically arranged dual camera setup with an LED flash beside it. It is expected to include a pair of 16-megapixel camera with f/1.6 aperture. A fingerprint scanner is placed below the camera unit.

Just to prove this point, note that Samsung Galaxy S9 is the first Samsung flagship with stereo speakers. But LG has always paid attention to speakers and it will continue to do so. The Korean company has just revealed that LG G7 ThinQ will boast a feature called “Boombox Speaker” to enhance the audio quality.

Thanks to this feature, LG G7 ThinQ will be able to double the power of bass frequencies and it will increase the base level of the sound by more than 6 dB. Thanks to these enhancements, the upcoming flagship will produce bass frequencies 10x times more powerful than other phones, and these bass frequencies will be even more powerful when the handset lays on a surface or on a box.

The phone should also sport a resonance chamber which will contribute to enhancing the bass quality. And these enhancements will not be the only ones to improve the audio quality of the LG G7 ThinQ. The flagship will also have a Quad DAC Hi-Fi chip and it will support DTS:X technology to produce 3D surround effects through both speakers and earphones. LG G7 will officially debut on May 2.

Ahead of the launch, the company has revealed information about the phone’s display panel, confirming that the G7 ThinQ will come with LG’s latest LCD technology called Super Bright Display.

The company has further revealed that the smartphone will come with a 6.1-inch QHD+ display with screen resolution of 3120 x 1440 pixels with 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Similar to other flagship devices getting launched this year, the smartphone’s Full View display will come with a notch on top.

In addition to improved brightness, the new LCD panel from the company is said to bring power efficiency improvements. The new Super Bright Display covers 100% of DCI-P3 color space. Along with that, there will be six color modes in the Settings menu – Auto, Eco, Cinema, Sports, Game, and Expert.

The G7 ThinQ will also have a ‘brightness boost’ function which will push the peak brightness to 1,000-nits to help boost outdoor visibility. LG has also said that compared to the phone’s predecessor — LG G6, this one will come with a slimmed down bottom bezel by 50 percent.

Apparently, the LG G7 ThinQ will also come with a second screen on the upper bezel, similar to the one we’ve seen on the LG V20. According to the company, the “new second screen” on the smartphone can be used as a status bar or as a single screen combined with the main screen.

Under the hood, the smartphone is expected to be powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 845 processor along with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It will feature a 16-megapixel dual camera setup at the back and an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter for taking selfies and video calling.

The same LG device has appeared on Geekbench to some of the key specs of the smartphone

As it can be seen below, the Snapdragon 845 powers the G7 ThinQ. The SoC is supported by 4 GB of RAM and it is loaded with Android 8.1 Oreo. In single-core and multi-core tests, the G7 ThinQ has respectively scored 2312 and 8979. These scores are decent, but the matter of concern is that it features only 4 GB of RAM.

The recently released Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S flagship phone has 8 GB of RAM. The upcoming OnePlus 6 also features 8 GB of RAM. Some of the mid-range phones like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 are packed with 6 GB of RAM. The Snapdragon 835 powered LG V30s ThinQ and V30s+ ThinQ respectively feature 128 GB and 256 GB of internal storage. Both the models feature 6 GB of RAM. The upcoming LG G7 ThinQ has a more powerful chipset onboard. It would better if the phone features 6 GB of RAM for the base variant.

LG G7 ThinQ could be arriving in multiple storage and RAM variants that could be aimed towards different markets of the world. The correct information on its variants would be known after the official unveiling of G7 ThinQ. Recently, it was reported that the South Korean company is also working on a smartphone called LG V35 ThinQ. Vital information on the specifications of the V35 ThinQ have already appeared in the recent past. Today, popular tipster Evan Blass has claimed that there will be another V-series smartphone this year and it will be called LG V40. He has also revealed that the V40 phone is codenamed as Storm.

V35 ThinQ (Emma) is arriving around the same time as G7 ThinQ (Neo/Judy), while V40 ThinQ (Storm) is the late summer / early fall flagship. https://t.co/dDLeTYwKEf

— Evan Blass (@evleaks) April 20, 2018

Blass has not revealed any information on the specifications of the LG V40. However, it is speculated that it could be arriving as a successor for the LG V30 phone from last year. The LG V30S ThinQ that was launched in February cannot be dubbed as the successor of V30 as both the phones carry similar specs.

The tipster has stated that the LG V40 will be unveiled by late summer or early fall this year. This suggest that the LG V40 may debut at the end of August or early September probably through IFA 2018 tech trade show in Berlin, Germany.

He is of the view that the LG V35 ThinQ that is codenamed as Emma will debut around the same time as G7 ThinQ. The LG V40 is likely to be packed with flagship specs and it could feature the Snapdragon 845. Hence, the phone may sport an iPhone X-like notched display.

While we have already seen lots of leaks related to the phone’s specifications and features as well as images and renders, the new render of the LG G7 ThinQ by @evleaks gives the best view of the phone’s design.

There is a thick metal frame, which reminds us the company’s another model LG G6. The phone also has rounded corners around the phone’s frame. Further, the renders also confirm that the phone’s display will feature a notch on the display — just like most other flagship smartphones launching this year.

The notch consists of a typical sensor, a front-facing camera sensor, and a small earpiece. The smartphone is expected to come with a dual rear camera setup with two 16-megapixel sensors, which will be a step up from the 16-megapixel + 13-megapixel combo setup on the LG V30.

Based on the previous reports, the phone will also come with recording and playback support for HDR 10. The flagship phone is expected to sport an M+ LCD display with a panel said to be “twice as bright as the G6 and significantly more colorful.”

Under the hood, the LG G7 ThinQ is expected to be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset and have up to 6GB of RAM. The phone is believed to feature an extra physical button to trigger an AI-enabled voice assistant.

The South Korean company was expected to launch LG G7 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 tech expo this year. However, instead of launching G-series flagship, it announced the LG V30S ThinQ and LG V30S+ ThinQ smartphones. Recent information reveals that LG’s next flagship will carry LG G7 ThinQ moniker and it will be unveiled on May 2. Newer information revealed by AndroidHeadlines states that LG’s upcoming V-series phone will be called LG V35 ThinQ.

Citing information received through a reliable source that has been crosschecked by LG’s in-house documentation states that the successor for LG V30/V30 Plus and V30S ThinQ / V30S+ ThinQ phones will be indeed called LG V35.

Design

When LG had launched the LG G6 with 18:9 display in 2016, it was marketed as a large-sized display phone designed for one-handed operation. The South Korean company is expected to use the same marketing strategy for the LG V35 ThinQ that will be equipped with an edge-to-edge design. The company will also advertise it as a lightweight device that offers immersive experience. It is expected to hit the market in two colors like Black and Grey with premium glossy finish.

Display

Leaked information reveals that the LG V35 ThinQ won’t be featuring the MLCD+ technology display that is speculated to arrive on the LG G7 ThinQ. Also, it seems that the P-OLED (polymer OLED) display that is available on the LG V30 and V30S smartphones won’t be available on the LG V35 ThinQ as its internal documentation does not contain any information on POLED panel. The handset will be arriving with an 18:9 aspect ratio supporting 6-inch FullVision OLED display that will offer 80 percent screen-to-body ratio. The documents do not suggest that it will have a notched display like G7 ThinQ.

Cameras

The LG G7 ThinQ is expected to come with a pair of 16-megapixel camera sensors. The same dual camera setup is expected to available on the V35 ThinQ. For color capturing, it will include an f/1.6 aperture 16-megapixel primary sensor that is equipped with a glass lens and 10-bit HDR compatibility. It will be coupled with a 16-megapixel secondary wide-angle lens that will offer a field of view of 107 degrees. The camera features like AI Cam, Google Lens, Super Bright Mode and camera related AI tweaks that are available on the G7 ThinQ will be also coming to the V35 ThinQ.

Artificial Intelligence

The LG V35 ThinQ will be a “super-smart device” and the company will be greatly focusing on its AI benefits. AI will allow users to carry out various tasks and do more on the phone by using less time while using voice assistant, camera and other features of the phone.

Audio

The LG V35 ThinQ will include the 32-bit high-performance ESS Sabre 9228 quad DAC. It will be packed with various customization features and digital filters for improving the audio output. Also, it will be equipped with far-field voice recognition in order to take advantage of the capabilities of the voice assistant at a larger distance of up to 17 feet.

According to the popular Twitter tipster, Evan Blass, LG will unveil the G7 bearing the name LG G7 ThinQ and that has been confirmed. Ahead of the launch, a couple of TPU cases on the G7 have appeared online and along with them comes the opportunity to get yet another sneak preview of the LG flagship before it is officially launched.

The LG G7 protective cases come with an efficient anti-slip design. Eve in the event of a fall, the cases possess the ability to cushion the fall so that the device isn’t damaged. One of two different cases leaked has a clip for holding the smartphone firmly in the pocket and can even be used on the breast pocket. The case also comes with a covering for the display which would protect the screen from breaking if the phone falls and will also keep the screen protected from scratches by sharp objects like keys inside the pocket. The second protective case is obviously for the ladies as it comes in pink. Apart from the pink color, the case is designed with refractive stones all over the back.

Basically, the design is consistent with the previous renders of the G7 which we had seen previously. The device is expected to adopt a notch display design at the front which will house the selfie camera and an LED notification indicator as well as the front speaker. While at the back, there will be a vertically aligned dual rear camera setup and under the camera will sit a fingerprint sensor. The LG G7 ThinQ will feature a 6.1-inch display.

The LG G7 ThinQ has its power button and volume rockers located on the right side but there is also a button on the left which is said to be a dedicated AI button. Thus, LG may likely be playing the AI card as well. We’ll have to wait until the launch to find out what the AI button does but it may be similar to Samsung’s Bixby button. Specs-wise, the LG G7 ThinQ will be arriving with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 mobile platform, 4 GB of RAM and an internal storage of 64 GB. There may likely be a higher memory variant.

Latest leak has revealed a press render of the phone that showcases its different color variants.

On May 2, LG will be keeping a press event at Metropolitan West in Manhattan, New York, U.S. and on May 3, a media event will be carried out at Yongsan IP Park Mall in Seoul, South Korea to announce the G7 ThinQ smartphone.

In February, LG had used the ThinQ branding for the first time on its LG V30S ThinQ phone. ThinQ branding is LG’s initiative to fulfil its goal of thinking from customer’s viewpoint in order to provide them with features that are most frequently used by them along with AI technology. Vision AI feature on LG G7 ThinQ will deliver improved camera experience. Other AI features that will be arriving on the G7 ThinQ include Empathy AI and Voice AI.

Shown below is a leaked press render of the LG G7 ThinQ. Like the previously leaked photos, the new render shows the G7 ThinQ with notched display and vertically stacked dual camera setup. The new render reveals that it will be arriving in five color options such as Aurora Black, Platinum Grey, Moroccan Blue, Moroccan Blue (Matte), and Raspberry Rose.

According to Android Headlines, the Aurora Black will be the default color variant of the LG G7 ThinQ. The availability of the other colors may vary depending on the region and carrier. Apart from the volume rocker and power key, the handset also features an additional button. It is speculated it could be a dedicated button for AI assistant.

Previous reports have revealed that the LG G7 ThinQ is codenamed as LG Judy. It is rumored to house a 6.1-inch MLCD+ technology display. However, other sources that there could be an OLED screen version of the phone.

The G7 ThinQ is powered by Snapdragon 845 chipset and comes with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. It is speculated that there could be another variant called the G7+ ThinQ that will come with a larger inbuilt storage of 128 GB. It is likely to arrive with dual 16-megapixel camera lens with f/1.6 aperture. Rumors have it that the company also announce the LG Q7 mid-range phone alongside the LG G7 ThinQ.

The name of the device has been confirmed today through newly leaked photos and screenshots that have been received by TechRadar.

The LG G7 ThinQ is pegged to hit the market in the next month. It has a model number of LG-G710TM and it is currently going through early testing stage in the U.S. In the new photos, the handset can be seen placed inside a plastic case. Rumors have revealed that the LG G7 ThinQ will be arriving with a 6.1-inch display. The notch present on the topside of the screen is clearly visible in the leaked image. The notch houses a notification LED indicator and a front-facing camera.

It appears that the LG G7 ThinQ has a power key located on its right edge. The left side has a dedicated key for AI. There is no information available on whether LG will let users to customize it for using it for accessing other features.

The second snapshot reveals that LG G7 ThinQ will be arriving with Snapdragon 845 mobile platform, 4 GB of RAM and an internal storage of 64 GB. This hardware combination looks good, but nowhere close to the performance of Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S that comes with Snapdragon 845, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The upcoming OnePlus 6 is also confirmed to arrive with the same chipset, RAM and storage.

Other reports have suggested that there could be another model called LG G7 ThinQ+ that will include an internal storage of 128 GB. The G7 ThinQ that is running on a pre-release software has recorded an impressive score of 252,473.

Since the handset is slated to hit the shelves in May, it is speculated that the South Korean company may announce in late April and make it available on pre-orders immediately.

Previous reports have claimed that the LG G7 ThinQ could be priced between $850 to $950. The other flagships like OnePlus 6, Honor 10 and Xiaomi Mi 7 are expected to debut within the second quarter of the year. Hence, LG G7 ThinQ is expected to face tough competition from Chinese branded flagship phones that are going to arrive with affordable pricing. Do you think that the sales of the G7 ThinQ will be disturbed by OP6, Honor 10 and Mi 7? A fresh tweet from well-known tipster Evan Blass reveals that the upcoming LG G7 would actually hitting the market as LG G7 ThinQ. Also, LG has confirmed to South Korean media that its next flagship phone will be announced by the end of this month and it will be hitting the shelves by mid-May.

The addition of “ThinQ” to the moniker of the LG G7 indicates that it will carry support for various AI features such as AI Cam and QLens. AI Cam can identify the subject and recommend the best shooting mode from options like portrait, food, pet, landscape, city, flower, sunrise and sunset. QLens can scan QR codes, bar codes and it is also rumored to support real-time language translation.

Recent reports have revealed that the right edge of the phone will feature the Power key whereas the left edge of the phone will be housing volume rocker and another physical button. The latter may provide quick access to Google Assistant, QLens and QVoice.

According to a South Korean publication, its next generation flagship will be announced in the home country in late April. Its reservations are expected to start one week later in South Korea and it is likely to hit the market in mid-May.

Rumors have revealed that the LG G7 will be featuring MLCD+ display that consumes 40 percent less energy than a typical LCD panel. Also, it is known for delivering up to 800-nits brightness. LG has confirmed to the South Korean media that since the smartphone will be featuring LCD panels instead of OLED, it will be carrying a cheaper price tag.

There are conflicting rumors about the dual camera setup of the LG G7. Some rumors have claimed that it will be fitted with f/1.6 aperture 16-megapixel dual rear cameras. However, others have claimed it could feature f/1.5 aperture dual camera sensors.

Like the V30S ThinQ and V30S ThinQ+, the 64 GB and 128 GB variants of the upcoming LG flagship may respectively arrive in the market as G7 ThinQ and G7 ThinQ+. The Snapdragon 845 mobile platform accompanied by 6 GB of RAM may power the phone. The South Korean company is also rumored to announce the LG Q7 mid-range phone alongside the LG G7 ThinQ.
