However, the Korean manufacturer seems to be making moves to improve its poor track record. It has now been reported that the LG G8 ThinQ is receiving a stable Android 10 update. But that isn’t the only exciting news. You can also grab a brand new unit on Amazon for just $399!!! Awesome, right?

Last month, the LG G8 ThinQ, the LG V50 ThinQ, and the LG V50S ThinQ 5G began receiving Android 10 beta stable update in LG’s home country. Just a month later and a stable update is already rolling out to the 2019 flagship.

The update arrives with version number G820N20x and it comes bundled with November 2019’s security patch. There are no details on the new LG features the update brings but expect Android 10 features such as smart reply, a new navigation system, and dark mode.

The update is rolling out in Korea at the moment and may take a few weeks before it arrives in other markets.

EDITOR’S PICK: LG’s low-end and mid-range phones will be made by ODMs

If you are on the search for a new phone under $500, then the LG G8 ThinQ is currently on sale on Amazon for just $399. That is a great deal considering the phone launched for $850. It is important to state that the phone has actually been discounted multiple times over the past couple of months but this seems to be its lowest price yet. We do not know how long the deal will last or how much stock Amazon has, so you may want to hurry.

The LG G8 ThinQ has a 6.1-inch QHD+ OLED FullVision display with a notch at the top. There is a Snapdragon 855 processor under the hood paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. The phone has a 16MP primary camera paired with a 12MP ultrawide angle camera on the rear while the front is home to an 8MP camera. LG has also buried some sensors in the notch for what it calls Air Motion which allows you to control the phone with certain hand gestures.

There is a 3500mAh battery under the hood with support for 21W fast charging and wireless charging. It also has an IP68 rating, Crystal Sound OLED which uses the display as a speaker, NFC, and an audio jack. There is Face ID, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and Amazon’s Alexa assistant on board.

The G8X features a 6.2-inch display with a dewdrop notch. The absence of a dedicated fingerprint sensor hints at the possibility of an in-display fingerprint scanner, which would be a first for LG. The dewdrop notch is too small to house any dedicated facial recognition sensors. This means that users will have to stay content with a selfie camera-based screen unlock unit.

If LG plans to replace the G8 ThinQ with the G8X, the hardware needs to be of flagship standards. The G8X is likely to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, although, there is no information on the memory or storage options on offer. The G8X gets a dual camera setup at the rear. LG could introduce new sensors soon, although, the G8X reportedly has the same primary and wide angle setup as the G8 ThinQ.

The images confirm the presence of a 3.5mm audio jack and a USB Type-C port. The highlight of the G8X is the presence of an earpiece. This means LG has done away with the vibrating screen technology for voice calls, previously seen on the G8 ThinQ.

Reports have claimed that that South Korean company may launch the LG V60 ThinQ smartphone at IFA 2019. A new leak claims that the firm may unveil a new phone called LG G8X. PriceBaba in collaboration with OnLeaks has shared 360-degree renders of the smartphone.

The leak reveals that the LG G8X will be arriving as the successor of the LG G8 ThinQ that was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 in February. However, the LG G8X sounds more like an enhanced version of the smartphone. The publication has shared some renders of the phone to reveal its front and rear design.

The front side of the LG G8X features a display with waterdrop notch. Even though the LG G8 ThinQ had arrived with flagship specifications, it came with an outdated display design that featured a wide notch. Like the G8 ThinQ, the G8 8X is also equipped with a horizontal dual camera setup. Next to the camera module is the LED flash and some sensors. Interestingly, there is no rear-mounted fingerprint scanner on the device.

According to OnLeaks, the front notch of the phone has less space to house facial recognition sensors. Hence, the smartphone seems to be equipped with an in-screen fingerprint scanner. By this, it could become the first LG phone to come with the advanced fingerprint scanning feature.

The leak reveals that the smartphone will be featuring a 6.2-inch display. The right edge of the device is fitted with a power button. The volume up and down buttons are found on the left edge of the device. There is a dedicated key below the volume buttons that can be used to access the Google Assistant.

The top edge of the LG G8X has a SIM card tray. The bottom side of the smartphone features a loudspeaker grille, a USB-C port and a 3.5mm audio jack. The presence of an earpiece just above the front camera is an indication that the company could be ditching the Crystal Sound OLED speaker that emitted through the display.

Ther is no information available on the other specifications of the LG G8X ThinQ smartphone. Probably, it could be featuring the Snapdragon 855 or the faster Snapdragon 855+ SoC. The display of the phone may continue to support quad HD+ resolution. Hopefully, more details of the phone may get revealed through leaks ahead of the IFA 2019 launch.

If you have not yet decided if you should purchase it probably because you don’t know how great the camera is, then DxOMark’s camera review should help you make that decision.

The LG G8 ThinQ has been reviewed by the camera review labs and their review is up for public viewing. The version they reviewed is the one with the triple rear camera setup – a 12MP f/1.5 primary camera + 16MP f/1.9 ultra-wide angle camera + 12MP f/2.4 telephoto camera. There is actually a second variant that has dual cameras (sold in the US). It doesn’t have a telephoto lens for optical zoom.

The LG G8 ThinQ has an overall DxOMark score of 96. This is broken down into 99 for photos and 89 or video recording. On DxOMark’s ranking, the G8 ThinQ sits at the 21st spot, above the OnePlus 6 which it ties with and under the Mi MIX 2S. The OnePlus 6 actually has a higher photo score of 100 but the LG beats it in video recording.

DxOMark says LG has improved the autofocus of its latest flagship. It is now faster and more accurate than that of the LG V40 ThinQ. They also praised its handling of exposure even in backlit conditions and its color rendering both indoors and outdoors. However, the presence of artifacts (conspicuous elements in the photo which are not in the real scene) is what lowers its score. The phone scores really low on Bokeh and zoom too which contributes to its overall low score.

For videos, the LG G8 ThinQ handles exposure and color reproduction well. It also scores high in stabilization. However, autofocus suffers, especially in low light. There is also a visible jello effect and a “noticeable frame-shift in walking scenes”.

You can read the full review here. DxOMark has not released a selfie camera review yet for the phone. Once that is available, we will let you know. Nevertheless, the LG G8 ThinQ doesn’t seem like a good choice if you are after camera performance. There are multiple other options such as the more than a year old Pixel 2 or even the Xiaomi Mi 8. Both devices are less expensive now since they already have successors. If you want to spend more money, the Xiaomi Mi 9 is a great option.

Now, the company has revealed that the device will be available for pre-orders in South Korea from 15th March.

As for the pricing, the LG G8 ThinQ will cost KRW 897,600 in South Korea, which roughly converts to $795. The phone will be available for pre-orders in the country between March 15-20 and it will go on sale starting March 22.

The company has said that the device will be provided with a screen replacement facility for one year and will come bundled with a free case. The G8 ThinQ notably comes as a successor to the LG G7 ThinQ that was launched last year.

Coming to the phone’s specifications, the smartphone features a 6.1-inch OLED notched display that carries support for Quad HD+ resolution of 1440 x 3120 pixels. Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 chipset, coupled with 8GB of RAM.

In the camera department, it comes with a triple camera setup on its rear that includes a 12-megapixel main sensor, a 12-megapixel telephoto lens, and a 16-megapixel ultra wide-angle lens. On the front side, the device comes equipped with an 8-megapixel front-facing snapper and a 3D ToF (Time of Flight) sensor.

Design

Xiaomi Mi 9 is one of the most stylish phones that you can actually get at a modest price. And it is also the most beautiful one of this trio. Its wonderful glass back and its high screen-to-body ratio are the main elements making it so impressive. The second place, in my opinion, goes to ZTE Axon 10 Pro for a cleaner look thanks to its in-display fingerprint reader and its narrow bezels. Even though I think LG V8 ThinQ has a more outdated design, there is to award it for the best build quality. While Xiaomi Mi 9 does not offer any kind of certification and ZTE Axon 10 Pro has just the IP68 certification, LG G8 ThinQ has both the IP68 standard and the military-grade certification, so it is fully waterproof and drop resistant.

Display

While it is not the best flagship you can find when it comes to the design, LG G8 ThinQ has one of the most outstanding displays and it is way better than Xiaomi Mi 9 and ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G. Indeed, it offers more detail and even a more accurate color reproduction with a wide color gamut and a high brightness. Some may just not like that its display is smaller: just 6.1 inches against 6.39 and 6.49 inches of its rivals (19.5:9 aspect ratio). But hey, there is always a compromise to face. LG G8 ThinQ supports an innovative air gesture system that allows controlling the phone without even touching the screen. That looks very comfortable.

Hardware/Software

It is worth focusing on connectivity while talking about the hardware side because ZTE Axon 10 Pro is one of the first 5G-enabled phones. That is why I would choose it without thinking twice. All these devices are equipped with a Snapdragon 855 chipset, but the Axon 10 Pro also has the Snapdragon X50 which enables the support to 5G networks and blazing speeds in download and upload. On the other hand, Xiaomi Mi 9 comes with more RAM in its most expensive version: up to 8 GB. But it has no expandable storage, unlike LG G8 ThinQ and ZTE Axon 10 Pro.

Camera

On the paper, Xiaomi Mi 9 seems to have the triple rear camera that will deliver the best photo quality, but we can not give a definitive verdict until we tested all of these devices thoroughly. Note that all these devices come with a triple camera composed of a main sensor, a telephoto lens, and an ultrawide lens. But LG G8 ThinQ may be able to shoot better selfies with its dual selfie camera sporting a very bright focal aperture and a TOF 3D sensor that will be used for AR appliances and authentication.

Battery

With its huge 4000 mAh battery, ZTE Axon 10 Pro should deliver a very long battery life, way longer than both Xiaomi Mi 9 and LG G8 ThinQ. It should have no problems lasting a full day even with stressed usage patterns. On the other hand, LG G8 ThinQ will not be disappointing with its above-average 3500 mAh battery. Xiaomi Mi 9 should be the less convincing one as its battery is even smaller. A great thing of all these flagships is the fact that all of them support a fast charging technology as well as Qi wireless charging, thanks to their glass backs.

Price

Unfortunately, Xiaomi Mi 9 is the only device of this trio that is already in the market. It recently debuted with a starting price tag of just €449 for the configuration with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. Given that they did not hit the shelves yet (and do not expect the ZTE Axon 10 Pro anytime soon as it is a 5G device), we do not know how much they will cost. Without knowing the prices, I would go for the ZTE Axon 10 Pro because of its bigger battery and the support to 5G connectivity, as well as its cool camera department, stereo speakers and wide display.

Design

While I do not like the standard design of the LG G8 ThinQ so much, it is a very hard battle between Samsung Galaxy S10e and Xiaomi Mi 9. I will choose the Galaxy S10e because of its Infinity-O Display that embeds the front camera, as well as its attractive canary yellow color variant and its more compact design. But someone may like the Xiaomi Mi 9 due to its stunning glass back available in gradient hues changing colors depending on the light and the viewing angle. Instead, LG G8 ThinQ has the best build quality and it should be the most resistant phone. It has both the military certification and it is also waterproof. Samsung Galaxy S10e is waterproof, while Xiaomi Mi 9 does not offer any kind of water resistance.

Display

Despite having the biggest notch, LG G8 ThinQ has the most advanced display. It is the only Quad HD+ panel of the trio. It has 100 percent of DCI-P3 coverage and it supports the HDR10 and Dolby Vision standards for perfect color reproduction. Samsung Galaxy S10e should come right after with its Dynamic AMOLED screen and the HDR10 technology, but note that it has a smaller 5.8-inch display.

Hardware/Software

In each case, you get a flagship-class hardware department. So, there will be marginal differences between the performances of these devices. All come with the Snapdragon 855 chipset excluding the European version of the Galaxy S10e, and they have up to 8 GB of RAM except LG G8 that only comes with 6 GB RAM. But Samsung Galaxy S10e goes up to 256 GB, while the others stop at 128 GB. Further, Xiaomi Mi 9 has no expandable storage, while Galaxy S10e and LG G8 ThinQ have a micro SD slot.

Camera

On the paper, Xiaomi Mi 9 looks like the phone with the most outstanding cameras. However, we still had no chance to test each of these devices’ cameras, so we can not give you a final verdict about them. By the way, all of them are outstanding camera phones. LG G8 ThinQ and Xiaomi Mi 9 are equipped with triple cameras including an ultrawide and a telephoto lens, while Galaxy S10e lacks the telephoto lens but comes with a variable aperture on the primary sensor, so it should shoot stunning photos even in low light conditions.

Battery

LG G8 ThinQ has the biggest battery, but we are not sure that it will provide the longest battery life. Indeed, it has a display with a higher resolution and we did not always like how LG optimized the batteries of its phones. Samsung Galaxy S10e has a much smaller battery, so it should not be the winner of this comparison as well. Xiaomi Mi 9 sits in the middle, but with its Full HD+ display, if it has a good software optimization, it may result as the winner of the battery comparison.

Price

Samsung Galaxy S10e will cost €779/$749, while Xiaomi Mi 9 is already on pre-order in the global market for just €450/$512. We still do not know the price of the LG G8 ThinQ, but if it will cost more than €550/$626, then Xiaomi Mi 9 wins this comparison because of its higher value for money.

While a lot of details related to the smartphone have already leaked online, there’s still some information getting released as the launch nears.

In the latest development, it is being reported that the LG G8 ThinQ will come with Crystal Sound OLED technology that turns the phone’s screen into an audio amplifier. This technology is similar to the one which vibrates the screen to produce sound, with an effect that the company claims increases volume.

In a statement released by the company for confirming this display-based audio feature, LG said:

At MWC 2019, LG Electronics (LG) will remind audiences of its reputation and history as a leader in smartphone sound with the new LG G8 ThinQ featuring Crystal Sound OLED (CSO), an innovative technology that utilizes the phone’s OLED display as an audio amplifier.

Also, this doesn’t mean that the phone’s screen will be shaking all the time. The company explains that in speakerphone mode, it will deliver audio through the bottom speaker, and step up to two channels with the top part of the screen.

Other audio features of the smartphone include support for emulated 7.1 surround sound using DTS:X with or without headphones, and its “Boombox Speaker” design that uses space within the phone as a resonance chamber to fill out its sound. It also supports Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) encoded audio that Tidal uses and has a Hi-Fi Quad DAC.

LG had previously confirmed that the G8 ThinQ will come with a front-facing ToF sensor from Infineon Tech, which will also support 3D face unlock feature. Additionally, the phone is rumored to feature a notched display and is expected to arrive with triple rear cameras.

Under the hood, the device will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 chipset. The SD855 SoC could be supported by 6GB of RAM and the company has already confirmed that the device will support some sort of touch-less gesture controls. Reliable tipster and industry expert Evan Blass shared a fresh render of the G8 ThinQ. The new render has revealed the entire design of the smartphone from all angles.

LG G8 ThinQ Render

The LG G8 ThinQ render shows that it is equipped with a notched display. In fact, the front design of the phone is quite similar to the G7 ThinQ smartphone. Even the size of the notch on the G8 ThinQ is same as the G7 ThinQ. The side bezels of the phone are slightly narrower than the predecessor model.

The backside of the G8 ThinQ is made out of glass which features a horizontal dual camera setup and a fingerprint scanner. The G7 ThinQ was equipped with a vertical dual camera module. The G8 ThinQ name is placed at the center of the back panel and LG branding can be seen towards the bottom. The bottom edge of the phone features a USB-C port and a 3.5mma audio jack. The left edge of the phone features a volume rocker and a dedicate button for accessing Google Assistant. On the right side of the G8 ThinQ is a power button.

LG G8 ThinQ Specifications

The G8 ThinQ is expected to house a 6.1-inch OLED display that will offer quad HD+ resolution of 1440 x 3120 pixels. The Snapdragon 855 chipset will be present under the hood of the device.

It could be assisted by 6 GB of RAM and it may come with an inbuilt storage of 128 GB. For more storage, it is likely to feature a microSD card slot. The smartphone may feature a 3,400mAh battery and it will be preloaded with Android 9 Pie OS.

The G8 ThinQ is likely to get announced on Feb. 28 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 in Barcelona, Spain. It may release in the U.S. on March 22. The smartphone is expected to arrive in Canada with a price tag of $1,999 CAD. In the U.S., it may cost around $900.

The flagship phone will come with a slight change in design and new internals. The price of the phone in Canada has leaked and provides a rough estimate for other countries.

The price was shared on the web by a Reddit user. The image shows the 128GB LG G8 ThinQ will be priced at CAD 1199.99 (~$903).

The G7 ThinQ was sold for CAD 1049.99 ($790.68) by Bell and Virgin Mobile but it had 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. For CAD 150 more, the LG G8 ThinQ brings a more powerful processor, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The 64GB model should sell for less.

As usual, we expect those who pre-order will get significant free gifts along with their phone. Those who pre-ordered the LG G7 got a free 43-inch LG 4K UHD Smart TV.

The LG G7 ThinQ launched for $750 in the US, so the LG G8 ThinQ which has more storage may sell for $800 or a little over that. In India, it launched as the LG G7+ ThinQ with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for INR 39,990 (~$562), much cheaper than the 64GB version sold in North America. The G8 may cost over $600 but it will likely still be one of the cheapest flagships.

The LG G8 ThinQ will come with a notched display, a ToF selfie camera, dual rear cameras, and a larger battery. It will be powered by the Snapdragon 855 processor and should run Android Pie out of the box.

The LG G8 ThinQ will be debuting soon as a good rival for the Galaxy S10. Through a press release, LG has revealed some key features of the selfie camera of the LG G8 ThinQ flagship phone that will be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019. It has confirmed that the phone will be equipped with a 3D ToF (Time of Flight) selfie camera.

LG has collaborated with Germany based Infineon Technologies for G8 ThinQ’s 3D ToF camera. For adding depth to the selfie shots, smartphone OEMs make use of software-based complex algorithms to calculate the distance between the subject in a selfie image and the camera sensor. On the other side, a ToF camera measures the depth on the basis of the time taken for an infrared light to reach the subject and return to the camera sensor. Hence, ToF works well in ambient light which reduces the pressure from the application processor. This helps in reducing the power consumption on the device.

Because of the fast response of the ToF sensor, it can be also used for facial scanning. The ToF camrea can see objects in 3D because of which it is not affected by light emitted by external sources. This in turn assists in accurate facial recognition in dim-light conditions. Hence, the G8 ThinQ is expected to carry support for facial authentication through its ToF selfie camera. The presence of the ToF sensor will allow the G8 ThinQ to be used in AR and VR applications.

Compared to structured lighting system for 3D facial recognition on Apple iPhones, a ToF sensor is cheaper and easier to manufacture. The press release further states that the G8 ThinQ will be a premium smartphone that will deliver unmatched camera capabilities.

The G8 ThinQ is rumored to feature a notched display and its rumored to arrive with triple rear cameras. The Snapdragon 855 chipset is expected to power the upcoming LG flagship. The SoC could be supported by 6 GB of RAM. LG has already confirmed that the device will support sort of touch-less gesture controls. While the display still has a notch and the number of cameras on the back has remained unchanged, the LG G8 ThinQ does differ from the LG G7 ThinQ in other ways. One of which is its battery capacity which leaked last week.

The battery capacity of the phone was found in certification documents issued by Brazil’s version of the FCC called Anatel. The certification was issued for a Li-ion battery with model number BL-T41.

The document says the battery has a nominal capacity of 3,400mAh but an image of the battery itself shows the capacity is 3,500mAh. So how do we know it is for the LG G8 ThinQ?

The document says the LG BL-T41 is compatible with “Projecto Alpha” and since it has been reported that the codename for the upcoming flagship is “Alpha”, one can deduce this is the LG G8 ThinQ’s battery.

The LG G7 ThinQ has a 3,000mAh battery, so 3,500mAh is definitely a significant bump for the LG G8 ThinQ. On the other hand, the LG V50 ThinQ is said to pack a 4,000mAh.

Even LG is also working on the LG G8 ThinQ as leaked by various rumors and reports. It is reportedly coming with a unique “Sound on Display” technology. Further, there will high-quality display, Snapdragon chipset and a huge battery intact. Today, it has been captured from different angles in the first ever LG G8 ThinQ renders. The design falls in the same line as witnessed in the recently leaked CAD designs.

After looking at the renders, you will notice a display notch carrying round edges. Its notch seems to house various sensors such as a dot projector, IR camera and Time of flight camera. It is speculated that LG is looking to eliminate the fingerprint authentication as no fingerprint sensor can be seen on either rear or the front sides. They are mending ways to introduce more secure facial recognition.

Unlike LG G7 ThinQ, the press renders showcase LG G8 ThinQ without an earpiece in the notch. It is raising speculations that they are replacing earpiece with the “Sound on Display” technology.

On the rear side of the device, there’s a dual camera with an LED flash and a fingerprint sensor. We can see the metal body engraved with G8 ThinQ branding on the backside. On the right side, there’s a power button with SIM card tray and antennae bands visible. While volume up/down keys and Google Assitant key has got a place on the left side of the device. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a glimpse of its bottom and the top sides.

LG G8 ThinQ specs

In the recent leak, it has been suggested that LG G8 ThinQ will carry 6.1 inches 19.5:9 aspect ratio display. Purportedly, it will measure 152 x 72 x 8.4mm and will be shorter and thicker than the LG V40 and G7. It is also coming with all new “Sound on Display” technology which will replace earpiece on the front side of the device.

There are many other rumors which state the presence of dual displays on the device. Even, LG plans to announce a 5G flagship device at Mobile World Congres 2019. LG’s 5G device will carry Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, and a huge battery of 4000 mAh.

As of now, nothing is confirmed regarding the LG G8 ThinQ and LG’s 5G smartphone. All the specs are just mere speculations and have been originated from leaks and rumors. We suggest you take them as a grain of salt in the ocean.

This suggests that the 360-degree renders may belong to a different device and not LG G8 ThinQ.

Original Story:

LG is expected to announce the LG G8 ThinQ flagship phone at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 tech event in the coming month. Popular tipster @OnLeaks and 91mobiles have shared the 360-degree renders of the LG G8 ThinQ smartphone to reveal its design and key details.

LG G8 ThinQ renders reveal that its overall design is not very different from the predecessor LG G7 ThinQ smartphone. The handset sports a metallic frame and a glass rear. Instead of the vertical dual camera setup found on the predecessor model, the G8 ThinQ is equipped with a horizontal dual lens system. The renders suggest that the G8 ThinQ will lack support for Laser Autofocus. The rear shell of the phone is also fitted with a fingerprint reader.

The G8 ThinQ 360-degree renders show that it features a notched display. It seems to be housing dual selfie snappers inside the notch. The handset could be featuring the same 8-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual selfie camera setup that is available on the LG V40 ThinQ smartphone, but there is no confirmation on it yet.

The LG G8 ThinQ is now expected to adorn a look like the ZTE Axon M smartphone which came with dual displays. The G8 won’t be featuring dual displays, but it will offer an option to add a second screen through a special case. It won’t be a foldable device, but it will just provide an option to provide more display space by adding a second screen.

The LG G8 ThinQ as well as the secondary screen will be equipped with slim side bezels which will ensure there is minimal gap between the two displays when they are attached. With both screens attached, it is expected to appear like a single device with a large 7-inch display. Moreover, the handset will be featuring support for “touchless” input that will make it possible to operate it with hand gestures.

One should be aware of the fact that even though the phone with support for second display is being dubbed as LG G8 ThinQ, there is no official confirmation on the moniker yet. The South Korean company was rumored to launch a foldable phone at the upcoming MWC 2019 tech trade show. However, it appears that the alleged LG G8 ThinQ could be the phone that may have been confused for LG’s foldable phone. It is advisable to wait for further reports to confirm on the exact moniker of the LG phone with support for secondary screen.

CNet has also claimed that LG will be using the MWC 2019 platform to announce multiple phones. LG has been using the MWC tech expo to announce its G-series flagship. Hence, it is likely that the LG G8 ThinQ could be also unleashed at the upcoming tech trade show.

The V40 ThinQ is expected to house an OLED display However, Ice Universe a reliable leakster from China has some information on the LG G8 ThinQ phone that may debut at the start of 2019. He has claimed that the G8 would be coming with an LCD panel and it will be carrying support for 4K resolution.

Most of the flagship phones that are available in the market either feature FHD+ or QHD+ resolution. As far as LG is concerned, it is one of the first companies to sell QHD resolution supporting smartphones. The South Korean company is now rumored to be working on G8 ThinQ with 4K LCD screen. There is no confirmation on why it has decided to increase the screen resolution on its 2019 flagship phone. It is being speculated that the G8 ThinQ may support 4K content. Hence, having a 4K panel will considerably enhance the viewing experience while watching VR content.

Sony is the only major smartphone maker that has been releasing smartphones that support 4K resolution such as the all new Xperia XZ2 Premium that offers ultimate 4K HDR experience. LG has shown less interest in VR, but it seems that it may begin focusing on it starting from next year

Using a 4K resolution supporting display could be company’s strategy to rival with Samsung as the latter is expected to use the new resolution on Galaxy S10 and S10+ arriving next year. The 2019 Galaxy S phones will be equipped with AMOLED display.

The LG G8 ThinQ is also likely to feature the upcoming Snapdragon 855 SoC. However, it is too early to comment on the specs and features of the smartphone as its arrival is almost a year away.
