LG has finally revealed the much-awaited launch date and price of its latest Gram 17 laptops. The latest iteration of this popular lineup of lightweight laptops will hit the market on February 1st. Earlier this year at the CES 2023, LG also showcased updates to its Gram series, including the Gram 17. The Gram17 now features a variable refresh rate, Dolby Atmos support, and 13th Gen Intel processors. This new series has been dubbed the “LG Gram Pro,” but it will simply be listed as “LG Gram 17” on LG’s website.

It appears that LG will launch two models. The cheaper variant will feature an NVIDIA RTX 3050 GPU, 16 gigs of RAM, and 1TB SSD. On the other hand, the higher-end variant will feature the same GPU but 32GB RAM and 2TB SSD. Both aforementioned models will be powered by Intel Core i7-1360P processors. 

Other Gram models, in 16-inch, 15-inch, and 14-inch sizes, are also set to receive upgrades later this year. These new models, which include the 17Z90R, 16Z90R, 15Z90R, and 14Z90R, aim to provide users with a balance of performance and portability. Equipped with the latest Intel Evo platform, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 GPU, 13th Gen Intel Core processors, LPDDR5 RAM, and Gen4 NVMe SSD, these laptops will be capable of handling demanding tasks with ease, LG claims. Despite their lightweight design, the new Gram laptops boast a large battery capable of providing over 20 hours of video playback on a single charge.

It’s worth noting that the new Gram 17 is different from the iridescent-finished Gram Style and the 16-inch Gram UltraSlim, which were also unveiled at CES earlier this year. While those models may be eye-catching, it’s the tried and tested Gram 17 that may be the more practical and reliable choice for many customers in 2023. The laptops can be purchased via LG’s official website and selected retail outlets post-launch. The base model will be priced at $1999, whereas the higher-end option will be priced at $2299.

LG has announced its Gram 16 and Gram 17 laptops which are lightweight devices with 12th Gen Intel Core CPU, NVIDIA RTX 2050 GPU. The laptops will be available from next month in LG’s home market of South Korea. The LG Gram laptops are thin and light – and both of the new models also follow that trajectory. The LG Gram 16 weighs 1.28kg while the Gram 17 is slightly heavier at 1.43kg.

The two laptops, apart from their compact nature, also offer some convenience options that serve to optimize their performance. Each of the new models is capable of detecting activity around them like when the user walks away from the laptop or another person comes close. This enables the display to be customized to sustain visibility at all times. It also displays a warning message when a person comes behind the user.

The LG Gram 16 and Gram 17 laptops bear striking similarities apart from their CPU and GPU. The displays of both Gram 16 and Gram 17 have 16:10 WQXGA IPS screens. Their screens have an anti-glare coating and the panel is capable of fully exhausting the DCI-P3 color space. The battery capacity of the two new laptops is 90kWh.

The new laptops are priced from 2.29 million won (~$1,880) for the lowest variant of Core i5 CPU and 16GB/256GB Gram 16 model. The corresponding price for the Gram 17 model with the same base configuration is 2.39 million won (~$1,962). It is unclear at this time, the global availability of the two laptops. We however expect its availability in select markets at the least, after its Korea launch.

We don’t get to see laptops with a 17-inch display every day due to their bulkiness. Instead, this is steadily turning into the exclusive preserve of desktop PCs. However, LG is out to rock the boat with the launch of the latest Gram laptop. The LG Gram 17 defies the ods to come with some degree of portability, in terms of its weight.

The LG Gram 17 features a 17.3-inch screen with a resolution of 2560×1600 resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. The laptop weighs just 1.33kg which is almost similar to those of many 13-inch laptops. Thus, this is a big laptop that could still pass as a portable one. The Gram 17 design includes a dark silver Carbon Magnesium alloy chassis that is only 17.8 mm (0.7 inches) thick. The chassis is notably thinner than most 15-inch notebooks. Specifically, it is thinner than the ASUS ZenBook Pro 15.

Furthermore, the LG Gram pack a quad-core Intel Core i7-8565U (Whiskey Lake-U) processor and LG’s UHD Graphics 620 iGPU fires up the graphics. Th processor is paired with a whopping 16 GB of DDR4-2400 RAM as well as 512 GB SATA SSD. Unlike the vast majority of 17-inch notebooks, the LG Gram 17 does not have a discrete GPU, which will be missed by gamers and performance enthusiasts, but that has helped to keep the weight and power consumption on the low. LG claims the battery can last up to 19.5 hours on a single charge but failed to disclose the battery capacity.

For connectivity, the LG Gram 17 comes with a 802.11ac Wi-Fi + Bluetooth module, three USB 3.0 Type-A ports, a USB Type-C connector that can be used for charging the laptop. The laptop can also be charged using the dedicated power connector. The device also packs an HDMI output, a microSD slot, and a TRRS jack for headsets. You also get a webcam fitted with an IR sensor for Windows Hello as well as a fingerprint reader, bringing two forms of biometric authentication.

Talking about the price, the LG Gram 17 is no way in the budget category. It comes with a price starting at $1,699. It is presently available to buy at BestBuy.
