LG‘s fortune in the global smartphone market has not been as rosy lately as that of fellow South Korean phone maker and market leader Samsung. The company’s market share and profit margin have both continued to slump for the past successive quarters. That notwithstanding, the company continues to release new smartphones in the various category. The budget segment saw the launch of the LG Q7 alongside the Q7 Plus and Q7 Alpha. Roughly three months after, the Korean firm has launched the budget Q7 in India. The smartphone comes with an Rs. 15,990 price tag which is about $228. It will be available across retail outlets starting September 1.

The LG Q7 takes over from last year’s Q6 but this time it is fitted with a 5.5-inch FullVision Display with a resolution of 1080×2160 pixels and an 18:9 aspect ratio.  The device is powered by an Octa-core MediaTek MT6750S chipset clocked at 1.5Ghz. The processor is paired with 3GB of RAM while there is 32GB of expandable storage onboard.

For photography, the Q7 packs a 13MP sensor with a large f2.2 aperture and PDAF while at the front, there is an 8MP sensor with an f1.9 aperture. Both the front and back cameras can record 1080p video. The  Q7 crams a 3000mAh battery with Quick Charge under its hood and runs Android Oreo out of the box. The phone comes in two colours; Aurora Black and Moroccan Blue and will be available across retail outlets in India as from September 1 Rs. 15,990 (~$228). This price point put it in direct competition with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and Nokia 6.1 Plus. We doubt if the Q7 will be able to edge them out because they come with a more powerful SoC and have gained solid footings since their launch. We must point out, though, that the Q7 has an awesome design going for it. LG may introduce the Q7 Plus with a similar design but having a Snapdragon 450 processor in the near future.

A new LG model has been spotted on Geekbench with the dressings of a mid-range model. The device is believed to be the LG Q7 which LG trademarked the moniker in March with the Korean Intellectual Property Office. 

The Geekbench listing seems to have confirmed that the device will arrive with a MediaTek Helio P10 chipset. The chipset is paired with 4GB of RAM while it runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. On the test score, the Q7 got a single core score of 630 points and 2322 points on the multi-core test.

There are speculations that the phone will likely arrive as a mini version of the LG G7 ThinQ, just like the LG Q6 was a mini LG G6.
