While the company has showcased rollable television in the past, this TV is unique thanks to its dual sided rolling mechanic on its screen.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-395699 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/lg-oprolbare-tv.gif?x10805" alt="LG" width="1440" height="950" /></p>
<p>According to a <a href="https://nl.letsgodigital.org/televisies-tvs/lg-tv-rollable-display-2021/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>LetsGoDigital</em> </a>report, the South Korean tech giant was awarded a design patent by The Hague International Design System. This patent was titled &#8216;Television with rollable display.&#8217; In its rolled up form, the television resembles a shape of an elongated speaker, which has rounded sides. The device houses the display on either side that can be pulled out. When pulled out, the display unfurls out from the two housing units.</p>
<p>The company has already showcased the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/20/lg-signature-oled-tv-r-finally-goes-on-sale-in-south-korea-for-100-million-won87000/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">LG Signature OLED TV R</a>, which has its rollable display roll out from a base. But unlike this model, this rollable TV is more compact and has a triangular housing that extends horizontally rather than vertically. Looking at the design sketches from the rear, it can be observed that this display is supported by a T shaped frame. Unfortunately, finer details like the size of the screen and its resolution is currently unknown at the moment. Although, it does appear to have a 16:9 aspect ratio along with an OLED panel.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-395701 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/lg-tv-rollable-display-770x663.jpg?x10805" alt="LG" width="770" height="663" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/lg-tv-rollable-display-770x663.jpg 770w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/lg-tv-rollable-display-770x663-300x258.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/lg-tv-rollable-display-770x663-768x661.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/lg-tv-rollable-display-770x663-696x599.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/lg-tv-rollable-display-770x663-488x420.jpg 488w" sizes="(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px" /></p>
<p>Notably, this design has the patented LG Rollable OLED TV resemble the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/12/ces-2021-tcl-showcases-marvelous-rollable-oled-smartphone-and-a-17-inch-scrolling-display/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">TCL CSOT rollable TV</a>, which was demonstrated in October 2020. As of right now, it is unknown if the company is actually working on such a TV or is just covering all bases. However, it does offer us a look at a futuristic and compact rollable TV that could even be portable.</p>

A recent tweet by a Twitter user with the name @<a href="https://twitter.com/FrontTron/status/1393810374164508675" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">FrontTron</a> indicates that the company&#8217;s staffers in South Korea have the opportunity to purchase the few remaining models at an extremely cheap price.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/lg-velvet-2-pro-2.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-390060" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/lg-velvet-2-pro-2.png?x10805" alt="LG Velvet 2 Pro" width="962" height="605" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/lg-velvet-2-pro-2.png 962w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/lg-velvet-2-pro-2-300x189.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/lg-velvet-2-pro-2-768x483.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/lg-velvet-2-pro-2-696x438.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/lg-velvet-2-pro-2-668x420.png 668w" sizes="(max-width: 962px) 100vw, 962px" /></a></p>
<p>The tweet also detailed around 3,000 units of the unreleased models to be available to the Korea-based staff of LG Electronics. The devices on offer are the LG Rainbow/Velvet 2 Pro and the LG Rollable, both of which were never released.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The Velvet 2 Pro is what should have been the successor of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/01/lg-velvet-5g-india-launch-could-be-held-this-month/">LG Velvet</a> that was released last year but it wasn&#8217;t released before the company announced its exit from the smartphone market. The stand-out feature of the Velvet 2 Pro is its pressure-sensitive touch sensor button which controls the volume and serves as the power button.</p>
<p>The Velvet 2 Pro is an all-around improvement from its predecessor, although the Twitter post did not offer much on the specifications of the models that were on sale. We, however, know that it comes with a triple camera setup at the rear and a front camera housed in a waterdrop notch.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/lg-velvet-2-pro-twitter-leak.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-390055" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/lg-velvet-2-pro-twitter-leak.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="554" height="574" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/lg-velvet-2-pro-twitter-leak.jpg 554w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/lg-velvet-2-pro-twitter-leak-290x300.jpg 290w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/lg-velvet-2-pro-twitter-leak-405x420.jpg 405w" sizes="(max-width: 554px) 100vw, 554px" /></a></p>
<p>The leak mentioned that the auctioned devices would only enjoy six months of technical support and no software updates. It also indicated that the Velvet 2 Pro would be sold to staffers for around $170. The outlook is that there could be a surge of demand in-house. The company is also prohibiting a resale of the models by successful buyers.</p>
<p>The moves by LG in selling off unreleased products is a culmination of its decision to pull out from the smartphone market, which was made public in April 2021. There could still be a few other unreleased LG models that may also be sold off via the in-house template.</p>

<p>A live image of the LG Rollable smartphone has leaked online, showcasing the black-colored phone with its design. Along with that, another smartphone from the brand, LG Rainbow aka <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/lg-v70">LG V70</a> has also surfaced online.</p>
<p>The <a href="https://twitter.com/FrontTron/status/1379249325784526850">report also claims</a> that the LG V70 smartphone isn&#8217;t getting launched in May or June this year. In fact, it says that the phone is dead and will not be released in the market. It also reveals that the LG Rollable won&#8217;t be equipped with the latest <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-888">Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset</a> but will utilize a lower-grade processor.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-364890 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/lgrollable.png?x10805" alt="LG Rollable Smartphone" width="738" height="416" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/lgrollable.png 738w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/lgrollable-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/lgrollable-696x392.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 738px) 100vw, 738px" /></p>
<p>LG had teased its rollable smartphone earlier this year at <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ces-2021">CES 2021</a> and had promoted to launch the device later this year. But given that the company is exiting the smartphone market, the release of the smartphone seems to have been suspended.</p>
<p>Earlier, there were reports about the company suspending the rollable smartphone but a couple of months ago, LG spokesperson said that the device has <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/24/a-company-spokesman-says-lg-rollable-development-not-suspended/">not been put on hold</a> and added that there was no decision about the future of its mobile products. Right now, all we can do is wait and see what the company decides for the rollable smartphone.</p>

After drifting between reports of the project getting halted and back to life, here we are with a new Bluetooth SIG listing.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-364890 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/lgrollable.png?x10805" alt="LG Rollable Smartphone" width="738" height="416" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/lgrollable.png 738w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/lgrollable-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/lgrollable-696x392.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 738px) 100vw, 738px" /></p>
<p>An <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/LG">LG</a> smartphone with a model number LM-R910N appears on the Bluetooth certification website. It mentions the name of this device as &#8216;<a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/LG-Rollable">LG Rollable</a>&#8216;. The qualified design for this also seems to be an end product and will feature Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity.</p>
<p>LG broke the news of a new Rollable smartphone briefly at the LG Wing launch. Then, it came out with a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/11/lg-quietly-teases-its-rollable-smartphone-at-ces-2021/">product video and showcased</a> the design back at CES 2021. However, soon after this, LG got struck with a  new controversy.</p>
<p>Reports said that LG will soon be <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/22/lg-smartphone-business-vingroup/">quitting the mobile business</a> and with it, the LG rollable <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/22/lg-halts-development-for-the-lg-rollable/">will also be halted</a>. That said, thanks to a company spokesman&#8217;s statement, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/24/a-company-spokesman-says-lg-rollable-development-not-suspended/">hopes</a> of the smartphone making its way to the retail markets are still on.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-378435 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/LG-Rollable-Bluetooth-SIG.png?x10805" alt="" width="1570" height="807" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/LG-Rollable-Bluetooth-SIG.png 1570w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/LG-Rollable-Bluetooth-SIG-300x154.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/LG-Rollable-Bluetooth-SIG-768x395.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/LG-Rollable-Bluetooth-SIG-1024x526.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/LG-Rollable-Bluetooth-SIG-696x358.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/LG-Rollable-Bluetooth-SIG-1068x549.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/LG-Rollable-Bluetooth-SIG-817x420.png 817w" sizes="(max-width: 1570px) 100vw, 1570px" /></p>
<p>Anyway, apart from the name and Bluetooth info, the listing doesn&#8217;t reveal any crucial information. Speaking of which, the specs regarding the LG Rollable are minimal right now. However, it should be the second device under the LG Explorer project termed as &#8216;Project B&#8217; courtesy of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/02/lg-rollable-display-smartphone-project-b-launch-next-year/">earlier reports</a>.</p>
<p>Regarding the launch, few rumors say that the company has pushed the timeline from Q1 to Q3 of 2021(July-September) but lets for official info.</p>

While <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/LG">LG</a> is yet to make a phone with a foldable display, it is making a rollable phone which it teased at <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/CES-2021">CES</a> last month. A spokesman for the Korean electronic&#8217;s giant has said that the phone which should launch as the LG Rollable is still on the way.</p>
<p>LG had teased the device at CES 2021 with a promise to release it later this year. However, reports about LG exiting the mobile phone business have led people to believe that it may suspend the project.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-364890" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/lgrollable.png?x10805" alt="LG Rollable Smartphone" width="738" height="416" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/lgrollable.png 738w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/lgrollable-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/lgrollable-696x392.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 738px) 100vw, 738px" /></p>
<p>Earlier this week, the Korean publication, <em><a href="https://en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN20210222005600320">Yonhap News</a></em>, reported that LG may scrap the development of the phone as it considers leaving the mobile business. In relation to the story, a spokesman from LG Electronics informed <em><a href="https://www.theverge.com/2021/2/22/22296298/lg-rollable-denial-not-on-hold-or-cancelled">The Verge</a></em> that the device has not been put on hold. He is quoted to have said: “I can firmly deny that any such decision on future mobile products has been finalized,”.</p>
<p>That doesn&#8217;t sound very convincing as an analysis of the statement shows that it is not an outright denial that it won&#8217;t happen at all or it has not been considered but that the decision has not been finalized. It is also hard to take LG for its words as it originally denied it has plans to exit the mobile phone business before turning around later to say it is indeed considering doing so.</p>
<p>The LG Rollable will be the second phone from the LG Explorer Project. The first is the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/14/lg-wing-is-official-fixes-smartphone-usage-problems-weve-lived-with/">LG Wing</a>. News of a rollable smartphone from LG first <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/02/lg-rollable-display-smartphone-project-b-launch-next-year/">surfaced in July last year and the device was referred to as Project B</a>. We expect more details to surface with respect to the LG Rollable in the coming weeks.</p>

But now, it seems that the company is halting development for this device along with two other innovative handsets as well.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-364890 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/lgrollable.png?x10805" alt="LG rollable Smartphone" width="738" height="416" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/lgrollable.png 738w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/lgrollable-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/lgrollable-696x392.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 738px) 100vw, 738px" /></p>
<p>According to a <a href="https://biz.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2021/02/22/2021022200912.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>BizChosun</em> </a>report, the South Korean tech giant has stopped the developed of three OLED display projects. These displays were supposed to be housed on upcoming innovative smartphones, including the LG rollable, and other foldable devices as well. Furthermore, the projects were also being co developed by known display maker <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/boe/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">BOE</a>. Reportedly, BOE is now reviewing a claim regarding development costs to LG.</p>
<p>The primary reason for the company halting development on its smartphone project is likely its lagging mobile division. For those unaware, the brand has been seeing lackluster sales in the last couple of years. To combat this, the company had aimed to launch innovative devices in the future, but weak sales for handsets like the LG Wing might have affected the company&#8217;s decision. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/11/lg-quietly-teases-its-rollable-smartphone-at-ces-2021/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">During CES 2021, LG had teased its first rollable smartphone</a>, which could have its display size expand or retract.</p>
<div style="width: 620px;" class="wp-video"><!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('video');</script><![endif]-->
<video class="wp-video-shortcode" id="video-372471-1" width="620" height="412" preload="metadata" controls="controls"><source type="video/mp4" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/lgrollable.mp4?_=1" /><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/lgrollable.mp4">https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/lgrollable.mp4</a></video></div>
<p>At the moment, it is unknown what amount BOE is looking to charge LG with regarding the matter. Additionally, an industry insider stated that &#8220;Because the development cost per smartphone model is about 10 million dollars based on Korean panel makers, we are looking for a smaller amount from the BOE. The source further added that &#8220;we set the mass production target as low as 100,000 units, we will not or have accumulated a lot of supplies.&#8221;</p>

<p>The company had recently launched the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/lg-wing-5g/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">LG Wing</a> under its Explorer Project, which basically is an initiative from the brand to launch innovative new products. Thus, we can expect the LG Rollable to also be a part of this project as well. Previously, we had also reported on a patent from the company, which described a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/02/lg-smartphone-rollable-display-explorer-project/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">device with roll up display that extended from either side of the smartphone</a>.</p>

<p>Shortly after, LG has now registered a trademark for the name LG Rollable with the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office). This trademark also carried a short description of the product, which suggests that the device might also feature a stylus pen support. Furthermore, the company is also aiming for a very direct and simple branding for its first handset with a rollable device, as per a <a href="https://nl.letsgodigital.org/smartphones/lg-rollable-smartphone/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>LetsGoDigital</em></a> report.</p>

<p>The South Korean company is expected to launch its first rollable device within the first quarter of 2021. Unfortunately, finer details regarding the device are also currently unknown as well. So we will have to wait for an official company announcement or a leak to know to have more information regarding the rollable device. So stay tuned for more updates.</p>
