The device was said to be the company’s last proper 5G handset in the market. And as we know, the brand has now left the smartphone industry for good. However, the company still seems to be holding on to its software update promise. The V60 ThinQ 5G is now getting the taste of the latest Android 12 update.

The LG V60 ThinQ in the US, specifically the T-Mobile models are getting the Android 12 update. What’s surprising is that the phone wasn’t on LG’s list of eligible devices for the Android 12 update but it’s still getting it, anyway. It appears that LG wants to offer most of its premium smartphones the latest updates. For instance, recently, the LG Velvet received the Andriod 12 update in South Korea.

The build number for the update is SKQ1.211103.001 and the update is sized 1.17GB. There’s not much information in the changelog as it just vaguely mentions bug fixes, security and system improvements(via). The update also brings March 2022 security patch, not the latest, but still a recent one.

If you own a V60 ThinQ and are from the US, you should have received the OTA update notification. You can also update it manually by heading to Settings > Software Update. If you do not see the Android 12 update in the Software update section, do wait for some time as it’s likely a staged release, so it will take some time to reach V60 ThinQ models.

Now, ahead of the launch details, official-looking renders of the V60 ThinQ has leaked online.

This is the first clear at the flagship smartphone that we’ve seen so far. From the renders, it’s clear that the device will come with a waterdrop notch on top of the display for housing a single selfie camera.

In comparison, the LG V50S feature dual front-facing camera while the V50 packs a single camera sensor on the front side. However, the bezels around the display seems quite thin and there’s also an earpiece on the top bezel which seems a bit wider, indicating the presence of dual speakers.

On the left side, there’s a volume rocker key as well as a dedicated Google Assistant button while the power button is placed on the right side. However, that button is not visible on the rendered image.

The phone is said to come with a quad-camera setup on the back where the sensors will be arranged horizontally. The device is also expected to come powered by a 5,000mAh battery, an upgraded compared to the V50S ThinQ‘s 4,000mAh battery. We also expect the smartphone to come with fast charging technology.

Interestingly, the lock screen on the leaked render of the phone shows 24th February, which was the scheduled launch date. However, since the Mobile World Congress 2020 has been cancelled, the new launch date for the same is not yet known.

While the company has not yet announced the new launch date for the LG V60 ThinQ smartphone, we expect the device to go official next month, i.e. March 2020.

Nevertheless, some features of the upcoming LG V60 flagship have surfaced thanks to a leak from Evan Blass.

According to a tweet posted by the famed leaked, the images below are stills from a promotional video of the “LG Time” a.k.a. LG V60 ThinQ.

The first image shows the LG V60 has a four-channel microphone system. There is one at the bottom which is the primary mic while another is positioned at the top for noise-cancelation. Two more microphones are positioned near the rear cameras. However, it appears all four microphones will be able to capture audio when recording.

LG has marketed the V-series as a phone great for making cinematic videos and with four microphones on the V60 ThinQ, this should enhance the audio for video recordings.

Thankfully, the image is see-through and allows us to see some of the phone’s other specs. In addition to the four rear cameras, the LG V60 ThinQ has four rear cameras arranged horizontally. It also has a single front-facing camera that is positioned in the middle and will be housed in a notch.

The image also shows the phone will pack a massive 5000mAh battery. This is a significant bump from the 4000mAh battery of the LG V50S ThinQ. We hope LG ships it with support for a faster-charging technology.

The image also shows the LG V60 ThinQ will have an audio jack at the bottom. This makes LG practically the only big-name brand still keeping the audio jack on its flagship phones.

The second image gives us a better look at the audio jack and also highlights the battery capacity. We can also see the phone has a speaker grille flanking the USB Type-C port on one side.

There are rumors LG will kill its G-series of smartphones. The unconfirmed reports have also said that it will launch a new series and keep the V-series. However, there is no release date yet for any new LG flagship at the moment since it canceled its MWC attendance.

Since the LG G8 series did not arrive with 5G support last year, it is speculated that the rumored 5G phone arriving along with V60 ThinQ 5G could be the LG G9 series. Renders of the LG G9 had surfaced at the beginning of the year. Fresh information coming from David Ruddock of Android Police reveals that the South Korean company is planning to overhaul its smartphone strategy. It may result in the axing of G-series and arrival of a new series later this year.

According to Ruddock, LG’s V-series phone arriving in 2021 will be bundled with a large display of 10 inches or higher so that it can be used as a tablet or laptop. It is not clear whether the phone will connect to the larger display through a dock or wirelessly. The device could be accompanied by a keyboard accessory.

He added that starting from this year, the V-series will be rivaling with the Galaxy S series lineup from Samsung. The G series may be effectively phased out and the South Korean company will have a new series arriving later this year. The new series could be aimed to rival with Samsung Galaxy Note series, 2020 iPhones and the next generation Pixel series smartphones. The company be also prepping some foldable phones to take on Samsung’s foldable smartphones.

It seems that the LG G9 won’t carry support for palm recognition and hand gestures that were added on the LG G8 series. It will be equipped with the good old 3.5mm audio jack. The upcoming LG V60 ThinQ is expected to arrive with an improved Dual Screen accessory. Photos of the LG V60 ThinQ’s rear panel have surfaced on the web and they give us an idea of the design and its camera configuration.

The images show the rear cameras will be arranged horizontally just like that of the LG V50 ThinQ. However, the opening is longer and hints at the LG V60 ThinQ coming with more cameras. Our guess is there will be four cameras along with the LED flash occupying the hole.

There is no cut-out for the fingerprint scanner which means we are getting an in-display fingerprint sensor like that of the LG V50S ThinQ. The photos show the phone will come in black and surprisingly, pink.

Popular leaker, OnLeaks, said the V60 ThinQ may be the same he originally leaked as the LG G9. If that is true, the LG V60 ThinQ will have a U-shaped notch in its display as shown in the leaked renders of the LG G9. The phone should also have an audio jack and a dedicated Google Assistant button.

It is also possible that the LG G9 and LG V60 ThinQ share the same rear design but different designs for the display. Nevertheless, more leaks will probably surface before the device’s launch next month at Mobile World Congress. Actually, we believe the LG G9 and LG V60 ThinQ will arrive together.

A 5G variant of the same smartphone had debuted in South Korea as LG V50s ThinQ in October. Fresh information reveals that the company is gearing up to introduce new flagship phones at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2020 in February. According to The Korea Herald, industry sources have revealed that LG will be announcing a new 5G flagship smartphone and LG V60 ThinQ 5G at the MWC 2020.

The LG V60 ThinQ will be a 5G enabled device that will arrive with a Dual Screen accessory. The V50 ThinQ’s second screen accessory came with “free stop hinge” technology that allowed users to stop and hold the second display at desired angle. The V60 ThinQ will be arriving with an upgraded folding technology for its Dual Screen accessory. An unnamed industry official stated that the LG plans to unveil V60 ThinQ as 2020’s first phone to expand is presence in the 5G market. He also said that the firm aims to increase its shipments in markets such as South Korea, the U.S. and Japan.

The report on the South Korean publication did not reveal the name of the new 5G-ready flagship phone that will be unleashed alongside the LG V60 ThinQ 5G. At the MWC 2019, the South Korean company had showcased the LG V50 ThinQ 5G with Dual Screen accessory and LG G8 ThinQ and G8s ThinQ phones. The G8 phones did not support 5G connectivity. Hence, there is a possibility that the company may announce the LG G9 ThinQ and LG G9s ThinQ with 5G capabilities along with the V60 ThinQ 5G. As of this writing, there is no confirmation on the specs of the LG G9 series and LG V60 ThinQ.

The V60 ThinQ could be driven by the Snapdragon 865 mobile platform that tags along the X55 5G modem for 5G connectivity. Last year’s LG G8 series came with a wider notch on their screens that include a selfie camera and a ToF (Time of Flight) 3D camera for Hand ID that scanned the veins in the palm of the user to unlock. It remains to be seen whether the LG G9 series also comes with Hand ID feature.

The invitation is in the form of a 20-second clip that is posted on YouTube. It reveals a dual display LG phone that could be the LG V60 ThinQ phone may go official on Sept. 6.

The teaser video shows a game playing on a smartphone screen where the primary character, shaped as a smiling head, is chasing items shaped as a gamepad and a camera. The game resembles Pac-Man to some extent, if you remember the legend.

The game then moves on to a second screen to the left, where the character jumps to a map that is laid out. The character then reaches a point on the map, which is IFA 2019 in Berlin. Both screens then proceed to fold together with the message “Save the Date” popping out. The next message reads “10:00, Friday, September 6, 2019”. The IFA Tradeshow will take place in Berlin between September 6 and 11, 2019.

Editor’s Pick: Throwback Tech Thursday: We Revisit the Best Selling BlackBerry Curve Series

The clip teases a dual-screen smartphone, which many believe is the V60 ThinQ, if LG decides to stick with their usual moniker. Users will be able to use the dual-screen functionality to play games on their device, as showcased. While the larger display is primarily meant for gaming, the smaller screen is to be used for more utilitarian purposes.

LG had said earlier that the dual-screen display will be unveiled along with a new smartphone at a media conference taking place at the Pullman Hotel Berlin Schweizerhof. The upcoming device likely supports 5G connectivity like the LG V50 ThinQ that was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 earlier in February this year. The V50 ThinQ went on sale in the US market in June 2019.

The second screen on the V50 ThinQ can be used as a Bluetooth gamepad, for video playback and running other apps. It also acts as a flexible camera viewfinder. Similar functionality is expected from the V60 ThinQ as well. Other anticipated features on the smartphone include a triple rear camera setup, a Snapdragon 855 SoC, water resistance and a 3.5mm audio jack.
