One of the major business concerns of the firm is the manufacture of computer accessories including mechanical keyboards.

The brand has unveiled a new wireless mechanical keyboard dubbed Angry Miao Cyberboard R3. The keyboard is designed to have an amazing aesthetic appeal apart from ergonomics which is a key feature of mechanical keyboards. To be candid, the wireless keyboard adopts a retro-styled design with prominent keys and a slight elevation which removes the need for a tilting stand.

The keyboard comes in four attractive colors — Pink, Green, White and Black colors. Of course, the pink hue is targeted at the female folks but may likely be appealing to males as well considering the divergent colors that some of the key sets get. The new color scheme is said to have been inspired by Wes Anderson, an American filmmaker better known for his deployment of symmetry, eccentricity, and distinctive visuals in his films.

Furthermore, the Cyberboard R3 features a customizable lighting effect, new RGB hardware as well as 256-level DC dimming. The keyboard is also scratch-resistant and has an electronic display at the back which shows the battery level. The keyboard charges via a USB-C port.

As for the prices, the three color options of Pink, Green, and Black will retail for 3,600 yuan (~$564) while the white variant is priced at 3,900 yuan (~$611). For now, the keyboard is available in China only but we expect Li Nan’s startup to make inroads into other markets soon.

While announcing the new brand, he had said that the new product will be unveiled soon.

Now, it has been confirmed that the first product from the company is a mechanical keyboard. The product, which is named CYBERBOARD, has a design which is reportedly inspired by Tesla‘s Cybertruck.

The CYBERBOARD mechanical keyboard is now up for crowdfunding on Indiegogo. At the time of writing this article, the campaign has already fulfilled 375 percent of its initial goal of raising around $20,000.

It is claimed to be the world’s first custom LED panel keyboard and comes with 200 LED lamp beads and specific chips for programmed lighting effects. The company is also offering a unique web interface for DIY configuration.

At that time, he had said that he would focus on the consumer market and developing new brands.

Today, he has announced the launch of its new company — Numiao Technology aka Angry Miao Technology. The company has also confirmed that it will hold a press conference later this month.

The online press conference, which is scheduled to take place on 26th August, could see the first batch of devices getting launched by the company. However, we are not yet sure what the devices are.

Not just devices, it is not yet known what the focus of the company will be. It is unlikely that the company will be launching smartphones as it could violate non-compete contracts given that Li Nan was a Vice President at Meizu just a year back.

EDITOR’S PICK: Here are the Best Prime Day 2020 Deals on Amazon Devices in India: Kindle, Fire TV Stick & More

As per the reports coming from the Chinese media, the company has received millions of dollars in investment from Meituan Dragon Ball Capital. However, this has not been confirmed by the company.
Li Nan had co-founded Meizu along with Bai Yongxiang who is the CEO and Huang Zhang (Jack Wong). Apparently Meizu has had plans to release a full screen device since 2017, but the idea and product never came to fruition. To this end, we’ve actually got some sketches that show early concepts for a bezeless device from Meizu.

The photo of the design sketch shared by Li Nan was taken on November 12, 2017 in Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai City. It shows the concept design of three different takes on full screen devices. They’re very rough takes, but they get the idea of a bezeless device across. We also get a thickness of 8mm on these, and a possible price of 3299 yuan.

Editor’s Pick: Meizu confirms 5G smartphone launch in the first half of 2020

According to the blogger who broke the news, the device was going to be called the Blue Charm Zero, but the idea was unfortunately cut early. It’s a shame, because according to Li Nan, Meizu had the idea for pop-up cameras long before Vivo, and they simply didn’t act on it. If they had, it’s fully possible the current smartphone landscape could look very different.

Unfortunately, it seems like Meizu’s slowing down steadily recently, and they haven’t got much to show for it. Just a couple of days ago Meizu’s system engineer, Hong Hansheng, left the company, and before that we also had Li Nan leave. As of right now, the company has yet to make any big announcements, though we hope we hear something from them soon.

Prior to him revealing his exit from the company he helped start, the former top executive had denied he was leaving. In a memo he made public, he explained he had to clear the air regarding his exit from the company which had generated some messy news.

In the memo, he revealed he already started taking fewer responsibilities following the launch of the Meizu 16. He did acknowledge that the company is facing challenges but believes things will get better as long as they do not stop improving.

While he wasn’t specific about his next step, Li Nan revealed that he is still focused on the consumer market and developing new brands. He also thanked co-workers, investors, and shareholders.

Li Nan co-founded Meizu along with Bai Yongxiang who is the CEO and Huang Zhang (Jack Wong). The company started as an MP3 player manufacturer before switching to phones in 2008. Its portfolio is diverse now but phones are its major source of revenue. Last year, Meizu celebrated its 15th anniversary.

That is no doubt a small figure beside that of rival Xiaomi’s Redmi. The low figure is partly attributed to Meizu’s refusal to expand to other markets. However, things may change soon as the company restructured its leadership on May 15.

Li Nan is now a senior vice-president and the chief strategy officer while Yang Hao heads the marketing department and takes on the title of CMO. Both of them will report to CEO and Chairman Huang Zhang.

One of such flagship-looking midrange smartphone is the Meizu X. The Chinese company launched the Meizu X around November last year packing an impressive design, Helio P20 chip and 2.5D curved glass among other features. The tech giant should have launched a successor to the well-received smartphone but that didn’t happen up till now.

It is almost certain that we wouldn’t be seeing a successor to the Meizu X this year anymore. However, Meizu’s VP Li Nan may have revealed some details of the second-gen model that would take over from the X. We still don’t know the name of the model but previous leaks had identified it as the Meizu X2. Li Nan is credited to have hinted in a live broadcast that the next generation Meizu X is a flagship model and no longer a midrange phone. He also hinted that there would be a substantial upgrade in the specs and that would take the price up to around 2,499 Yuan. This would place the next-gen Meizu X way higher than its predecessor that started at 1,699 Yuan for the lower model and 1,999 Yuan for the topmost model.

Read More: New Leaks Of Meizu Full Screen Phones M6S and M15 Plus Surface Online (Images and Specs)

The Meizu VP did not disclose specific details of the Meizu X2’s specifications but the smartphone is expected to keep up with the current full-screen trend. We also expect the device to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor since MediaTek has stopped developing flagship chips. No word yet as to when the device will be launched but we expect it to drop in the first quarter of 2018.

The company had earlier rejigged its entire operation, with the creation of the Meizu division as well as the Blue Charm division and the Flyme division. The Meizu division oversees the flagship smartphones while the Blue Charm division handles mid-range and budget models and the Flyme division handles the software aspect. Meizu’s CEO, Huang Zhang was identified as heading the Meizu division while the Blue Charm division is said to be headed by Li Nan, longtime Meizu VP.

It is now rumoured that Meizu’s CEO/ Founder Huang Zhang will personally oversee the Blue Charm division in a new adjustment. The report alleges that the CEO will be involved in the product planning and building in the division. This leaves us confused as to what happens to Li Nan who was earlier unveiled as the President of the Blue Charm division. But Li Nan is reported to have confirmed that Huang Zhang has taken over the Blue Charm division to enable the brand launch a major offensive next year from the division.

Read Also: Meizu M15 Plus (and Meizu M15) Anniversary Phone launching Next Year

Meizu’s Blue Charm division is very well known for its mid-range and budget models which are usually with topnotch designs. The Blue Charm models could sometimes pass for flagship models like the M6 Note and several others. The company is expected to release a flagship or perhaps two products for its 15th anniversary next year. It may just be a scenario of the CEO trying to ensure the smartphones launched under both the flagship Meizu division and Blue Charm division come out with thrilling designs. We’ll be on the lookout to see how this pans out.

The Meizu division was directly under the control of Jeffery Wang, Meizu’s chairman and CEO and the division was responsible for the manufacture of the company’s flagship models. The Blue Charm division was headed by Meizu VP Li Nan and became the bedrock of its mid-range and budget models including accessories like headphones. The Blue Charm division was recently rumoured to be undergoing some rebranding. That seems to be the case as a new logo for the Blue charm division has been spotted on an official letter Meizu sent out to its fans.

The letter meant to announce the 300 Yuan price cut on the Meizu Note 6 carried a logo which looks like two tiny pills lying unevenly side by side. From the look of things, the Meizu logo may likely be yanked off the Charm Blue models going forward as it is nowhere in sight on the letter (pictured below). However, that is yet to be officially confirmed by Meizu.

This is not the first time a logo said to be the new Charm Blue logo is appearing online. We had earlier seen two new logos which turned out to be fake. So, we cant be so sure about this one until it is officially unveiled. We must point out that the news story surrounding the rebranding of the Charm Blue division is on the increase and gathering more steam. It would be recalled that Meizu is rumoured as also planning to change the Charm Blue brand to mBlu and there have been several leaks which point in that direction.

The Blue Charm division is headed by Li Nan, and in a recent interview, he revealed that the company will open its first brick and mortar store.

The store which is expected to be opened before the next Spring Festival (February 2018) will be different from other stores including Meizu’s own stores and Xiaomi’s Mi Home stores. Li Nan says the store will be more like a lifestyle store than a regular mobile phone shop.

Blue Charm seems to want to get things started properly by combining an impressive offline experience with its online presence. There is no info as to how many of the stores will be opened across China. There will probably be more details after the first opening.

Those that are yet to get on the train are either about to launch their’s or are still working on their own models. Meizu seems to be one of those still working on its bezel-less smartphone. The idea of a Meizu phone has been in the news for a while now and very recently, a bezel-less Meizu mBlu Zero was spotted online only revealing a part of the bezel-less display.

The Meizu mBlu Zero looks like a device from the Blue Charm product line which has been repositioned and has the premium M6 Note as its first model after the restructuring of the entire Meizu brand. The name very well suggests the device will be in the Blue Charm line and so, it wasn’t very surprising when Meizu’s Li Nan responded to the rumored mBlu device.

Read Also: Meizu Rumoured As Working On A Bezel-Less Phone Code-named Ocean

For the avoidance of doubt, Li Nan is the President of the Meizu Blue Charm division and he did confirm that they are working on a full-screen phone and it would be released next year. This is coming as an interesting piece of information because Meizu has repeatedly denied they were working on a full-screen phone when the rumor first emerged.

There is no denying that both brands are innovative in terms of design and others, so it is usually not surprising when they release smartphones which look to take on each other most times. There are indications the Xiaomi Mi 6 might likely have a rival flagship from Meizu.

Meizu VP Li Nan seems to have hinted about the impending launch of the elusive Meizu Pro 7. The VP who was responding to an inquiry on Weibo hinted that the company would launch a smartphone this month and it isn’t the Meizu M5X but it comes with a new look and some very interesting design. Although he didn’t mention the name of the expected device, it is suspected to be the Pro 7. Firstly, Meizu launched the high-end Pro 6 in April last year and with the upcoming launch of the Mi 6, only the Pro-series smartphones can take on the Xiaomi flagship. Coincidentally, the Meizu Pro 6S which is the latest in the lineup has got a 200 Yuan price cut. This could be a way to offload the remaining stock before the launch of a new flagship.

An earlier leak had tipped the Meizu Pro 7 to come with a 5.7-inch 4K display (resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels) with support for AOD display screen technology. The flagship is also said to feature an Helio X30 chipset and would also come packing a rear camera with 12MP Sony IMX362 CMOS sensor among several other features. We are not entirely sure, though, that we’ll finally get to see the long-awaited Pro 7 this month. It could turn out to be another model.

The conflict had meant Qualcomm chips were consistently missing on Meizu smartphones for a long while now and fans of the brand yearn for a time when they would have a Qualcomm-powered Meizu smartphone.

Since the settlement with Qualcomm, there have been no official words from Meizu as to when a Snapdragon-powered Meizu phone would debut but a leaked Meizu 2017 product schedule had earlier revealed a Snapdragon 626-powered Meizu smartphone coming in December. A recent rumor had also disclosed that the Qualcomm-fired Meizu smartphone would meet with us in Q3 2017.

Meizu VP, Li Nan sort of confirmed that a Qualcomm-powered Meizu phone would launch towards the end of this year in response to a question on Weibo. The Meizu VP today hosted a Question & Answer session where he responded to questions by a fan as to when a Meizu phone with a high-end chip would launch. The VP disclosed that it takes an average of 8 months for Research and Development (R&D) for a new smartphone to get concluded and then production, certification, and other factors could see the time stretch from 8 to 12 months before the phone is launched. So, a Qualcomm-powered Meizu phone may hit the market at the end of this year. This puts paid to speculation of the expected Meizu Pro 7 sporting a Qualcomm chip but at least there is a ray of hope that we’ll finally have a Meizu phone, probably a high-end model, rocking a Qualcomm chip this year.

For the most part of 2016, Meizu was embroiled in a legal tussle with chip maker, Qualcomm. The latter had sued Meizu over patent infringements and failure to pay royalties. While the battle raged on, none of the phones released by Meizu was powered by a Qualcomm chip. The case has been settled now and a new agreement signed. But the big question is when will we get a new Meizu phone with a Snapdragon processor?

Recently, a leaked image showing Meizu’s product lineup for the year surfaced online. In that image we saw Meizu has plans to release a Snapdragon 626 device in December. That’s still a long time from now.

New report says we might be getting a Snapdragon phone earlier than that. The info comes from a source in the supply chain who says Meizu plans to start using chips from Qualcomm in Q3 2017. The Chinese manufacturer is aiming for 30% of its shipment for the year to be powered by Qualcomm.

The move is said to be as a result of its rivals, OPPO and Vivo reducing the number of Mediatek chips in their device since Q4 2016. Only 50% of OPPO’s 99.3 million shipments in 2016 were powered by Mediatek and only 20% of Vivo’s 77 million shipments contained Mediatek chips. Though these figures contributed about 30% to Mediatek’s revenue growth for last year, the chip manufacturer saw its gross margin drop by 35.6%. The drop is attributed to a keen price competition from Qualcomm in the low and mid-range category.

Meizu CEO, Li Nan had earlier revealed that one of its phones will sport dual-cameras and a dual-curved display and may have a Qualcomm chip. This phone will most likely be a flagship and the chip might be one of the Snapdragon 800 series. Asides that, there is still the one with a snapdragon 600 series chip.

Meizu hopes to cover the mid-range and high-end category with these two new phones. One thing to note is that they may be more expensive. Meizu has previously lamented about the cost of Snapdragon chips. Add that to the increase in cost of materials and the final price of the phone is expected to go up.

Meizu today held a 2017 New Year media event in Beijing, where the company shared the statistics relating to the company’s performance last year. The most shocking of the data revealed is perhaps the news that the company achieved a total of 22 million units in smartphone sales last year.

Of this figure, overseas sales accounted for about 2 million units and these include sales in Eastern Europe where the Meizu brand seems to be popular. The company also disclosed that smartphone sales exceeded 4 million yuan a day. Last year’s double 11 sales record also was awesome, with Meizu phone sales exceeding 1.1 million units.

The company has however decided to reduce the number of news conferences it would hold this year. Instead, smartphones may sometimes be launched using live streaming events, apparently to cut cost. We’re sure no one saw this coming but if the company can achieve such feat, then their avalanche of smartphone releases each year wasn’t wasteful.

A while ago, someone leaked a photo online of what appeared to be the new logo for the upcoming Meizu Blue Charm Note. As the photo shows, the new logo is basically just a single “M” but the lines are a bit clearer unlike the logo used for most of the Meizu MX series.

In addition, a photo of the invitation to the Blue Charm Note’s launch was released online. From the “Think Young” slogan that was used, it is clear that they are targeting younger users.

Earlier reports have said that this phone will come in two versions with different screen sizes. One will sport a 4.6-inch display screen, while the other will sport a 5.5-inch display screen. They will be available in more than five colors, including blue, orange and white.

The Meizu Blue Charm Note with a big display screen will have a contrast ratio of 16:9, while the one with a smaller screen will have a 15:9 contrast ratio. It was originally reported that it would only support a single SIM card but now, it was revealed that while Meizu will release two versions as reported, both support dual SIM cards. The Blue Charm Note will only have one SIM slot. Users can just insert both SIM cards there.

As for its other specifications, the Meizu Blue Charm Note will use the MT6572 CPU chip. It will have 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM. Its Home button will be the same small white button found in Meizu’s other phones. Its chassis will be less than 3mm wide. Although Meizu vice-CEO, Li Nan, said that their devices cannot cost 799 RMB and the price has been expected to be around 1000 RMB (161.88 USD), it has now been reported that the Meizu Blue Charm Note will cost at least 799 RMB.

Meizu has finally announced the official date for the launch of Meizu MX4 pro, and it turns out that we will not be seeing it this month. This morning, analyst, Sun Changxu, announced that Meizu has changed the launch date for the MX4 Pro for unknown reasons. Now, Meizu’s senior VP, Li Nan, confirmed in his Weibo account that the Meizu MX4 Pro will see its launch this November. He also said that its CPU and fingerprint sensor will not be as bad as the phones out right now and that he will explain at the launch.

Previous reports have said that the MX4 Pro has a 5.4-inch 2560 x 1536 resolution screen, Samsung’s Exynos 5430, support for Hi-Fi, and a fingerprint sensor. They also said that it would cost 2499 RMB (407.32 USD). However, these were later denied by Li Nan who said that “the specs are too powerful, the price is too cheap, and the release date is too early.” Sun Changxu later revealed more accurate information regarding its specs such as that it will use a fingerprint sensor from Huiding Inc.

“I did not do this. I did not break my MX phone. But the MX4 that you gave to me is broken. The phone has no power button. Even though something must have gone wrong when it was manufactured, you still released it. I am not mad, just very disappointed.”

From the photo, you can see that the this MX4 has no power button and the sticker at the back has not yet been taken off.

In response, Meizu vice-CEO, Li Nan, said, “I am sorry. We will contact you to return it. Our public relations manager has already sent you a letter. We will also examine any problems at the production line.”
