While the upcoming product has not been revealed yet, the company says that it will help set a new standard.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s noteworthy that the teaser for the launch event comes from DJI&#8217;s &#8220;Pro&#8221; solutions arm which typically works on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/development">development</a> of innovative products for the filmmakers.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-464639 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/DJI-15-June-Launch-Event-Teaser.jpeg?x44794" alt="DJI Launch Event Teaser" width="1080" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/DJI-15-June-Launch-Event-Teaser.jpeg 1080w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/DJI-15-June-Launch-Event-Teaser-300x300.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/DJI-15-June-Launch-Event-Teaser-1024x1024.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/DJI-15-June-Launch-Event-Teaser-150x150.jpeg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/DJI-15-June-Launch-Event-Teaser-768x768.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/DJI-15-June-Launch-Event-Teaser-696x696.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/DJI-15-June-Launch-Event-Teaser-1068x1068.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/DJI-15-June-Launch-Event-Teaser-420x420.jpeg 420w" sizes="(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px" /></p>
<p>Although the upcoming product from the company remains unknown, leaks have hinted that the company could announce the third-generation DJI Ronin-S camera stabilizer as well as the RS 3 <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/gimbal">gimbal</a>.</p>
<p>If the reports are to be believed, then the upcoming camera product from the company will be integrated with a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/lidar">LiDAR range sensor</a> to automatically and instantly maintain perfect focus in even the most dynamic of situations.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s also a hint of antennas in the teaser poster and leaks indicate something related to the video transmitter along with the DJI RS 3 and RS 3 Pro gimbals. To know for sure what&#8217;s up the company&#8217;s sleeves, we will have to wait for the official launch event.</p>

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true">
<p lang="en" dir="ltr">LiDAR will only be coming to the pro iPhone models. Earlier this year it seemed Apple wanted to release all iPhone 13/12S models with LiDAR but due to one reason or another, it won’t be happening this year.</p>
<p>&mdash; Dylan (@dylandkt) <a href="https://twitter.com/dylandkt/status/1414338686314074116?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 11, 2021</a></p></blockquote>
<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>According to a tweet from @<a href="https://twitter.com/dylandkt/status/1414338686314074116" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">dylandkt</a>, the high end models within the series, which is the iPhone 13 Pro lineup, will exclusively feature the new LiDAR sensor on the back. The tipster further added that the Cupertino based giant had initially aimed at including the sensor across the entire 2021 iPhone lineup, which was also previously rumored. However, the brand had to skip this feature for the lower end models due to certain unknown reasons.</p>
<p>In other words, the iPhone 13 Mini and base iPhone 13 could&#8217;ve also featured LiDAR technology as well. But now, only the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max would have the additional sensor on the rear. Notably, the tipster has been correct with certain predictions regarding upcoming Apple products in the past. For those unaware, LiDAR scanner was first introduced by the iPhone maker back in 2020 with the iPad Pro and then arrived in the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-12-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">iPhone 12 Pro</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-12-pro-max/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">iPhone 12 Pro Max</a>.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-389123 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/iPhone-13-Camera-Backs.jpg?x44794" alt="Apple" width="1600" height="901" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/iPhone-13-Camera-Backs.jpg 1600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/iPhone-13-Camera-Backs-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/iPhone-13-Camera-Backs-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/iPhone-13-Camera-Backs-1024x577.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/iPhone-13-Camera-Backs-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/iPhone-13-Camera-Backs-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/iPhone-13-Camera-Backs-746x420.jpg 746w" sizes="(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px" /></p>
<p>This technology uses Time of Flight systems to measure the distance between the sensor and the object so that the camera can measure the distance precisely. The company has also applied this technology to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/05/apples-mixed-reality-headset-to-feature-8k-displays-lidar-sensors-and-more/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">enhance its AR experience primarily</a> and also uses it in its Night Mode to improve image results as well. So stay tuned for more updates.</p>

Later, the company continued it till the Galaxy S20 series but ditched it on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/10/samsung-august-13-galaxy-note-20-launch-date-china/">Galaxy Note 20</a> and the 2021&#8217;s <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-s21">Galaxy S21</a> series. Now, a report by ETNews says that the company will do the same for the upcoming Galaxy S-series (Tentatively: Galaxy S22).</p>
<figure id="attachment_369438" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-369438" style="width: 2048px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-369438 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/s21-vs-mi-11-03.jpg?x44794" alt="samsung galaxy s21 featured" width="2048" height="1152" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/s21-vs-mi-11-03.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/s21-vs-mi-11-03-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/s21-vs-mi-11-03-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/s21-vs-mi-11-03-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/s21-vs-mi-11-03-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/s21-vs-mi-11-03-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/s21-vs-mi-11-03-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/s21-vs-mi-11-03-1920x1080.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-369438" class="wp-caption-text">Representative image: Galaxy S21</figcaption></figure>
<p>Apple&#8217;s LiDAR sensors work similar to the Time of Flight sensors on Samsung and help in depth information like distance measurement. Its prowess is showcased more in areas of AR, VR apps, and games.</p>
<p>However, the difference between <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> and <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple">Apple</a> in the past was that the former used an indirect ToF sensor which works well only when the light is strong enough. The Depth Vision ToF sensors on the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-s20">Galaxy S20</a> series had a range of 3 meters while Apple made sure they cover as long as 6 meters.</p>
<p>This led to a lot of inaccuracy and eventually, Samsung removed it last year. This year, it continued the momentum and as quoted in the <a href="https://m.etnews.com/amp/20210416000132">report</a>(via <em><a href="https://www.sammobile.com/news/galaxy-s22-camera-miss-3d-tof-sensor/">Sammobile</a>),</em>  a Samsung executive says that users are happy with the camera features on the Galaxy S21 and hence, there&#8217;s no need for a ToF lens on the successor(probably Galaxy S22).</p>
<p>Either way, it&#8217;s too early to talk about the Galaxy S22 series right now considering we are just three months <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/14/samsung-galaxy-s21-and-galaxy-s21-announced-with-new-designs-new-chipsets-and-more/">past the Galaxy S21 launch</a>. However, we can expect the company to reveal them around the Q1 of 2022.</p>

<p>A post by DJI Automotive&#8217;s official WeChat account has revealed that the company will be releasing car-related products at the Shanghai Auto Show which will commence on April 19 and end on April 28. The announcement did not specify the product that we should expect from the renowned commercial drone-maker but can be taken as an official announcement of the brand&#8217;s entrance into the automobile industry.</p>
<p>Of course, DJI won&#8217;t likely build a complete car anytime soon but the company had earlier hinted of plans to focus on smart driving systems as well as software and hardware solutions to help automakers quickly build affordable smart cars.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/dji.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-383679" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/dji.png?x44794" alt="DJI Automotive" width="487" height="643" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/dji.png 487w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/dji-227x300.png 227w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/dji-318x420.png 318w" sizes="(max-width: 487px) 100vw, 487px" /></a></p>
<p>DJI Automotive is said to be a brand of DJI&#8217;s intelligent driving business, which is committed to using space intelligent technology to empower travel, focusing on the R&amp;D, production, and sales of intelligent driving systems and their core components. Earlier this year,<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/14/dji-build-new-team-will-work-self-driving-technology/"> job listings by the Chinese tech giant</a> revealed it was hiring engineers with experience in related fields such as auto electronics, autonomous driving, in-car software, and the automobile industry.</p>
<p>Some persons familiar with the matter also disclosed that that drone maker was planning to sell driver-assist technology which includes <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/lidar/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">LiDAR</a> sensors, a crucial component of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/28/baidu-autonomous-car-testing-california/">self-driving vehicles</a>. At present, DJI has nearly 70% of the global commercial drone market, and the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/lidar/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">LiDAR</a> technology used on drones also plays a key role in autonomous driving.</p>
<p>DJI has reportedly also got other solutions for autonomous driving functions. We&#8217;ll have to wait for the event to see what the company has in store.</p>

<p>According to a <a href="https://www.patentlyapple.com/patently-apple/2021/02/apple-wins-a-project-titan-patent-relating-to-a-visibility-system-that-assists-drivers-see-important-road-signs-in-poor-weath.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>PatentlyApple</em> </a>report, the Cupertino based giant was recently granted the patent by the US Patent and Trademark Office, which is related to its Project Titan. The document in question is regarding a new visibility system that is designed to assist drivers in viewing key road signs. This would be especially useful in bad weather conditions like heavy snow, thick fogs or smogs, and even dust. In driving, visibility is a very crucial aspect, which heavily ties into safety as well.</p>
<p>Thus, in low visibility conditions, a system that helps drivers in seeing other vehicles on the road or other hazards could reduce the risk of accidents or any other incidents. As per the patent, the vehicle with this system would be able to lower the risk of collision by utilizing an additional system that features radar systems, vision based cameras, and even light detection and ranging through LiDAR technology. Since poor weather conditions could also affect the reliability of the visibility system, like water vapor that can absorb or scatter light, improving detectability is paramount to such systems.</p>

<p>The patent granted to Apple covers a retroreflector system that includes a &#8220;plurality of retroreflectors.&#8221; In other words, the retroreflectors are configured to reflect a radar signal, a light, a LiDAR signal, or any other type of signal to a respective signal source. This might even have the sensor being partially embedded in an outer panel of the vehicle, which can be configured to allow the radar signal to pass through to the plurality of retroreflectors. While the system is described in detail, it is still unknown if Apple is actually working on such a product. So stay tuned.</p>

In the <a href="https://money.udn.com/money/story/11074/4875173">latest development</a>, Win Semiconductor has now started mass-production and shipment of ToF sensors and LiDAR scanners to Apple.</p>

<p>For those who are unaware, Apple <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/iphone-12">iPhone 12</a> models are reportedly coming with LiDAR scanner, which stands for “light detection and ranging” and measures distances by illuminating the target with laser light and by measuring the reflection with a sensor.</p>
<p>This won&#8217;t be the first time Apple opts for the LiDAR sensor on its devices. The company has already started using the LiDAR technology on this year’s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ipad-pro">iPad Pro</a> with the ToF sensor. As per the reports, not all models will come with this tech but the Pro model will have it.</p>
<p>If the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/iphone">iPhone</a> sales are better than expected, then the company could get more orders from Apple for the fourth quarter of the year. It currently has a monthly production capacity of 41,000 pieces. The company is expected to invest and accelerate production in Nanke Park, which is estimated to create approximately 4,000 job opportunities.</p>

<p>According to a <a href="https://9to5mac.com/2020/09/11/alleged-hands-on-video-shows-6-1-inch-iphone-12-pro-rear-shell-with-lidar-placement/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>9to5Mac</em> </a>report, a YouTuber named <em>EverythingApplePro</em> showcased an alleged rear panel of the iPhone 12 Pro. In the video, it can be observed that the upcoming flagship features a finish similar to the<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-11-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> iPhone 11 Pro</a>, with steel edges and matte glass. This is in line with all the recent rumors. On the rear, triple camera setup can be observed, with an arrangement similar to the camera module of the previous generation.</p>

<p>Notably, this camera module houses the ultra wide angle lens, which is also likely related to the LiDAR scanner. For those unaware, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/01/apple-iphone-12-lidar-scanner/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">iPhone 12 will reportedly feature a LiDAR scanner</a>. However, it was said to only arrive in the 6.7 inch model. But now, the hands on video reveals that both the 6.1 inch and 6.7 inch iPhone 12 Pro models would ship with the new sensor.</p>

<p>Additional changes that have been observed in the video include a readjusted SIM tray and a new cutout on the right side of the device, which is likely for the 5G antenna. <em>9to5Mac </em>also stated that a previous report had claimed that two models of the new iPhone will feature the LiDAR scanner, which is probably the iPhone 12 Pro and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/iphone-12-pro-max/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">iPhone 12 Pro Max</a>. <p>Apple started using the LiDAR technology on this year&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ipad-pro">iPad Pro</a> with the ToF sensor and now a report from DigiTimes claims that the same will be included in some of the upcoming iPhone 12 models as well.</p>

<p>LiDAR can measure distances by illuminating the target with laser light and by measuring the reflection with a sensor. The data can then be used to make accurate 3D representations of an object or environment, significantly improving <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ar">AR</a> experiences.</p>
<p>Although the <a href="https://www.digitimes.com/news/a20200831PD210.html">DigiTimes report</a> does not claim that the iPhone 12 will come with the LiDAR scanner, there have been a few reports claiming that the upcoming iPhone 12 Pro smartphone could feature it.</p>
<p>The Pro models of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/iphone-12">upcoming iPhone</a> are expected to have this scanner while the less expensive models with 5.4-inch as well as the 6.1-inch display will not have support for the LiDAR scanner as it is being regarded as a premium feature.</p>
